There are few non-smoking seats in this restaurant, making it unhealthy. The atmosphere and taste are good, so it's a shame. With the decreasing number of smokers, is it okay to promote unhealthy practices? The milk tea had a good aftertaste and came with crackers. The meat pie was easy to eat with accompanying sides.

I visited around 5 o'clock in the evening. I was seated right away and my order was promptly served. This cafe is known for its music, but if you sit near the speakers, the music can be loud, making it more of a cafe to enjoy jazz. They also serve alcohol and check IDs, so it seems like you need to be of legal age to enter. The gelato in the photo was delicious and I personally really liked it. I would like to visit again when I go to Shinjuku Station. There were people smoking inside, so it might be unpleasant for those who don't like the smell of cigarettes.

Alcohol costs around 1,000 yen per glass. The atmosphere is the best part - jazz music playing, creating a surreal feeling despite being in Shinjuku. About half of the customers smoke, and many seem to come here specifically for that. They also serve light snacks. Located next to Shinjuku Piccadilly, making it perfect for waiting before or reflecting after a movie.

I visited the restaurant for the first time with a friend during lunchtime! The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, with fewer customers coming in and out compared to the evening. The Doug Sandwich was around ¥500 and very filling and delicious. Great value for money. I wonder why it's cheaper than the mixed nuts (¥650). The nuts were plentiful though (even though I couldn't finish them). We also ordered a meat pie, tomato juice, Irish coffee, and my friend had whiskey on the rocks. I also bought a postcard. *The toilet was really smelly, but I guess it's understandable since it's an old underground place.

I had lunch today at "DUG". It is an old-fashioned coffee shop located on the basement floor of a building in Shinjuku (photos 1, 2). I arrived around 2 pm. The restaurant was quite busy with customers, each one relaxing in their own way. It was my first visit to this famous coffee shop, and it turned out to be a smoking-permitted establishment. I ordered a "Blend Coffee (¥700)" and a "Dug Sandwich (¥480)". The coffee arrived after about 5 minutes, followed by the sandwich in another 3 minutes (photo 3). The coffee was indeed delicious. It was clear that it was made by professionals using specialized equipment visible behind the counter. The sandwich was a simple one with lettuce, cheese, ham, and cucumber, but the bread was crispy. I felt that the crispiness added value to it. I paid with PayPay, and the total came to ¥980, possibly due to a set discount. Apart from the smoke, I recommend this place (smokers will love it). That's all.

This time, I tried Macallan on the rocks. The place was busy, mostly with people in their 20s and 30s, which makes me hopeful for the continued success of this shop. The noise inside the shop is absorbed by the brick walls and mixed with jazz music, creating a cozy atmosphere. It's the best! ✨

It was an old and atmospheric jazz bar. The seating was only in the smoking section, and it seemed like you could drink alcohol from lunchtime. I visited during lunchtime, and they had sandwiches available, but this time I tried the rum milk tea and meat pie that caught my eye. It was a short visit, but I would like to come back and relax next time.

While strolling around Shinjuku, I stumbled upon a jazz bar with a great atmosphere. Despite some hesitation, I ventured down the stairs and was greeted by an authentic jazz cafe bar. The place had a rare smoking allowance and was filled with photos, records, and magazines of famous jazz artists. I didn't stay long on this day, but I would love to visit again when I have more time. It was a wonderful little shop that jazz lovers would adore.

Tonight, I have plans with the girls for a New Year's party. We might go to DUG for Ardbeg Double Rock, but I think I'll stick to coffee to sober up. Jazz is great! #jazzcafedug #jazzcafe #ardbeg #coffee

I have always been interested in jazz cafes, and I have always wanted to visit the well-established DUG cafe. I heard that DUG cafe has also implemented smoking restrictions in line with the recent trend of smoke-free environments, so I decided to visit early in the day. It is located a short walk from Shinjuku Station, with the entrance to the cafe on a main street. Going down the stairs under the sign, you will find a charming old-fashioned cafe. As you enter, you can sense a faint smell of tobacco in the air. The front area is designated as non-smoking, while the back is for smoking. Since there are no partitions, I chose the non-smoking area furthest away. I enjoyed a discounted coffee, which seemed to be refillable, but the cup was generously filled so one cup was enough for me. There was a large speaker near my table, playing jazz music softly in the background. I spent my time leisurely reading a book while sipping on my coffee. The customers were mostly elderly men, but I also noticed a few young women enjoying cake while listening to the music. In this day and age, it's difficult to listen to music at home with a loud volume, so the experience of listening to jazz music in a cafe was truly special.

This is my second visit! I arrived at the second place around 20:30 and stayed for about an hour. The cozy atmosphere was as good as ever, and the staff were friendly. I ordered hot wine, cinnamon sugar toast, and chestnut pound cake. The food was quite affordable, so I ended up ordering quite a bit. My friend had coffee and pound cake, and the total bill came to a little over 3,000 yen. The smoking area was not completely separated, so the smell of cigarettes was a bit strong. It was fine when I came here before, so I guess it's just luck. I will visit again if I have the chance!

The Gâteau au Chocolat here was exquisite! Not too sweet, with a nice bitter taste, it was delicious. The atmosphere was very stylish, even though I went during the day. However, depending on the seating, the music was a bit too loud and noisy.

This is a jazz cafe opened in 1967 along Yasukuni Street. It's said that even Haruki Murakami and Yukio Mishima used to visit, so it must be a famous place. The logo on the sign was designed by Makoto Wada. People probably come here to "dig" for records. The interior of the cafe is underground, with a brick staircase creating a nice atmosphere. A blend coffee costs 700 yen, a pound cake costs 300 yen, so a total of 800 yen (200 yen off soft drinks before 2 pm). If you listen closely, you can hear jazz music playing, while enjoying coffee. Jazz and coffee, along with the ambiance of the cafe, really go well together. Drinking coffee with friends at a chain cafe is nice, but having coffee while listening to music and reflecting on your inner self is also great. If you're looking for a relaxed time, this place is a must-visit. Thank you for the treat!

Taste: ★☆☆☆☆ Atmosphere: ★★★☆☆ Cost performance: ★☆☆☆☆ A rare jazz café where smoking is allowed. During weekdays in the daytime, coffee and refills are cheap, making it a good cost performance. However, the recommended menu item, the meat pie, seems to be bought from the Mister Donut next door. Can't trust the food.

Let's relax a bit at "Doug" in Shinjuku. Located in a small building next to the movie theater building on the basement floor. When you open the door facing the street, you are greeted with a steep staircase leading to the shop. As you descend each step, the jazz music gets louder and the surroundings become darker. Jazz music, coffee, alcohol, and snacks. I like places that can be used as both a cafe and a bar. Both me and Tanaka-kun don't smoke, but we enjoy places where smoking seems to fit the atmosphere. We usually visit such places during quiet times and leave when it gets crowded and smoky. Today, the atmosphere was quiet and the air was clean. I ordered my favorite Assam milk tea and a chocolate brownie. The brick walls, floors, and counter, sturdy wooden chairs, and the jazz music filling every corner. I used to drink whiskey here often, so I was contemplating what to drink today while looking at the alcohol menu. I remember enjoying whiskey with chocolate, so I often had chocolate brownies. I would listen to the jazz music, savor the nuts and brownie in my mouth, take a sip of whiskey, and relax. Sometimes I would close my eyes and let the music flow through me, then take another bite and a sip. Today's BGM was Quincy Jones. I loved the brass sound, so I'm sure I would have liked this too. I leisurely sipped my tea, which was made by simmering milk in a pot and brewing Assam tea leaves. It was sweet, bitter, aromatic, and hot. I savored it slowly, took a bite of the chocolate brownie, which was rich, sweet, and bitter. It melted with the chocolate aroma, creating a smooth texture in my mouth. The whipped cream added a creamy taste and texture to the experience. I remembered that day when we laughed about how stylish it was served in a heat-resistant glass container.

I wanted to relax at a jazz cafe so I visited for the first time. The underground atmosphere was dim and nice. The music was playing loudly, which was enjoyable, but maybe because it was Sunday afternoon, there were many customers chatting loudly, which was not great. The coffee was brewed with a coffee maker, so the taste was average. It's rare these days, but smoking is allowed inside, which may be tough for non-smokers.

After a long time, I had a small gathering with a friend I've known for about 45 years. We had about an hour to spare before our scheduled time, so we took a coffee break with a cup of coffee. The restaurant had the familiar sound of the JBL "LE8T" speakers playing quietly in the background.

At Iidabashi, after having Lu Rou Fan and an additional Omu-rice curry, my stomach was full and satisfied. I headed towards here, Shinjuku. Oh, these stairs have a nice atmosphere. As I descended underground, I found myself already inside the restaurant. I arrived at 1:00 PM. "Please choose any seat you like," the staff said as they brought me the menu. I was already full, so I ordered an iced coffee. The dimly lit interior with warm lighting had a charming atmosphere. The owner is a photographer, and large photos of jazz giants adorned the walls, adding to the ambiance. I had heard it was a jazz cafe, but it was quite lively. The customers were a mix of different people - some were enjoying a daytime drink, others were chatting, and a couple was discussing Sabouru in Jinbocho. Perhaps they are fans of traditional coffee shops. The iced coffee arrived in 4 minutes, brewed cold but just the right strength. It was perfect for sipping slowly. As John Coltrane took over from Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald sang a lullaby, I settled the bill. The service was efficient but dry. Maybe if I become a regular, I could enjoy it more. I had heard it was a smoking-permitted establishment, but I didn't see any ashtrays or people smoking around me. It's unclear if it's non-smoking, smoking area, or smoking-restricted. Well, I wonder if I can manage to eat a little more. To be continued.

As I was walking in Shinjuku, I came across a jazz spot called DUG! It was great to see that it was still open. When I entered the shop, there were a few groups inside. I ordered an Ebisu draft beer, beef jerky, and a meat pie. The jazz music playing from the speakers was as good as ever. It really resonated with my heart. I hope they continue to operate without being defeated by the coronavirus. I will definitely visit again!
