In Tokyo...continuing the Tokyo expedition, at "Koya Karyo Akasaka," enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, and then checking into the hotel! It had been about 4 years since my last visit to this hotel, before the new corona virus. I remembered that some parts were renovated for the Tokyo Olympics two years ago. I didn't notice at the front desk, but the elevator wouldn't move without touching the room key. I see! Anyway, I took a break in the room. After that, I went to enjoy another winter limited edition treat, the "New Extra Super Amaou Strawberry Shortcake." I headed down to the front desk floor and entered "SATSUKI." I was seated at a table towards the back and looked at the menu! I ordered the "New Extra Super Amaou Strawberry Shortcake @3,520" and the "Double Espresso @1,300," which was what I was looking for. While waiting, I observed the restaurant. It was around 5:30 PM at the time, and there were few customers, perhaps because of the odd timing. Still, I could see a few people here and there eating cake...it's popular after all... After waiting for about 7 to 8 tables, the order arrived (pictured). It was the "Extra Super Ispahan Shortcake"...unfortunately, the "New Extra Super Amaou Strawberry Shortcake" that I ordered was sold out that day, so it was changed to the limited edition item of 20 servings. It cost ¥3,960. This was a collaboration of Pierre Herme's "Ispahan" and Patisserie SATSUKI's "Extra Shortcake." I was immediately overwhelmed by the appearance. It's hard to tell from the photo, but it was about three times the size of a regular shortcake. I took a picture and tried it...the raspberry had a strong acidity, and the juicy lychee. Of course, the sponge part was fluffy. The cream was very smooth and had a unique texture. A special treat, spot on! The double espresso that I ordered alongside was just the right amount for the large cake. Ah, it was delicious. Thank you.
