mar-chin
In late October 2019, after a live event, I decided to stop by this place near the Oedo Line to satisfy my hunger. It was a coincidence, but I was surprised to meet a friend who happened to be from Hiroshima (^-^; I had a craving for okonomiyaki after indulging in it during the summer in Hiroshima. When I passed by earlier, it was empty, but after 9 pm, it was almost full! It's true that it's a bit deserted in terms of bars in the area, but it seems like it's not the only one? I waited for them to finish cleaning before entering. I was guided to a narrow 2-person seat by the window and was told it was okay to place my belongings on top of the sake cases behind me. I toasted with a Suntory Malt's beer (490→390 yen excluding tax)! The appetizer consisted of macaroni, bamboo shoots, cucumber, etc., mixed with mayonnaise, which I quite liked. I ordered the recommended "Super Kuwachan Yaki / Half Size 1400 yen" with steamed noodles, and "Seafood Yaki / Half Size 1200 yen" with udon noodles. You can choose from steamed noodles, fresh noodles, or udon for the okonomiyaki. It was nice that they offered half sizes. There were young staff members, one male and one female, and a male chef cooking on the iron griddle. He seemed to have trained in Hiroshima. The seafood yaki (with fresh squid, fresh shrimp, squid tempura, and udon noodles) arrived on an iron plate topped with nori. It was my first time seeing nori on okonomiyaki! It had cuts for easy sharing, and there was a large spatula for serving. It was like a soft noodle seafood stir-fry (^_^) I'm not sure about the standard for udon on an iron griddle, but the sauce, similar to the Otafuku brand, was delicious. I ordered another beer, and the Super Kuwachan Yaki (with fresh squid, fresh shrimp, squid tempura, cheese, and green onions) arrived with chopped green onions on top. It had cuts for easy eating with chopsticks, and although it was made with fresh ingredients like the one I had in Hiroshima, it was different. Something was off—it seemed a bit overcooked and tough. The restaurant has been around for 9 years, with the current owner running it for 3 years. The atmosphere was enjoyable, and it brought back memories of being in Hiroshima. It was a nice find in this area. Thank you for the meal♪
