Tomorrow is my wife's birthday, but I couldn't resist buying a cake a day early. I saw a Mont Blanc special on the morning alarm TV, so I had to buy it. The key points are chestnuts with Shibukawa and a tart base with a brandy aroma.

Seasonal fruit cakes are lined up, with large pieces that catch the eye. *Muscat Tart ¥896-*Italian Mont Blanc ¥696-Mont Blanc, you can feel the autumn. It's still hot out, but for a personal treat, the price is a bit high... a luxurious cake.

On a certain holiday morning in August, I visited my parents' house and stopped by a sweets shop called Foundry in Shinagawa Station while transferring trains. I chose a dessert called "Honwakōtō no Purin Sando" which is a sponge cake filled with custard made from sugar cane from Okinawa. The sponge cake was elastic and slightly sticky, making it a bit challenging to cut with a fork. The top was sprinkled with what seemed to be powdered sugar, giving it a natural sweetness. The custard inside had a subtle sweetness from the Honwakōtō sugar, rather than a strong egg flavor. It was a light and enjoyable dessert that didn't feel too heavy. Though the portion was small, it was perfect for sharing among three people.

After work, I had a transfer at Shinagawa Station, so I decided to stop by "Ecute Shinagawa" inside the station. I found a very colorful patisserie with eye-catching fruits. There were many customers, and there were poles for queue management in front of the store. Although there was no line when I saw it, customers were coming in one after another. I decided to try this place called "Foundry". "Foundry" is a brand developed by Plesire Co., Ltd., a long-established confectionery manufacturer founded in 1907. They focus on the theme of "the best fruits", selecting the most seasonal fruits and ingredients nationwide, and pursuing a taste in pastries that surpasses the fruits themselves. The stars of today's showcase were "Apple Mango", "Crown Melon", and "Cherries (Sato Nishiki)". Since I like mangoes, I chose the "Apple Mango Verrine" without hesitation. When I got home, I will enjoy it with a cup of coffee. "Apple Mango" is a type of mango with red skin, known for its egg-shaped form, tropical and rich sweetness, and rich aroma compared to other mangoes. And "Verrine" refers to pudding. The "Apple Mango Verrine" is divided into three layers, with whipped cream at the bottom, pudding in the middle, more whipped cream on top, and six slices of cut apple mango used luxuriously. The Verrine contains mango, passion fruit, and coconut, with a fruity aroma more than meets the eye. In contrast, the whipped cream is moderate in sweetness and richness. However, the star is definitely the apple mango, with its freshness and strong sweetness truly embodying the essence of seasonal fruits. The Verrine and whipped cream further enhance its deliciousness. It feels like the "taste surpassing the fruit itself" has been achieved. It was a masterpiece full of the charm of seasonal fruits. The bill came to 864 yen. Thank you for the meal!

Halfway through the Shinkansen journey, taking advantage of the moment when my older child fell asleep, I quickly opened the cake box. The ice pack's durability is about two hours, so I swiftly opened the cake box to confront the sleeping "cherry tart" that I had acquired at Shinagawa Station, a store-exclusive "Yamagata Prefecture Sato Nishiki Tart". The price and specifications were impressive, with the freshness of the cherries from Yamagata, the lovely shape, and the delicious cream making it a truly outstanding product. I later found out that the manufacturer was "Patisserie" from the familiar "Aichi" region, which was a bit anticlimactic. However, the fact that the item was a store-exclusive product was at least some consolation. And so, the fulfilling Tokyo trip came to an end. It feels somewhat nostalgic to think that a page of lifelong memories has been etched. I hope to continue accumulating experiences that I can be truly grateful for in the future. ● Tabelog rating 3.22 (122 reviews) (as of June 2023, 108th review)

When you come to Shinagawa Ekimae for shopping, you definitely want to buy the cakes from Foundry. Especially now, it's the season for my favorite strawberry cake. Foundry is a patisserie specializing in cakes and pastries. The main store is in Karuizawa, and they also have outlets in department stores in Kanto and Kansai. Foundry's cakes are made using cream from Akkeshi dairy farms. They partner with contract farmers nationwide to harvest the best fruits at their peak season and make cakes. Each season, cakes with strawberries, peaches, melons, muscat grapes, chestnuts, and more are displayed in the showcase. You can always feel the changing seasons through the colorful cakes and variety of fruits. This time, I bought three types of cakes: three popular strawberry shortcakes, one strawberry tart, and one chocolate tart. Fukuoka-grown Amaou strawberries and Akkeshi dairy farm's shortcake: ¥810 (tax included) - A shortcake made with large and red Amaou strawberries, berry sauce, and Akkeshi dairy farm cream. The fine and soft sponge, mild cream, and strawberry syrup and berry sauce accents make it exquisite. Fukuoka-grown large Amaou strawberry tart (with condensed milk sauce): ¥810 (tax included) - A tart made with large and red Amaou strawberries, served with condensed milk sauce on the side. The tart has custard cream, so adding condensed milk sauce enhances the flavor even more. Chocolate tart with Criollo cocoa and Miyazaki-grown Hyuganatsu: ¥723 (tax included) - A tart made with mild and gentle Criollo cocoa chocolate mousse, layered with Miyazaki-grown Hyuganatsu. Hyuganatsu has a unique citrus-like acidity, mild sweetness, and flavorful taste, similar to grapefruit. There were also other options like chocolate cake with Criollo cocoa and domestic strawberries shortcake: ¥788 (tax included) and cherry and Criollo cocoa chocolate cake: ¥680 (tax included). You can also purchase whole cakes for anniversaries. Foundry's cakes, which maximize the deliciousness of seasonal fruits, are stylish and luxurious sweets. Thank you for the meal.

The reason is that there is pudding there. One correct answer is delicious even without being sandwiched. Of course, it's also delicious when sandwiched. Both answers are correct. The taste is of high quality in either case. And the fact that it is reasonably priced at 1,000 yen compared to other stores is a supporting factor. It's delicious. Coffee (McDonald's) is a must.

I bought lunch and dessert at a cake shop inside Shinagawa Station to eat on the Shinkansen train. I love Mont Blanc cakes and wanted to try all the different kinds available. I ended up getting a Mont Blanc cake with chestnuts from Foundry to take out. I also wanted to try other chestnut cakes like chestnut tart. I sat on the right side of the train facing forward from Shinagawa Station to Nagoya Station and saw Mount Fuji. It was a great view to enjoy while eating Mont Blanc cake. The cake was delicious, with cream, custard, sponge, and plenty of chestnut cream. It was my favorite kind of Mont Blanc cake. It was so tasty and made me feel happy. Even though I had a buffet dinner waiting for me in Toba, I couldn't resist trying a chestnut daifuku I bought from another shop. I ate too much, but I was happy. Eating delicious food is the best feeling. Despite having various sources of enjoyment, I realized that eating delicious food truly makes me the happiest.

I went to this shop recommended by a company person who loves sweets (from Tokyo). The shop is located beyond the ticket gates at the station, in a place called Eco Cute. I got lost due to a map app glitch, but when I called, the staff kindly came to pick me up nearby. I arrived after 5 pm, and the Mont Blanc tart was sold out, so I bought a regular Mont Blanc and a Shine Muscat tart. Both seemed to be seasonal (probably), and I was surprised that each cake cost over 700 yen. However, maybe it's normal around here, and considering the size, the cost performance might not be bad. I like desserts with a mild sweetness, and both were very delicious, making me want to go back again. Also, the Shine Muscat tart had a jelly-filled syringe stuck in it, but personally, I think it's better not to use it. Apparently, they have strawberry ones for December.

I visited around 16:00 and ordered a new chestnut Mont Blanc for 735 yen. I transferred at Shinagawa, and while wandering around EKICUTE, I spotted a delicious-looking Mont Blanc. Since there was no wait, I decided to go for it. There are different types of chestnuts used in the Mont Blanc, and I was drawn to the "new chestnut" one. Since there was no seating, I got it to go. Now, it's time for dessert after dinner. The cake is quite large. When I cut into it, I found layers of Mont Blanc cream on top: rich chestnut flavor! Whipped cream: melts in your mouth! There are crushed chestnuts in it. Maybe custard cream: tastes good. The sponge cake is like this. The Mont Blanc cream is really good. The chestnut flavor comes through clearly. I would love to try it again.

Shinagawa Station's Foundry is known for their luxurious cakes made with generous amounts of seasonal fruits. I highly recommend trying it at least once, although it is a bit pricey. The cakes and tarts displayed in the store are called "Ichibanka Jitsu," which means they use two types of the most delicious seasonal fruits at that time. On this day in mid-October, they used chestnuts and Shine Muscat grapes. I purchased a small Shine Muscat whole cake for a celebration, which was about 12cm in diameter and cost ¥2480. It had about 10 pieces of Shine Muscat on top and 2 pieces sandwiched in the middle. When I tasted it, the cake was not overly sweet, allowing the fruits to shine. The fruits were not heavily coated, so I could enjoy the natural sweetness of the Shine Muscat. I wondered what was in the whipped cream, but it was creamy, light, and delicious. However, sharing it among 3 people was not enough. The buying process involves lining up on the left side of the counter, ordering and paying at the counter, then moving to the right side to pick up your order. Depending on the timing, there may be long lines on Friday evenings or weekend afternoons, making it difficult to see the products at the counter before buying. The main store is apparently located in Karuizawa, so I would like to visit there next. If you decide to buy, I highly recommend getting a cake made with seasonal fruits. It's best to go early as they may sell out quickly.

Located inside Ecute Shinagawa within JR Shinagawa Station ticket gates. Finally tried the "Free-range Egg Custard Sandwich" for 972 yen. The custard had a rich egg flavor and was delicious! The fluffy sponge cake-like sponge was also tasty. The combination of custard, whipped cream, and sponge cake was excellent, making it a cake that makes you want to eat it again.

On my way home from work, I had a little wait for the train, so I decided to buy three peach desserts since we are a family of three. I purchased peach shortcake, black tea and peach tart, and chunky peach dessert. There was also melon available, but I wasn't interested in it, so I went for all peach desserts.

Even in May, they have mangoes? It does feel like the early summer weather of the past decade. I can't skip the shortcake because I love cream. I was also interested in the tart, but I decided to try the verrine. Both were delicious as expected. The portion size and satisfaction were worth the price. I really like this restaurant after all.

At Foundry located inside Shinagawa Station, I always see delicious looking fruit sweets lined up, but I had only ever bought baked goods before. This time, I decided to try a fruit sweet for the first time. The special of the day was something like "ichigo kasetsu," but I chose the verrine with setoka without hesitation. It consists of a generous amount of setoka intertwined with a transparent jelly containing honey, and at the bottom, there is setoka jelly. The setoka is juicy and quite delicious!

The rich chocolate base with a slightly firm texture topped with custard, mandarin oranges, and mandarin orange sauce. The combination of chocolate and mandarin is exquisite. The cakes here are very delicious. The menu changes every two months, so I end up buying them regularly. The mango and muscat cakes were also delicious.

After lunch with my mother, we discovered a shiny cake at Ecute's Foundry. Since we had enjoyed delicious food ourselves, we decided to get some treats for the kids as well. We spotted a strawberry tart that was shining from the showcase from a distance, and we were immediately drawn to it. My second daughter loves chocolate tarts, so we also got one of those. We ended up buying two large Fukuoka-grown Amaou strawberry tarts and two Miyazaki-grown Hyuganatsu citrus tarts. As the total exceeded two thousand yen, we received a chestnut sablé tart as a gift. When my second daughter returned home, she was torn between the strawberry and chocolate tarts. She eventually decided to wait for her older sister to come home before making a choice. When my eldest daughter arrived, she chose the Amaou strawberry tart because of the large strawberries and her love for condensed milk. My second daughter was indecisive, contemplating between the Hyuganatsu citrus and chocolate tarts. I suggested that I would eat the Hyuganatsu one, and she could have the Amaou one with condensed milk on top. She finally settled on the chocolate tart. Both girls thoroughly enjoyed their tarts, with my second daughter praising the chocolate layers and crispy tart base, while my eldest daughter was delighted with the large and delicious Amaou strawberries. They shared some with me, and we all had a great time enjoying the treats. It was a luxurious experience to savor the large Amaou strawberries, and it brought smiles to everyone's faces. Foundry, I think we might have tried their cakes at Tsukiji in the past. Looking it up on Tabelog, I found that we had visited the Foundry at Ginza Mitsukoshi when my eldest daughter was six and my second daughter was three. We had Mont Blanc for me and soft peach and pear cakes for the kids. The Mont Blanc was incredibly delicious, but I can't remember when exactly it was. It's nice to look back at these memories and recall the times when the kids were younger. Today was a delightful day starting with a delicious lunch in Shinagawa, followed by the Foundry's tart as a souvenir. I had a great time with my mother, and it was a wonderful day. I visited the Western confectionery shop "FOUNDRY Ecute Shinagawa Store" located inside the JR Shinagawa Station ticket gate "ecute Shinagawa" in the early evening in mid-January. The showcase was filled with delicious cakes, from regular items to seasonal limited editions. I purchased the "Kaori & Amaou W Shortcake" (648 yen) and the "'Raised Free-range Egg' Custard Pudding" (394 yen) on that day. When I got home, I immediately enjoyed them. The "Kaori & Amaou W Shortcake" uses popular strawberries "Kaori" and "Amaou," which stands for "red, round, big, delicious." This shortcake is made with Akkeshi Dairy Farm cream. The fluffy texture of the cream and the fragrant strawberries were a perfect combination, making it a very sweet and delicious cake. The "'Raised Free-range Egg' Custard Pudding" had a caramel sauce inserted in the center, resembling a soy sauce container, which was quite charming. I drizzled the caramel sauce evenly over the pudding. The caramel sauce had a bitter taste, giving it an adult-like flavor. The custard pudding had a firm texture, and the aroma of the eggs was delightful. It was a pudding that lived up to its name with the egg in its title. Thank you for the meal.

Platto, today's takeout was a stroll around Shinagawa Station. Enter through the central ticket gate of JR Shinagawa Station, walk a little, turn right, and continue straight for a while until you reach "Ecute Shinagawa" where there is a water fountain plaza. Inside, you will find the shop "Foundry Ecute Shinagawa" on your right. I arrived at Shinagawa Station at noon on a weekday and entered Ecute Shinagawa. There were no other customers in the shop. I first checked the showcase to see the lineup of products. The showcase included: - Italian chestnut sablé tart (4 pieces) for 1,296 yen - Red apple sablé tart (4 pieces) for 1,296 yen - Sablé tart assortment (Italian chestnut, red apple) (6 pieces for 1,944 yen, 8 pieces for 2,592 yen) - Thick-cut apple pie (6 pieces) for 972 yen I chose the "thick-cut apple pie (6 pieces)" as I was craving for it and purchased it from the female shop assistant. When I got home, I opened the box of "thick-cut apple pie (6 pieces)." Each piece was individually wrapped in a clear thin plastic case, giving it a luxurious feel. I unwrapped one and took out the "thick-cut apple pie." As the name suggests, it had a thick pastry with a sweet aroma and a hint of cinnamon. I took a bite and enjoyed the combination of domestic apples and maple-flavored cream baked into the pie. It had a good texture, moistness, and a perfect cinnamon flavor. The apples had just the right amount of acidity, creating a balanced taste of sweetness, flavor, and texture. Today, I quickly enjoyed the "thick-cut apple pie." It was delicious. Thank you.
