Marugo has been attracting long lines both during the day and at night due to an increase in inbound customers. It's my number one tonkatsu spot, so I occasionally check the situation in hopes of getting a chance to eat there. Today, the wait is only 8 people, which is quite short! I decide to get in line and order the special fillet, which I haven't had in a while. After about 20 minutes, I enter the restaurant and take a seat at the counter. After another 10 minutes of waiting, the carefully fried special fillet tonkatsu arrives. It's a large piece, resembling a straw rice bag, with a perfect color indicating the ideal level of cooking. I start by eating the first half with salt. The quality of the meat and the flavor are both wonderful, providing a blissful dining experience. Despite its thickness, the finishing is impressive. For the second half, I enjoy it with the sauce. Squeezing a bit of lemon adds a refreshing taste that isn't heavy at all. If you want to purely savor the taste of the meat, salt is the way to go, but the sauce elevates the deliciousness to another level, so it's best to enjoy it as you like. While I want to avoid waiting too long, I'll come back again at the right time.

I ordered the pork cutlet, which had the best taste ever. The breading is very thin but the meat is thick. It felt like they were focusing on the quality of the meat rather than the crispiness of the breading. As a result, there was no greasiness in the breading, allowing you to enjoy the taste of the meat until the end. You can enjoy it with sauce or salt, but salt is recommended. The service is also very good, they actively ask if you want more rice or cabbage. The miso soup was also delicious. Marugo is known for its long waiting lines, but if you line up at 11 o'clock when they open, you only need to wait until 11:30 and you can get in during the first or second seating.

I arrived around 11 am, before the restaurant opened, and there was already a line of about 30 people. It took about 80 minutes to get inside and order the special rosukatsu set. The meat was tender, the breading was moist, and the sauce was spicy. It's definitely worth waiting in line for a long time.

"Marugo" Location Akihabara Budget 1500~ I always thought there would be a long line, but we were able to get in after about 10 minutes in the evening! I ordered the special tenderloin cutlet, and the meat was so tender and flavorful. They provide salt and sauce, but I recommend the salt. There were a lot of foreign customers inside, which was surprising. #Marugo #TonkatsuMarugo #Tonkatsu #WantToConnectWithTonkatsuLovers #WantToConnectWithGourmetLovers #LookingForGourmetFriends #AkihabaraGourmet

I headed to a restaurant planning to have tempura rice bowl, but it was closed unexpectedly. I searched nearby and found this highly-rated place I hadn't tried before. There were about 6 people in front of the store. People were constantly coming in, and I ordered at a large table on the second floor. Since most customers were foreigners, they were served with an English menu. I ordered the "hirekatsu set meal" for 2,400 yen with a little less rice. The cutlet was tender and had a beautiful color. I could use the salt and sauce on the table as I liked. The batter was soft, so it might come off easily towards the end, so eat it quickly. The shredded cabbage had a sesame aroma and was delicious, so I had seconds. It seems you can also have refills of red miso soup and rice. I was satisfied.

Thanks to the convergence of the COVID-19 situation and the weak yen, it seems that among restaurants, long-established specialty shops are benefiting the most from inbound tourism. The line before opening was filled with many foreign tourists. After passing by countless times, I finally visited this establishment after being influenced by a TV Tokyo program the day before. The place was bustling with a large group of customers from the moment it opened, and I entered just 10 minutes after the curtains were raised. I was seated at a table on the second floor, where I ordered special fillet and special loin with banana shrimp, and enjoyed beer and appetizers while waiting. The cutlets that arrived were beautifully fried in a white color. The fillet was gently fried and had a good texture, making it a refined and delicious dish. The loin had a wild meaty aroma, yet with each bite, I could taste its richness. You can order the banana shrimp fry starting from one piece (¥500). It pairs well with tartar sauce, so you might find one piece insufficient. Be cautious of overdrinking due to the reasonable price of large beer bottles. The service was excellent, and the tea served after the meal was exceptionally delicious. Besides the cutlets, the meat assortment is popular, but it may not be available on certain days. During winter, many customers come for the meat assortment and oyster fry, so I plan to revisit to savor these dishes.

The pork cutlet set meal comes with rice and cabbage, and you can get a refill on them. Since the portion size is small, we shared the four pork cutlets, which were tasty. The miso soup with red miso and the pickled plum were delicious too. The jasmine tea after the meal was a nice touch. We waited in line for about an hour, but it was definitely worth it to eat here.

I went around the opening time on a weekday and waited for an hour, but it was nice to be in the shade ✨ I was seated on the second floor. I ordered the pork cutlet set meal without rice ✨ It comes with miso soup and pickles. The cutlet was crispy and not too oily, with a refreshing taste ✨ I had it with salt and added extra cabbage♪ (you can get one refill) It was a tonkatsu that went well with salt ✨

About a 7-minute walk from Akihabara Station. Arrived at opening time and there were over 30 people waiting in line. The line was on the opposite side of the store. It was nice to be in the shade, and the turnover was quite fast. Ended up waiting for about an hour. Since I was alone, I sat at the counter on the first floor, but larger groups of customers were guided to the second floor. I ordered the special loin cutlet set. It took about 15 minutes from ordering to the tonkatsu arriving. This was delicious. The breadcrumbs and pork were perfectly combined, fried gently to leave a tender white color. The balance of the pork was also excellent. The fatty parts were juicy, and the meat was full of flavor as you chew. Salt and sauce were placed on the table. Sprinkling salt on the fatty parts and eating the meat with sauce was really delicious. This tonkatsu easily makes it into my personal top 5.

When you come here, it's all about the special sirloin or special fillet. Today, I ordered the special sirloin by itself with a bottled beer. I also ordered one fried shrimp. The bottled beer is a big bottle, which is nice. And then, the fried shrimp arrives. It's tender and delicious. I forgot to take a picture. Finally, the special sirloin arrives. First, I tried it with salt, and it was tender and delicious. Next, I tried it with extra hot mustard sauce. That's the way to go. There's almost no smell of cooking oil, and it feels light. It was very delicious.

There are many famous tonkatsu restaurants in the Ueno, Akihabara, and Kanda areas. I visited "Tonkatsu Marugo," located about a 7-minute walk from Akihabara Station Electric Town Exit. This time, I was aiming for the thickly sliced loin tonkatsu that is fried slowly at low temperature. When I arrived at the restaurant, there were about 15 people waiting in line. Since it's a popular place, waiting in line like this was already expected. After waiting for 40 minutes, I was able to sit at the counter seats on the 1st floor. I ordered the special loin katsu set menu. After waiting for 15 to 20 minutes, the eagerly awaited special loin katsu was served in front of me. Despite being a thick tonkatsu, it was so tender that it could be cut easily with chopsticks. When you eat it, the deliciousness of the pork meat spreads in your mouth, along with its juiciness. Additionally, it was incredibly delicious with its not overly fatty texture. It's worth waiting in line to eat here! By the way, you can get one refill each of rice and cabbage. Special Loin Katsu: ¥2,150 Set Menu: ¥550 *Comes with rice, red pickles, and pickled vegetables. One refill of rice and cabbage available.

It's been a while since I visited Marugo. On my way back from a trip, I got off midway and headed there prepared to wait in line. Surprisingly, I didn't have to wait long and was able to enter in about 20 minutes. I was seated at a table on the first floor by myself. I enjoyed some pickles with beer. And then came the special sirloin! It's always delicious no matter when you eat it. The staff were polite, and I had a pleasant dining experience. Thank you for the meal.

Tonkatsu Marugo in Akihabara, offering a set menu featuring special loin cutlet, has been in business for nearly half a century since 1975. In recent years, it has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Tonkatsu Restaurants" in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022, and is also featured in the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand list, making it a popular spot. Arriving at 11:00, I was the 11th in line, and by 11:10, there were 20 people, followed by 38 at 11:25. The difference between the special loin and regular loin is that the special loin is 170g and of higher quality, while the regular loin is 140g. When you order the set menu with rice, red miso soup, and pickles, it becomes a set meal style. The special loin cutlet arrived at 11:56, and it was incredibly delicious, tender, juicy, bursting with the sweetness and umami of the loin - absolutely delicious! The crispy coating was perfect. Later, I tried it with rock salt, sauce, and mustard, all of which were tasty. The complimentary umeboshi was also excellent. Rice and cabbage can be refilled once for free. Leaving at 12:15, there were still over 30 people waiting in line, confirming its immense popularity. A delightful dining experience!

It seems that this tonkatsu restaurant is very popular among foreigners, perhaps featured in a book or something. I was hesitant to enter during lunchtime due to the long line, but when passing by with my mentor, there were only a few people waiting so we decided to give it a try. The interior has counter and table seating. We sat at a multi-person island-style seat. I ordered the hire katsu set meal for 2,150 yen, while others ordered the special hire katsu (a la carte) for 2,150 yen with a rich combination set menu for 550 yen. Worried that I might have made a mistake, I convinced myself that if the special hire was marbled with fat, it would make my stomach loose, so "this is fine," I thought. The katsu isn't that big, so I'm concerned if foreign men are satisfied with this. It has a crispy texture as if sesame oil is used. The edges are softer and juicier than the middle. It's delicious, but personally I prefer Kiseki Shokudo... As time passes, the crispy texture quickly disappears, and it becomes moist, which didn't appeal to me. As we were leaving, I saw more than 20 foreigners lining up outside the restaurant.

Located just a few minutes' walk from Akihabara Station, this restaurant is situated in a quiet area on the outskirts of the bustling electric town, even on weekday afternoons. With a history of being listed in the Michelin Bib Gourmand, it's no surprise that more than half of the line is made up of foreigners. Arriving in the early afternoon, I had to wait for about 40 minutes as there were around 20 people ahead of me in line. The menu offers both individual dishes and set meals. By ordering a set menu (rice, red miso soup, pickles) with an individual dish, you can turn it into a set meal. In addition to tonkatsu, there are also options like kushikatsu, ginger pork, and sautéed dishes, but the tonkatsu is truly outstanding. Today, I chose the "Special Rosu Katsu" with rice set. The tonkatsu, fried slowly at low temperatures after ordering, had a light color with a crispy yet thin coating, thick and tender meat, and juicy, sweet fat that was exquisite. While the tonkatsu with special sauce was delicious, savoring the meat's flavor with just salt is also recommended. The rice, cooked to a glossy and slightly soft texture, was also very delicious. The pickled plum on the table refreshed my palate, and the cabbage with squeezed lemon also provided a refreshing touch, allowing me to enjoy the tonkatsu until the very end. You can have seconds of rice and cabbage.

I stopped by a tonkatsu restaurant on my way back from the hospital. I arrived around 13:50 and there were about 5 people waiting in front of me. It seems to be popular among foreign visitors. I ordered the special loin cutlet and assorted platter. The breading was very light and soft, and the meat was cooked perfectly. The special loin had a lot of fat, but it was still refreshing to eat. However, I found that the fillet cutlet in the assorted platter suited my taste better in terms of fat content. I didn't really need the shrimp. One thing that bothered me was that the cabbage wasn't cut properly, so the tonkatsu breading ended up soggy, hence the rating of 3.5.

I passed by this restaurant before and saw a long line. It turned out to be a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) restaurant. I didn't have time to wait and eat back then, so I decided to try it this time. The hire katsu (fillet cutlet) was 2,400 yen. The hire katsu seemed small to me! It wasn't as good as the high ratings suggested. The meat was tender and fried well, overall it was just decently tasty. I didn't feel the full flavor of the meat. I thought it was a bit disappointing for the price of 2,400 yen. Maybe everyone gets caught up in the good reviews and thinks that decently tasty tonkatsu is extremely delicious? It's not worth the high ratings. Rice and cabbage are free refills (can you get them multiple times?). The tea during the meal and after the meal are different. The staff was friendly.

The tonkatsu at Marugo was truly delicious. The crispy coating on the outside gives way to tender and juicy pork on the inside. The savory aroma of the coating and the flavor of the pork harmonize perfectly, making me feel happy with every bite. There is a wide selection of sauces to choose from, such as sweet or spicy, allowing you to enjoy it according to your preference. The portion size is generous and satisfying, providing a fulfilling meal without getting tired of it until the end. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is calm, and the staff is polite. Marugo's tonkatsu offers an authentic taste and a sense of satisfaction. Be sure to visit and try it out.

A shop located on a corner a little west of Otome Road. I visited on a Sunday evening. Waited for about 20 people and entered in about 50 minutes. More than half of the line were inbound customers. I was seated at the counter on the first floor. There were four chefs behind the counter. The service seemed to be operated by three staff members, including the second floor. The service was polite and not rushed, unlike busy restaurants. I had the hire katsu set meal for 2150 yen. It was mentioned that cabbage and rice are free for one refill. The red miso soup was also delicious.

I arrived around 16:40 on Sunday and there were already about 30 people waiting in line, mostly foreigners. The restaurant opened at 17:00 and I was able to enter about 20 minutes later. I ordered the special loin cutlet set with rice. The miso soup was red miso... hmm, it was salty. You can get one refill of cabbage and rice. The tonkatsu meat was tender but... I wonder if it has become a restaurant mainly for tourists.

There was already a long line 20 minutes before the restaurant opened, but it wasn't exactly one full rotation because they were splitting it up slightly along the way. However, 10 minutes before opening, the line was really long. Looking at the current tonkatsu situation, the prices are not particularly high, but it's not something you should wait in line for. If you can eat without waiting, it's just a decent tonkatsu.
