Shinjuku Sanchome Station is about a 2-minute walk away, and Shinjuku Station is about the same distance. It depends on which exit you use. I've been to a shop on the opposite side of Shinjuku, at the west exit, and I had the impression that it was just like any other shop, but it turns out that's not the case. It seems like there are only 7 stores in Tokyo and none in Yokohama. I thought it was a chain, so I didn't rush to go, but I regretted not going sooner when I realized how delicious it was when I was younger. Today, the shop I was looking for was closed, so I went to this nearby shop instead. It was around 8:30 PM on a weekday, and there were many customers before and after me. There were many men dining alone. The shop has a narrow entrance and extends deep inside. The staff all seemed to be foreigners. I didn't know this, but on Thursdays, the wonton noodles are 30% off! I sat at the counter and ordered the wonton noodles since it was Thursday. However, the menu is extensive. You can add extra wontons, or even get a set with rice for under 1,000 yen. After a short wait, my noodles arrived. Even at 810 yen, it was cheap, but today it was 567 yen. What a deal. The soup was filled to the brim, and it brought back memories! (After all, the last time I had it was over 10 years ago). Let's dig in! First, the soup... It's piping hot! The color is light, a clear broth made from chicken bones and fresh vegetables. At first, I thought it was a bit light, but it's not. They simmer it for 8 hours on a very low heat to make sure it doesn't boil. Oh, the wonton noodles are available in salt or soy sauce, and I chose salt. They blend several types of salt. There's also chicken white broth wonton noodles available. Mmm, delicious! The wilted greens are nice too. There's plenty of green onions, which were sourced fresh that morning. The noodles are straight and thin, with a good amount of kansui. They have a smooth texture and a good mouthfeel. However, they lack firmness, which makes it more Chinese than Japanese ramen, if you compare it to the usual Japanese ramen. The bamboo shoots are cut finely and go well with the clear soup. The noodles come with a boiled egg, which is a nice touch. And the wontons! There are a whopping 10 of them. First, have them as they are. The smooth skin is original. Delicious! Then, you can customize them with the homemade sauce. With 10 pieces, you can enjoy various combinations. The juicy pork filling is great! The staff is energetic too. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you for the meal!
