Tonkatsu Marugo in Akihabara, offering a set menu featuring special loin cutlet, has been in business for nearly half a century since 1975. In recent years, it has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Tonkatsu Restaurants" in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022, and is also featured in the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list, making it a popular spot. Arriving at 11:00, I was the 11th in line, and by 11:10, there were 20 people, followed by 38 at 11:25. The difference between the special loin and regular loin is that the special loin is 170g and of higher quality, while the regular loin is 140g. When you order the set menu with rice, red miso soup, and pickles, it becomes a set meal style. The special loin cutlet arrived at 11:56, and it was incredibly delicious, tender, juicy, bursting with the sweetness and umami of the loin - absolutely delicious! The crispy coating was perfect. Later, I tried it with rock salt, sauce, and mustard, all of which were tasty. The complimentary umeboshi was also excellent. Rice and cabbage can be refilled once for free. Leaving at 12:15, there were still over 30 people waiting in line, confirming its immense popularity. A delightful dining experience!
