We visited a long-established tempura restaurant in Asakusa to celebrate a special occasion. We made a reservation and it seemed like we were the only ones booked at that time on a weekday. As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted with a smile and led to a private room facing a pond where koi fish were swimming. The interior had a quaint feel, reminiscent of an old inn in a hot spring town. Since it was a cold day, we were served hot sake. The appetizers were delicious and paired well with the sake. The clam sinew dish was unique and tasty. The tempura main dish had a soft and fluffy texture, with a slightly thick batter. It made me feel happy to think that this tempura has been a tradition at the restaurant for a long time. For the final course, we could choose between tempura rice bowl, salted tempura rice bowl, or tempura tea. I wished I had chosen the tempura tea, but the salted tempura rice bowl was also delicious. Some reviews mentioned that the tempura lacked variety with only small shrimp, but I felt satisfied with it considering the overall tempura experience. The staff were lovely throughout the meal. Thank you.

Asakusa Public Hall is a place where a silent space suddenly appears in front of it, right off the Denpo-in Street. It gives the impression of being on Orange Street, just a little way down the cobblestone path. I ordered the tempura set meal. It came with two shrimp tempura, a kiss fish tempura, vegetable tempura, and small shrimp tempura in a wooden box with the restaurant's name on it. You can have seconds of rice and tempura broth. The behavior and language of the staff are appropriate for the restaurant's elegant atmosphere. I would like to make a reservation and enjoy the meal in a private room overlooking the courtyard.

This year's Hachi-arai festival was held here. It had been 4 years since the last Hachi-arai festival. Geisha from Mukojima also came and we had a great time. The tempura was delicious, and so were the other dishes.

"Chukisei" in Asakusa has a magnificent entrance and is a longstanding restaurant known for its tempura and tempura rice bowls. When I took my relatives from Kyushu there to try the tempura rice bowl, we unfortunately couldn't get in due to a wedding reception. The memory of this famous tempura rice bowl in Asakusa stayed with me. The restaurant is like a perfect traditional Japanese inn. The waitresses, dressed impeccably in kimono, guide you with great care. However, you can also enjoy tempura set meals or tempura rice bowls at regular tables. I had the "Tempura Rice Bowl for 2,750 yen." This is the taste of Edo, with plenty of rich sauce soaked into the rice, the famous tempura rice bowl of Asakusa. The tempura absorbs the sauce, so there isn't much sauce on the rice. But it's already flavorful enough. Very rich!! Two shrimp tempura, one smelt tempura, and a large shrimp tempura are served. The bowl is already full with these. It's quite a generous portion. I was already full by the end of the meal. Before leaving, the proprietress showed us the backyard. The Japanese garden, shining with fresh greenery, is beautiful. Large carp swim gracefully in the pond. When we paid, instead of saying "thank you," she said "thank you very much," a very polite farewell. It reminded me of Kanda Yabu Soba. I was able to enjoy the old and good culture of Edo to the fullest!

Despite being in lively Asakusa, this place feels like a different world with its quietness. You can enjoy a leisurely meal in a calm and elegant private room. The seasonal appetizers, delicious tempura rice bowl, and desserts were all tasty, and the service was very polite.

On the way back from Nikko, we decided to have lunch in Asakusa and we were set on having tempura rice bowl. After searching for a good restaurant in Asakusa, we decided to try "Chukyo" which seemed promising. It turned out to be a great choice! From the moment we entered, we received excellent service. We were seated in a spacious area with a view of the garden and pond. We ordered a draft beer for 880 yen and the deluxe tempura rice bowl for 3,300 yen. The tempura was delicious with plump shrimp, eel, smelt, and tempura, all coated in a flavorful yet light sauce. The oil used was also of high quality, as we didn't feel heavy even hours after eating. We even found ourselves reminiscing about the tempura rice bowl later at home. While they offer courses in tatami or private rooms for reservations, their alcohol menu is not extensive, with no champagne or wine available. Therefore, we might revisit for lunch rather than dinner. Overall, a fantastic restaurant if you're not particular about alcohol selection!

About a 6-minute walk from Exit A of Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express Line, there is a restaurant called "Tempura Nakakiyo" along Orange Street. I visited for the first time during lunchtime in late February. This is a long-established tempura restaurant in Asakusa, with a dignified traditional Edo-style building. Inside the restaurant, the waitresses in kimono provide very polite service, and occasionally visiting such elegant establishments can make you feel more refined. The restaurant has a total of 60 seats, including private rooms, raised tatami seating, and regular tables. I was seated at a window-side table for 6 people with a view of the inner garden. I looked at the lunch menu on the table. Initially, I ordered the "Raijin Age-don," but they were out of scallops that day, so I ordered the "Joten-don" (3300 yen) with miso soup and pickles. First, tea and pickles were served promptly, and after a short wait, the tempura bowl was served. The "Joten-don" consisted of two prawns, smelt fish, conger eel, and shrimp tempura. As soon as I opened the lid of the bowl, the fragrant aroma of tempura filled the air. The volume of tempura toppings in the bowl was impressive. I immediately tried it. Each piece of tempura was delicious, with a crispy texture. The black sauce typical of downtown tempura bowls was not too heavy, with a sweet and savory flavor that I liked. I enjoyed the meal and finished it in no time, savoring the plentiful Edo-style tempura in Asakusa. Thank you for the meal.

Established in the Meiji era, this long-standing tempura restaurant exudes a traditional charm with its spacious and upscale atmosphere. Visiting on a weekday around 1 pm, I was seated promptly at a table near the entrance. I tried the Thunder God Tempura Bowl priced at 3,300 yen, which consisted of small fish and shrimp tempura served over rice. The tempura was fried in sesame oil in the Kanto style and soaked in a dark sauce, offering a slightly firm texture. The sauce was spicy and rich, complemented by a delicious miso soup with a refined bonito broth. The service was pleasant, and the meal was both enjoyable and reasonably priced.

I always stop by when I have errands in Asakusa! It's a long-established tempura restaurant in Asakusa. The tempura was crispy and delicious. I felt good because my stomach didn't feel heavy even after finishing the meal. There is a calm courtyard with swimming carp, and the interior is like the Taisho era, which is lovely! I want to visit again.

I was in Asakusa. I visited the long-established Tokiya, founded in the 62nd year of the Meiji era, known for its traditional Edo-style tempura. The building exudes a sense of history, and once you step inside, you forget about the hustle and bustle outside. I ordered their popular dish, the Raijin Age Set Meal. Before long, the meal arrived. The warm miso soup with tofu and seaweed was delicious. The large tempura was impressive, with a generous thickness and volume. The tempura was cooked perfectly inside out, showcasing the skills of this long-standing establishment. The name Raijin comes from the resemblance of the tempura to the Raijin's thunder drum. The crispy batter, tender shrimp, and the flavor of green willow leaves combined perfectly. With the refreshing tempura dipping sauce, I couldn't stop eating!

Tempura is delicious, isn't it? In higher-priced restaurants, they use different types of oil. Of course, it's not just about the oil, but also about selecting quality ingredients and frying them at the right temperature and time. It's easy to say, but difficult to execute. This is where the skill of the chef shines. So today, I'm going to a popular restaurant with high ratings on Tabelog to have tempura. The restaurant is located near Asakusa Station, close to Asakusa Temple Kindergarten. As I walk on the cobblestone path, I arrive at the restaurant. The exterior of the restaurant is very elegant, giving off a traditional Japanese vibe. As Asakusa is a popular spot for foreign tourists, I believe this restaurant will be well-received by them as well. I ordered a tempura bowl. The tempura is piled high on top of the rice bowl, with two shrimp, kisu fish, and small shrimp tempura. The tempura sauce has a rich flavor that complements the crispy coating of the tempura. This tempura doesn't have any overpowering sesame oil taste. It was a delicious meal. Thank you.

Established in 1870, this long-standing tempura restaurant has a charming atmosphere. For lunch, I had the tendon (tempura rice bowl) for 3,300 yen. It was luxurious with two prawns, anago (conger eel), kisu (Japanese whiting), and mixed vegetable tempura. The sauce was also delicious. Money spent: 3,300 yen. Rating: 4.5 stars. Would definitely like to visit again!

I regularly visit this shop. Established in the Meiji era, this shop gives off a Kyoto atmosphere from the entrance. Inside the shop, there is a lively atmosphere and pleasant kimono-clad women provide service in private rooms. In the courtyard, there are several large carp swimming. The maintenance is impeccable and the attention to detail is impressive. Today, I ordered the 3,000 yen tempura set meal. It may seem like a luxurious set meal, but knowing the atmosphere and the skill of the delicious tempura, it is a natural choice from my perspective. I always forget to take photos of the food, but the tempura I enjoy every time is delicious. I definitely want to continue visiting this place regularly. Thank you for the meal as always.

Every time I go to Asakusa, I always admire the atmosphere of this place. Finally, I visited for the first time! As a fan of architecture, I really wanted to visit this shop. I started my day at a nail salon, so this was my first meal of the day, even though it was already evening. I appreciate that they are open all day. I walked through the stone-paved entrance into the restaurant. They offer private rooms for an additional fee, but since it wasn't a special occasion, I opted for a regular table. I was quite hungry, so I decided to try their famous "Raijin-age set meal." When I opened the lid of the splendid lacquerware box, I was surprised to see a huge tempura. Inside the tempura, there were plenty of shrimp and green lipped mussels. It was fluffy and delicious, but the size was so big that I struggled to finish it. My partner ordered the Joten-don, and we ended up helping each other finish our meals. From our table by the window, we could see the private rooms and the inner garden. There were koi swimming in the pond, creating a lovely atmosphere. The service was excellent, and it made me appreciate the beauty of the Japanese language. It's reassuring to enjoy a meal at a long-established restaurant like this. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Towards the end of the Showa era, I used to often go to Asakusa Public Hall and think to myself, "I want to eat delicious tempura rice bowl." However, once I was finally able to go after the start of the Heisei era, I didn't go as often (laughs). This time, after a long time, I visited again. At a different restaurant, the menu was sold out, so I decided to go all out and have a tempura rice bowl. My friend ordered a large kakiage set called "Raijin-something." It was surprisingly huge. There are many shops in Asakusa that boast large tempura dishes, and I wonder if this shop is one of them? The shrimp in my tempura rice bowl was plump and the sweet sauce was just right, not too much or too little. I felt like the taste was more refined this time, but I also felt like my taste buds were getting used to the flavor of this shop.

I don't often feel like eating tempura, but when I do, there is always one place that comes to mind - a tempura restaurant. On this day, I went with a middle-aged couple who were friends visiting from America. Since it was their first time in Japan, we couldn't miss out on Asakusa, and it was decided that we would have lunch here. We didn't make a reservation since we didn't have any other plans. We couldn't get a table right away, but we were able to wait leisurely on the veranda of the historic building, overlooking the beautiful backyard. This was a nice experience for tourists. Now, onto the meal. I recommended tempura to them. While tempura can be found in America, I don't think they have anything quite like this. The tempura here was large, crispy, and fluffy, with a perfect combination of ingredients like shrimp and scallops. Each bite allowed us to savor the individual flavors. As I was enjoying the meal, I realized that this was something I had been craving for a long time. Of course, the couple also thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

A tempura restaurant in Asakusa. A long-established store founded in 1870. I visited for lunch on a holiday. The entrance to the restaurant is a stone-paved approach. The building has a traditional Japanese style. The staff wears kimonos and looks well-groomed. The service is timely and well-trained. The first floor has chair seating, while the second floor has tatami seating. Reservations are only accepted for the tatami seating course. Taller individuals, especially those not used to traditional Japanese houses, need to be careful of the low beams in the tatami area. [Sai Course] (8,640 yen) - Appetizers served on a plate: Fried fig, fried shrimp heads, squid sashimi with salmon roe - Sashimi: Sea bream - Vinegared dish: Shrimp, grated daikon radish, daikon, cucumber, seaweed - Soup: Conger eel and shiitake mushrooms with yuzu - Tempura assortment: Prawn, sandfish, conger eel, flathead fish - Rice - Miso soup with tofu and mitsuba - Pickles: Nara pickles, pickled radish, pickled greens - Dessert: Mango, Pione grapes [Drink] - Beer (medium bottle) Asahi beer, famous for its golden object in Asakusa. Overall, it was a course that allows you to experience Japanese cuisine in an approachable way, perfect for introducing foreign tourists to Japanese food.

There are two main types of residents in Asakusa: those who attended Sensoji Temple Kindergarten and those who did not. For residents of Asakusa, this distinction is significant. Children from Sensoji Temple Kindergarten are very familiar with Denpo-in, a hidden famous shop representing Asakusa. If you know about this place, you may get a glimpse of the depth of Asakusa.

I had a meal in a calm private room that was neither too spacious nor too cramped. I am grateful for the meticulous work of the professional staff and the pleasant service of the staff in traditional Japanese attire. The tempura was delicious, with small but tasty shrimp and tender conger eel seasoned with salt and grated radish. The thunder bowl with dancing shrimp was also delicious in a small portion. The surprise came at the end with the mango and cherries! Starting with the cherries, the sweetness was surprising! Then, the mango was even juicier and sweeter! It was the first time I was so impressed by a dessert at the end of a meal. Thank you for the wonderful meal. I will definitely visit again for a private dining experience.
