This time, I visited "Kyoeido Sumatra Curry" in Jinbocho. The restaurant seems to have mixed reviews, but as they say, different strokes for different folks, so I visited on an empty stomach. I went on a Saturday evening, and although the restaurant was about half full, the turnover was fast, with customers continuously coming in. They offer six types of curry: pork (1,100/1,300), chicken (1,300/1,500), shrimp (1,500/1,800), beef (1,500/1,800), tongue (1,950/2,250), and hashed beef rice (1,550/1,850), each with a different flavor. (I found out later...) *Rou (regular/large) Today, I felt like having seafood, so I ordered shrimp curry. After a soup and a small salad, the curry arrived at lightning speed. Total: 1,850 yen (tax included) Sumatra Curry (Shrimp) 1,500 yen Small Salad 350 yen First, the soup. It's a corn-flavored consomme soup, quite salty. The small salad consisted of potato salad, thickly sliced pickled cabbage that almost looked like pickled Chinese cabbage, pickled bean sprouts, basically a kind of pickled arrangement, which was quite tasty. And then the curry. The curry, an adaptation of Sumatran curry, was remarkably dark, and when poured over the rice spread evenly on the plate, it looked like it might overflow, so I spooned it on little by little. The flavor was not particularly rich, and it wasn't very spicy. It had a smoky flavor, reminiscent of charcoal, a unique taste. I couldn't quite grasp what kind of flavor it was. To add some variety, I finished it by adding pickled vegetables and pickled radish. The shrimp was firm and fresh. While each curry has a different taste, they don't seem to vary that much. If I have the chance, I'd like to try other types. It seemed like many customers already knew what curry to order as they quickly placed their orders. Thank you for the meal.
