When I was wandering around Ginza before, I noticed a shop with a long line that caught my attention. The shop is located a bit off the main road, so it could be easily overlooked if there isn't a line. This time, I visited around 1 pm on a Sunday. There were two groups of 3 people waiting, but we were able to get in after about 20 minutes. As soon as you enter the shop, there are stairs leading up to a ticket machine. You first purchase your meal ticket there. When there is a wait, the staff will come to collect the tickets shortly after purchase. Thanks to this process, the food was served in about 10 minutes from seating. Each order is carefully made, but it was impressive to see how such diligent efforts and innovations lead to smooth food service. The main dish, the Oyakodon, had a creamy egg topping with a yolk on top. The delicious chicken pieces seemed to be happily drowning in the sea of eggs. The chicken was firm and juicy, leaving no room for complaints. The rice was slightly firm, which paired perfectly with the creamy eggs and yolk. It was perfectly seasoned. I think it's worth trying at least once.

<9.25-10.21 Small solo exhibition at Vivienne> On 9/19, returning from Takachiho, I made it just in time at 9:00 PM to Marukatsu. After getting off the Asakusa Line, I first headed to Hanayama Udon (hoping for no line at this time...), but ended up having to wait in line, so I opted for the usual oyakodon. Thank you for accommodating us right before closing time. As soon as I entered, the closed sign was put up outside the shop. It's a shop I used to frequent a lot when I first moved here. Back then, I didn't know anything about Bird House, and I would feel excited going to this oyakodon shop down a narrow alley. While casually reminiscing about that, I ordered the usual oyakodon. I waited at the counter seat for solo customers. The last dish of the day was made efficiently. The tender finish was as always, with the firm texture of the meat from Bird House. It was a bit salty, so I had been avoiding it, but it was perfect for the pleasant exhaustion at the end of the journey. Incorporating moments in Yakushima and Takachiho into the usual operating week, thanks to JAL. I will casually visit a place where I need to get up and move again. Thank you for the meal. I have updated to iOS 17 and am enjoying the new features of the camera and photos. The camera now has added horizontal detection, making it even more powerful. For "pretty" decent photos, the smartphone is the only choice. In the Photos app, I find it convenient that you can now register stickers in addition to the cropping feature adopted in iOS 16. Photos app → search for keywords for the image you want to convey → crop the relevant part of the corresponding photo → register as a sticker → send via LINE or other apps to improve communication. Where should I go tomorrow? <Small solo exhibition at bar Yuunagi until 9/23>

It was simply delicious. The chicken used was Nagoya Cochin, which had a wonderful texture. It's different from regular broiled chicken. The egg had an extra egg yolk in the middle, making it luxurious. The chicken soup also had a rich and flavorful taste. They provide condiments on the table like pickled ginger, shichimi (seven spice), and sansho pepper. The long lines and the small space are unavoidable, especially in Ginza. The menu only offers oyakodon, which is straightforward. It felt like a model example of a restaurant in Ginza that efficiently maximizes profits.

I lined up about 15 minutes before the store opened at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and since I was the first in line, I was able to enter the store smoothly. However, the inside is small, so I think it's better to aim for right after opening. The opening time is also quite early. The parent and child bowl had a chewy texture and the meat was flavorful. It was a soy sauce-based dish. There were also Sansho pepper and shichimi spices for flavor variation. Personally, I preferred the aroma and flavor of the shichimi spice. The side dish of chicken broth soup had a strong dashi flavor. The finely chopped pickled ginger was all-you-can-eat and I was personally happy about that, and I liked the saltiness.

On a regular weekday lunch, this popular restaurant always has a long line. I managed to avoid the line by visiting on a weekday evening (7:30 pm) and was lucky to get in without waiting. The menu offers four options: "Special Premium Oyakodon" (1,680 yen), "Special Premium Salt Oyakodon (Pepper Flavor)" (1,680 yen), "Sakurahime Chicken Oyakodon" (1,320 yen), and "Sakurahime Chicken Oyakodon" (1,320 yen). Today, I ordered the "Special Premium Oyakodon" with extra rice (+100 yen). The Nagoya Cochin chicken had a perfect balance of tenderness and chewy texture. I would like to try the pepper-flavored "Salt Oyakodon" next time.

I visited the restaurant at 6:30 pm on a weekday. There were 4 customers ahead of me, but I was able to enter without waiting. The menu had a choice between premium or regular chicken and egg bowl, or salted chicken and egg bowl. As it was my first time, I chose the premium option and the salted chicken and egg bowl for a unique taste. The owner was a young and sharp-looking chef with a pleasant greeting. It took about 3 minutes from ordering to the dish being served. The half-cooked eggs were just right, and the coarse ground pepper added a nice aroma, making the meal enjoyable. I wished there was a different seasoning option at this point, but I decided to finish the meal with pickled vegetables. The chicken soup was also delicious, but it felt a bit overshadowed by the pepper. I plan to try the regular option next time. Since it's a counter-only restaurant, it's best to eat quickly and leave promptly. Thank you for the meal!

I visited the restaurant around 12:00 on Monday. Since it was a weekday, I was able to enter the restaurant immediately. The interior of the restaurant is quite small. There are two types and four varieties of oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl) depending on the quality of the chicken. I chose the Sakura Hime Chicken Oyakodon. The egg was soft and the dashi (broth) was well-flavored, making it delicious. The chicken broth soup that came with it was also good. There are also condiments like sansho pepper and shichimi (seven spice) on the table, so you can enjoy changing the flavor.

The complimentary side dishes were a nice touch. The interior of the restaurant was quite small and the stairs were steep, but the taste of the parent and child bowl was delicious, albeit a bit light. There seem to be special dishes available, but I believe the most important thing is the regular flavor. I would like to try the salt flavor as well.

I visited the restaurant alone on a regular day. There was a sign saying that there are days when there are long queues. When I arrived, I was the only one there, but others started coming in one after another. It seems like they only accept cash payments. It looked like the owner was running the place alone and it seemed tough. The eggs were creamy and delicious. But it's a bit pricey. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I last visited Marukatsu! The taste is consistently delicious! I thought it would be crowded during the Obon holiday, but luckily it was not busy today! The sweetness and texture of the chicken, the richness of the egg, the dashi... everything was perfect! Thank you for always serving delicious oyakodon. For those who come to Tokyo, please make sure to visit this place.

After leaving the beauty salon, I had an early dinner around 6 pm and was able to get in without waiting. The restaurant is small with only counter seats. I ordered the Salted Chicken and Egg Bowl with Shinshu Chicken for ¥1320 (comes with chicken soup). The broth has soaked all the way to the bottom, making it delicious. When you eat it as is, the saltiness is a bit strong, but when you break the yolk, it becomes milder. The portion of rice is generous, making it a perfect balance. Personally, I prefer the saltiness to be clear like this without being too bland. The accompanying soup wasn't really to my liking, but overall, I was satisfied! They have a variety of condiments on the table, and having pickled vegetables is a nice touch. Next time, I want to try the regular Chicken and Egg Bowl.

In early August, just before noon, I was in Ginza for work and decided to have lunch at a specialized oyakodon restaurant called "O-katsu". It had been a while since I last visited. During lunchtime, there can sometimes be a long line, but on this day, there were only two people waiting on the narrow staircase. I waited for a bit and then purchased a ticket from the machine. Last time, I had the Oyakodon with Sakura Hime chicken, so this time I went for the Salt Oyakodon with Sakura Hime chicken (1320 yen). After waiting for about 10 minutes, I was seated and waited another 10 minutes for my order to arrive. The Salt Oyakodon with Sakura Hime chicken was served. The salt added a refreshing touch to the oyakodon, though it may have been a bit strong. When I broke the orange-colored egg yolk, the saltiness mellowed out and a rich flavor emerged. The chicken was flavorful and had a nice chewy texture. The sweet and crunchy onions added a great presence to the dish. The pickled ginger on the table also paired well with the dish. Towards the end, I sprinkled a bit of shichimi pepper or sansho pepper for a slight flavor change, which brought out a different umami. It was a very delicious oyakodon. Personally, I slightly prefer the regular oyakodon I had last time, but both are delicious in their own way. I will definitely come back again. Thank you for the meal.

On a scorching hot Sunday around 12:30, I looked at the stairs and saw only two groups waiting, so I decided to line up. Luckily, I got in after about 10 minutes. It took another 10 minutes to get my meal after handing in my ticket. I finished eating in 10 minutes. The turnover is fast. By the time I left, there were three groups waiting.

I discovered this restaurant around 6:00 PM on Saturday by chance and decided to visit. Upon climbing the stairs, I found a ticket machine at the end. I ordered the Sakura Hime Chicken Oyakodon, while my partner ordered the premium Oyakodon. The interior of the restaurant consisted of all counter seats with only two staff members. It was quiet and cozy inside. The Sakura Hime Chicken Oyakodon arrived, and the egg was rich and creamy with a gentle flavor. I tried a bite of the premium Oyakodon, which looked almost the same but had a completely different taste. I was surprised! The premium Oyakodon had a distinct chicken flavor. Both were delicious, but personally, I preferred the Sakura Hime Chicken Oyakodon. If you want to savor the taste of the egg, go for the "Sakura Hime Chicken Oyakodon." If you want to fully enjoy the chicken flavor, go for the "premium Oyakodon." That's how I felt.

I visited on a weekend night around 7pm and was able to get in without waiting in line. The restaurant had 9 seats and was full, but the turnover was quick so even if there is a line, you can get in soon. I had the Salted Chicken and Egg Rice Bowl, which was perfect for this season. It was the first time I had such a refreshing chicken and egg rice bowl. The broth was light with a hint of chicken flavor, and the saltiness complemented the sweetness of the sugar well. The chicken was tender with plenty of umami, and the onions added a sweet touch with a good crunch. The addition of sansho pepper and salt enhanced the aftertaste. The yolk added richness halfway through, and the pickles and spices on the table allowed for various flavor combinations. Overall, the saltiness was just right throughout the meal, balancing the flavors nicely. It was a bit hard to find, but I discovered a great restaurant.

Marukatsu Ginza is located in a narrow alley in Ginza 4-chome, and during lunchtime, the line stretches all the way from the alley to Matsuya Street. I have visited more than 10 times during lunch hours, but I always had to give up because of the long queue. Today, I arrived right at 5:00 PM on a Sunday and there were only two customers ahead of me, so I was able to be seated immediately. The small staircase led me to a counter with about 10 seats, and it was understandable why there was always a line as it seemed to be a one-man operation. I purchased my meal from the ticket machine and ordered the recommended "Nagoya Cochin" which is the highest grade purebred "premium parent and child bowl" for 1680 yen, a popular choice among customers. Since there were two of us, we also ordered the lower-priced menu item "Sakurahime Chicken Parent and Child Bowl" for 1320 yen. Sakurahime chicken is said to contain over three times more vitamin E compared to regular chicken. Both bowls came with an option to add extra rice for 100 yen. Our food arrived in about 10 minutes along with chicken soup, which was light and could have used a bit more depth in flavor. The bowls were topped with a generous amount of egg yolk, giving them a visually striking appearance. The first thing I noticed was the sweet sauce, which is a distinctive feature of Tokyo's parent and child bowls rather than a strong broth flavor. Mixing the exquisite sauce with the egg yolk added richness and creaminess to the dish. I opted for extra rice, but I could have easily eaten even more as it complemented the flavors perfectly. In conclusion, both the Nagoya Cochin and Sakurahime chicken were delicious, with the unique texture and umami of Nagoya Cochin being a highlight, while the Sakurahime chicken was also very tasty. Since the lunch and dinner prices are the same, I recommend aiming for the 5:00 PM dinner start time to avoid the lunchtime queues (especially during summer when there is a risk of heatstroke).

I went after work! Located in the Yurakucho Station area, the surroundings were bustling, but the building of this shop was tucked away like a hidden gem, which made me very excited haha. I didn't know much about parent-child bowl specialty shops, so my expectations were sky-high, but it was very delicious. I will definitely come back!

A parent and child bowl specialty restaurant just a short walk from Ginza Station, called ○Katsu. I was drawn in by the visual of the photos and decided to visit on a Sunday, which resulted in a line forming. I arrived around 12 o'clock and waited for about an hour. I ordered the premium parent and child bowl without hesitation. The chicken was tender and there was plenty of it in every bite, it was amazing! The soup also had a rich chicken broth flavor and was delicious. [Menu items tried]: Premium parent and child bowl

A hidden gem of a parent and child rice bowl restaurant in Ginza. The entrance may be hard to find at first, as it is located towards the back. I climbed the stairs and purchased the Sakura Hime Tori parent and child rice bowl from the ticket machine. The restaurant has 8 counter seats, and there was only one staff member running the place. The dish looked very delicious. It tasted great too. The soup was decent. There were three rice cookers. The service was good, so I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

Although there were many reviews mentioning long lines, I was able to walk in with no wait on a weekday night close to closing time. However, they were already sold out when I entered. The special oyakodon was very delicious, but it didn't leave a lasting impression. As you get older, it becomes harder to find a meal that truly moves you.

A popular parent and child bowl specialty restaurant right near Ginza Station. The restaurant is located between buildings, a little bit off the main street. I visited around 7:30 pm on a weekday and there was a wait of about 3 people. After a short wait, I was seated. The restaurant has only 8 counter seats, and I sat at the counter towards the back.
On this day, I had the following menu item:
[Menu]
Special Parent and Child Bowl
Made with Inagaki Shamo Chicken, a purebred Nagoya Cochin, this parent and child bowl has a rich dashi flavor and a deep umami taste. The egg topping is very creamy, and an additional egg yolk on top makes it even more creamy. The seasoning was stronger than I expected, and it was a hearty meal. There are also yuzu pepper and shichimi provided for flavor variation. The soup that comes with it also has a gentle and flavorful dashi taste. It was delicious.
Since it's a place I can stop by after work, I would like to visit again when I find the right timing. Thank you for the meal! ✨
