Located in a mixed-use building in Kabukicho, "Kenshinryu" is open 24 hours a day. I have tried visiting the restaurant at night several times, but it was always full. So, when I had the opportunity to go to Kabukicho during the day, I decided to try my luck on a Sunday afternoon, and this time I was able to get a table. The interior of the restaurant has counter seats and table seats in the back, with private rooms. This time, I chose a table seat at the back, which allowed me to peek into the kitchen and see the counter seats through the window, giving a sense of secrecy. The ordering system offers all-you-can-drink options for 1 hour (1300 yen) to 3 hours (1900 yen), with a set number of dishes to order for each time limit, following their unique rules. Single drink orders are priced at 500 yen per drink, and I ordered two dishes. Although the 3-hour all-you-can-drink option seemed enticing with its wide variety of drinks, since it was lunchtime, I decided to go with single orders this time. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, and I had a hard time choosing, but eventually settled on the grilled bamboo shoot with seaweed miso, potato salad, minced raw fish, mountain yam with raw egg, and stir-fried pork belly with pickled daikon. Each dish was carefully crafted and exceeded my expectations, making it easy to keep drinking. I started with a glass of draft beer, then switched to a tasting set of three types of sake for my second drink. The dimly lit atmosphere of the restaurant made me forget it was daytime, and I found myself enjoying the drinks more than I intended. Perhaps I should have gone for the all-you-can-drink option after all (laughs). I also learned that there is another restaurant called "Kenshinryu Shun" on the 8th floor of the same building, and upon asking a friend who enjoys drinking in Shinjuku, I found out that if the 2nd-floor Kenshinryu is full, they will guide you to the one on the 8th floor. I definitely want to visit the one on the 8th floor as well.
