This is a seafood izakaya in Ueno, famous for its affordable lunch buffet, the restaurant called "Numazu Port Kaisyo Ueno 1st Store". Located about a 3-minute walk from JR Okachimachi Station, near Ameyoko shopping street. In front of the restaurant, there is a sign advertising a 45-minute all-you-can-eat buffet for 1,200 yen, featuring dishes like chicken tempura, fried oysters, minced cutlets, horse mackerel tempura, rice, and miso soup. However, I remember the last time I visited, the buffet was all-you-can-eat sashimi. I revisited with a colleague around 1:30 pm on a weekday, after a year. There was no line outside. I purchased the buffet ticket for 1,200 yen at the ticket machine near the entrance and handed it to a female staff member. The restaurant was surprisingly small, with a buffet area in the front and seating for up to 60 people in the back. We were seated at a table with acrylic dividers and went to get our food right away. The buffet system allows you to choose your own dishes and put them on your plate. Last time, there was a variety of sashimi like tuna, marinated tuna, bonito tataki, manta ray, salmon, saury, saba, negitoro, mentaiko, shirasu, flavored scallops, and Chinese jellyfish. However, this time, the main dishes were fried items like chicken tempura, fried oysters, fried shrimp, and fried horse mackerel. Sashimi was limited to one small plate per person. It was disappointing to see a decrease in value for money. For my first plate, I got chicken tempura, marinated horse mackerel, saury, crab salad, pasta salad, and the one-person sashimi plate. I started with a light portion of rice, then moved on to the second plate with fried horse mackerel, fried oysters, and minced cutlets. I finished by pouring seafood curry over the extra rice. For dessert, I had fruit and nata de coco. There were not many vegetables, so I was happy that green onions were unlimited. Wasabi and ginger were also unlimited. The miso soup was made with instant miso paste and was not very flavorful. I wanted some oshinko, but there was only nata de coco for dessert. Overall, the taste was not bad, considering it is an izakaya. However, knowing the previous seafood buffet, I wish they had kept the same content even if the price had to increase. If the buffet remains the same as this, I probably won't revisit at 1,200 yen. Thank you for the meal. 🚶♂️
