Ogikubo's top three curry specialty shops on the classic route. If you want to enjoy a good balance of richness and spice, this is the place to go! I recently stopped by Ogikubo Station for some errands. When I used to live along the Chuo Line, the usual town scenery felt mundane, but now visiting from elsewhere, the variety of dining options feels very attractive. I visited this curry specialty shop near the west exit of Ogikubo Station. "Indian-style Curry Rice Spice" The interior is spacious and clean towards the back. The spice containers on display are abundant in variety, and I wished I had more time to look at them. It was relatively empty on weekdays, so I was relieved to easily get a seat, but customers kept coming in after me. I ordered the standard menu here in a half size. "Bone-in Chicken Curry (Petite Size) Night Limited (715 yen)" A reddish-yellow, smooth curry sauce. Despite being Indian-style, it felt like a well-balanced mix of richness from "chicken bones, beef bones, beef tendons, aromatic vegetables, etc., boiled for a long time (from the store pamphlet)" and the grainy texture of over 20 freshly ground spices right in the middle. Coriander was slightly prominent, but overall, the flavors were well harmonized. They mentioned that they thoroughly minimized the use of oil. The ingredients included one tenderly simmered chicken wing. "Keema-style Dry Curry (1380 yen) with Soft-Boiled Egg Topping (130 yen)" The Keema-style dry curry was moist and tongue-friendly, reminiscent of a moist meat sauce. This is a curry restaurant in Ogikubo. They mainly use Hokkaido ingredients, and they have various types of Okhotsk beer. I tried their limited-time whole beer. It had a hop aroma without bitterness, which paired well with the curry. The lamb and spinach curry were all delicious.

Visited on the weekend. The restaurant was full. It is one of the selected restaurants from the Tabelog Curry Top 100 in Ogikubo. There are three Tabelog Curry Top 100 restaurants in Tokyo, and this one is in Ogikubo. I thought it was a bit small from the outside, but the interior had depth and plenty of seats. The menu was extensive, but this time I ordered the "Japanese spinach and cottage cheese bone-in chicken curry." As indicated in the name, it was a "watery-style" curry, and you can choose the level of spiciness. It was a sharp curry without the use of European-style oil or wheat, rich in spices, and suitable for adults. I chose a medium spiciness level, which was sufficiently spicy, and the spinach balanced the heat well. The bone-in chicken was tender and delicious. It was a delicious curry with a sharp edge. There were many female customers dining alone, making it an easy place to visit. Highly recommended.

This curry is a refined and delicate taste that is the opposite of what Japanese people would imagine from a typical diner or soba shop curry. It's not very thick, and you don't feel much oiliness, but the rice goes well with the rich umami of the soup and the flavor of the spices. I finished it in no time. Thank you for the meal. There were many other menu items that caught my interest, so I would like to visit again.

Visited around 7:00 pm on a weekday. Luckily no line. Based on reviews, ordered the classic bone-in chicken curry. Asked for normal spiciness, which reminded me of India with just the right amount of heat. The tender chicken was delicious; I wanted about 4 pieces more! Will definitely revisit.

Inspired by a message from the owner, I experienced symptoms of a rare Spice Addiction Syndrome that occurs a few times a year. I arrived at the restaurant right at opening time on Saturday. I started with a limited edition Kolsch beer from Okhotsk to wet my throat. *gulp gulp* Ahh! I nibbled on cashew nuts before the curry. After many years, I ordered the spicy shrimp and green curry. Just as I was finishing my beer, the curry arrived. I waited a bit for it to be served. The curry sauce was thick and flavorful. It embraced the sharp spiciness perfectly. The refreshing heat from the green chili peppers was just right for summer! I wiped away my sweat and finished the dish in one go. Thank you for the meal. The shrimp and green curry I had after a long time had a refreshing spiciness that was perfect for summer!

The restaurant had high ratings on Tabelog, so we decided to visit. We started lining up 5 minutes before opening, and no one else followed. It was hot outside. We ordered the "King of Sheep" Southern Chicken Curry, Extreme Bone-in Chicken Curry, and Extreme Sweet Fruit Tomato Potage. The potage was served in about 5 minutes, with a good balance of sweetness and acidity. We enjoyed it. The curry arrived in about 20 minutes. The rice portion was quite generous, but we finished it all quickly. The sheep curry was decent, with the meat blending well with the sauce. The meat pieces were small but tender. Overall, it was very delicious.

It's only 2-3 minutes, so I decided to wait in line. Once the restaurant opened, I ordered the bone-in chicken curry for 1,280 yen, with an extra 70 yen for medium spiciness. The curry arrived with a generous amount of soupy sauce. When I tried the sauce first, it was a bit watery but very delicious! Mixing it with rice made it even better! The chicken wings were tender and juicy, making it easy to keep eating and eating. Ah, it was so delicious! This was really good. Ogikubo is a town that has restaurants like Tomato-san and Harukiya-san, offering gourmet food at prices similar to those in the heart of the city, which I find interesting. Thank you for the meal! I enjoyed the Keema-style dry curry with onsen tamago topping♪ The restaurant is located on Suzuran Street, just a 1-minute walk from stations like Ogikubo Station. I arrived about 5 minutes before the weekday opening time (11am) and was the second group in. I had the Keema-style dry curry with recommended onsen tamago topping at the counter seat. The curry had a refined spiciness, and mixing in the onsen tamago halfway through made the taste milder. Now I'm already torn between trying the gluten-free light and smooth curry next, or having the Keema-style dry curry again.

The aroma of spices hits you first, then you gradually feel the umami seeping in, and the aftertaste is refreshing. At first, it may seem a bit lacking in flavor, but it gets better gradually, resembling soup curry. The extra spicy option was quite hot, so unless you're really good with spicy food, it might be better to go for medium spicy. The rice is barley rice. It pairs well with the light curry, but personally, I would have been happier if they offered Indica rice. Ate it all while enjoying the cucumber and Fukujinzuke side dishes. The curry was delicious. However, maybe because I've been eating a lot of mixed curry lately, I got a bit tired of it midway. If there were vegetable toppings like tomatoes or onion pickles, it would have been enjoyable until the end. Well, satisfied with the taste. Thank you for the meal.

Located just a minute away from the south side of JR Ogikubo Station's west exit is a curry restaurant. I visited on a weekday afternoon and there was no wait, so I was seated immediately at the counter. Looking at the menu, it seems that the curries available for the day are marked with stickers. I ordered the Vegetable Curry priced at 1450 yen with spiciness level "normal". The vegetable curry was loaded with green beans, carrots, broccoli, enoki mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and more. The curry sauce was light and made with less oil, giving it a refreshing taste, but it was still rich in spices. It had a moderate level of spiciness, but I was sweating a lot when I left the restaurant haha. It was slightly different from my preferred curry taste, but it was still wonderful in its own way. Next time, I would like to try the "Ultimate Chicken Curry" haha. Thank you for the meal.

After reuniting with a friend from my school days after over 20 years, we visited a curry restaurant recommended enthusiastically by my friend who is crazy about curry and always eager to explore new places. As soon as we opened the door, the aroma of spices wafting through the restaurant assured me that we were in for a treat. We started with a toast with beer. Catching up on recent events, updates on our classmates, and reminiscing about the past, time flew by quickly, and we found ourselves nearing last call. For the finale, we ordered bone-in chicken curry. A plate with rice mixed with barley and plenty of curry. Opting for the extra spicy option, it was just the right level of spiciness, stopping just short of being too much. The dish consisted simply of chicken wings. The dry curry with a keema-like texture that my friend chose (topped with a hot spring egg) also looked delicious, so I hope to try that next time if the opportunity arises.

It had a simple appearance, and the curry sauce was light. I chose the normal level of spiciness, but it was actually quite spicy with a strong kick of spices. When another customer asked for medium spice, the staff mentioned that even the normal level is on the spicier side, which I understood. They mentioned that they simmer chicken bones, beef bones, beef tendons, and aromatic vegetables for a long time, resulting in a healthy and very flavorful dish. Although it was a bit pricey, I could feel their dedication to using ingredients without any oils, chemical seasonings, additives, or flour. I became interested in trying other menu items as well.

In the local area of Ogikubo, there is a famous restaurant known for its top three curries. Today, I visited one of them, Spice-san. I had the vegetable-rich curry that I love. The highlight was the enoki mushroom curry rice. As expected, the restaurant lives up to its name with its emphasis on spices! I used to think that curry restaurants create their own original curry powder by combining unique spices. But that's not the case, right? Although the curry rice is made with various spices, it didn't seem like they were making the curry themselves. I've learned something new today. It's all about the spices! Thank you for the meal. At Ogikubo's Indian-style curry restaurant Spice, there were available seats. While the standard (and reasonably priced) option was bone-in chicken curry, I decided to try something different from their diverse menu. I ordered the premium oyster curry (2,180 yen) which was ready in 5 minutes. The oysters were huge! They were satisfying to eat, tender, and delicious! Just these two large oysters alone could easily cost close to a thousand yen... The curry was thin like Indian curry, and although I asked for medium spiciness, it turned out surprisingly spicy.

The restaurant, located about a 3-minute walk from Ogikubo Station, has a calm atmosphere with a counter as the main seating option. ▪️Keema-style Dry Curry 1,380 yen + Onsen Tamago (hot spring egg) 130 yen While there are various curries based on beef, pork, chicken, and lamb, the menu indicates what is available on that day. I chose the Keema-style Dry Curry as I wanted something other than the usual curry consistency. The curry, generously filled with minced meat, was ordered with normal spiciness. It was somewhere between a regular medium-spicy and slightly spicier. I could taste various aspects of the dish in one plate - the flavor of spices, the texture of minced meat, and the sweetness of the topped onsen tamago. Despite it being my first visit, the homely service made me feel as if I had known the place for a long time. Although I rarely visit Ogikubo, I think it's worth coming back here just to enjoy their curry. I liked the taste as well as the atmosphere and the staff, so I plan to revisit this summer. I visited the restaurant around 7 pm on a weekday without having to wait and was seated at the counter. There was a notice at the storefront saying that they had fresh oysters today, which must have been a rare occurrence. Today, I had the following dishes: - Ripe tomato and spinach salad for 550 yen - Oyster chowder for 890 yen I was torn between the fresh oysters and the chowder, but I chose the chowder. The chowder had a white sauce with plenty of spinach and two large oysters. The purebred black pork curry with a small amount of rice for 2,280 yen was also ordered. The chowder was surprising as it had a lot of sauce and the curry was quite runny with a lot of sauce, which was a pleasant surprise for me as I like to have enough sauce to soak the rice. The meat was very fragrant and delicious as described. It was a bit pricey, but it was worth the value. Payment was cash only as they did not accept cards, but they had a PayPay option. I visited around 12 o'clock on Saturday. I ordered the oyster curry. As you can see, it has more of a soup curry vibe than traditional Indian curry. It's definitely on the pricier side. I've never seen oysters this big before. Probably the other dishes here give off a similar "this is something new" feeling. However, it is expensive. It's about twice the price of a regular Indian restaurant. As for the taste, well, the spices are there but it lacks the variety of flavors you'd find in typical Indian curry. Maybe it's just my taste buds. The rice was Japanese short-grain rice. If you ask, they might bring out some Indica saffron or something. For those expecting an "Indian-style" experience, it might be a bit underwhelming. After I entered, I noticed an older man with white hair in the back, doing some sort of office work. I saw a calculator, so it seemed like he was doing calculations. At first, I thought he was doing something after the customers finished eating, but he went into the kitchen after taking an order, so he seems to be affiliated with the restaurant. 12 o'clock is a time when customers come for lunch. I felt a bit odd about why he was doing this at that timing.

At 12:30 PM, at the south exit of Ogikubo Station. Head this way on Suzuran Street. Today, I had lunch in between moving with event items. I avoided unique and crowded places with strict rules. There are three curry shops around Ogikubo Station, but I decided to take a peek at this one, and it was empty (/・ω・)/ I was seated at the counter, placed my belongings on the next seat, hung my suit jacket behind me, and felt comfortable~♪ I ordered the following: Shrimp and Green Nanban Curry (1580 yen). Nanban refers to green chili peppers. I chose the normal level of spiciness. While exchanging work emails on my phone, the curry dish arrived. The shrimp and green chili peppers were submerged in a watery roux, visually disappointing, but the plump shrimp and the mild green chili peppers provided a nice touch. The medium-spicy roux wasn't very spicy at first, but it had a lingering heat that made it flavorful. As I enjoyed the curry, more customers started coming in one by one. After finishing my meal and having a cold drink, I continued working on my emails without feeling rushed to leave, enjoying a pleasant lunch break. After eating, I hopped on the Marunouchi Line to head to work~(* ̄∇ ̄)ノ Wait, you're saying this wasn't a foodie excursion? Just leave me alone~(-_-メ)
