Located near the Mitsukoshi main store, this eel restaurant has been around for almost 80 years. The entrance is quite impressive with a traditional wooden door and noren curtain. Upon entering, you take off your shoes and head upstairs to the private dining rooms. The rooms are beautifully decorated with tatami mats, chairs, and tables, exuding a traditional Japanese ambiance. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, providing a smooth and pleasant dining experience. The grilled eel dish, made with eel fish sauce, is a must-try, offering a refreshing and delicious flavor. The eel served in the lacquer box is also a highlight, with a slightly tangy and well-balanced sauce. The portion size is generous, and the eel is perfectly cooked over charcoal. After enjoying a delightful fruit dessert, we ended the meal with tea and a leisurely chat, making it a fulfilling lunch meeting.

I made a reservation for a course at 11:30 on Saturday and visited the restaurant. The atmosphere inside was calm, and I was guided to a private room. The large eel dish had two pieces and was very satisfying to eat. The flesh was fluffy and very delicious. I recommend it for formal occasions.

I stopped by a famous eel restaurant while on a business trip. I had a course meal with a variety of eel dishes including appetizers, liver skewers, eel rolls, grilled eel, soy sauce grilled eel, pickled vegetables, eel rice bowl, and a grand slam dessert. Everything was delicious with no disappointments. The grilled eel and soy sauce grilled eel really brought out the flavor of the ingredients and were my personal favorites. Definitely a top-notch restaurant.

I love eel, so I decided to explore Izumoya, a place I had been curious about. I made a same-day reservation and was able to get a spot at the annex. I ordered the eel with hinoki (Japanese cypress) when making the reservation. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lively, perhaps because it was the annex. While waiting for the eel, I ordered water eggplant and ginkgo nuts, which were delicious! I would love to have them again. The eel was fluffy and melted in my mouth. The rice was a bit firm for my liking. I prefer it a bit softer. When the eel melts but the rice is firm, it feels like they are separate in my mouth. I think this is a matter of preference! The rice was cooked similar to the firm texture of rice in curry. I enjoyed the eel! Thank you for the meal!

I made a reservation and visited the restaurant at 12:00 on Monday. When I informed them of my reservation, I was immediately shown to a private room on the second floor (tatami mat with table and chair seating). I ordered a bottle of beer, tamagoyaki, and tomato as appetizers while waiting for my unagi-don. I requested the 1 and 1/4 eel portion (6,930 yen), which was a 30% price increase from the previous price of 5,390 yen for a whole eel. The unagi-don was served in about 20 minutes, and the sauce was pleasantly spicy and easy to eat. The eel itself was not too thick or fluffy, but it was delicious. It was a relaxing and enjoyable unagi lunch experience. However, it seemed that a 10% service charge was included.

I had to adjust my visit time as the initial reservation slot was full. I was seated right by the entrance door and didn't have to wait at all. The hot air from outside kept coming in every time the door opened, but that couldn't be helped. Last time I visited during the pandemic and they didn't serve alcohol, but this time I had bottled beer with eel salad, eel rolls, and eel bone crackers as appetizers, followed by an eel rice bowl. It was refreshing yet flavorful, with a great fluffy texture to the eel. The meticulousness of this long-standing restaurant really satisfied me.

It was a restaurant where you could eat fluffy two-tiered eel! It seemed to open around 11 o'clock, and when I went around 11:30 after the first round was over, there wasn't much of a line. There were both first and second floors, and this time we were able to eat in a semi-private room on the second floor (can accommodate 2 groups). It's nice that you can eat things other than eel boxes for lunch. The foreigner next to me was drinking beer, which made me envious (I couldn't drink because I was working). I had the Hane-Niju, which was a luxurious eel box with two tiers like a noriben. The fluffy eel was delicious. The sauce is not too strong, so I think it's good for enjoying the original flavor of the eel. (If you ask, you can also get extra sauce.) Eel is a matter of personal preference, so I want to continue trying different eels every day.

I had been curious about this eel restaurant for a while, so I woke up early and put in a lot of effort to be one of the first in line for the limited 10 meals. Surprisingly, there were already people lining up even though it was during the summer vacation period. After me, there were people lining up 30 minutes later, so coming at this time is a good guideline! The restaurant opened promptly at 11:00 am, and I was seated. The restaurant had air conditioning, which made it a bit cold, so I decided to visit on a sunny day next time! About 10 minutes after being seated, the limited eel rice bowl (with extra rice) arrived - so fast!! I was very hungry, so I was extremely grateful! Now, time to eat! Since it was freshly made, the eel was tender and fluffy, and the rice was piping hot, so it was incredibly delicious! The sauce was already applied from the start, and it had a flavor that I liked, making it easy to eat - this is how Kanto-style should be! The eel had no hint of odor at all! It was eel from Kagoshima prefecture, and it was so delicious that I definitely want to visit again. It's a restaurant worth waiting early in the morning for! I will definitely visit again! Thank you for the meal!!!

Eel Top 100 Stores 2022✨ Tabelog 3.71✍️ Nihonbashi Izumoya Mitsukoshi-mae / Shin-Nihonbashi - Limited to 10 servings Special Service Unaju ¥3,520 (with liver or red soup) - Asahi Super Dry (bottle) ¥770 On this day, we went to "Nihonbashi Izumoya" to try the limited 10 servings special service Unaju, which is a popular dish featuring one and a half eels, selected as one of the top 100 eel restaurants in 2022. The restaurant, established in 1946, serves carefully crafted Unaju using mainly eels from Kyushu. The Unaju with one and a half eels (Aoi) is priced at ¥6,050, while the limited 10 servings Unaju is offered at a discounted price of ¥3,520, making it very popular! @unagi_idumoya_ The restaurant's account is here! It was the midsummer day of the Ox on Sunday, July 30th. Although Sundays and holidays are usually closed, they were open for business on the midsummer day of the Ox! When we arrived at 10:00, there were 8 people waiting outside. I thought we would be fine since we arrived an hour early, but it was indeed the midsummer day of the Ox, and we managed to be within the first 10 in line. We placed our order at 10:45 for the limited dish. We were seated at a table at 11:00 and enjoyed a bottle of beer (Asahi Super Dry) while waiting. The Unaju arrived in about 15 minutes! When we opened the lid of the lacquered box, we saw one and a half eels neatly arranged inside! We immediately tasted it and were delighted by the perfect balance of fat, exquisite grilling aroma, and tender eel umami that spread all at once. The slightly sweet and refreshing sauce soaked into the rice, making it extremely delicious! When sprinkled with sansho pepper, the refreshing aroma enhanced the umami, making it even more delicious. Although we didn't order extra rice, it seems like they offer free extra rice. After eating about a third of it, we realized that even the normal portion has a substantial volume! We enjoyed the fatty one and a half eels with beer until we were full, making it an amazing day. We lined up an hour before opening, but I think the national Unaju with this volume, flavor, and commitment for ¥3,520 in Tokyo is the best value! We will definitely visit again soon. ■ Nihonbashi Izumoya Tokyo, Chuo-ku, Nihonbashi Hon-ichome 3-3-4 3 minutes walk from Shin-Nihonbashi Station Exit 2 (297m) 3 minutes walk from Ginza Line Mitsukoshimae Station Exit A8 3 minutes walk from Hanzomon Line Mitsukoshimae Station Exit B1 7 minutes walk from JR Kanda Station South Exit ■ Business hours: [Mon-Sat] ・11:00-14:00 *Please enter by around 13:30 for lunch. ・17:00-21:30 (L.O. 20:30 Drink L.O. 21:00) *Special holidays on August 12, 2023 (Sat) and November 4, 2023 (Sat) ■ Regular holiday: Sundays, holidays ■ Payment: ・Cards accepted (VISA, Master, JCB, AMEX, Diners) ・Electronic money not accepted ・QR code payment not accepted

A popular eel restaurant near the Bank of Japan! They offer a lunch special where you can enjoy a 6,000 yen worth eel dish for only 3,520 yen, limited to 10 people. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it in time this time, so I ordered the "Kirin Eel Dish" and "Liver Sucking". The restaurant has a traditional atmosphere in Nihonbashi, and we dined on the second floor which was spacious and comfortable. The smell of eel filled the air inside the restaurant, and the service was excellent. After a short wait, the eel dish arrived beautifully arranged when we opened the lid. The first impression was beautiful! The eel was delicious even without adding sansho pepper. It was slightly sweet and had a gentle and addictive taste. When I tried it with a little bit of sansho pepper, it was even more delicious! This popular restaurant is always crowded even during weekday lunches, and it's understandable because of the delicious food. I hope to make it in time for the limited 10-person special next time!笑 It's a restaurant I want to visit regularly.

I'm a junior employee who could only take out my smartphone for the last eel rice dish at the banquet. It was a fun night, as it was my first experience with an all-eel course. Since I usually only eat eel rice, the lineup leading up to the final eel rice dish was very refreshing. Out of all the courses, only the young staff member at the counter and I managed to finish the eel rice dish to our satisfaction. I couldn't help but imagine whether those who called for the eel rice dish around the seventh course were happier... as I headed home.

I love eel and Izumoya seems to have a history of nearly 80 years. It is said that almost all customers are delighted with the eel dishes. Unfortunately, there were no private rooms available due to full reservations. The eel appetizers were elegant and perfect for sake pairing. The grilled eel liver was irresistible with a combination of bitterness from the sansho pepper and richness of the liver. The eel roll was a great match with the dashi flavor and the savory eel. The broiled eel with wasabi was a luxurious treat, with a light protein and fat content. I used to dislike broiled eel as a child, but now as an adult, I appreciate its flavor. The eel bowl needs no introduction, it was delicious. Both the Edo-style and Osaka-style were great, but the plumpness of the Edo-style was irresistible. I thoroughly enjoyed the liver sashimi and left the meal fully satisfied and full. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I arrived late to the 77-year-old eel restaurant in Nihonbashi, but luckily there was no wait. I had been working on painting the exterior of my house since early morning, and was extremely thirsty from the heat. I quickly drank a beer. The special limited items were sold out, so I ordered the regular eel dish with extra rice and no sauce. The flavor was not too sweet, which was perfect. The rice was soft, and I enjoyed it all in one go.

This eel restaurant, established in 1946, offers a special eel dish made with eels from Kyushu. The popular option is the "Bamboo" set, which is three-quarters of the regular portion and costs 3,300 yen, but it sells out quickly. I ordered one whole eel, a quarter portion called "Paulownia," and liver soup. The steamed eel, cooked in the Kanto style, is tender and melts in your mouth, with just the right amount of sauce. The sauce, with a hint of sweetness and a unique fish sauce, enhances the flavor of the eel. It goes perfectly with a sprinkle of sansho pepper. The rice is cooked to perfection, not too soft or too hard. The liver soup has a gentle bonito flavor and is lightly seasoned. The eel dish was elegant and incredibly delicious. It will help me get through the summer heat for a while.

I'm feeling a bit tired lately due to the recent heat, even though the rainy season hasn't ended yet. Before the full-on summer hits, I decided to recharge with some eel at "Izumoya" in Nihonbashi. My target was their limited edition eel set, limited to 10 servings. I arrived at 9:55 am, thinking that not many people would be lining up an hour before the 11 am opening. To my surprise, I was the 6th person in line, and even after exceeding the limited 10 servings, the line kept growing. It was a strange phenomenon. At 10:45 am, the staff came to take orders. The limited eel set costs 3,520 yen and comes with pickles and a choice of eel liver soup or red miso soup. The restaurant opened at 11 am, and I was seated in a section separated by brown curtains. After about 1 hour and 15 minutes of waiting, the eel set finally arrived. It consisted of one and a half eels neatly arranged in a lacquered box. The eel was thick with a strong presence. The sauce was subtly flavored, and the fat was well rendered. The eel was not too soft, providing a satisfying texture when eaten with rice. The portion was quite large, and I struggled to finish it towards the end. The staff provided excellent service, and the tea was refilled promptly. The limited eel and the regular eel may come from different sources. I had a delicious eel set at Izumoya in Mitsukoshi before, and it was amazing.

I visited for lunch without making a reservation. Initially went to the main building with tatami seating, but it was full so I went to the annex. The annex had mainly table seating and a casual atmosphere, making it easy to enter. The eel was fluffy and tender, without being too heavy, and it was delicious. I am satisfied.

Revisit 2023.07.01. Purpose of visit: In preparation for the upcoming "Midsummer Day of the Ox" event, I visited the restaurant again to enjoy their limited edition "Super High CP Eel Rice Bowl," which is normally not available. The purpose of the visit was to enjoy this unique dish. Restaurant Information: - Genre on Tabelog: Eel, Japanese cuisine, Rice Bowls - Established in 1946, a long-standing restaurant with a branch in Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi! - Selected as one of the Top 100 Eel Restaurants on Tabelog in 2022 - Business hours: 11:00-14:00, 17:00-21:30 - Closed on Sundays and holidays - Seating capacity: 70 seats Crowd and Atmosphere: - Upon arrival at around 09:55 on a weekday, there were 3 customers ahead of me, but by 10:30, the crowd had increased to 10 people. - Despite the narrow spaces between tables, the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Service: - The service was polite and attentive, following the standard procedures with some thoughtful touches. - Change was provided in crisp bills, as usual. Order: - Ebisu Beer (medium bottle) 825 yen - Rolled Omelette 880 yen - Limited Eel Rice Bowl 3,520 yen The limited eel rice bowl, priced at 3,520 yen, was a generous portion of thick and meaty grilled eel. The dish included 3 large pieces of eel, which was a great value for the price. The eel had a beautiful char without being burnt, and the rice was slightly firm with a well-balanced sweet and salty sauce. The option to add more sauce to suit personal taste was a nice touch. Despite opting for normal rice this time, I was satisfied and full by the end of the meal. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience. Thank you for the meal.

I visited "Nihonbashi Izumoya," which was selected for the "Tabelog Unagi Hyakumeiten 2022." This was their first selection in 2022. I arrived at the restaurant around 7:00 PM on a weekday. It seemed to be full, so they asked me to call back around 8:00 PM. I called at 8:00 PM and there was an available table, so I hurried over and arrived at the restaurant in about 5 minutes. I was seated right away. I ordered the "Unaju (Matsu)" and "Liver Sucking." The liver sucking did not come with the Unaju. The only difference in the Unaju was the portion size. After about 15 minutes, the dishes were served. The Unaju was plump and had a good thickness to it. It was fatty and full of flavor. It was cooked just right with a nice smoky taste. The sauce was slightly sweet. The pickled cucumber was delicious. I am curious about the course meals that can be enjoyed in the private rooms. Thank you for the meal. Ordered Items: Unaju (Matsu) - 4,620 yen (tax included) Liver Sucking - 440 yen (tax included) Rating Criteria: ~2.9: Not very tasty 3.0~: Tasty 3.5~: Very tasty 4.0~: Will revisit 4.5~: Will revisit and recommend to others Visit Date: June 29, 2023 (Thursday)

Continuing from last week, I headed towards "Nihonbashi Izumoya" after getting off at Kanda Station. Although the limited 10 servings of eel rice bowls sell out quickly upon opening at 11 am, I was able to visit around 1 pm without a reservation. Even a small amount of luxurious eel bowl makes me feel indulgent. The exterior of the restaurant is lovely, and the interior has a calming atmosphere. Oh, they have the same pig-shaped mosquito coil holder that I have at home, so I couldn't resist taking a picture. Yay! I sprinkled plenty of sansho pepper on top and enjoyed it! It's delicious, so fluffy and comforting. The sauce is light, allowing the taste of the eel to shine through. I devoured it in no time with the piping hot rice. The green tea and pickles have a refreshing color. The crunchy sound in my mouth is delightful. Indulging in a luxurious eel bowl at a long-established eel restaurant. Today, even after going to the gym, I feel relatively light. I'll do some shopping at Tokyo Station on my way back. Thank you for the meal.

Chuo Ward has many famous eel restaurants, especially around Muromachi, Kayabacho, Suitengu Shrine, and Tsukiji. Perhaps it's because eels used to be caught in the Sumida River, or maybe it's for good luck from places like Nihonbashi and Kanda Shrine. Despite deflation, the price of eel dishes keeps rising. It's no longer easy to have a casual eel lunch.
