On September 17, 2023, at "Bamban" in Shinjuku, I tried the jumbo-sized chicken cutlet! Bamban (Shinjuku) Chicken cutlet set meal for 950 yen (free rice refill) Located in a building in Nishi-Shinjuku where you can have lunch at a reasonable price, the izakaya "Bamban Shinjuku Honten" is a hidden gem. The restaurant is on the basement floor of a building with various dining establishments. They open at 11:30 am on holidays with no prior customers. The dimly lit interior with a counter and tables gives off a cozy, somewhat nostalgic atmosphere. They have slightly increased their prices since my last visit. The lunch menu includes items like Grilled Beef Harami Set Meal for 1,050 yen, Chicken Cutlet Set Meal (with homemade sauce or grated ponzu) for 950 yen, and Pork Loin Ginger Stir-Fry Set Meal for 950 yen. The best part is that you can have unlimited rice refills, which is a great service! This time, I ordered the Chicken Cutlet Set Meal (grated ponzu) for 950 yen + Large Rice Portion (free) = 950 yen. After waiting for about 15 minutes, it was ready. Ta-da! What a huge portion! A jumbo-sized chicken cutlet served on a large plate with a diameter of 22 centimeters! It includes a mountain of cabbage and four pieces of chicken cutlet, giving it an impressive presentation. The large rice portion is served in a big bowl with a diameter of 13 centimeters, and it comes with a generous serving of grated ponzu, grated yam, pickles, and miso soup, making it a very luxurious lunch. As I started eating, I was amazed by the deliciousness of the chicken cutlet made from chicken breast meat, about 1 centimeter thick. The meat was tender and juicy, offering a healthy flavor when eaten as is. Adding plenty of grated ponzu sauce made it refreshing and delicious! I finished my first bowl of rice quickly! But don't worry, rice refills are free! Once I got a refill, I enjoyed it with grated ponzu sauce, and the rice disappeared quickly. I then poured the grated yam over the rice, and eating yam rice made me feel happy! I could also replenish my cabbage supply. I finished the meal while savoring every bite and drank up the miso soup, feeling 110% full. The Chicken Cutlet Set Meal for 950 yen, which comes with grated yam and unlimited rice refills, offers fantastic value for money. They are open all year round, making it convenient to visit. There are parking meters and paid parking lots around the restaurant. The restaurant is just a few minutes' walk from Shinjuku Station South Exit, making it easily accessible. I went back after a long time because the tororo I had last time was delicious, and I was completely satisfied just eating tororo and rice. The harami was also tender and easy to eat, and the miso soup was well seasoned, making it a fantastic lunch.

With all-you-can-drink for ¥4800, this place offers a wide variety of dishes with generous portions. The menu includes: 3 types of delicacies, assorted sashimi (octopus, mackerel), signature grilled skewers (Negima chicken, special tsukune, chicken tenderloin with wasabi), seasonal simmered dish, deep-fried local chicken (2 pieces per person), seasonal salad, today's rice ball and red miso soup. If you're looking for a quiet izakaya in Shinjuku, I will definitely visit again.

I visited the izakaya Bamban located on the basement floor of Shinjuku Nishiguchi and tried the all-you-can-drink course for 4800 yen. In this situation, it's understandable, but the staff who can hardly speak Japanese made communication quite difficult. As for the course menu, I felt that it might be better to feature yakitori a little more prominently.

I visited around 21:30☺︎ on a Saturday and it was not crowded. I was able to get in without a reservation. I ordered skewers, chicken nuggets, tamagoyaki, and oyakodon, and they were all delicious. The flavors may have been on the stronger side, which was perfect when I was a little tipsy. The portions were also satisfying.

Let's go to Nishishinjuku Banban for lunch someday and have the chicken cutlet lunch set with grated ponzu sauce for ¥950. The chicken breast is crispy, and you can get extra rice if you want. The portion of rice is a bit small, but the grated ponzu sauce is generous. The manager, who is cooking at the grill, seems a bit distracted by his phone. Overall, it's a good meal.

"Banchan Yakitori Grill" is a izakaya located in the Shinjuku Station West Exit area. It is situated on the basement floor of a building where restaurants like Lingr Hat and Chinmaya are located on the first floor. As you descend the stairs, you will find the entrance to the restaurant. I visited for the first time around 3 PM on a day off. Upon entering the restaurant, you will see a counter with about 10 seats, as well as a few table seats to the right and further back on the left. In the evenings, they specialize in chicken dishes and sake with a focus on grilled skewers. The lunch menu offers a variety of meat dishes, such as chicken cutlet, ginger pork, harami (beef skirt steak), and beef tongue, ranging from 950 yen. They also offer hearty combination meals like the Gutsuri Combo Meal (1,150 yen). Rice is refillable and comes with miso soup, grated yam, and a small side dish. This time, I chose the "Service Lunch" which includes beef harami and ginger pork for 1,000 yen. As it was past the lunch rush, there were only a few customers dining at that time. The food was served in less than 10 minutes. The main dish included pork loin ginger pork hidden under the leeks, beef harami steak cubes, salad, and mayonnaise. The ginger pork had a mild seasoning with tender meat, and I enjoyed it with rice while adding mayonnaise. The beef harami was well-seasoned and served as a good rice accompaniment despite its small size. After finishing the rice, I still had some grated yam left, so I decided to get a half portion refill, which turned out to be generously portioned. I finished the second serving of rice with the grated yam, miso soup, and the kinpira side dish. Payment is cash only, but credit cards are accepted. The lunch menu seemed to be available until around 3 PM as it was cleared up when I left."

I visited Yuran without a reservation around 18:30, for the first time in a few years. I sat at the counter and ordered a bottled beer. The glass wasn't cold and the beer was a bit warm. I ordered shio (salt) yakitori, including chicken thigh and wings with salt, liver and tsukune with tare (sauce). The wings were thick and tender, but overly salty. The chicken thigh was the same, too salty. The tare was good but the yakitori was overcooked and bitter from being burnt. The liver was served without a plate and the tsukune had shiso and star anise which I didn't like. The broccoli was served with anchovy mayonnaise. The spicy stir-fried pork with leeks was seasoned with chili oil and ponzu sauce, giving it a Chinese-style flavor. The kitchen had two foreign staff members, which was a bit different from before. The salty seasoning and burnt yakitori might have been just a one-time thing, but it was disappointing overall. By around 19:00, the restaurant was full, so it seems to be quite popular. I think I'm done with Yuran...

I regularly visit a restaurant for lunch. One of their signature dishes is ginger pork, which is grilled over charcoal instead of a frying pan. The sweet and savory ginger sauce pairs perfectly with the rice. They also serve dishes like grated yam with dashi broth and a flavorful soup with root vegetables and chicken. Each dish is carefully made and delicious.

I was walking around wondering where to have dinner, and decided to try this place for the first time. The charcoal-grilled chicken skewers were really delicious. The restaurant allows smoking inside, which made me hesitate a bit (I don't smoke), but the ventilation was good, so it wasn't a problem. I ordered freshly boiled broccoli, bonito straw-grilled skewers, a set of 5 assorted skewers, and added pork asparagus rolls, liver, and tsukune skewers. The rice balls were big and filling.

I visited here located in a basement of a mixed-use building near Shinjuku Nishiguchi. I ordered the "Grilled Skewers Course with All-You-Can-Drink" course. The drink service for all-you-can-drink is a bit slow. The skewer dishes are delicious, as expected from a yakitori restaurant.

On this day, in the mood for a hearty meal, I was exploring Shinjuku Nishiguchi when I came across an enticing lunch menu! I decided to go in and check it out. The restaurant I visited this time is Han Han Shinjuku Honten. Going down the stairs, I reached the entrance of the restaurant. Upon opening the wooden door, I found myself in a cozy space with dim lighting, typical of a yakitori izakaya. Just that atmosphere made me want to have a drink. I was quickly seated at a table for four, and soon the place started filling up with customers, almost reaching full capacity. I ordered a dish that caught my eye from the table menu: - Grilled beef harami (120g) set meal with charcoal fire for 1050 yen I requested extra rice and the sauce with crunchy wasabi. In about 10 minutes, the food arrived. The main dish, a bowl of rice, miso soup, a small side dish, and grated yam made up the contents of the set. The main plate had chunks of grilled beef harami on top, with lettuce underneath and potato salad on the side. There was also a small dish of crunchy wasabi. I started by tasting the grilled beef harami as it was. The meat marinated in a special sauce had a smoky and charred aroma, and when I bit into it, it was tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious! I wish I could pair it with sweet potato shochu (*´▽`*) Instead, I dug into the rice in the bowl, which was cooked to perfection, fluffy and with a hint of sweetness. It had a wonderful texture, and the taste was superb. Dipping the harami meat into the crunchy wasabi sauce added a sharp wasabi fragrance to the dish, enhancing the flavor. The miso soup was served in a generous portion and piping hot, which was delightful. The small side dish of simmered hijiki was comforting and tasty. I enjoyed the salad and potato salad on the main plate as well. Before I knew it, I had finished all the rice in the bowl. I asked for a half portion of rice to be added, poured the grated yam on top, and turned it into yam rice, finishing it all in one go. It was amazing! Indeed, the quality of rice, a crucial element in a set meal, is important. Other customers were also requesting rice refills left and right. I finished my cold tea, paid in cash, and thought to myself, "That was delicious." I have definitely decided to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant alone around 17:50. I ordered a Hoppy Black Set for 490 yen, which came with Kinmiya. The appetizer was grated daikon radish, and it was delicious. You can also ask for refills. The salt-grilled mackerel was 630 yen, boiled edamame was 450 yen, a bit on the pricey side but tasty. The liver was 250 yen, the tail was 270 yen, and the prime meat was 260 yen, all grilled with salt and incredibly delicious. The grilling technique was impressive.

Please enjoy the large yakitori skewers! The restaurant was packed when I arrived, with only two staff members. It was a bit daunting to see that smoking was allowed, but since I had already come down the stairs, I decided to just go with it. The highball was strong and delicious. There were many types of yakitori available, but popular choices like tsukune were sold out, which was unfortunate. It was impressive to see how busy it was on a weekday. The grated daikon radish seemed to be a recommended topping, and it was indeed delicious. Each skewer was a decent size, and there was also a counter where you could enjoy your meal.

The meat dishes are delicious. The rice is good, and the meat grilled over charcoal is very fragrant. Today, I had the grilled beef harami set meal. It comes with side dishes, salad, potato salad, miso soup, and grated yam, giving a high level of satisfaction. You can also have unlimited rice refills, and it was surprising to enjoy lunch while listening to Coltrane in the restaurant. I want to try various menu items in the future and will definitely visit again.

This is an izakaya located in Nishi-Shinjuku. The restaurant is situated in a commercial area where Yodobashi Camera and various eateries are clustered. Despite being in the basement of a building, it has a prominent presence with a large sign on the first floor. Inside, there is a counter facing the kitchen as you enter, with table seating in the back on both sides. The capacity is standard for an izakaya in Nishi-Shinjuku. The lunch menu offers set meals starting from 900 yen. The main dishes are either chicken or pork, with a focus on charcoal-grilled items, but there are also fried options available. The restaurant showcases shochu from Kagoshima, indicating a specialty in Kyushu cuisine. I tried the "Tender Pork Cutlet Set Meal" for 1,000 yen, which includes two thin pork cutlets. The breading is fine and adheres well to the meat, resulting in a juicy and easy-to-eat cutlet. The sauce provided is not your typical tonkatsu sauce but something more like demi-glace, adding a unique and delicious touch. The second cutlet has plum and shiso sandwiched between the slices, providing a nice variation in flavor. The side dish of shredded cabbage with sesame dressing complements the cutlets well. The side dishes include simmered hijiki seaweed and grated yam, but the ample portion of the cutlets makes them less essential. The miso soup with seaweed and tofu has a distinctive salty taste and generous portion. The rice is standard and refillable, catering to those with a hearty appetite. Overall, this izakaya in Nishi-Shinjuku offers a standard-priced lunch with decent taste and satisfying portions, ideal for meat lovers who also consider nutritional balance.

Today, the sun isn't shining so it's getting chilly. Starting off this week's lunch at "Bamban" for the first time in three weeks. This time, I ordered the following from the lunch menu: [Grilled Beef Harami Set (120g with wasabi)] ¥980. The harami is Australian beef and it was marinated in a special sauce overnight to make it tender, which was surprising. The rice, "Nanatsuboshi" from Hokkaido, was freshly cooked and delicious. I even got seconds today. The quality for this price is amazing. Thank you for the meal!

This week started with a visit to "Bamban" for the second time in about a month. I ordered the most reasonably priced option this time, the "Soft Chicken Cutlet Set" for ¥880 (rice, free refills). The chicken cutlet was made from thinly sliced breast meat, with 3 pieces freshly fried. You can choose from three types of sauce: homemade, grated ponzu, or cheese sauce (+¥50), and I chose the homemade one. The texture of the cutlet was indeed very soft and easy to eat. The rice was steaming hot and delicious. Of course, I had a second helping. I enjoyed it with grated yam rice. Thank you for the meal.

This week started with a new discovery. I visited "Bamban" located near the west exit of Shinjuku Station. It's on the B1 floor, so I had always overlooked it until now. I entered for the first time. It was a bit past 12 o'clock and the restaurant was quite full, with many male customers. Upon entering, temperature checks and hand sanitizing were conducted. I was seated at a counter separated by acrylic boards and ordered the following lunch menu item: [Pork loin ginger stir-fry set] ¥900. The thick pork loin came in 3 slices, with plenty of finely sliced cabbage. The rice was glossy and looked nice. The miso soup bowl was big. The lunch menu mainly consists of meat dishes such as chicken cutlet, beef tongue, harami, etc., with unlimited rice refills. It seems like a place that can satisfy the stomachs of salarymen. I want to try other menu items as well. I will come back again. Thank you for the meal.

I don't want to count how many times an emergency declaration has been issued, but finally, a week after the nightmare emergency declaration was lifted, I can go to an izakaya with my junior colleague. I'm so happy! "Pitopito Seijin" Ichigou, along with the junior colleague, headed to the area around Shinjuku Station West Exit. It was a Friday in October, during the month of Kannazuki. After visiting a major trading company in front of the station, we headed straight back. This is the privilege of sales, going back directly. I learned this from Senior I a long time ago, and I will pass on what I learned to my junior colleagues, so rest assured. Senior I is now the president of our company (seriously). It's been a few years since I was last at Shinjuku West Exit. As I was wondering where to go, the touts started gathering like bees. It's an unbearable situation. As I was heading towards Yasukuni Street, something caught my eye on a signboard. It said "Bin Bin" charcoal grilled skewers. Alright, let's go to this restaurant tonight. We entered "Banban" restaurant. "You've been to Tokyo many times, haven't you~♪♪, the beautiful capital you live in~♪♪," sang Ichigou at his own pace, a classic song. I tried to get my junior colleague to sing too, but he just looked bewildered. How old are you, really? ★Inside the restaurant★ The nearest station is JR Shinjuku Station West Exit...or so I thought. Actually, I'm completely unfamiliar with the Shinjuku area, so I can't provide any geographical guidance. I will definitely get lost without someone else there, so please forgive me. The interior of the restaurant is a Showa-style izakaya. This kind of atmosphere is very calming, but it's been a while since I've experienced it. ★Parking facilities★ There is no dedicated parking lot. ★Smoking situation★ Smoking is allowed in all seats. ★Today's alcohol★ 'Lemon Sour' 540 yen x 5 'Isami (hot water)' 500 yen x 5 ★Today's order★ 'Otosshi' 350 yen x 2 'Sasami' 250 yen 'Sunagimo' 250 yen 'Tsukune' 260 yen 'Shiokara' 490 yen 'Onigiri (salmon)' 220 yen ★Consumption tax situation★ All prices include tax, no additional charges. ★Additional notes for today★ It's been a long time since I had a company drinking session at an izakaya. I couldn't do this normal job for a while...truly, this coronavirus is the boss of all evil, I want Matsudaira Ken and Takahashi Hideki to take care of it! The otosshi is grated daikon, a good companion for alcohol. I recommend trying it with wasabi and no soy sauce, just plain daikon. The wasabi clears your sinuses and the alcohol goes down smoothly. Definitely worth a try! With a focus on charcoal-grilled yakitori, the menu is diverse. Shinjuku is truly full of impressive restaurants. Thank you for the meal! I'll visit again! Now let's head home. I treated as per Senior's teachings, is this okay, President I? Pitopito, Pitopito.

Cuisine: Grilled beef skirt steak set meal Price: 980 yen Located underground near Yodobashi Camera, this izakaya caught my attention. The beef skirt steak was grilled right in front of me and served promptly. The miso soup, made with red miso which I'm not a fan of, was included along with side dishes, grated yam, and salad. I could also choose the seasoning for the meat, and I opted for grated ponzu sauce, which came with an unbelievable amount of grated daikon radish - a pleasant surprise! The skirt steak was tender with a delicious grilled aroma. Under the salad, there was even a potato salad resembling mashed potatoes! The portion size was generous. The only downside was the sight of a very angry waiter, which was a bit off-putting. By the way, my Rakuten Mobile had no signal.
