I was planning on having the usual mild white miso stewed udon, but since I'm here, I'll try the new menu! I entered the restaurant immediately. There were only about 3 empty seats and it was almost full. I definitely love the stewed udon at this restaurant. Here it comes! Nice, the lid of the pot is opened in the usual piping hot state... Let's go! It's bubbling! Since the closing time is 9 PM, I'll eat quickly. I don't need a separate plate. Alright, starting from the piping hot bubbling soup... Let's go! Nice. But it's not mild, it's slightly spicy. This must be the power of the slightly spicy chicken meatball. Alright, let's have the meatball! Oh, the meatball is firm and meaty, nice! And there are quite a lot of them. And it's indeed slightly spicy. I see, this is the feeling. There's not much tempura crumbs. The fried tofu didn't have much presence either. Even though it's the same white miso, it's a different dish. This is definitely delicious in its own way. I think this is good for when you're in the mood for something slightly spicy or when you want to eat a lot of meatballs. The udon has the same satisfying texture as always, which I like. Visited at 10:35 am on Monday, I was the first in line. I often come to Junkudo in Ikebukuro on weekends. It was always crowded when I peeked in, so I decided to come on a weekday early, but it seems I was a bit too eager. Still, there were 7-8 people lined up when they opened. You buy a meal ticket right at the entrance. Next to it, they were making udon noodles facing the road. The menu has a variety of options, including miso udon. I ordered the regular Nikujiru Udon for 960 yen. The portion of Musashino Udon is quite large, although I'm not sure of the exact grams. The noodles are on the thicker side for Musashino Udon. However, the broth lacked impact. Thick noodles need a strong broth to stand out, but this one fell short. Considering there are many renowned Musashino Udon shops, I didn't find this one particularly outstanding.

The challenge of thick and long noodles tested the strength of my jaw. I chose the regular size with soup. The noodles were delicious, but as I kept eating, I started to get tired of them. It was interesting to learn about this type of udon. I wonder how they would taste if they were simmered.

Ikebukuro's Higashi-dori! There are many nice restaurants concentrated in the side street area next to Junkudo, but this place is known for having one of the top 100 udon shops! It can get crowded during lunchtime, but it's not as busy at night! You can easily get a table if you go. The udon here is famous for its incredibly firm texture! You really have to use your teeth to eat it! It's called Musashino Udon, and it's just so chewy!! I was wondering if this is really good, but it seems to be popular! I personally prefer a softer texture, but it was interesting to try a famous local shop. The grated yam topping was delicious too!

Tonight, I felt like trying some udon, so I searched and found Musashino Udon! I'm really curious about it. In the past, there was a Udon Museum in Kyoto where you could try different regional udon, but I've never heard of Musashino Udon. There are still so many things in the world that I don't know. Seriously. So, I ordered the classic Nikujiru Udon with mushroom toppings. The dipping broth is full of ingredients, which makes me happy. Soon, the udon arrives. It's pretty thick. The dipping broth is piping hot. They even provide hot water to enjoy the broth at the end. Oh, this is the complete opposite of Fukuoka's soft and limp udon. Watching the person next to me eat simmered dishes, I wonder if this is similar to Houtou. I'd like to try the simmered dish next time. Japan has a variety of udon, indeed. It was very delicious. This is a udon restaurant located a few minutes' walk from the east exit of Ikebukuro Station. It is known for its chewy Musashino udon. I visited around 6:30 pm on a weekend. Since they are open for continuous service from lunchtime, it is convenient. I thought there might be a line because it was in the 6 o'clock hour, but luckily it was a rare time when it was not crowded and I was able to be seated right away. You buy a meal ticket first before entering as it is a self-service type of restaurant. They offer various types of udon such as grated yam udon, meat udon, and chicken soup udon. The basic way to eat is to dip the noodles in the broth. They also have a simmered udon that does not require dipping. I like duck, so I chose the duck soup. The regular portion is 400 grams, which is quite generous. The noodles arrived quickly. The Musashino udon is thicker and chewier than usual, not as smooth, which is its characteristic. It seems like it would be filling due to the chewy texture, but surprisingly, it is easy to eat. Even when eating just the noodles, there is a slightly salty and flavorful taste. The duck itself was decent, but the chewy texture of the noodles was delicious.

I finally got to visit because it was always crowded and I was curious. I was lucky to visit at 2:30 pm on a weekday when it was not busy. The udon noodles had a strong texture and looked beautiful. The taste was delicious and it seemed like there were many regular customers. I would like to visit again if I am nearby.

It is a shop located on the first floor about a 5-minute walk from Ikebukuro Station. I arrived 10 minutes before the 11:00 opening time, but there was already a line of about 20 people, indicating that it is a popular shop. It had been quite a while since my last visit, but the satisfying chewing sensation of the food was as good as ever. The faint aroma of wheat that comes out of the nose after chewing enhanced my appetite. Thank you for the meal.

We visited the famous udon restaurant "Uchitateya" in Ikebukuro. When we arrived around 5:30 pm, there were about 3 people waiting in line, and we waited for about 10 minutes before entering the restaurant. I chose the duck udon for 930 yen and added mushrooms for 150 yen at the ticket machine. Soon after, a tray with a steaming bowl of udon and dipping sauce was brought to our table. The first thing that caught my attention was the thickness of the udon noodles. They seemed to be almost 1 centimeter square at the thickest part. I think these are the thickest udon noodles I have ever had. When I picked them up with my chopsticks, I was surprised by their weight. I dipped the noodles into the sauce and took a bite. The aroma of the sauce filled my mouth, and then I started to enjoy the chewy texture of the noodles. It felt like eating a firm jelly candy. The wheat aroma was also delightful. The overall atmosphere was similar to the udon noodles from Fujiyoshida, but these noodles were thicker and had a stronger chewiness. Although my jaw got tired from chewing, the udon was incredibly delicious and addictive. The dipping sauce on its own had a good balance of broth, saltiness, and a hint of acidity. However, when combined with the noodles, the impact of the udon overshadowed the sauce. It was better to let the noodles soak in the sauce before eating them to fully enjoy the flavors. Even then, towards the end, the taste of the plain noodles became more prominent. Perhaps adding a thicker sauce or more saltiness to the noodles would make the experience even better. Overall, the noodles were outstanding. I look forward to trying their simmered dishes next time.

Visited on a Saturday night. This udon restaurant in the Ikebukuro area has top-notch reviews. I stopped by after having dinner elsewhere. There were 3 people waiting outside, but I got in after about 10 minutes. The popular Nikujiru Udon was served surprisingly quickly, in about 5 minutes. The gentle yet rich soy sauce and the sweetness of the meat made it very delicious. The udon noodles were thick and firm, with a great chewiness. Personally, I think it's the best texture I've ever had in udon. However, since it's the type of zaru udon, some may find it tiring to chew. I personally hope they offer simmered udon as well for more variety.

Meat juice udon - Regular - 960 yen I visited near closing time on a weekday, but there was still a considerable line! The visual impact is also impressive with the extremely thick udon noodles. They have a moderate texture rather than being as chewy as gummy candies, and as you chew, the sweetness and flavor of the wheat come rushing in. The dipping sauce is also rich enough to match the noodles. I had never tried this type of udon before, but it was a very satisfying meal!

Udon Hyakumeiten East 2022. Visited on Wednesday at 11:45, seating rate was about 80%. There was no line today, maybe because it rained a little earlier. I originally planned to go to ABC, but there were about 10 people in line, so I decided to come here instead. ABC was featured on a TV Tokyo show about delicious food in Ikebukuro recently, so it was crowded. I thought this place might be featured too since there was a special about East Street, but it wasn't. Looking at the menu, I was tempted by the curry udon, but since it's still hot these days, I went for the Niku-Jiru Udon in large size. I realized later from the picture I took at the ticket machine that the curry udon also comes with a side dish! I should have tried the curry udon instead. I think the ticket machine only accepts cash. I handed the food ticket to the staff and my udon arrived in about 5 minutes. The udon noodles were thick and chewy, with a really strong texture. Some parts were too chewy, so I soaked them in the broth a bit longer to soften them before eating. The marinade for the meat was also delicious. I'll have to try the curry udon next time.

It has a strong impact both in appearance and texture. The texture is chewy and delicious! The meat juice is based on pork and is irresistible to pork lovers, delicious! (First review) 09/01/2023 First visit. Selected as one of the Top 100 Udon restaurants in the 2022 Tabelog Udon EAST ranking. I came to Ikebukuro just to visit this Musashino Udon specialty shop. Here is what I ordered: [Food] - Torijiru Udon x 2 (¥1230. Normal serving is 400g, large is 500g, extra large is 600g, and 2 servings is 800g. I previously ate an 800g serving of tsukemen at "Menya Suzuran," so I thought that 800g as "2 servings" would be enough to fill me up, but it wasn't. I'm not a big fan of Musashino Udon, but I thought the chewy texture was good for a change.) Next time, I want to try the 1kg serving. Thank you for the meal.

It's September 1st, you know! I may be the only one eating piping hot simmered udon here, but I believe in the deliciousness of this place! You should eat it even if you sweat! The noodles themselves are incredibly delicious, so of course the cold ones are good too. But I stick to the simmered udon!笑

Today in the afternoon, I had a meeting scheduled in Higashimatsuyama. While on my way in the company car, I had planned to eat Musashino Udon, but unfortunately, the front windshield of the car cracked. So, I had to change my plans and take the train instead. However, I was determined to eat at Musashino Udon no matter what! I searched for the restaurant and arrived at 13:30. There were two people waiting in front of the shop. I ordered the Torijiru Udon for 1,010 yen (note that the price may have changed from what is listed on Tabelog). The restaurant was not very spacious, and sharing a table with others seemed to be the norm. It was a Saturday night, but we were able to get a table without much of a wait. However, they informed us that they were running out of broth and began closing up before their official closing time. The udon arrived quickly after we were seated. The taste was average, nothing special. The noodles were extremely chewy with a strong texture. The broth was also plain, nothing remarkable. Given that this was in Ikebukuro, the price seemed reasonable for what we got. The chewiness of the noodles did make me feel full. I thought I didn't need to order the large portion, as I ended up feeling quite full halfway through. It felt like a decent meal overall.

I had a general idea of the atmosphere from looking at the photos, but when I actually saw it in person, I was surprised by the thickness of the noodles. They were very chewy and full of flavor as you bite into them. I ordered the meat juice udon, which seems to be popular, but the curry also looked delicious. If I have the chance to visit Ikebukuro again, I will definitely come back to this restaurant.
