Visited during daytime on a holiday in October 2022. As I was exploring Machida after a long time, I came across this restaurant that caught my attention. After some research, I headed towards the place located in a deep, hidden shopping street. I arrived 10 minutes before opening and there were already 10 people waiting in line. I got inside after about 50 minutes. I ordered the following: ▶ Rich Katsu Curry 1,500 yen As per the reviews, the curry had a thin, soupy texture like soup curry. But to my surprise, after one bite, I was amazed by the rich flavor and spices! It had a Japanese curry vibe with a refreshing level of spiciness and hints of sweetness. The crispy katsu made with high-quality pork was delicious, with a firm and succulent texture. Even though it was katsu curry, the curry itself had chunks of meat, which was a pleasant surprise! The dish was packed with a variety of vegetables, making me feel like I had a well-balanced meal. The pickles seemed to be homemade as they were replenished frequently! The curry had a much more impactful and tastier experience than expected! I feel like I might get hooked on this curry...! I read reviews about the fast turnover, but it actually took some time, which I later found out was because the owner had just undergone surgery for tenosynovitis, as indicated by a sign in the restaurant. It's understandable and I hope they don't push themselves too hard... Amidst all this, thank you for serving such a delicious curry! Thank you for the feast! By the way, this shopping street seems to be a high-level food zone where both steamed buns (xiaolongbao) and ramen have long queues...!

I often come to Machida on weekends, and finally visited Asano, a curry restaurant that has been on my mind for a while. Some comments mentioned that the location of the restaurant was hard to find, but I found it easily with a line of customers in a side street. I visited the restaurant just before it opened at night and luckily was able to enter without waiting. Inside the restaurant, there were 6 counter seats, and the friendly manager quickly took our order. I ordered the recommended Katsu Curry (1,500 yen). As a starter, they served pickles (cucumbers, radish). It took about 10 minutes for the katsu to be served. The curry had a shabu-shabu style with a flavorful spice, and the vegetables were cut in large pieces like homemade curry. The pork belly was tender and delicious. The katsu was thin but large, about 1.5 times the size of a regular katsu curry. It would be best to order extra rice with an empty stomach to balance the meal. On my way out, there was already a line of locals, couples, and others, totaling almost 10 people.

Visited at 1:00 pm. There was availability and we were seated right away at the counter with 6 seats. Ordered the chicken curry for 1,000 yen. As soon as we sat down, we were provided with water, a spoon wrapped in a paper napkin, and pickles. The curry was on the watery side but the ingredients had been simmered slowly, creating a spicy flavor. It was delicious, but a bit on the pricey side.

Curry rice is a dish that varies depending on personal preference, so it's not like soup curry, but the thin curry sauce with well-matched meat and vegetables makes it a top-notch "katsu" curry without needing much else. If I ever go back to Machida City in Kanagawa Prefecture, I would like to try the pork curry or chicken curry.

Traditional flavors passed down from previous generations. Has become more crowded since appearing on TV. Weekdays are the best time to visit. ⚠ Be mindful of the limited space in the back alley, make sure to line up close to the store to avoid blocking the way. Highly rated restaurant with a rating of 3.78! Located in a slightly hard-to-find place with an entrance in a back alley! Went around 1 pm on Saturday and had to wait for about 10 groups (around 30 minutes wait??) Inside the restaurant, there were about 5 counter seats and it seemed like a husband and wife team were in charge of cooking and serving! The sight of the two of them cooking together happily was really nice! I thought the curry paired well with the cutlet! The cutlet was also thin and delicious!

Today was my first visit to this restaurant. I had tried to go twice for lunch before, but both times there was a long line and I couldn't wait due to my schedule, so this time I came after work at 6pm. When I peeked inside the restaurant, there were two available seats so I entered immediately. Since I had tonkatsu the day before, I decided to have the chicken curry this time. Alongside the rice, there were shredded cabbage, parsley, and a watery curry sauce (medium spicy) with tenderly simmered chicken thigh, potatoes, carrots, and green beans. There were also cucumber pickles and daikon pickles on small plates. The curry had a complex spiced flavor and was surprisingly spicy, but the deliciousness lingered even after. The cabbage and pickles were a nice break between bites, and I couldn't stop eating. It was incredibly delicious. Thank you for the meal.

It came with pickles. The pork cutlet was crispy with a good texture, and the curry was watery but spicy and flavorful, delicious! The restaurant is located in a narrow alley, so it might be a bit uncomfortable in hot weather. It was really delicious! I will definitely go again!

I ordered the "Rich Pork Cutlet Curry," which was prepared after I placed my order, resulting in an additional 10-minute wait. During this time, I enjoyed some pickles, building up anticipation for the curry. When the dish finally arrived, the curry had a soup-like consistency, similar to soup curry. The curry sauce contained pork, boiled potatoes, carrots, and green beans. The pork cutlet was incredibly tender and packed with the savory flavor of high-quality meat. It was delicious whether eaten on its own, dipped in the curry, or with some sauce. During lunchtime, there is always a line, but on Sunday around 12 o'clock, there was a wait of about 30 minutes before we could enter with five people in line. I ordered the Egg Curry with less rice. The curry has a blend of various spices, giving it a strong punch of flavors. It was thin and soupy, similar to soup curry, making it feel like I was eating soup curry.

Today, my mother, younger brother, and I came to a curry restaurant near Machida Station called Asano, which is known for its rich curry. I ordered the rich katsu curry and watched as it was fried. The katsu curry was filled with vegetables and truly lived up to its name of being rich. I noticed the portion sizes were large, so I requested less rice. The curry was smooth and the katsu had a crispy coating, making it a fantastic combination. The curry not only had vegetables but also pork. The owner of the shop was also wonderful. I had plans to have lunch and drinks with a friend in Machida, so I decided to stop by Asano-san around 1 PM. The restaurant had about 6 seats, and when I arrived, it was full with 3 people waiting. After waiting for about 15 minutes, I was at the front of the line and ordered my meal. I chose the pork cutlet curry. Once seated, I was served water and pickles. In less than 5 minutes, the pork cutlet curry arrived. The curry was soup-based and slightly spicy with a rich flavor. It was incredibly delicious! However, the highlight was the pork cutlet, which was surprisingly flavorful. This place might be known for its pork cutlet curry!

This is a shop I have always wanted to visit in Nakamise Shopping Street. Their rich Katsu Curry (¥1500) is my favorite, with a thin and watery curry that is sweet and spicy. The cutlet is crispy and the meat is delicious! They seem to use high-quality pork. I was prepared to wait in line, but when I went around 12 pm on Thursday, there was no line. I peeked inside and there was one empty seat, so I gathered my courage and went in. The shop has only six counter seats, but the person next to me offered to move their chair for me, and the owner gradually filled up the seats. Moreover, the turnover seemed fast because as I was eating, everyone finished and left, leaving me alone. I guess I came in at the right moment, so if you time it right, you might be able to get in without waiting!

On August 27, 2023 (Sunday): Rich Katsu Curry (1500 yen) This restaurant is currently the most popular restaurant in Machida Station area on Tabelog rankings as of August 27, 2023 (3.78). The location of the restaurant is about 500m southeast from Odakyu Machida Station, and about 450m east from JR Yokohama Line Machida Station, in a corner of Machida Nakamise Ishokugai district. It is not on the main pathway of the dining district where Kohyo Sen Manju Yoko is located at the south entrance corner, but rather on a narrower path parallel to it. I visited around 5:00 PM on a Sunday, which is the start of the evening business hours. The temperature was finally starting to drop below 30 degrees. Just over 2 minutes into my visit, there was already one previous customer, but no subsequent customers. The interior of the restaurant is very small, with only a kitchen and a counter with 6 seats. There are two staff members, a male owner and a female staff. I was told to sit at any available seat, so I chose the farthest seat at the back. I promptly ordered the most popular dish, the "Rich Katsu Curry". The owner immediately started preparing the tonkatsu made with high-quality pork loin for the previous customer and me. I was served with water, pickles, and a spoon. The wall in the back of the restaurant was decorated with autographed cards from famous visitors and photos from TV interviews. The only seasoning available on the counter was Worcestershire sauce. It took about 7 minutes from ordering to being served. The "Rich Katsu Curry" was served on a white plate, with rice and a curry sauce that resembled soup curry with a smooth texture generously poured on top. The ingredients included diced pork meat, 5 pieces of potatoes, carrots, and green beans each, chopped cabbage, and parsley lined up next to the rice. In between the curry sauce and rice, there were 9 crispy pieces of freshly deep-fried high-quality pork loin tonkatsu. I tasted the tonkatsu dipped in curry sauce, which was hot and crunchy, very delicious. Then I tried the soup curry-like curry sauce, which was of medium spiciness if not specified otherwise. It had a variety of spices, and a pleasant level of spiciness. The mild spiciness lingered in a refreshing way even after finishing the meal. According to the description at the store, "Our curry takes about 10 hours to fry a large amount of onions for roux, 10 hours to make a bouillon soup, and an additional 4-5 days of refining and resting until completion." I opted for a normal serving of rice, but a small size is 100 yen off, a large size is 100 yen extra, and an extra serving of curry sauce is 200 yen. I enjoyed mixing the curry with rice and the mentioned ingredients, occasionally having pickles with a toothpick, and soon finished my meal. I paid over the counter and left the restaurant. Other menu options included Rich Chicken Curry, Rich Pork Curry, Rich Egg Curry, homemade pickled radish, soft drinks, and alcohol.

We visited the restaurant around 1 pm on a regular day with 2 people. We were able to get in without waiting. We ordered the Pork Cutlet Curry for 1500 yen and the Egg Curry (Small size) for 950 yen. At first, I thought it might not be spicy, but as I ate, I started to feel the spices. The curry has a light texture but rich flavor, with well-cooked meat and vegetables. The cutlet was crispy with a good amount of fat. The only downside is that the restaurant has only 6 seats and is hard to find, but the curry was really delicious.

I lined up around 13:30. There were about 3 groups ahead of me, but since it was close to the end of lunchtime, I was able to get in pretty quickly. I was torn between the chicken curry and the most popular katsu curry, but I ended up choosing the katsu curry. There are 6 counter seats, and I could feel the aroma of the spices, which made me excited. It had a sweet fragrance, maybe cloves? It contained potatoes, carrots, and green beans. It wasn't like soup curry, but more on the watery side. The katsu was thin and crispy. The curry was definitely the main attraction, with a good aroma of spices and I finished it in no time. It seemed like they could make it spicy if requested. Thank you for the meal. There were two women dining alone as well. I'm thinking of trying the chicken curry next time.

I was looking for a place to have lunch near Machida Station and found this place with the highest rating on Tabelog. When I arrived around 11:15, there were already 6 people waiting! Since there were only 6 seats available, I thought it was going to be tough, but luckily a group of two women gave up waiting, so I was able to get in on the first round. I had the luxurious katsu curry (1,500 yen). It was good, but something felt missing. As someone who likes rich and distinctive flavors like Go Go Curry, Sango Reef, and Indian curry, I think maybe it lacked a punch. As I was leaving, the person who seemed to be the owner thanked me, which warmed my heart.

It's a small restaurant with only 6-7 seats at the counter, so we were able to enter without waiting. [Parking] None. ■ Rich Katsu Curry 1500 yen. The curry has a runny consistency almost like soup curry. It's not very complex but has a strong spiciness, starting sweet and ending with a spicy kick. The katsu was freshly fried and crispy, and the meat was tender and delicious. Overall, despite some negative reviews, I found it quite tasty. It reminded me of the East India Curry Company near Fudomae Station. However, 1500 yen is a bit pricey.
