I visited this restaurant during my business trip to Tokyo. I was recommended to come here by a colleague, so today I made my way to Jimbocho. Even though it was 2:30 PM, there were still people waiting in line, but I got seated relatively quickly as the second group in line. I love extremely spicy food, so I ordered the chicken curry with a spiciness level of 70. The curry arrived in about 15 minutes, and my first impression was that it looked quite simple. I wondered how spicy a level of 70 would be, and it turned out to be a gradually building spiciness that was different from the immediate heat of cayenne pepper. The chicken flavor combined with various spices made it delicious. Next time, I will challenge myself with a level of 100 spiciness. If you have the chance, I recommend trying the 70 spiciness challenge too.

On a public holiday Saturday around 11:10, there were about 4 people waiting outside when I arrived. I waited for about 10 minutes and then entered the first-floor restaurant. I chose the vegetable curry from the ticket machine at the entrance, with a spice level of 5. I also added onion achaar and decided to have half rice, skipping the potatoes. Unlike before, there were bowls of fukujinzuke (pickles) placed on all tables. After waiting for about 10 minutes, my order arrived. It was slightly watery, so next time I think I'll try the chicken curry. The spice level of 5 was just right. One thing that was unclear was the guidance to the first and second floors - it would be helpful if they could separate solo diners on the first floor and groups on the second floor to maybe ease the crowding on the first floor. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant at 13:30 on a regular day and it was full, but luckily I got a seat that someone had just finished eating at. The customers kept coming in non-stop. I ordered a "Chicken and Vegetable Curry" ticket and when asked about the spiciness level, I said "a little spicy" and they suggested making it "double spicy". I overheard other customers asking for "10 times spicy" or "20 times spicy"! On the table, there were boiled potatoes with skin on, different from the usual Baron or Makein, they were small, round blackish skinned potatoes. While enjoying the onion achar (pickle), I waited for about 15 minutes. The achar was delicious especially when eaten with the sweet pickles on the table, creating a perfect harmony of sweet and spicy. The "Chicken and Vegetable Curry" arrived with broccoli, shimeji mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, eggplant, chickpeas, cherry tomatoes, and plenty of chicken chunks. The curry sauce had a unique spice blend that complemented the vegetables well. It was flavorful but not overpowering. Finally, I ended the meal with a chocolate ice cream to cleanse my palate.

Visited Ethiopia for the first time on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, as I was in the area for a work-related visit. I had been eyeing this place for a while. I purchased the Shrimp Curry (1,080 yen) from the ticket machine. The selling point seems to be the wide range of spiciness options, but I'm not good with spicy food so I went with the normal level. Even though the default is medium spiciness, it was only slightly spicy. The portion of rice was quite generous. The soup was on the watery side. The taste was undeniably delicious, but it lacked a distinctive flavor. As it is a famous restaurant, I wonder if it could afford to be more unique. I was surprised by the large amount of shrimp in the curry. There were probably more than 10 shrimp in it. The dessert (sweet matcha ice cream) at the end, paired with the all-you-can-eat potatoes, was an interesting combination.

"A personal revival story at the Ethiopian restaurant" - A year ago, I had visited the main branch of the Ethiopian restaurant feeling disappointed after trying the new mixed chicken dish with enoki mushrooms that I had never seen before. This was a place where I used to love going with my ex-girlfriend, but one disappointing taste experience had led me to stay away from it. However, yesterday, on my way back from running errands in Ochanomizu, my companion insisted on going to the Ethiopian restaurant. Reluctantly, I agreed to go along. But deep down, I felt a bit excited. I probably would have never revisited the place on my own, but with my companion's request, I had no choice. As we sat at the nostalgic second-floor table (as opposed to the counter on the first floor last time), a sudden rainstorm started outside. I decided to avoid the nightmare mixed dish and ordered the beef curry with rice and onion achar for exactly 1000 yen. The non-mixed Ethiopian curry looked beautiful and brought back memories of the delicious taste I used to love. It had that clove flavor that I remembered and the thin watery texture of the Ethiopian curry. Wait, what was it that happened a year ago? I'm sorry, Ethiopian restaurant! It was my fault. I still love your food. Let's stay friends from now on! It was a lovely evening of reconciliation. When we left the restaurant, the rain had stopped."

I went to have curry for breakfast, but ended up craving something more ordinary afterwards. I felt like the spiciness was lacking. So I decided to quickly finish it and went upstairs. As I entered, I thought "Alright, time to eat." However, the service was slower than I expected today. It may have been average, but I was hoping for a slightly faster service. When the dish finally arrived, it was the same as the one ordered by the person next to me who came later. That's disappointing. I hurriedly finished my meal and calmed down with a strawberry ice cream. Let's head back now. It was a bit chaotic today. Even though I generally like this place, my review is slightly reserved this time due to the long wait. Anyway, thanks for the meal. *thumbs up*

I started coming here 20 years ago and visited for the first time in a while. Today I had the vegetable and bean curry, which used to be a dilemma between beef or chicken but lately I've been ordering more vegetable dishes. This time I also added beans, and it cost 1,020 yen. Very reasonable. As always, the harmony of spices is wonderful, even without animal protein I never get tired of it, and I can feel the umami until the end, it's mysterious. I feel like I could eat it forever... Today was also fantastic. Thank you, my favorite.

Arrived on Sunday at 12:10. About 10 people waiting on the second floor. If you want to sit at a table with multiple people, you should line up on the second floor. I have gone upstairs when there were only two of us, and I remember the staff directing us. On the first floor, there was one person waiting. Since I was alone, I got seated on the first floor by 12:15. I ordered the chicken curry. I went for the spiciness level 15 again (there is a guide that says 0 is normal, 3 is spicy, and 12 is very spicy). A customer who came later ordered level 70. First time encountering such extreme spiciness. The taste, maybe from garlic, has a distinctive flavor, not extremely strong but noticeable. I still can't quite put my finger on it, but I like this taste a lot.

I arrived 1 hour and 30 minutes before the restaurant opened on Sunday, and there were no other people in line. The staff told me I didn't need to line up so early since they open at 11:00, but I waited at Starbucks nearby and returned at 10:30 to be first in line. The place quickly filled up after opening. My husband and I ordered a chicken curry and a beef curry. My husband debated ordering extra rice and curry, but we both stuck to regular portions. We chose a spice level of "3." The curry portions were generous, especially the rice. It seemed a bit much for a regular-sized person! I found myself running out of curry with the amount of rice served, so next time, I'll opt for extra curry. The curry had a nice aroma of spices and was simple yet delicious. I definitely want to come back again.

- Vegetable Beef Curry: The curry has a strong spice flavor with a delicious taste of simmered vegetables. It's addictive. The spiciness is not too mild nor too strong, just right in the middle. The portion of rice is satisfying and gives off a masculine vibe. - Atmosphere: Quick service like a ramen shop. - Price: 1290 yen

It was a little after 3 pm on Saturday. It was easy to get in, as there wasn't much of a line on the second floor. I had avoided coming here before because I had the image that it would be crowded, but I was relieved to find out that it's not too busy depending on the time. It's a ticket vending machine type of place where you can only pay with cash. Luckily, I had my wallet with me. I was able to buy a vegetable curry with just one 1000 yen bill. You can choose the level of spiciness and the drink after you sit down. Since it was my first time, I chose the zero spiciness, but it turned out to be mild. They also ask if you want less rice and can adjust the spiciness accordingly. When I went to get my ticket, they brought boiled sweet potatoes with spiced salt for snacking. The sweet potatoes were small, so it was safe to eat them before the curry arrived! Although the shrimp curry is famous here, I went for the vegetable curry without any extra spiciness. For curry lovers, even the spicy level 3 might be suitable. The medium spiciness was more like a normal level of spiciness, but it gradually kicked in afterwards! The vegetable curry included mini tomatoes, shimeji mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, eggplant, broccoli, and bell peppers. It was refreshing and tasty. The generous portion of delicious fukujinzuke (pickles) in a large pot was reassuring! Delicious meal!! It's tasty! Just as expected! Very satisfying!! As I walked down the stairs, I could still feel the refreshing aftertaste of the curry.

The direction from Jimbocho Station to Ochanomizu Station is easier to follow. There may be a bit of a queue but you'll get seated quickly♪ If you're a student at Meiji University, you've probably been here before. Although the name of the restaurant is Ethiopia, they serve Indian curry. It's delicious.

Recently, colorful and vibrant spiced curry dishes have been trending, but this curry reminded me of how it used to be in the beginning. I ordered the Vegetable Curry with a level 5 spiciness. It was just right for me as I prefer spicy dishes. Despite being called Vegetable Curry, it doesn't have chunky vegetables but instead contains enoki mushrooms, regular mushrooms, tomatoes, and other vegetables that are kept in their original shapes. Additionally, you can add potatoes on the side, which you can either mix into the curry or eat separately. The salt provided on the table is also finely textured, showing attention to detail.

- Beef Curry Mild (Level 0) for 920 yen - Extra Rice for 50 yen I visited this restaurant for the first time based on a friend's recommendation. The curry here ranges from Level 0 (mild) to Level 70 (extremely spicy), and even at Level 0, there is still some spice. Since I'm not a fan of very spicy food, I went for the Level 0 option. After placing my order, it took about 10-20 minutes for the curry to arrive, which felt like quite a long wait. I ordered extra rice, but when the curry arrived, I was surprised by the portion size – it was about 1.5 times more than I had expected. As for the curry itself, it was different from Indian curry, more on the watery side. It wasn't as thin as soup curry, but had a texture similar to onion soup with finely chopped vegetables. Despite opting for Level 0 spiciness, it still had some heat to it, as expected from a Level 0 that's actually more like Level 1. Those who dislike spicy food might find it a bit challenging. One distinctive feature was the generous amount of black pepper, either coarsely ground or whole peppercorns, which stood out in the curry. The chunks of meat (2-3 large pieces) were amazing – tender, juicy, and easily fell apart with chopsticks. Personally, the flavor wasn't exactly to my liking, hence the slightly lower rating. However, it's a unique taste that you might not find elsewhere, so it's worth trying at least once.

Located near Jimbocho Station in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, this curry restaurant has been selected as one of the top 100 curry shops. Despite being a curry restaurant, it is named after Ethiopia because their coffee was highly praised. The restaurant exudes a sense of being a longstanding famous establishment, yet it doesn't come across as pretentious. It is divided into two floors, with a separate entrance for each. If dining alone, the first floor is recommended, while the second floor is better for groups. I ordered the Beef and Vegetable Curry for 1,290 yen along with a chai. The meal started with potatoes, which were delicious when seasoned with the condiments on the table. The curry had a substantial amount of rice, made from Japanese rice, and had a light consistency. The dish was filled with typical ingredients like eggplant, shiitake mushrooms, tomatoes, and even enoki mushrooms for a unique touch. The beef was tender and well-cooked, showcasing the expertise of this long-established restaurant. Visiting was definitely worth it.

- Set a date for the annual visit to Spice Curry and tried the limited edition Ebi Mame Curry with lobster broth. The aroma of the shrimp was irresistible! The dish had a good amount of vegetables and was extremely delicious. - I usually prefer level 5 spiciness, but I found myself sweating a bit while eating.

I visited for the stamp rally of the Kanda Curry Grand Prix. It's been two years since I last visited, and I was surprised that the prices haven't increased despite the high cost of living here. I usually order chicken curry, but this time I tried the beef curry (Indian style) for a change. The curry itself was just as spicy as the chicken one, with large chunks of tender beef and plenty of beans. The portion of rice was generous, and you could help yourself to as much fukujinzuke (pickles) as you liked. All this for under 1000 yen is amazing. As always, the curry was spicy and delicious. While chicken curry is popular here, I would also recommend trying the beef curry. The only downside is that it took a while for the curry to be served (30 minutes this time), and the staff were as cold as ever. However, the cheap and tasty curry more than makes up for it. Thanks for the meal!

Visited Curry Top 100 restaurants in 2022, 2020, 2019. Arrived on Wednesday at 12:10. The queue was separated by floors - 1st floor had 3 people and 2nd floor had 4 people, but I chose the 2nd floor for shade. I thought the customers would leave as I entered the restaurant, but no one was leaving. The 1st floor queue was moving faster, possibly because it had counter seats. I made a mistake! Five people left at once at 12:22, so maybe the 2nd floor with table seats had slower turnover due to customers chatting. When the two people in front of me and a solo customer finished ordering, I was asked how many people in my group. I replied one, and they offered to share a table, to which I agreed. Entered the restaurant at 12:25. Purchased a vegetable curry ticket from the ticket machine for 970 yen (probably cash only). When I handed over the ticket, I was asked about the spice level. I saw a sign for medium spice so I chose level 1. Later, another customer asked the staff directly and was told spice levels range from 0-70 with 0 being medium, 3 being spicy, and the recommended level from the restaurant being 5 - that customer ordered level 5. Water and potatoes were provided at the table. There was a slanted divider in the middle of the table, so sharing was not an issue. The curry arrived in about 5 minutes, with lots of vegetables as expected for the higher price compared to meat curry. It was indeed spicy! If level 1 was like this, level 5 would be too hot for me. The rice portion was surprisingly large, equivalent to a medium size when measured separately. Finished eating by 12:50, and the seating rate was about 60% - the curry was delicious, so I'm thinking of coming back for the meat curry next time with a slightly different timing and maybe trying level 2 for the spice.

When it comes to Kanda-Jimbocho, it is known as the holy land of curry, and I used to frequent this area a lot when I was a student. Among all the curry restaurants here, my favorite is this one. I usually order vegetable curry, but this time I decided to choose the beef curry (¥920). At first, I was served a potato dish as a starter, and before I knew it, the curry dish was placed in front of me. The curry was filled with chunks of beef, providing a satisfying meal. Personally, I thought a little less rice would have been better, but I still found the dish very satisfying as always.

Beef curry / ¥920 - You can choose the spiciness for free, but since the weather is hot, I went with level 3 spiciness. First, they bring complimentary potatoes as a service. Refills are free. I refrained from eating them so I could have them with the curry. They take their time to cook it carefully, so there may be a slight wait, but it's also something to look forward to. Finally, the beef curry arrives. It looks dry and spicy at first glance. I try a spoonful of just the curry sauce. It has a slight bitterness at first, followed by the spiciness, but it's not overpowering. They serve a generous portion of rice by default. The beef is tender and the beans are fluffy. The potatoes are also fluffy and delicious. The serving is very generous. The potatoes, in particular, are very tasty. As I reach the middle, the spices suddenly kick in and I start sweating. Even without increasing the spiciness, it makes me sweat enough. Next time, I might stick with level 3 spiciness, as it seems just right.
