A couple's trip to Senso-ji Temple. The wife wanted to see the famous Kaminarimon Gate, so we came here. It's a week before Golden Week, but the area is already bustling with people like before the pandemic, which is nice to see. When in Asakusa, you must try ningyo-yaki (sweet cakes). We bought some as souvenirs, and this shop on Nakamise Street is one of the cheapest. They even have freshly baked ones that don't last long, perfect for eating at home right away. The simple sweetness never gets old, it's delicious every time.

After enjoying soba and sake, I was wandering around Nakamise when a girl suddenly demanded, "Give me some strawberry candy!" I bought a strawberry candy for 500 yen using PayPay, and surprisingly, the strawberry itself was delicious. The store also had a space in the back that served as a warehouse and eating area, which was convenient in the midst of the crowd. Thank you for the meal!

In front of the Kaminarimon Gate, there is a souvenir shop. They were selling dorayaki for 2 bags for 500 yen, so I couldn't resist buying them. Each bag contains 8 large dorayaki for 250 yen. I was happy to have the choice between chunky sweet red bean paste and smooth red bean paste. I prefer chunky red bean paste, so I bought that without hesitation. The gentle sweetness is delightful. The castella sponge cake is delicious.

After enjoying unagi (eel) over rice at "Hatsukogawa" in Asakusa, I visited Sensoji Temple. It had been many years since my last visit. I had seen on the news during the COVID restrictions that it was quiet and empty, but now it is quite crowded, although foreign visitors are still few. After offering my prayers with a solemn feeling, I bought some senbei (rice crackers) on Nakamise Street. I like senbei, especially with green tea. I don't eat them often, but I usually enjoy them, except for the sweet ones. I bought a variety pack here, which I enjoyed at home with green tea over three separate occasions. They were not as crispy as freshly baked ones, but still good. Speaking of senbei, I remembered the famous Iriyama Senbei shop in Asakusa that closed 2-3 years ago. Their large, hard senbei was a favorite, loved by even Taro Okamoto. It was a shame that the shop closed. I also like Matsuzaki Senbei in Ginza, which seems to have moved to Higashi-Ginza now. In Osaka, I used to enjoy Toyosu Arare, a type of rice cracker. I hope the small shops that continue to make senbei will keep up their efforts and continue to deliver their unique characteristics to people in the future.

I was served promptly as it was still in the morning, so there was no waiting time. The seaweed was delicious. I was guided to the dining area at the back where there are no chairs, so you have to stand and eat. I hope we can start eating out and about soon.

When you come to Asakusa, you can't miss the senbei here. Beyond the wet senbei, there is the sticky senbei... Wet senbei tends to be sweet, but sticky senbei is just salty. This saltiness becomes addictive... The fist-shaped senbei was delicious too, but I still prefer the sticky senbei (laughs).

From Kameju-san, passing through the Kaminarimon to Nakamise, there is this shop here. I always end up buying from here (≧∇≦) I realized I hadn't posted about it before. The dorayaki (Japanese pancake filled with sweet red bean paste) here is super cheap. Only 250 yen per bag!! Even though it's a senbei (rice cracker) shop, I hadn't bought senbei before haha. So this time, I bought dorayaki and also tried the Rai Okoshi for 250 yen. They even gave me an extra dorayaki. I really like dorayaki!! Next time, I'll try buying senbei too (≧∇≦) I forgot to take a picture of the shop, haha.

The live feeling of watching the senbei being flipped over repeatedly is irresistible. The scent of the freshly baked senbei wafts through the air. As you get closer to the front of the line, your smile grows wider. I'm not the only one - everyone is smiling and waiting patiently in line. The prices are reasonable: Senbei for ¥50, wet senbei for ¥100, and nori senbei for ¥100. While there are similar shops around, I decided to line up at this one. The senbei are made one after the other, then brought to the sales area. It's affordable and they hand you the senbei wrapped in paper. The wet senbei and nori senbei are dipped in a special soy sauce before being handed to you. The staff's quick and skilled hands make the process smooth. It's a simple but delicious experience. And they even have a polite request written on the paper they wrap the senbei in. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

On a holiday around 4:50 PM, I visited a long-established rice cracker shop founded in the Meiji era. You can buy your favorite flavor of rice crackers from just one piece, so there is a constant line of customers in front of the shop. Some people are buying rice crackers in bags as well. In the back, you can see the staff baking the rice crackers. I bought the popular "senbei" for one piece. Currently, eating while walking around Nakamise is prohibited, and the shop's sign says "Please do not eat in front of other shops," so I ate it standing there. The "senbei" is cheap at 50 yen per piece, but it's small, so the price is fair for a single piece. It has a nice texture with a soft and crispy feel. I'm sure it will be crispy when it cools down. The softness is different from the moist softness of the commonly sold "nure senbei," unique to freshly baked rice crackers. The seasoning is not too salty, so you can eat as many as you want. Although I didn't eat it, the second most popular item is the "nure senbei." I watched others buy it and dip the "senbei" in the sauce in a small container. I wonder what the texture of this "nure senbei" is like. I enjoyed the delicious rice crackers. Thank you for the meal.

I was watching the mikoshi parade at Sansha Matsuri in Nakamise Street when I noticed they were making senbei right next to me. I'll take one of each, please. I love the atmosphere, it feels like something out of a Tora-san movie. Of course, the street is crowded with foreign tourists, but the senbei are freshly made and delicious. They have regular senbei, nori senbei, and wasabi nori senbei. They are all well-cooked and hot, with a texture that makes you feel like they were just made. The nori and wasabi flavors are not overpowering, making them easy to eat. It's a festive treat. They are a bit pricey for just one piece, but it's worth trying when you have the chance! Thank you for the meal!

I love Nagano's manga "MOGUMOGU Tabearuki Kuma", and this time I decided to follow the second episode "Asakusa food tour" exactly as it is in the manga. I went to the shops in order: 1) Asakusa Kibidango Azuma, 2) Coffee Tengoku, 3) Asakusa Menchi, 4) Ichibanya freshly baked senbei sold by the piece. I arrived at a place that I think is the right one. They sell four types of senbei: wet senbei, Asakusa nori senbei, wasabi senbei, all for 100 yen each. Of course, I got the same "wasabi nori senbei" as in the manga, but also got my favorite "wet senbei". The wasabi nori senbei was wrapped in paper. It was simple and nice. The wasabi had a bit of a kick to it. The wet senbei, on the other hand, was not wrapped in paper but in a plastic bag. It was quite salty because it was wet with soy sauce. It was a bit different from what I expected, but it's the only place where you can eat freshly baked senbei by the piece, so everyone should try it! Thank you for the meal!

This is a shop in Nakamise Street at Asakusa Sensoji Temple. Whenever I come to Asakusa for a meal, I always end up buying some traditional Asakusa sweets like Raiokoshi and Ningyoyaki. The Raiokoshi was surprisingly soft and sweet, unlike the usual hard and chewy texture. Ningyoyaki is delicious when toasted in an oven until crispy. I highly recommend trying them out!

I went to "Ichiban-ya," a long-established senbei (rice cracker) shop founded in Meiji 17, located in the middle of Nakamise Street in Asakusa. They offer hand-baked senbei, wet senbei, burnt rice senbei, thunder senbei, and ningyo-yaki (doll-shaped cake). Thunder senbei, which is said to bring good luck with the words "Bring honor to your family and name" written on it, is a perfect lucky charm to sell in shrine precincts. As I watched people walking down the street enveloped in the fragrant smell of soy sauce senbei being baked at the storefront, images of the Meiji era scenery came to mind. The big-sized senbei made of green peas, sweet and firm like thunder senbei, was very satisfying to eat. Thank you for the meal.

Strawberry Candy: Made with domestic fresh strawberries, each skewer costs ¥500. The candy is crunchy with a sweet strawberry flavor. The juicy strawberry pieces inside are small and delicious. Perfect for eating on the go without feeling too full.

Hmm, is it because of the cheap price during the pandemic? Or just a coincidence? Takoyaki: 150 yen. It's kind of strange that there's only an overall score for takeout, right? Taste: ★★★☆☆ Service: ★★★★☆ Ambiance: ★★★☆☆ Value for money: ★★★★★

It is located on a side street off Asakusa Nakamise Street. They have various flavors of senbei, including interesting ones like garlic shichimi. The freshly made ones are really delicious and crispy.
