On weekdays at 11:10, I went to Kiji Marunouchi and ordered the Buta-sujimodan (¥1,430) along with a rice and miso soup set (¥165). I arrived right after the opening time, so I was seated immediately. By around 11:20, the place was already full. If you want to go without waiting, it's best to go right at opening time. It's rare to not be able to get a seat right away at opening time. As usual, I ordered the Buta-sujimodan. I also ordered the rice and miso soup set. They asked me, "Modan-yaki is different from regular okonomiyaki, is that okay?" It may be a silly question for Kansai people, but I guess there are some who don't know in Tokyo. When you order the rice and miso soup set, it's almost certain that you are from Kansai, so I think it's an unnecessary question for customers ordering rice. When I was a child in Kansai, it was common to eat okonomiyaki with rice, but lately, I've been feeling guilty about consuming double carbs, so I've been avoiding it. In Kanto, there are hardly any okonomiyaki restaurants that offer rice sets, so I naturally have fewer opportunities to eat rice. Kiji Marunouchi has had rice available since opening time for lunch only, even though only Kansai people order it. I feel a sense of pride as a Kansai person and show my respect for that! So, despite clearly consuming too many carbs, I reflexively ordered the rice and miso soup. By the way, the miso soup is tonjiru (pork miso soup), and it's definitely worth the ¥165 (you can also order just the miso soup separately). As for the Buta-sujimodan, it was, of course, the best modan-yaki. It has a unique texture with the egg slightly runny and mixed with the soba. It goes well with rice, but my wife, who is not from Kansai, always looks at me coldly. I can also feel similar gazes from other customers, but I continue to eat the rice set without forgetting my Kansai pride. Also, I didn't pay much attention before, but the lunch menu is slightly cheaper. Since rice is only available during lunchtime, Kansai people should gather for lunchtime!
