Located about a 7-minute walk from Azabu-Juban Station, this place always seems to be bustling with customers whenever I visit. The spacious interior has around 70 seats, including counter seats, table seats, and private rooms. While the à la carte menu is quite appealing, I personally recommend the course with all-you-can-drink option. With my companions gathered, we toasted with a glass of draft beer. We enjoyed the appetizers and salads promptly served. The salad, using seasonal fruits and cheese generously, was delightful. This time, it featured citrus fruits, which was also excellent. Next, we were served the Yame tea risotto croquette, which was crispy on the outside and filled with cheese. It had a satisfying texture and was quite tasty. One of the highlights of the course was the assorted sashimi, including tuna and Fukuoka's famous sesame mackerel. The fish here is just incredibly delicious. As we continued to enjoy our drinks, we were served the hotate chop, which was like a tulip-shaped dish fried with a special sauce. It was irresistible and went well with the alcohol. The course also included a sophisticated dish of grilled ama-dai fish scales, which was crispy and flavorful. Although my memory and photos became a bit blurry, we were served the finale - motsu nabe (offal hot pot). We chose the salt flavor, which was a perfect choice. The chewy offal and assorted vegetables harmonized beautifully in the mouth. Overall, it was a perfect dining experience with no complaints. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy authentic Hakata cuisine with a group of two or more. They seem to offer private rooms for early reservations. I had been interested in Hakata Hotaru for a while, so I made a reservation and went there with 5 acquaintances for a year-end party. The main dish we were looking forward to, motsunabe, was average, but the sesame mackerel we ordered was delicious as expected. Everyone around me was eating motsunabe, but due to the lingering summer heat, I decided to have clay pot rice instead, and it was a great choice! The rich flavor of the broth was delicious, and it even tasted great the next day. There were some ikura, sanma, and takana in it, which were all delicious. There was so much food that I couldn't finish it all, so they made me three huge onigiri with the leftovers, which were also delicious the next day. The other dishes like mentaiko tamagoyaki and potato salad were average. There were rare fish like kue and nodoguro for sashimi, and I want to try grilled fish next time. The green salad was voluminous and tasty. The chicken tataki was a bit disappointing. The harasu nigiri was delicious. The option for free refills of grated daikon was also nice. The alcohol, a rare craft beer from Hakata, was amazing and tasted like juice. The prices were a bit high, but the service and taste were good, so I will definitely go back for motsunabe when it gets colder.

On Friday, I visited a restaurant for the first time with my boss and three colleagues. We arrived at 5:50 PM and had to wait on the deck as they were still preparing to open. At 5:55 PM, they opened and we were escorted inside after disinfecting. We were seated in a cozy private room. We started with a toast with beer! We were not sure about the details of the course menu, but the first dish served was fried yellowtail with daikon radish. The yellowtail was delicious, but the daikon radish was exceptional, soaked in flavorful broth. We also had a couple of oysters, which were small but tasty. We enjoyed a bottle of fresh sake called "Shinsei" while having a delicious meal. The steamed egg custard with softshell turtle and green onion was rich and tasty. The assorted sashimi was all delicious, especially the sesame mackerel. The main dish was motsunabe, a hot pot dish with offal, cabbage, tofu, and leeks in a savory broth. We chose the recommended salt flavor, and it was prepared by a staff member from Hakata. It had a nice spicy kick to it. We added a bottle of Sato's sake and enjoyed it on the rocks. For the finale, we had champon, ramen, or zosui, and I chose the ramen. I finished it all and left feeling completely satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I usually visit this restaurant for dinner as they are open at night, but I decided to try their lunch menu this time. I remembered how delicious the firm and fresh sashimi was when I last visited, and I was pleased to find that it was still the same for lunch. The seafood rice bowl was colorful with crab meat, salmon roe, flying fish roe, and yellowtail, topped with a luxurious raw egg. You can also get a refill of rice, and finish off with a comforting ochazuke.
