There is a standing udon shop near Gotanda Station. They open early in the morning, so I went there for breakfast. I had visited their store in Shinbashi a while back, but this was my first time at their main branch. The shop has a simple layout with a U-shaped standing counter surrounding the kitchen, accommodating a limited number of customers. You purchase a meal ticket from the machine outside, and staff will bring your food to your seat without needing to hand over the ticket. They offer around 15 types of udon, both hot and cold, and I ordered the "Toriten Chikuwa Bukkake" (590 yen) listed at the top of the menu. The tempura was already fried, so the dish was served in less than 5 minutes after being seated. The dish had a striking appearance with a large chikuwa tempura on top. The udon noodles, which seemed to be Sanuki style, had a moderate firmness making it easy to eat. The udon itself was very delicious, and the tempura was of high quality and tasty. Especially the chikuwa tempura was different from what I had before, with a crispy texture that was quite addictive. At the price of 590 yen, the quality of the food felt very reasonable. If the staff were more friendly, it would enhance my experience even more, but overall, this place comes highly recommended for cheap and delicious udon.

I visited the restaurant before noon on a regular day. I purchased a ticket from the outside machine and entered. I ordered the Deluxe Oroshi Cold Bukkake for 880 yen. There were 4 other customers before me, and the staff was working alone. The interior of the restaurant was not very clean. The dish was served in about 3 minutes. The ingredients were tasty, and it seemed like they used good quality ingredients. The noodles were average, not very firm. Overall, I was satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

After eating a lot of horse cuisine, my stomach was full, but I couldn't resist the cheap and delicious chicken and fish cake bowl. We bought the recommended cold chicken and fish cake bowl tickets from the top of the ticket machine and visited with friends. Even though the place was busy with 5 people in line, we got inside in a few minutes and the food was served in just 1 minute. The standing-eating style place could fit about 12 people, and the taste was so good that we enjoyed it even with full stomachs. Next time, I want to try ordering it with an egg topping.

This is my first visit to this always popular place. It's getting dark early, around 6 pm. There was no line outside so I took the chance to buy a meal ticket and enter the small shop. However, there is space for people to pass behind, but it might be a bit difficult for big people. The staff seemed to somehow know our orders without looking at the meal tickets. The noodles were served in less than 2 minutes. The noodles had a good texture but personally, I prefer them a bit firmer. I assume they precook the noodles and chill them before serving, judging by how fast they were served. The broth was flavorful. The highlight was the large piece of tempura chicken, which was delicious. They warned us about it being hot when served, but it didn't seem freshly cooked, probably because they make a large batch in advance. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

I ended up going to "Grill Eph" after returning straight home from my outing, but to my surprise, it was closed. I wandered around Gotanda Station area and ended up here. I ordered the "Cold Chicken and Grilled Fish Cake" set. The chicken was delicious. As I felt the arrival of autumn, I thought to myself that it's already the end of the year with a play on words from the famous song by Fujifabric.

If you're in Gotanda and feeling hungry, this place is a good choice. I ordered the cold udon with mixed tempura (chicken and fish cake) for ¥590. The udon noodles were supposed to have a great texture, but they were a bit soft this time. The taste seems to vary lately. The chicken tempura had a slightly soggy batter. The fish cake tempura was crispy and juicy as usual. The atmosphere and service were average, but the staff did a good job of seating customers promptly. The narrow walkways make it a bit challenging to eat comfortably. The place was almost empty at 11:20 on a holiday, but it quickly filled up. There might be a wait during busy times. Despite the slight inconsistency in taste, the convenience makes it worth visiting again!

When you exit the west exit of Gotanda Station and turn left, you will see a udon shop's curtain at the back of the road. Cross the crosswalk all around and buy a ticket at the machine. It seems to be linked to the kitchen, so you don't need to show your meal ticket; the speed of serving is fast once you sit at the counter. The chicken tempura is soft and crispy, so delicious!

I had some business in Gotanda, so I tried the udon place "Udon Koshigai" for the first time. It was delicious, especially on such a hot day. The tempura included 3 pieces of crispy and tasty tempura for only 520 yen, which was great! If the cost-performance is this good, they should consider adding some chikuwa on top as well, haha. There were also female customers there! If you go with multiple people, you will be seated one by one in the order you bought your meal tickets, so make sure to line up accordingly!

I ordered tempura udon (hot) and bought the food ticket before lining up outside the shop. It was peak time on a weekday night, but the waiting time wasn't too long probably because it was a stand-up style shop with good turnover. The tempura was fried crispy, especially the shrimp was juicy and delicious. The noodles had a good texture, and the soup had a strong umami flavor. The menu I ordered was 580 yen, and for the price, it was delicious with great value for money.

This time, I went to Oniyanma for breakfast. The timing was convenient as there was no line to get in easily, but I ended up witnessing the dark side of the Japanese food and beverage industry - making foreigners work alone. This is one of the factors contributing to the chronic labor shortage in the industry. I had the hot meat udon (690 yen) for breakfast. The noodles seemed to have been boiled a while ago, and the broth was warm, resulting in a disappointing texture. The inconsistency in quality at this restaurant is really frustrating. Some people claim that the main branch is different, but let me tell you, the main branch is just as inconsistent, if not worse. The broth lacks depth, especially when compared to Marukoh, but the flavor improves when mixed with the boiled beef and oil. Meat is truly amazing. I added plenty of shichimi spice, slurped it all up in a minute, and left the broth behind.

When it comes to udon, I always think of Oniyanma. I often go there for lunch or drinks after work. Today, I ordered a warm Niku Udon at the Gotanda main branch. It came out in just a few seconds (lol). I start by tasting the broth first. Then I add shichimi togarashi and tempura flakes to change the flavor. I really love the soft noodles in this dish. However, what truly impresses me is the skilled craftsmanship I witness right in front of me: One person handles customer service, cooks the udon, makes the tempura, cleans up, and washes dishes.

I chose Oniyanma for lunch in just 10 minutes! It was already 11 o'clock and I was feeling hungry while in between work, so I decided to grab something to eat. I was near Gotanda station, and I had to choose between having curry or trying Oniyanma after a long time. Oh, I remembered! I have poor circulation and only eat cold udon in the summer, so I decided to give it a try for the first time!! Quite dramatic but true haha. And so, Oniyanma it was. The Gotanda branch is very close to the station and also the main store, so it felt reassuring in a way, even though it was very small and cramped. I'm not good with ticket machines, so even though there was no one behind me in line, I still took my time to figure out which tempura to choose. In the end, I bought a ticket thinking, "Is this okay?" Cold Tempura Udon with grated radish and soy sauce. With a hint of doubt, I didn't have time to hesitate, so I went for it. Even though I was waiting outside alone, I entered the store and was scolded to wait outside. Oops, it was a standing udon shop which I'm not familiar with. And what arrived was a combination of shrimp tempura, chicken tempura, and sweet potato tempura. I was happy to see the sweet potato tempura, but how do I order my favorite fish cake tempura? I didn't have time, so I just ate as it was. Despite not liking salty food, I had to put soy sauce on the cold udon. It was a fail. However, it wasn't too salty so it was fine. Next time, I hope I can order the udon I really want. Thank you for the meal. It wasn't as cold and the noodles were not as firm as I expected. The sweet potato tempura was the most delicious. Oops. Next time, I'll have to redeem myself!

I visited the famous udon shop called Oniyanma for the first time in Tokyo. I purchased a meal ticket outside and entered the shop. The interior of the shop has an old-fashioned standing-eating style with a counter surrounding the central kitchen. The atmosphere of this long-established shop is distinct. I ordered the bukkake udon with tempura and chikuwa set. Having eaten a lot of Sanuki udon in Kagawa, Tokyo udon tastes a bit different. The bukkake udon here has a stronger dashi flavor as compared to Kagawa's version, leaning more towards kake udon. The noodles have a slightly weaker texture. Despite being different from Kagawa's udon, it was still quite delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I visited for the first time in a while in the morning. I ordered cold tori (chicken) tempura and chikuwa (fish cake) tempura with grated daikon radish. I hesitated between getting both chicken and chikuwa tempura, but ended up buying a meal ticket. The tempura tasted delicious, even in the morning. Of course, the grated daikon udon was also excellent. This udon restaurant is known for its consistently delicious food in Tokyo!

I visited this restaurant again after several years, and it was much tastier than before. The cleanliness of the interior is not great, so foodies might want to consider another place. I have been a regular here for years, so I am used to it and even find it comfortable, so I don't really mind. This time, I had beef udon with chikuwa tempura and the weekly special tempura, which I think was chicken harami tempura. The broth was lighter than it was years ago, and it was delicious. It wasn't too heavy.

After visiting a hospital in Shinagawa and looking for a place to eat on the way back, I came across Oniyanma-san's. It's located just a 1-minute walk from Gotanda Station and serves udon, known as one of the top 100 udon shops. You purchase a meal ticket and sit down to eat, and within about a minute, your udon is served. I ordered the cold tempura and chikuwa with grated daikon for 590 yen. The dish came with two chicken tempura and bamboo shoot tempura, topped with sudachi, grated daikon, and green onions. There is also unlimited ginger and tempura flakes available at the counter. The chicken tempura was well-seasoned and hot, and the large bamboo shoot tempura was delicious. I squeezed the sudachi on top of the udon and adjusted the flavor by adding soy sauce. The quality of the meal for this price is outstanding. Thank you for the delicious meal. I will definitely visit again.

After a long time, I stopped by a newly opened restaurant in Shinbashi before heading to the festival for the first time in 6 years. The udon noodles were prepared at incredible speed after entering the shop early. As I watched, the chicken tempura and hot vegetable tempura were served. The udon noodles seemed softer than before, but still delicious.
