During my commute, I noticed this shop that caught my interest. I decided to go in because in winter, ramen is the best choice, right? Upon entering the shop, the staff immediately seated me. Since I was alone, I sat at the counter. It seems like the first floor has counter seating and the kitchen, while the spacious table seating is on the basement floor. I didn't see the basement seating, so I'm not sure. I went there around 4 pm, and they were still serving lunch until 5 pm. The lunch menu included noodle dishes like wonton noodles and rice dishes. You could choose from rice with pickled vegetables, rice with char siu, or a half and half option. The standard wonton noodles also had a choice of soy sauce or salt. I chose the salt-flavored wonton noodles with a side of both rice options. I think this lunch set was around 850 yen. The salt-flavored wonton noodles had a soup that brought out the umami of the chicken, without any overpowering seasonings, allowing you to taste the true chicken flavor. It was simple but elegant and had a gentle taste. The saltiness was just right, not too salty. The wontons they are known for had soft skin and a filling of meat and green onions. They had a simple and light flavor but were delicious. When they brought the wonton noodles, they also brought a vinegar-based sauce that was like a spicy miso sauce. They suggested dipping the wontons in the sauce like dumplings, and it was delicious. The wontons had a light taste, and dipping them in the slightly spicy sauce added a nice touch. It was delicious. The wontons were tasty, but the standout was the slightly crunchy spinach and bamboo shoots! They paired perfectly with the soup from the wonton noodles. I realized that more than other ramen toppings, these bamboo shoots matched the soup the best. I've always eaten bamboo shoots with ramen, but it turns out they also go well with the soup! Conversely, the noodles didn't have much of a distinctive taste, which was good because it didn't overpower the soup, but it was a bit plain, so I thought it was a bit of a waste. The rice dish with pickled vegetables and char siu was pretty straightforward. The pickled vegetables were soft with a sweet and slightly spicy taste, mixed with bonito flakes. I prefer a bit more crunch. The char siu was thinly sliced and tender, with a soy sauce-based sauce. The thickness was thin, making it soft. In terms of service, I had a very positive impression. The female server was mostly non-Japanese, but she was quick with the seating and provided some helpful explanations. I was eating while watching the kitchen, and even though it was busy, the coordination between the kitchen and the front of the house was well done, giving an overall lively and energetic impression. The wonton noodles were delicious, the service was good, and it was nice to see jasmine tea on the table instead of water! Next time, I might try the shrimp wonton noodles or even the dumplings. I would definitely consider revisiting to try the dumplings. Thank you for the meal!

I've been craving for wonton noodles since last night, so I aimed to be the first in line when the restaurant opened at 11 PM. Customers kept coming in and within 10 minutes, the place was full. I love wonton noodles from Guangzhou market! Today, I had baked shrimp wonton, fried wonton, and two types of wonton noodles with onions and homemade chili oil on top. It was so delicious! I had never tried it at this branch before, and the atmosphere was different but refreshing. The ginger sweet vinegar was too sweet for me, but the salted ginger was tasty! The wonton dish was great, but for some reason, the most popular dish was the oil-splashed chicken. They even have a set meal with oil-splashed chicken. Having wonton noodles with beer in the afternoon was the best time. Next time, I want to try the whole shrimp wonton.

The restaurant serves delicious wonton noodles and has several locations in Tokyo. The one in Shinjuku is located near the east exit, close to Kinokuniya bookstore. I ordered the lunch set with handmade wonton noodles in a savory meat broth (1209 yen). The soup had a salty flavor with added pork fat for richness. The noodles were thick and chewy, just as I had hoped for. The wontons were generously filled and tasted delicious. I enjoyed mixing and matching different flavors using the condiments on the table. Although I wish there were more counter seats, the long lunch hours until 5 pm make it convenient for me to visit again.

I like wonton noodles. When I look at the characters, I think it beautifully represents the wisdom of ancient Chinese people. Perhaps it's because of its shape, but you can also sense that in its texture. About 20 years ago, when I was stationed in Hong Kong, I often ate this typical Hong Kong snack because it was easy to eat. However, surprisingly in Japan, there are many Chinese restaurants that don't serve it, and even if they do, the taste is quite different from what I had in Hong Kong. There are two branches of this restaurant in Shinjuku, one on the east side and one on the west side. The east side restaurant caught my attention as I often passed by it. On a leisurely holiday with nothing particular to do, I decided to walk there. There were no people waiting outside, but there were about two groups inside. The ground floor is long and narrow, with the kitchen on the right side at the back, and 4-5 counter seats facing the kitchen. There is a staircase leading downstairs in front of the counter. There seem to be seats downstairs as well. I was handed the menu before being seated. I ordered the simplest "Cantonese wonton noodles" rice set. I chose the pickled vegetable rice. I sat at the far end of the counter. I must say this restaurant is not particularly clean. Perhaps it's because it's old, but the floor feels sticky and unpleasant under my sneakers. They served quite a generous portion of wonton noodles. I was surprised to find ten wontons in the bowl, along with a good amount of noodles. There are condiments on the table, so you can adjust the flavor as you eat. However, in Hong Kong, wonton noodles are usually eaten as they are, like ramen, and I have never encountered adding anything to them. Cantonese style might be slightly different. But with ten wontons, I tried adding a bit of black vinegar, which was also good. In addition, I had the pickled vegetable rice, and of course, I never leave food uneaten, so I finished everything, feeling quite full. This was a bit too much for me. The total bill, including tax, was just over 1,000 yen. It's quite reasonable. It might be good to visit occasionally.

Sometimes I crave ramen with extra-large servings of soupless wonton noodles. It has a spicy and stimulating flavor, especially when you add some chili oil. The thick noodles provide a satisfying bite. I also recommend trying the Guangzhou-style meat juice wonton noodles with a choice of salt or soy sauce. The light saltiness complements the flavorful meat juice that seeps out of the wontons. It's enjoyable to experiment with different seasonings while eating.

I visited the restaurant around 12:30 on a weekday. It's a chain restaurant that I've never been to before. Lately, I've been eating a lot of dim sum, even though I haven't written about it on my food blog. Once I get hooked on something, I can't stop eating it. So, I entered the restaurant! There were about 4 seats at the counter on the first floor and a kitchen, and downstairs there were about 10 tables for 2-4 people. When I arrived, it was full, so I had to wait a bit before being seated downstairs. I ordered the lunch set of "Mini Wonton Noodle Soup (salt) and Mini Rice (Lo Lo Fan)". There are 3 types of rice to choose from, but selecting Lo Lo Fan will cost an additional 120 yen. I missed that detail, so please be careful. When I placed my order, the staff recommended that I look at the instructions on how to eat the wontons. The recommended ways were with chili oil & vinegar, sweet and sour onions, salted ginger, and black vinegar. You can customize your dipping sauce with the condiments provided on the table. The food arrived in about 5 minutes. It smelled so good! It looked delicious! Let's dig in! It was delicious! The slightly sweet salt soup coated the curly noodles nicely. I decided to try the wontons without any sauce first. The skin was smooth and chewy, with a well-seasoned juicy filling. It was delicious on its own. I enjoyed changing the flavors, but I wanted to finish the noodles before they got soggy. Then, I tried the Lo Lo Fan. It was also delicious! And even though it was a mini size, it was generously topped! Can I finish it all? Time to change up the wonton flavors. I tried black vinegar, salted ginger, onions, and chili oil before settling on black vinegar & salted ginger, and the limited-time chive soy sauce. My favorite was the black vinegar and onions. I want to try black vinegar & onions next time. It's definitely going to be delicious. Also, when I added the leftover black vinegar from the spoon into the wonton soup, it was so tasty. If I add onions to that... just thinking about it... I'll definitely go back again. Thank you for the meal.

After watching a movie at Shinjuku Piccadilly, I stopped by "Guangzhou Ichiba" on the way home. It only takes about 1 minute to walk from the movie theater to this shop. I visited on a Sunday at 9:15 p.m. There were 2 customers at the counter seats on the first floor. The staff said, "You can sit at the counter seats or downstairs, whichever you prefer." I chose the counter seat. I have visited the "Otsuka branch" of Guangzhou Ichiba several times before, but this branch is my first time. However, since it is a chain store, the content is likely to be almost the same. After glancing at the menu, I ordered "Guangzhou Wonton Noodle (10 wontons) Rice Set (salt flavor)" and "Lu Rou Fan (braised pork on rice)". There was also draft beer available, but I decided to skip it this time. Sometimes it's good to take a break from alcohol. By the way, a medium-sized draft beer is 594 yen including tax. Kirin Ichiban Shibori. It took 4 minutes from ordering to the Wonton Noodle being served. The soup has a gentle light salt flavor. The noodles are thin like Hong Kong noodles. A giant ladle that can hold a whole wonton catches the eye. You can enjoy putting the wonton in here and topping it with the 5 types of sauces on the table. The wontons come in a generous 10 pieces, and the meat inside the wonton is voluminous like a meatball. The lineup of sauces to put on the wonton is as follows: - Spicy chili oil - Onion sweet vinegar - Salt and pepper - Black vinegar - Yuzu chili paste (limited edition until August 14, 2023) All the sauces are delicious. The way of eating where you keep changing the flavor continuously makes it so you never get tired of eating the 10 wontons. The Lu Rou Fan arrived 3 minutes after the Wonton Noodle. It comes with pork, pickled mustard greens, and half a boiled egg on top. The pork has a strong authentic flavor with a hint of mint. It's delicious. The total bill was 1209 yen. I paid with PayPay. It's quite cheap for the amount of food. Thank you for the meal.

I visit for the wontons, which I crave periodically. The soupless tantanmen with a spicy kick is delicious. The chili oil adds a punch to the flavor. I recommend trying the Jajangmen (limited time only) for a rich miso taste. Even though it makes my mouth oily, the satisfying feeling of eating it is enjoyable.

This is my first time visiting this restaurant. It specializes in fresh handmade wontons without any premade ingredients. Besides wontons, the oil-drizzled chicken (Youlinji) was also delicious. The wontons come in a soup, which can be enjoyed as is or with the condiments provided on the table to create different flavors. I particularly enjoyed eating them with black vinegar and ginger, which reminded me of xiaolongbao.

This is a shop worth lining up for. Start by trying the wonton noodles. The noodles have a different texture from Japanese ramen, being quite thin and slippery. You can choose between salt and soy sauce flavors, but salt is recommended.

After watching a movie in Shinjuku, I felt a bit hungry and wanted something cold to eat. So, I visited Koshuichiba Shinjuku Higashiguchi branch and ordered the Cold Salted Chicken Wonton Noodles for 900 yen. By showing my movie ticket stub, I received a 10% discount on my order, which was served in about 10 minutes. The cold chicken broth soup was flavorful yet refreshing, perfect for cooling down my body. Mixing in some yuzu pepper as a condiment added a refreshing touch. The thin straight noodles had a nice firmness and a great texture, complementing the soup well. The wontons were hot but filled with plenty of filling, making it a satisfying dish. The minced meat and soft-boiled egg were also delicious additions. If I had to make a suggestion, I would prefer the wontons to be served cold. Thank you for the meal. I have mistakenly thought the restaurant's name was Yangzhou Shangren for a long time. I apologize.

There is also a branch on the west side of Shinjuku Station. I have always liked the lively yet somehow calming atmosphere. There are seats underground as well, so even if it looks crowded, you can usually get in quickly. This time, I sat downstairs. Come to think of it, there may not be a counter, but even though I was alone, I sat at a table. The menu booklet wasn't on my table, but I saw a set that looked like a good deal, so I quickly decided on that. It was the Night Set Meal. You can choose between a Lunch Wonton Noodle (7 pieces) and a set where you can choose between dumplings or grilled shrimp wontons, all for 1,210 yen. You could choose between salt or soy sauce for the wonton noodles. When you order the wonton noodles, they ask if you know how to eat wontons and there is also an explanation on the table. The first one you eat as is, and after that, you can customize it as you like. The order comes quite quickly. First, the wonton noodles arrived. Using a unique wonton spoon, I took a bite of the hot wonton, with its large, jiggly skin and plenty of juicy filling. It was delicious. The second item was my favorite black vinegar, and there were many other condiments available, allowing you to customize the taste. The soup was light but with a soy sauce aroma that spread throughout your body, giving it an old-fashioned flavor. The boiled egg was not too firm, which added to the retro feel. The noodles were jiggly and slightly soft, with a round flavor. Slurping them up with plenty of soup was delightful. I like to top my wonton noodles with various condiments, but I prefer to enjoy the ramen part as is. Before long, the grilled dumplings arrived. The cute dumplings with wings were small and easy to eat, with a well-balanced filling. The crispy surface was delicious. The staff at the restaurant were very efficient, and it was interesting to see the coordination between the first floor and the basement. They also serve alcohol, so having some drinks and then finishing with wonton noodles could be a good idea.

I visited at night and ordered wonton noodles with soy sauce. There were about 10 wontons in the dish, so it was quite filling. There were several condiments on the table for the wontons, and I particularly liked using the onions. The noodles were thin and easy to slurp. Thursdays offer a 30% discount, so it tends to get crowded.

Shinjuku Sanchome Station is about a 2-minute walk away, and Shinjuku Station is about the same distance. It depends on which exit you use. I've been to a shop on the opposite side of Shinjuku, at the west exit, and I had the impression that it was just like any other shop, but it turns out that's not the case. It seems like there are only 7 stores in Tokyo and none in Yokohama. I thought it was a chain, so I didn't rush to go, but I regretted not going sooner when I realized how delicious it was when I was younger. Today, the shop I was looking for was closed, so I went to this nearby shop instead. It was around 8:30 PM on a weekday, and there were many customers before and after me. There were many men dining alone. The shop has a narrow entrance and extends deep inside. The staff all seemed to be foreigners. I didn't know this, but on Thursdays, the wonton noodles are 30% off! I sat at the counter and ordered the wonton noodles since it was Thursday. However, the menu is extensive. You can add extra wontons, or even get a set with rice for under 1,000 yen. After a short wait, my noodles arrived. Even at 810 yen, it was cheap, but today it was 567 yen. What a deal. The soup was filled to the brim, and it brought back memories! (After all, the last time I had it was over 10 years ago). Let's dig in! First, the soup... It's piping hot! The color is light, a clear broth made from chicken bones and fresh vegetables. At first, I thought it was a bit light, but it's not. They simmer it for 8 hours on a very low heat to make sure it doesn't boil. Oh, the wonton noodles are available in salt or soy sauce, and I chose salt. They blend several types of salt. There's also chicken white broth wonton noodles available. Mmm, delicious! The wilted greens are nice too. There's plenty of green onions, which were sourced fresh that morning. The noodles are straight and thin, with a good amount of kansui. They have a smooth texture and a good mouthfeel. However, they lack firmness, which makes it more Chinese than Japanese ramen, if you compare it to the usual Japanese ramen. The bamboo shoots are cut finely and go well with the clear soup. The noodles come with a boiled egg, which is a nice touch. And the wontons! There are a whopping 10 of them. First, have them as they are. The smooth skin is original. Delicious! Then, you can customize them with the homemade sauce. With 10 pieces, you can enjoy various combinations. The juicy pork filling is great! The staff is energetic too. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

I crave the taste of these soupless wonton noodles regularly! I ordered them with a spicy kick, making me break out into a gentle sweat. The spiciness is not overwhelming, as there is plenty of umami flavor. Topping it off with garlic oil adds even more deliciousness. The yuzu salt wonton noodles are light and refreshing, with a broth that perfectly complements the thin noodles. The limited-time curry garlic topping was not too heavy on the curry flavor, which was great.

Well, if that's the case, it's fine to order separately, but due to the state of my wallet, it's a set, so I anticipated that the noodles would come out first due to the cooking time, but if the beer and noodles were served at the same time, that would be sad. The beer took a long time to arrive, so today's match might be a bit iffy.

This was my first visit to this restaurant in a while. I reread my old review and realized that the soupless tantanmen that used to cost 850 yen is now 1023 yen! The rising prices are harsh. I was wandering around Shinjuku in the evening and feeling a bit hungry, so I decided to go in with a friend. My friend ordered the Guangzhou wonton noodle soup with 10 wontons and a mini-sized braised pork rice set for 1067 yen. I ordered the soupless tantanmen with wontons for 1023 yen. The soupless tantanmen comes with a soy sauce flavored soup. I completely forgot how spicy the soupless tantanmen was, and my tongue went numb from the spiciness. I thought the wontons would help balance it out, but there were only four of them, so they didn't really help much. The wontons here are delicious, so I wish they would reduce the amount of noodles and add more wontons. The noodles were slightly chewy and medium thickness. It was spicy but had a good level of spiciness, and overall, it was delicious. However, it's a bit pricey for a single dish over 1000 yen. Even though it comes with soup, there were only four wontons. It was enough for a light dinner, but my friend, who eats a lot, struggled with the portion of noodles, wontons, and rice. I ended up helping her finish the wontons. The staff, who I believe are Chinese, provide good service. I had to accept that the slippery floors and somewhat questionable table hygiene are just part of the experience. It seems like they have a good selection of appetizers, so I might try the wonton soup and rice dishes next time.
