On New Year's Day this year, we enjoyed a special breakfast of traditional Japanese New Year's dishes, but since we couldn't prepare a wide variety of osechi dishes at home, we decided to visit the lunch buffet at "Hyakusai Kenbi Akebino Mi" at Ochanomizu Hotel Juraku. The hotel entrance was decorated with a splendid kadomatsu, creating a festive atmosphere. "Hyakusai Kenbi Akebino Mi" is a restaurant located within the hotel, offering buffet-style meals from morning till night. As the name suggests, the buffet mainly consists of dishes made from carefully selected ingredients such as meat, fish, and vegetables, catering to both those who prefer vegetable-based dishes and those who prefer meat and fish. We had heard that they were serving osechi dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on New Year's Day, so we made a reservation for the lunch buffet.
In terms of COVID-19 prevention measures, the restaurant had taken strict precautions, which made us feel comfortable dining there. The restaurant operated on a reservation-only basis, with lunchtime divided into two sessions during the New Year period. The number of reservations seemed limited, and the central floor of the restaurant was mostly empty to ensure social distancing. Each table was equipped with acrylic dividers for droplet prevention, and near the buffet area, guests were required to wear masks and vinyl gloves. The dishes on the buffet table were individually portioned in small plates, and there were acrylic shields placed over the dishes, which further reassured us of the safety measures in place.
The review then goes on to describe the various dishes served at the buffet, including traditional osechi dishes, warm dishes, salads, bread, rice, soups, and a drink bar. The warm dishes were kept hot to maintain their temperature, and there was a wide variety of dishes for guests to enjoy. Additionally, the salad bar offered a selection of fresh vegetables and pickles, catering to different tastes. The bread corner had three types of bread, with a toaster available for guests to toast their bread. The review also mentions the soup options, including a sweet potato potage and a white bean soup with mochi. The drink bar had a range of cold and hot beverages, providing a refreshing selection for guests.
Overall, the review highlights the delicious and diverse offerings at the buffet, as well as the thorough COVID-19 prevention measures taken by the restaurant to ensure a safe dining experience for guests.
