Monja Kura, one of the most popular restaurants in the Tsukishima area, opened in 1996. There is always a line at the restaurant, regardless of whether other shops are empty or if there is an impact from COVID. It is always the most popular single store in the area. This is my recommended restaurant.
- Location: About 4 minutes from Tsukishima Station, on Nishi-Nakadori 3-chome.
- Time of entry: 8:00 PM
- Waiting time: About 20 minutes for the 5th group in line
- Duration of stay: Approximately 100 minutes
- Situation: Always full
- Number of visitors: With my wife
- Customer service: Very friendly. The staff will make Monja for you. However, they operate with the minimum number of staff, so there may be a bit of a wait. But it's worth it.
- Reservations: Only available on weekdays (for groups of four or more)
- Exterior: Recently expanded seating by connecting with neighboring shops.
- Interior: Spacious and comfortable. With 76 seats, it's a relief compared to other cramped restaurants in the area.
- Rating at the time of visit: 3.52
I had been avoiding this place due to the always-long line, but when I finally tried the food, it was delicious! Compared to other shops, the Monja here is easy to eat, rich in flavor, well-balanced, and not too salty even towards the end, so it remains delicious throughout. In terms of taste, I think it's second only to Koboreya. And yet, they have kept their prices reasonable to make it accessible to local residents. Indeed, it is quite affordable compared to other places that set higher prices. The level of service is also good. They will make the Monja for you according to the proper procedure, ensuring a delicious dish. In many other places, I often see shortcuts being taken for the sake of speed. Monja can taste different depending on the broth, base flavors, and cooking methods, so each shop has its own unique taste. The Monja at Kura is one of the best in Tsukishima, delicious and reasonably priced, making it worth waiting in line for.

This time, I skipped the mentaiko mochi cheese Monja, which I always order. It's delicious, but after years of eating it every time, I wanted to try something different. The Kura Special is a must-have here because it's so delicious. Based on the staff's recommendation, I ordered the Shoga Negi, which was also delicious! It may be a common choice, but it goes well with alcohol. Despite the line, the turnover is surprisingly fast, so personally, I think it's worth waiting. There's a reason why people line up here. It's a great restaurant. Thank you for the meal! m(_ _)m
