This was my second hot pot of the year, a Tom Yum Kung-style hot pot. The flavors didn't quite come together, so I would say this hot pot was a bit of a failure... We also had pho with it though. Tom Yum Kung is definitely something better enjoyed at a restaurant. We also had a green papaya salad, which turned out okay. For dessert, we had dried sweetened beans, thin rice crackers, and sweetened beans. The tea we had was hojicha that I bought a few days ago at Uogashi Meicha in Tsukiji. The plates were from Emile Henry, purchased at Kappabashi Dougu Street, and the teacups were mass-produced ones from Taiwan. I have been enjoying the "nyu" drink here for the past 5 years and haven't been able to try anything else. I'm planning to buy a new variety for the New Year, though.

In a small tea shop inside Tsukiji Market, next to Pierre Marcolini in Ginza, there is Uogashi Meicha. The Tsukiji main store is a stunning building. We had tea on the second floor. This time, we got a great deal with a matcha roll cake included! We compared several types of tea and felt completely relaxed. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I tried the sencha tea from Uogashi Meicha, which has its main store outside of Tsukiji Market. This particular sencha is a bestseller that has been around for 28 years. It initially had a hint of hojicha-like aroma, but then developed into a distinct sencha scent. The taste is easy to drink, lacking any strong richness or umami flavors. It's a tea that can be easily enjoyed, with a smooth drinking experience.

Uogashi Meicha has a shop inside the Tsukiji wholesale market, but the main store is located outside. The spacious interior has seating available. They offer a variety of interestingly named teas such as "Shan," "Unubore," and "Konnichiha." I purchased the "Unubore Gold" (50g for 1,080 yen), and was able to sample it before buying. The Gold had a refined, gentle flavor, while the Silver had a strong, impactful taste. On the second floor, they hold classes on matcha and tea brewing techniques. These classes are popular and require advance registration. Participants receive a teapot at the end for 2,000 yen. It sounds like a fun experience. In this shop, you can also purchase tea bowls and teapots on the second floor. Although the selection is limited, there are some lovely items that may tempt you. I found myself wanting to buy a small teapot and take the time to brew delicious tea and enjoy it elegantly.

In a crowded corner outside Tsukiji Market, there is a tea shop called Uogashi Meicha. While their green tea "Shan" is popular, I have always been a fan of their hojicha. I sometimes buy hojicha from other tea shops, but I always come back to this one. The aroma is great, and the soothing aftertaste is irresistible. I usually drink their "Haikara" blend, which is always my favorite. I can buy their tea online, but I had other errands to run so I headed to the outside market in Tsukiji. It was a Saturday, so it was already crowded early in the day. People were sampling teas in front of Uogashi Meicha, making it even more packed. The narrow shop, over 2 meters wide, had 4-5 busy staff members inside. I managed to catch a free staff member in the chaos and purchased 500g of "Haikara." After receiving my purchase and paying, I left the shop and was swept away by the crowd. Phew. Although there are quieter places like the Tsukiji inner market or the Ginza store, I chose to visit the main store this time. It was quite an experience. When I got home, I enjoyed the tea with some steamed buns. It tasted even better than my usual tea.

My husband's mother, who loves green tea, always used to receive this as her favorite. When I found it at Isetan Shinjuku, I was impressed by my mother's taste (her knack for finding delicious things). I have received it a few times at Tsukiji as well. During this Tsukiji tour, I passed by and tried a sample, but it was cheaper tea than what I usually receive, so I decided to get it. Here is what I got: - Shann 100g ¥1080 Since the one I usually receive had just run out, I decided to get this one. It has a good balance of mellowness and astringency, and I think it is perfect for everyday consumption considering the price. Unlike wine or sake, I believe the deliciousness of Japanese tea is proportional to the price. Looking at the receipt, it says "Uogashi Meicha" (Uogashi Famous Tea). However, the tea bag says "Uogashi Meicha," so I wish they would be consistent with the naming. Actually, I have not visited the Ginza store yet. I plan to visit soon and try the tea there.

On March 7, 2013, I visited the Tsujiri Ginza store several times, but this was my first time at the Tsukiji store. Unlike the sophisticated and calm atmosphere of the Ginza store, the Tsukiji store has a lively vibe being located on the market street. This time, I purchased a strong tea for brewing purposes and had a chat with the staff before making my purchase. I found out that they supply tea with added powder to famous sushi restaurants in Ginza. Unfortunately, the quantity was 400 grams which was more than I expected, so I had to pass this time. However, I would like to purchase it next time. The atmosphere is more casual and approachable than the Ginza store, and you can easily buy really delicious tea, so I highly recommend it.

My mother has a long-standing relationship with this tea that she learned about from the elderly lady next door. You can also purchase it at department stores. Whenever we go shopping at Tsukiji Market, we always have this tea. It's very comforting. The Ginza store is a must-visit as well. Here, we relax and unwind with delicious tea after exploring all around Tsukiji. We often share the ingredients we've collected with friends over a cup of tea. After over a decade of tea-drinking, everyone has their own preferences, but this place is a must-visit for us.

I was recommended this tea by my mother-in-law. She seems to only drink tea from here. I'm not someone who drinks green tea all year round, so I don't have any particular preferences, but it is definitely delicious. I visited for the first time when I went to have lunch at Tsukiji Market the other day. They had about 5 types of tea and 2 types of kyusu for sale. There were many older ladies there. My mother-in-law always buys the 1500 yen tea, but I have only ever tried the same one. They also let you taste delicious tea for free at the store. It tasted even better because it was cold outside! The kyusu was around 750 yen, so I think I'll buy it next time.

I visited a tea tasting event called "Chayukai" where you can enjoy various types of tea on four different floors. The event is held several times a year and offers tea and sweets that match the theme of the day for a reasonable price of 700 yen. It's a great opportunity to learn about the characteristics and brewing methods of different teas while comparing their tastes. I always look forward to it because you can really feel the difference in flavors between the teas. Today, I tried the camellia paste from San'ei-do in Matsue and had matcha. The matcha from Uogashi Meicha has a smooth taste and is very easy to drink. The one from Koyamaen in Uji has a bit of bitterness to it. The sweetness of the sweets and personal preferences may determine which tea you prefer. I also tried several types of sencha and tea snacks, including iburi-gakko, which was a comforting treat. Overall, it was a satisfying event as always. Thank you for the delicious meal.
