I visited for lunch on a Saturday after a long time. I chose the Mixed Fry set meal from the 7 lunch menu options. It included skewered pork cutlets (about 80% onion), two small pork cutlets, and half a minced meat cutlet. It may not be enough for those who want to eat a lot, but it was just the right amount for me.

I had visited this restaurant for lunch 2-3 times before, but this time I went for dinner for the first time. I ordered the largest size (150g?, 2400 yen) of the pork cutlet set meal that is listed at the top of the menu. The meat was moderately tender, but not juicy, it was somehow watery. However, the rice was shiny and fluffy, and the miso soup with clams was delicious, so I think I would be satisfied with a slightly cheaper menu.

Atmosphere: Counter seats, 2 tables, basement floor, clean interior in a nice cream color
Quality: Very good, lunch offers great value for 1,150 yen per set
Price: All lunch sets are priced at 1,150 yen
Note: No lines around 11:45 am on Saturdays, but it gets full around 12:10 pm.

I messed up. I saw on Tabelog that there was no parking, so I parked at a 15-minute, 200 yen parking lot a little further away. But there was actually a parking lot in the building, which cost 300 yen for 30 minutes. The service was pretty quick, so I think 30 minutes should be enough. It just depends on how fast you eat. Overall, I didn't have any major complaints, but I wouldn't go back because I had to pay for parking. The rice was a bit mushy, but the freshly cooked part was good. The taste was nice. The meat was thin. It tasted more like a specialized tonkatsu restaurant than homemade. The miso soup had a lot of broth, but not enough ingredients, so it got boring halfway through. And the parking fee was 400 yen.

A cozy tonkatsu restaurant in front of Daikanyama Station. The food is quite delicious. I went for lunch and found it to be reasonably priced. The photo is of the pork miso soup set for 1,080 yen. I casually asked for a refill of cabbage and they had no problem with it. It's located under a building near the station.

One of Gen Tanaka's popular summer lunch menu items is the Cold Shabu Salad Set! It comes with a generous amount of vegetables and delicious meat for cold shabu. You can enjoy it with sesame dressing. Sometimes I end up eating too much of the Cold Shabu Salad and have leftover rice. In that case, I recommend ordering the off-menu small plate curry! It's a spicy and flavorful curry that goes well with the leftover rice!

Today, I was planning on not eating dinner because I'm on a diet, but I was invited by an acquaintance to Gen Tan and ended up coming. Oh no, they serve fried food!! I really wished they would have spared me today. So, I ended up ordering just the "Chilled Shabu Salad" and miso soup. The "Chilled Shabu Salad" had lots of vegetables and was enough to fill me up. I had to put off enjoying Gen Tan's delicious rice today.

I visited in the evening. It was delicious! The tonkatsu was great, and the pickles, mustard, rice, and miso soup were also very tasty. I ended up using a lot of mustard. They asked about the amount of rice at the beginning. The atmosphere and the staff, including the master, were really nice, so I would like to visit again.

The number of seats is small, but it is a well-known hidden gem. The curry cutlet in large portion was amazing! The owner also had a great sense of humor, which was nice!

While in Ebisu, we decided to stop by a friend's place for dinner. We visited Gen Tanaka in Daikanyama Plaza, located underground near Daikanyama Station. The restaurant is small with counter and table seating. We started with beer, tripe stew, smoked herring, fried eggplant, and then enjoyed the pork cutlet set for around 2000 yen. The men had the pork cutlet while the wife had the shrimp fry set. The pork cutlet was large, thick, crispy, and not greasy, making it easy to eat. In the past, Daikanyama was known for its regular eateries, but now it's filled with trendy places, making Gen Tanaka a rare find for a quick and delicious meal. We had a great meal, thank you.

I had katsu curry and katsudon. The katsu was crispy, the rice was freshly cooked, and the pork soup broth was sweet and delicious. The curry was a bit salty for my taste.

If you're dining alone, consider stepping away from the upscale lunch options in Daikanyama and opt for something a bit more affordable. For 1,100 yen, you can enjoy a flavorful katsudon with a rich sauce. The delicious pork cutlet is definitely worth trying.

I go to this place near Daikanyama Station when I want tonkatsu. It's reasonably priced at around 1,100 to 1,300 yen for Daikanyama standards. However, the tonkatsu itself has less meat and more breading. When I see the prices, I can't really complain, but I do think, "Oh well." When I order the tonjiru set, it comes with a bowl of tonjiru with a little bit of tonkatsu on the side, making it a light and satisfying meal.

I found a hidden tonkatsu restaurant in Daikanyama♪ Among the trendy and stylish shops in Daikanyama, I discovered this quiet place underground♡♡♡ The lunch here is in the 1000 yen range, which I think is quite affordable for Daikanyama. The chef fries the tonkatsu right in front of you, and the waitress brings it to your table... They were so kind. It's my policy to always order the most expensive item at a new restaurant, so I went for the most expensive lunch!! The pork cutlet was thick yet tender and juicy... Fried food is always the best when it's freshly fried♡ I'm satisfied... Let's do our best at work in the afternoon!! The waitress even gave me a small dessert as a bonus... I love these kinds of gestures (;A;) I also have my eye on the fried chicken set meal... Definitely want to try it next time♪ It seems they are closed on Sundays...

I resumed dining out this week and had tonkatsu for the first time in a while. I knew there was a tonkatsu restaurant in front of this building where I often pass by, but it was my first visit. The lunch menu was reasonably priced, with the most expensive item being 1,100 yen. I decided to go with the katsudon as I usually don't expect delicious tonkatsu in this price range. The katsudon here was unique with a sauce flavor and topped with scrambled eggs. It also came with miso soup, all for a very reasonable price. I wasn't expecting much, but the meal, including the rice and miso soup, was quite delicious. Following the recommendation of the owner, I tried sprinkling a little shichimi spice on top, and it definitely added to the flavor. I would like to revisit this place for dinner sometime.

In this price range, this tonkatsu restaurant is overwhelmingly delicious. Especially the 2,300 yen hirekatsu set is the best. The oil is sweet, no smell, and the meat tastes great, so I recommend eating it with salt. "Listen, young student, strive to be able to eat tonkatsu anytime. That's the balance between not being too picky or too poor, just right." Oishinbo Comics Volume 11 "Tonkatsu Longing"
