We finished lunch nearby and visited a popular bakery in the area. They specialize in delicious bread rolls and loaves that allow you to enjoy the ingredients themselves. They explained that the texture changes depending on the size of the bread. I learned a lot about bread even though I'm not very familiar with it. The bread was delicious both as it is and when toasted.

A bakery near Inari-cho Station that specializes in just plain and roll bread. They have a few different types of plain bread to choose from, making it a bit hard to decide. I ended up buying the default one-pound loaf of bread. It was fluffy, chewy, and satisfying to eat—a delicious plain bread.

I stayed at a hotel in front of the store, so I didn't make a reservation and came to buy bread for souvenirs at the opening. The store opens at 8 o'clock, but there are already a few people lining up! Inside the store, there were so many freshly baked bread lining up that they couldn't fit on the shelves. The smell of freshly baked bread spread all the way to the road, and it smelled so good. More than half of the people seemed to have made reservations. I asked for "Yamagata Half" for 620 yen and "1.5 kg" bread for 720 yen, and they quickly put them in a bag and I paid at the entrance of the store. I was relieved that I was able to buy the bread I wanted somehow. It's a souvenir of a heavy bread. When I got home, my son's wife said, "Pelican!" It's super famous, isn't it? As expected, my daughter-in-law, who worked in Tokyo, knew about it. It was worth buying and bringing home. Now, how does it taste? I had it for breakfast. The chewy bread itself is delicious, but it was the best when toasted and topped with plenty of Hokkaido butter.

Hello, I'm Gourmet Actor. Tonight, I came to visit Pelican, famous for its shokupan (Japanese bread loaf). The exterior of the shop is simple, with a red tent and only the Pelican logo. This shop requires reservations, or it's recommended to line up before opening to buy at the same time as everyone else. Making a reservation ensures you can get the items you want, as the menu for walk-ins is limited. Pelican sells two types of bread: shokupan (loaf bread) and roll bread. The prices range from 380 yen for a 1-pound loaf to 1,140 yen for a 3-pound loaf. In the morning, there are often long lines at this shop, a testament to the deliciousness of their bread. Despite the trend of high-end bread, Pelican's shokupan remains unmatched in the bread world. Their bread is perfect for making French toast or pairing with bacon and eggs. With various bread options available, Pelican's ability to stay at the top with just shokupan and roll bread is truly impressive. Shokupan has been a beloved breakfast menu item in Japan for a long time, so if you want to enjoy the best breakfast, be sure to try Pelican's shokupan!

I bought delicious bread as a souvenir in Asakusa last week. I got 2 loaves of white bread and 1 half-size loaf of mountain-shaped bread. When I toasted and tasted them, both were delicious, but I thought the mountain-shaped one tasted better. I wonder what's different? I'll study about it. Thank you for the delicious meal.

It's a popular bakery located about a 3-minute walk from Tawaramachi Station on the Ginza Line. The bread there has an elegant and delicious taste that never gets old, but it was a bit disappointing that they didn't cut it for easy eating.

On a Saturday in September, I called at 9:00 to check if they were sold out, and they had some left. I had heard about Pelican Pan from a TV show about 5 years ago and had always wanted to try it. This time, I happened to stay near the hotel, so I decided to go for their bread and rolls. On the way, I found Pelican Cafe with about 20 people waiting in line. I made a reservation and headed to Pelican Pan. Unfortunately, they only had bread available, so I bought a loaf for 500 yen. They say it's a bread you can eat every day without getting tired of it, so I'll bring it back as a souvenir.

Takeout, no reservation visit. Fortunately, there was no line, so I could buy without a reservation. I asked for small rolls and a hot dog, bought them for takeout, and brought them home. The soft and fluffy small rolls were cute. The hot dog was like a soft coppepan. I made an egg sandwich with eggs mixed with mayonnaise, and a ham sandwich with ham and lettuce. Both were delicious! The fluffy goodness of the bread was unbeatable. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

Visited the popular bakery Pelican and bought 3 loaves of sliced bread and some small rolls. The bread was not the fancy kind, but instead had a simple, old-fashioned taste. I like to toast it and spread cinnamon, butter, or jam generously. The small rolls were delicious with butter or jam, but even better with scrambled eggs or bacon sandwiched inside, bringing out the flavor of the roll. Sometimes they sell out early, so it's best to make a reservation if you want to make sure to get some.

Established in Showa 17 (1942). I visited this Pelican Cafe around noon. A grandmother in the neighborhood ordered 3 loaves of bread in front of me, saying "Everyone's waiting at home for this bread...haha" in high spirits as she packed them into an eco bag. Inside the store, 5 or 6 women were busy working. It was my turn, so I bought 1.5 loaves of shokupan (¥720) and 1 loaf (¥480) at the storefront. When I got home, I tried it. First, I sliced it and tried it plain... It was dense and had a firm texture, but not particularly sweet nor strongly buttery. Honestly, at this point, it wasn't as good as I had hoped. However...! When toasted and buttered, it transformed completely! The texture became slightly lighter than when plain, with a crispy crust and chewy interior that enhanced its fragrance and richness. I got carried away and tried various experiments. Yes... this bread doesn't stand out on its own, but it shines as a supporting player. It has enough density to provide satisfying texture even with just one slice of toast. It's fun to try different ways to enjoy it and find your favorite. Thank you for the meal.

Visited at 10:30 on August 31, 2023. "Pelican" in Taito, Tokyo has been selected as one of the top 100 bakeries in Japan. They specialize in various types of bread, with a focus on shokupan (Japanese bread loaf). Today, I purchased a loaf for ¥480. The popular shokupan had a rich and condensed flavor, perfect for eating as is or toasted. Thank you for the delicious treat.

Strolling around Asakusa to Asakusabashi, I stopped by Pelican Bakery where there was no line. It had been a few years since I last tried their bread... It was dense yet soft, sweet, and delicious. Whether toasted or plain, their bread is always tasty. I just love Pelican Bakery - a must-visit old-fashioned bakery with a lot of repeat purchase value. ♡

I went to Coffee Noir the other day and tried their Cinnamon Toast made with Pelican bread, which was delicious. I liked it so much that I decided to go buy some of their bread. It takes about 20 minutes by bike to get there. I arrived around 8 am and there was already a line of about 10 people. I bought 1.5 loaves of bread for 720 yen. They only sold bread in the morning, while rolls were available around noon. I was told that it's better to make a reservation for rolls. I had the Cinnamon Toast and Cheese Toast, and they were both delicious with a chewy and crispy crust. It was too early to find other shops open, but I saw Forbes along the way. I thought I should make reservations in advance next time and explore other shops to buy from. I am looking forward to going back when it gets cooler.

I stopped by after visiting Pelican Cafe. I made a reservation by phone in the morning for 1 loaf of bread and a medium roll, and went to pick them up in the evening. When I arrived, there was no one there so I passed by once. As I was purchasing, people started coming one after another and I could see how popular the shop was. The medium roll was a bread with a generous filling, not fluffy. It had a different texture from hard bread and I enjoyed it with egg and ham inside. Two of them were enough to feel full. The bread was small but when toasted, it smelled of wheat and was delicious. It quickly disappeared when made into cheese toast or French toast.

Located in Tahara-cho (Asakusa), this long-standing bakery focuses on selling only white bread and rolls with the motto "A taste that can be eaten every day without getting tired." By intentionally limiting the number of products, they continue to provide a consistent taste that doesn't change even as times evolve. - Location: 3 minutes walk from Tahara Station - Business hours: 8:00-17:00 - Regular holiday: Sundays and special holidays (summer, year-end, New Year's) - Crowdedness: Visited on a holiday afternoon. Waited in line for about 5 minutes. - Today, ordered [1 loaf] (¥480) + [medium roll] (¥580). The shop only sells white bread and rolls. There are also many shops in the Asakusa area that use bread from Pan no Pelican. The difference between the 1 loaf and 1.5 loaf is not just the size; the 1 loaf has a chewy texture, while the 1.5 loaf has a fluffy texture. First tried the medium roll. The buttery texture was solid, and even when eaten without anything added, you could still taste the sweetness of the wheat. It is recommended to consume the 1 loaf at room temperature as refrigerating it will make the outer surface hard. The inside was fluffy and it was an excellent white bread. The price was also very reasonable.

Shokupanman: "Chicchicchi. If you try my shokupan, you'll change your mind. Please try it as it is." Anpanman: "I'll have it with margarine... Oh, it's delicious!" Shokupanman: "See, I told you." Anpanman: "The crust is quite firm." Shokupanman: "Yeah. Nowadays, high-class shokupan has unnecessary ingredients to make it sweeter, but simple shokupan like this is the best." Shokupanman: "Today we also have roll bread!" Yum Ojisan: "Come to think of it, I've never tried Shokupanman's roll bread before." Watakosan: "Let's try it right away." Yum Ojisan: "Oh, just like the shokupan, it's quite firm." Watakosan: "But when you bake it in the oven, it becomes crispy and the aroma of wheat comes out." Yum Ojisan: "Yeah, delicious. It passes the test."
