The shop we visited this time is Ramenya Toy Box. It is a popular ramen shop known for its soup made only from chicken and water sourced from local chicken. Located near Minowa Bridge along the Nikko Highway, the place is easy to spot with a line curving L-shaped outside. We arrived around 12 o'clock and there were about 7-8 people waiting outside. The turnover rate seemed quite fast, so we were able to be seated sooner than expected. I ordered the Special Soy Sauce Ramen. While waiting, I could see the kitchen and the abundant chicken fat being scooped up, which got me excited. After a short wait, the ramen arrived. The soup had a beautiful shine from the chicken fat, with a lovely aroma of chicken broth. Now, let's dig in.
Review:
- Special Soy Sauce Ramen 1300 yen
The first sip of the soup was amazing! The chicken fat was delicious and rich in flavor. The soup had a concentrated chicken fragrance and umami taste, with a slightly sweet and smooth yet punchy flavor. The thin, slightly longer straight noodles perfectly complemented the soup, although mine was cooked to a neutral firmness. The large slices of chashu, both chicken and pork, were silky and tender. The wontons were like meatballs with thick and chewy skin. Everything was so good that I finished it in no time. Thank you for the meal.
Epilogue:
After being impressed by the soy sauce ramen during my last visit, I had it again this time and it was still incredibly delicious. They also offer salt and miso ramen, with at least one person at the counter ordering each. I was tempted to try them next time, maybe the salt ramen. Overall, it was a really delicious meal.

Today, I visited Toybox at Minowa, which is one of the top 100 ramen shops in Japan, for the first time. I tried their special roast soy sauce ramen for 1500 yen. I didn't know I had to buy a ticket first before lining up, but the staff informed me to do so. The shop has a counter where you can see the cooking happening right in front of you. The top-notch roast pork caught my eye immediately as it was being skillfully sliced. The moment I tasted it, it was truly delicious! The color combination of soy sauce and oil in the soup was exquisite, and the flavor was exceptional. The soup was clear and full of flavor, not overpowering, smooth, and aromatic. The noodles were slightly soft but had a unique chewy texture and flavor that I liked. The roast pork was outstandingly delicious, and I couldn't help but close my eyes to savor it. The bamboo shoots were crunchy like crunchy Chinese bamboo shoots. The seasoned egg was large and perfectly runny in the middle. The two wontons were also delicious with flavorful fillings. Overall, there was nothing to fault about this ramen shop. It was an exceptional experience at one of the top 100 ramen shops.

While sightseeing in Akihabara, I came across Toybox and decided to visit the famous shop. When I arrived around 1 PM, there was a line of about 15-20 people and I waited for about an hour. I ordered the special soy sauce ramen with roast pork. The presentation was beautiful, and the ramen had a refined taste with a hint of chicken soy sauce. I was hungry so I finished it quickly. The pork roast and pork belly slices were top-notch, and the wontons were delicious too. However, personally, I prefer a bit more flavor kick. The only downside was that the price was a bit high.

A super famous ramen shop in Minowa. There was always a line in front of the shop whenever I passed by while driving along the Nikko Highway. On this particular day, a weekday in September, I arrived 5 minutes before the opening at 11 am and was the 6th in line. By the opening time, there were around 10 people waiting. I was able to slip in for the first round, but they can only make up to 3 bowls of ramen at a time. After buying the ticket and sitting down, I was served in about 20 minutes. I ordered the Special Roast Soy Sauce Ramen (1,500 yen). The soup was chicken-based with plenty of chicken oil. The soy sauce aroma was just right, but surprisingly not very strong. The saltiness was mild and gentle. It didn't seem like they used MSG. However, personally, I think it could use some more umami. The noodles were medium-thin straight noodles with a slightly soft texture. Nowadays, many popular light ramen shops use this type of noodle. The toppings included roast pork, chicken dumplings, menma, seasoned egg, and chopped green onions. The roast pork was my favorite type, with the rich taste of both loin and belly pork coming through directly. It was a delicious meal!

I visited the restaurant on a regular Friday at 1:40 pm. There were 6 people ahead of me. Based on other reviews, it seemed like it wouldn't be crowded in the early afternoon, but it was a bit disappointing. I ended up waiting 20 minutes to get seated and another 25 minutes to get my food. I ordered the special roasted soy sauce ramen, Coedo beer, which cost 2000 yen. Unfortunately, they were out of rice, so I had to order the grilled rice instead. The taste was ok, just a typical soy sauce flavor. The noodles were thin and curly, similar to Tsukishima-style ramen. It turns out the owner used to work at Rock'n Roll One, so the resemblance makes sense. Even after I finished my meal around 2:20 pm, there were still 4 people waiting outside. The delay was caused by a clueless student couple taking their time to eat. It's fine to enjoy your meal, but lingering at the table for over 20 minutes after finishing is just rude. Just a side note.

First visit. I decided to visit the shop because it was a recommended place and I love whole chicken soup. I arrived at 11:30 on a Sunday afternoon. There were around 15 people waiting in line. The ramen was served at 12 o'clock. It was better than I expected. I ordered the special roast ramen. When it arrived, it was the ramen I had been craving so much that it almost made me cry. First, the soup. This chicken soup is the pinnacle of soy sauce ramen. The char siu was exceptional, with just the right amount of fat and cooked to my preferred rareness while still retaining its char siu flavor. The marinated egg was so delicious that I finished it in one bite. The broth was rich and flavorful. The excessive green onions were accentuated by the white spring onions. The only minor disappointment was the bamboo shoots. They were hard and lacked flavor. Personally, I prefer softer bamboo shoots. Overall, it was amazing! I would love to go back again!

Ramen Dangan Tokyo #3
This was my third visit to fulfill a friend's request, and this time I tried the salt flavor! The thin, wavy noodles were smooth and had a nice texture when slurped, with a good wheat flavor that paired perfectly with the soup. The richness of the chicken and slight hint of shellfish in the soup, along with the distinct outline of the salt, were excellent. The scent of sansho pepper and its refreshing, slightly spicy touch added a nice accent, complementing the soup perfectly. The tender pork chashu had a delicious pork flavor and a hint of sweetness from the fat, with a well-seasoned and flavorful taste. The large, moist pork shoulder slice was also delicious, and the bamboo shoots were slightly sweet and well-seasoned, making them tasty as well.
It was really delicious, thank you!

Soy sauce pork shoulder for 1500 yen. Comes with seasoned egg, 2 wontons, and 3 pieces of pork. And some green onions, I believe. The taste is typical Hayashida style, I think. They also added a yellow liquid that seems like truffle oil. The flavor is a reliable soy sauce taste. However, there are many similar flavors available now, so if there's a Hayashida-style ramen shop nearby, I think that would be enough. They also have miso and other options, so if you're looking for something unique, I recommend trying a flavor other than soy sauce.

I arrived 15 minutes early aiming to open at 11 AM on Friday. There were 5 people lined up, and I was debating while waiting for my turn at the ticket machine at 11 AM. TRY's soy sauce ramen is the champion, they also have an award-winning miso flavor, but I want to try the salt flavor too. Should I have two bowls in a row? What should I do? Just before entering, I made up my mind that since the soy sauce flavor is a winner, I will go for a clean victory with just the soy sauce! I ordered the standard special soy sauce ramen with char siu rice! Wow, the ramen was incredibly delicious! The memory system may not be available in the future, but I can eat it now. Should I try miso or salt next time? I pondered while waiting in line. It was a good thing I didn't have to eat continuously. It might be cool to have another bowl in this atmosphere, but it would have been tacky. Thanks for the meal, it was delicious!

This ramen that has mastered soy sauce is delicious, I can't find any other words to describe it. At 1100 yen, this is cheap. Some may say that ramen over 1000 yen is expensive, but I doubt you can get ramen of this level for under 1000 yen. I am willing to pay a higher price for delicious ramen to support the business and hope they can continue to prosper for a long time. I want to convey this message to ramen shops all over the country.

I visited a ramen shop in Minowa! This time, I went to "Ramen-ya Toy Box". I ordered the "Special Char Siu Soy Sauce Ramen" and the "Special Roast Pork Salt Ramen". Continuing from my previous post, here is my review of the Special Roast Pork Salt Ramen that I ordered.
While eagerly waiting, the dish arrived! Unlike the soy sauce ramen, this one had white leeks and kaiware radish. The base of the soup is chicken broth just like the soy sauce ramen, but this time with a special salt seasoning that had a hint of citrus fragrance which made the soup very easy to drink.
The straight noodles were a bit too soft for my liking, but the three types of char siu (regular, roast, and wonton) were all excellent. The regular char siu was tender with a nice balance of meat and fat, even a hint of sweetness. The roast pork had a firm texture and a good size for satisfying bites. As for the wonton, it was beyond expectations, almost like a shumai.
The seasoned egg also received a high rating, just like the soy sauce ramen. Overall, this salt ramen was also impressive and I will definitely visit high-rated shops in the future. The topping photos are similar to the soy sauce ramen so I will skip that. Thank you!
Rating:
- Special Roast Pork Salt Ramen: 7/10
- Nice reviews make us want to go to high-rated shops, but those with a focus on "lighter" tastes may not be in our wheelhouse. Nevertheless, we will continue to visit high-rated places.

I visited a ramen shop in Minowa! This time, I went to "Ramen-ya Toy Box". I ordered the "Special Bara Shoyu Ramen" and the "Special Roast Shio Ramen". This shop has won the 23rd Tokyo Ramen of the Year 2022 TRY Grand Prize, so it's definitely one of the best shops in Tokyo. The soup was rich with the umami of chicken bones and a slightly sharp soy sauce that tied the flavors together. The noodles were straight and cooked slightly soft, although I prefer them a bit harder. The chashu came in three types - bara, roast, and wanton. The bara had a great balance of meat and fat, with a hint of sweetness. The roast was firm and had a good size for a satisfying bite. The wanton was more like a shumai, truly impressive. The taste eggs were also excellent. Overall, the meal was delicious and satisfying. I recommend this top-ranking shop where you can avoid long queues and eat to your heart's content. Cheers!

I had soy sauce ramen at Toy Box near Minowa Station. They don't have evening hours much now, but they seem to offer pork back fat at night, so I would like to visit for that someday.
- Soup: They use Kappabashi Shamo, Hinai Jidori, and Sansui Jidori chicken with a blend of 10 types of soy sauce, creating a light and refreshing soup with a harmonious blend of chicken oil and soy sauce, with a subtle but elegant soy sauce flavor.
- Noodles: The smooth and slippery straight noodles have a chewy texture that pairs well with the soup.
- Toppings: The low-temperature-cooked roast pork made from Galician chestnut pork has a delicious ham-like fat, along with bamboo shoot tips and green onions. Another delicious meal today.

Today, I met up with my ramen-loving friend at this restaurant after a long time. This place is the top-ranked restaurant in Tokyo, winning the TRY Award for two consecutive years. When we arrived at 13:26, there were 10 people waiting outside the restaurant. We bought our tickets at the entrance - I got the "Special Roast Soy Sauce" and she got the "Ajitama Soy Sauce." After waiting outside for about 32 minutes, we were seated inside, and our ramen arrived in about 4 minutes. The clear soy sauce broth had yellow chicken oil and chopped green onions floating on top, with thin noodles topped with chashu, bamboo shoots, and more chopped green onions. The broth had a balanced flavor of fragrant soy sauce and clear umami from the simple chicken-only broth. The soy sauce base was sharp and aromatic, complementing the richness of the chicken oil. The noodles were firm with a distinctive wheat flavor, enhanced by the soy sauce and chicken oil. The chashu was tender and flavorful, with both lean and fatty cuts offering a rich taste. The wanton was filled with finely minced chicken meat, giving a juicy and flavorful bite. Overall, the ramen reflected the chef's dedication to preserving the traditional water-chicken style, though the flavor on this visit fell slightly short of perfection. Despite the time gap since my last visit, I look forward to coming back more frequently in the future. Thank you for the meal.

I waited in line for about 15 minutes before entering the restaurant. There was no guidance from the staff as the line moved forward. I purchased a meal ticket at the entrance and found a seat, but since there were empty seats, I wasn't sure if I was sitting in the right place. The owner or manager of the restaurant suddenly shouted loudly, "Can you please close the door?!" The atmosphere inside the restaurant was tense, with the owner glaring at customers who were talking. The taste of the ramen itself was bland with a soy sauce flavor, lacking depth in the broth. The noodles were lacking in texture and flavor. While it wasn't terrible, the overall experience was so unpleasant that I will not be returning.

Flavored boiled egg soy sauce ramen for 1250 yen. Successfully moved out of my apartment in Nagoya and hurried to my new place in Tokyo. But before that, let's explore Tokyo's ramen scene! First stop, the super popular Toy Box near the nearest station! Gotta check it out before anything else. Arrived at 13:15 with a 5-person wait. Lucky me! Most people waiting were foreigners. Could it be the Michelin Guide route? Waited for about 20 minutes. And then, the bowl arrived! First, sipped the soup... Oh my goodness... Tokyo is already surpassing Aichi's number one ramen shop just after arriving here. Slurped the noodles and felt like a chicken flying out of my mouth through my nose - what an illusion. The richness of the flavored egg, the taste of the chashu intensifies with each bite - everything was a winner. This is top-notch ramen, almost like perfection. Having such a delicious ramen shop so close to my new place is just amazing. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal.

Hello, I'm the Gourmet Actor. Tonight, I visited the famous restaurant Toi-Box in Minowa. Their soy sauce ramen is truly the best I've ever had. I could eat it every day without getting tired. The price is reasonable and it's no wonder it has been selected as a Bib Gourmand and one of the top 100 ramen shops. There is always a line, but if you time it right, you can get in within about 20 minutes. Be prepared for a wait! I had the 1250 yen soy sauce ramen with an extra egg, and I can't imagine a soy sauce ramen better than this. They are probably busy every day except on Mondays. Their location is easy to find, and their simple soy sauce ramen stands out among many ramen shops. They offer two types of chashu, so you can enjoy it until the very end. The seasoned egg topping is delicious as well. Whenever you crave soy sauce ramen, Toi-Box is highly recommended. Please give it a try!

Ramen Restaurant Toy Box (Minowa) I went looking for the classic shoyu ramen, so I walked from Taharamachi to Minowa. Arrived at 12:03 with 3 people waiting outside. I bought a ticket for the flavored egg shoyu ramen for 1,250 yen and a bottle of beer (ASD) for 550 yen. The ramen was served at 12:24, and the chicken oil was incredibly delicious. The shoyu flavor was tasty, and I really enjoyed the straight, thick noodles and crunchy menma. It was a delicious meal. I left at 12:34 and walked to Uguisudani Station.

"Ramen Yoko-Toy Box," a renowned ramen shop that has won the TRY Ramen Grand Prix two years in a row, offers evening service on an irregular basis as announced on their official X (formerly Twitter) account. Starting from late July, they have introduced a special evening menu with the following items: "Backfat Shoyu Ramen" for 900 yen, "Seasoned Egg Backfat Shoyu Ramen" for 1050 yen, "Chashu Backfat Shoyu Ramen" for 1100 yen, and "Backfat Oil Soba" for 1000 yen. On August 25th, they will start offering their first backfat-rich ramen dish, a creation unique to Toy Box.
The "Backfat Shoyu Ramen" is served in a traditional bowl filled with backfat on top. It comes with two slices of chashu, boiled bean sprouts, and green onions. The clear broth is thick and rich with the fragrant sweetness of backfat. Hidden at the bottom are minced garlic and black pepper, giving the broth a strong punch. The base is made from pork broth made with meat, and surprisingly, no artificial seasonings are used. The soup base is said to be the same as their daytime ramen, but the richness of the backfat changes the overall impression significantly. The noodles are slightly thicker straight noodles with a chewy texture. Despite having the same composition as their daytime noodles, cutting teeth differently to make them thicker has resulted in a noticeable change in texture. The pork used is different from the daytime chashu, offering a solid and satisfying bite. The daytime chashu is made with SPF pork, nearly doubling the cost. This backfat ramen is a complete departure from the gentle and elegant daytime ramen, fulfilling customers' desires to the fullest. The dish is a testament to the owner's love for backfat and attention to detail, making it worth checking the official X account for their evening service.

Last time I ordered miso flavored ramen, so this time I tried soy sauce ramen with seasoned egg. The chashu pork slices were impressive and beautiful. They had a satisfying chewiness and were full of flavor, making me want another slice. The noodles had a subtle wheat aroma and were delicious. The soup was rich in chicken flavor with a complex soy sauce taste providing a good balance. The chicken oil added another layer of flavor. The seasoned bamboo shoots were tender and tasty, making it a bit sad when I finished eating them.

I went to the ramen shop Toy Box in Minowa, which is currently open for night service two days a week, to try their shoyu ramen with plenty of pork fat. I ordered with a flavored boiled egg using the ticket machine. The soup has a punchy shoyu flavor and plenty of pork fat, creating a delicious contrast. The noodles are coated in the soup and pork fat, making them even more delicious. This type of ramen goes well with coarsely ground black pepper! The two slices of chashu are tender and full of flavor, and the flavored egg is also delicious. Thank you for the great meal. When they are serving this pork fat shoyu ramen, their regular menu is not available, but they have had days where they serve the regular menu, so please check the shop's X (formerly Twitter) account before visiting.
