It was predicted to be crowded, so I arrived early on a weekday, but no one was lining up even at opening time. I purchased an Edomae Tendon (¥1500) and miso soup (¥130) from the ticket machine outside, and became the first customer of the day when I entered the restaurant. I handed the ticket to the staff at the counter, sanitized my hands, and sat at a counter seat of my choice. There were already small plates with two black beans in a teacup placed on the counter seats, and a pot labeled "Black Bean Tea" on the table seats. I poured the black beans from the pot into the teacup. In the kitchen, there was a woman in charge of serving the freshly fried tempura on a bowl inside the counter. It was dark in the back kitchen, so it was unclear how many people were there. I could confirm one person. When they had free hands, they were diligently peeling shrimp behind the counter. After a while, a bowl and miso soup were handed to me across the counter. When handing over the bowl, I was told to add the two bowls (one with ginger and the other with pickled radish) placed on the counter to the rice. The miso soup had small pieces of tofu in it, and although it was a normal miso soup, it was expensive at ¥130. The taste was not worth the price. The tempura bowl had an anago eel in the center with a thick batter. It also had two small shrimp, shishito pepper, squid and small fish tempura, seaweed, and a half-cooked egg. The half-cooked egg was nothing compared to the original store's version. Perhaps they are practicing their tempura frying technique here before going to the main store. The rice lacked enough sauce, so I had to pour additional sauce from the counter to be able to eat it. Also, the rice was a bit firm, I wish the rice in the tempura bowl was cooked a bit softer. After eating all the tempura and rice, I was surprised by how deep the bowl was! That's why they offer a large size option (¥110) on the menu. I've never seen a bowl this deep before. Well, for me, this amount of rice is just right, so no problem.

I feel like eating eel, or more specifically, I want to eat the tempura bowl here. This Edo-style tempura bowl with eel has a refreshing yuzu aroma and a savory sesame oil flavor that makes it delicious on its own. Of course, it's a given that it tastes great when you eat it, and the generous portion of eel is fantastic. You can also enjoy the pickled ginger with burdock, making it a satisfying meal. Thank you for the meal.

Established in the 43rd year of the Meiji era, this historic shop is located in Kanda Ogawamachi. It is famous for its Edo-style tempura rice bowl. The exterior of the shop is simple, with white walls and a red signboard and lantern that catch the eye. Inside, there are counter and table seats, creating a cozy atmosphere. The staff are friendly and attentive, making the ordering and serving process smooth. It is recommended to arrive early or make a reservation as the shop tends to get crowded during lunch hours. I ordered the signature Edo-style tempura rice bowl (1,550 yen), which was visually appealing with colorful shrimp and vegetables piled on top of rice. The tempura was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with a sweet and savory sauce. The shrimp were plump and meaty, while the vegetables were crunchy and sweet. The rice was moist and soaked in the sauce. The miso soup was light and refreshing, cleansing the palate after the oiliness of the tempura. The portion was just right, leaving a satisfying feeling.

I went to eat tendon, but the price went up? The vegetable tendon is now 1150 yen (without miso soup)... Well, the mushrooms are delicious, the eggplant is delicious. The shrimp is a bit overcooked as usual, but still tasty so it's okay.

I was lucky to be able to enter without waiting after purchasing a meal ticket. They have black soybean tea (hot) on the counter, but you can ask for cold water instead. The freshly fried tempura was delicious as expected. Thank you for the meal ☺️

Recently, I visited the restaurant chain specializing in difficult-to-handle fried foods, particularly tempura, run by Mr. Kaneko Hanzo, who is becoming more and more visible in outlets and various locations. The rapid expansion of this chain is a cause for concern regarding the growth and acquisition of skilled fry cooks. This particular establishment had one fry cook and four other staff members handling operations efficiently. The service staff were mostly young women, possibly university students, with average customer service and a tendency to talk amongst themselves. The complimentary black soybeans in the rice bowl and the self-serve black soybean tea were delicious. The menu was simple, indicating good cost management. I ordered the special tempura rice bowl, which included white fish instead of mushrooms and eggplants for an additional 100 yen, totaling 1250 yen. If you want to add mushrooms and eggplants separately, the price is quite high. If you want to substitute eel for the omitted items, it costs 1550 yen. It seems that you have to omit something to stay within your budget. For those who want to add various items, it's more cost-effective to order the basic tempura rice bowl and then add items separately. The dish arrived in about 5 minutes, with a well-balanced presentation, although the soft-boiled egg in the center was disappointing. The small bowl made it difficult to capture all the items in a photo. I wish there was an option to have the egg on the side for those who don't like it on top of their tempura. Once I carefully moved the egg aside and started eating, the well-shaped small tempura pieces were delicious without any fishy taste. My initial concerns were alleviated. The shrimp, although small, had a good flavor. The frying technique, which I was worried about, was perfect except for the egg. The rice was cooked to my preferred firmness, with a nice bounce to it, and the sauce had a good balance of sweetness and tanginess. The self-serve pickles added a nice touch. Overall, I was very satisfied with the meal, considering it a small luxury for when you have a little extra money to spare. I would be happy to try their other establishments if the frying technique is consistent.

It's been a while since I had lunch here. I didn't realize the vegetable tempura bowl had gone up in price, but the cost performance is still great! Just like last time, the tempura was a bit too fried, with a burnt taste, but considering the deliciousness and price, it's not a problem. For a quick lunch to eat and go, this place is unbeatable in terms of cost performance.

I went for the first time around 11:30. There were about eight people inside. I had the Edo-style tempura bowl with miso soup. I had been curious about it for a while, so I stopped by after finishing my errands. It was delicious, but not enough to be impressed. It was a shame that the sauce dripped from the outside of the bowl and got on my hands.

Well, I passed by Kaneko Hanzo in Nihonbashi for Sunday lunch before, but it was so crowded that I even gave up on lining up... However, today is Saturday evening... It should be less crowded on a Saturday night in Kanda, so I decided to come here. As expected, it was not crowded, with only one group inside. I purchased an Edomae Tendon from the ticket machine outside, with a regular size of rice. I sat at a table and enjoyed the pickles - daikon radish (soft) and ginger pickles. Very delicious pickles, a nice appetizer before the Tendon arrives. It was served in about 10 minutes. The taste of the Tendon was okay, not extremely delicious. The Tendon was tasty! But not overwhelmingly so. The shrimp and eel were a bit bland... The tempura, which seemed to be squid, had a strong taste of the ingredient. We also ordered an additional white fish because my companion had leftover rice, but the taste of the fish was not remarkable. The egg was half-cooked, which was nice to eat by breaking it. Since the Tendon itself was a bit bland, I thought I could enjoy the taste of the ingredients, but it was not the case... I like mild flavors, so the mild taste was fine for me. If the sauce was too light, you could add more since they provided extra sauce. The miso soup... I don't think it's necessary to pay extra for it... Overall, it is definitely tastier than cheap chain restaurants, but I don't think it's worth paying a high price for... So, I won't visit again. It doesn't exceed the realm of Tendon. The counter seats had no partitions and no space between them, while the tables had some spacing between them.

This is my third time entering this shop. It's easy to get in without waiting in line, but the anago (conger eel) tempura cost 1500 yen. Is it more expensive than the main store? Overall, it seems less greasy than the main store as it is crispy. It feels like it is freshly fried, but it wasn't very hot. I was satisfied because I wanted to eat anago tempura that day. It was crispy and delicious.

I visited Hanosuke at the beginning of summer, but only posting about it now due to laziness. This year, it seems like summer is coming to an end soon, with the hot weather intensifying. Since there are no festival stalls this year, I decided to stop by Hanosuke on my way to the Yasukuni Shrine festival. My stomach was quite empty, so I quickly devoured the pickles while waiting. I only allow myself to have tendon (tempura rice bowl) once a year, and eating it on such a hot day felt like a true blessing! Walking along the Sankin Kotai road from Ogawamachi to Jinbocho, where there are many famous restaurants, made me feel like I had traveled back in time. It reaffirmed my belief that being born in Japan was a wonderful thing, especially during the summer.

The Edo-style mixed tempura rice bowl is absolutely delicious. This time it came with conger eel, which was tasty, and the shrimp was delicious down to the tail. The small fish and squid tempura were also delicious. If I had to nitpick, it would be the half-cooked egg tempura. I'll ask them to change it to something else next time, as I'm not particularly fond of eggs.

I visited this restaurant near my workplace for lunch on Monday, as I had not been there before. I arrived around 12:10 and purchased a ticket for the "Joten Don" for 1200 yen at the ticket machine outside before entering. The restaurant was about 80% full. I was seated at the counter near the entrance. The dish was served in about 8 minutes. The "Joten Don" consisted of 2 shrimp tempura, white fish, vegetable tempura, seaweed, and egg tempura. The staff advised me to mix the egg tempura before eating. It was not amazing, but the tempura was fresh and delicious with a satisfying portion size. I will definitely visit again!

The other day, I visited for lunch. I suddenly felt like eating Anago Tempura, so I went to Hanosuke. It was my first time visiting this store. I chose the Edo-style tempura with Anago. I love all the tempura items - shrimp, scallop, egg, shishito pepper, and Anago. They were all delicious with the sauce. The rice portion was quite generous, so next time I might order a smaller amount.
- Edo-style Tempura Rice Bowl (Anago) with Miso Soup Set - ¥1,620
Thank you for the delicious meal.

It was my second visit in a long time at 1:30pm on a regular day. I had to wait a bit because the counter was full, but I was able to enter in about 5 minutes. I splurged a bit and ordered the Deluxe Tempura Rice Bowl for 1,200 yen (via food ticket). It included tempura of shrimp, white fish, shishito pepper, egg, squid, and scallop. At first glance, it seemed a bit small for a man, but as I ate, I got quite full. The taste was elegant and the flavors of the ingredients were solid, so I was quite satisfied. It would have been even better if the shrimp were a bit bigger due to the high cost of ingredients (lol). The highlight is the "tempura egg" in the center. The staff will suggest mixing it with the rice and eating it! This egg plays a crucial role! I should have mixed it better. The rice was a bit firm, but maybe they cook it that way because you pour tempura dipping sauce over it. I want to go back for a little luxury! The warm black soybean tea served in a pot was also nice. Thank you for the meal.

Do you ever have a sudden craving for tempura rice bowl (tendon)? It's great to be able to enjoy freshly fried tempura at chain restaurants. However, when you start thinking about crispy and juicy shrimp, tender white fish tempura, you can't help but want to try the tendon at a traditional tempura restaurant. After watching a movie in Nihonbashi, paying respects at the Shomentsuka monument, and taking a leisurely stroll from Jinbocho through Takebashi to Ogawamachi, it was lunchtime. I remembered that there was a traditional tempura restaurant around here, so I decided to visit the Ogawamachi branch of Nihonbashi Kaneko Hanzo. The small restaurant had a few counter seats and tables. I purchased a food ticket, handed it to the staff, and was shown to my seat. The sound of tempura sizzling and the fragrant aroma were enticing. Before long, the tendon arrived. I chose the set with miso soup, and it included a well-balanced mix of shrimp tempura, white fish, green pepper, scallops, and squid tempura beautifully arranged in a bowl. It was a feast for the eyes. Thank you for the meal.

The vegetable tempura rice bowl is also delicious. When you buy a meal ticket and enter the restaurant, the fragrant scent of sesame oil enhances your appetite. I usually go for the Edo-style tempura rice bowl (with large eel pieces), but this time I went back to basics and chose the vegetable tempura rice bowl. Even though it's called vegetable tempura, it includes two shrimp. The egg tempura may be a matter of personal preference, but the other vegetables are simply delicious. Next time, I might go for the white fish tempura.

This is my favorite tendon restaurant. I usually order the Edo-style tendon with large anago (1500 yen), but this time I decided to go for the regular tendon (1100 yen) because the Edo-style one feels a bit heavy. The regular tendon comes with two prawns, shishito peppers, scallops, and a half-cooked egg tempura, with shiitake mushrooms and eggplant tempura instead of anago. I wanted to enjoy some vegetable tempura, so I chose the regular tendon. It turned out to be a great choice. The crispy fried prawn tempura was delicious, and the half-cooked egg tempura added a smooth touch to the dish. The eggplant and shiitake mushrooms were light and just right. I always walk from Akihabara to this restaurant, even though it's a bit far from the station, the quality of the food is worth it. If you want to eat delicious tendon, this is the perfect place to go.

This is a revisit. I felt like having a delicious tempura bowl after a long time, and it satisfied me with its consistent taste that I like. Some people say the amount of rice is a bit small, but for me, it's just the right volume. The main tempura has a good portion size as well.

There are various tempura rice bowl restaurants, but in recent years, the usage rate of Kaneko Hanzo is increasing. When you come up the stairs in Awajicho, you can somehow smell the tempura. I'm going to eat tempura rice bowl! Does deciding to eat tempura make you more sensitive to the smell of tempura? I chose the option with plum and miso soup at the vending machine outside the store. I entered the store, handed the food ticket to the staff, and waited at the counter while sipping on green tea. A standard amount of rice in a raised-bottom bowl. On top of that, a sufficient amount of tempura. The tempura is not crispy, but slightly moist, which is my preferred type. The ginger on the table helps to alleviate the greasiness of the tempura, making it a good combination. Even at the same Kaneko Hanzo, it's nice to use it when it's moderately busy on holidays, so you can eat calmly. I would like to use it again on holidays.

I stopped by for lunch and ordered the Upper Tendon for around 1300 yen. It had a very elegant flavor with a crispy and fluffy batter, which was delicious. They also provided free extra broth and two types of pickles (probably instant pickles). The only downside was that the bowl had a raised bottom. It's a shame.
