After a month, I revisited my favorite ramen shop in Nishi-Koyama. I recently wrote down all my complaints, and it turned out to be a list of grievances. Today, despite being a favorite, I was disappointed because the soup was thinner than usual. The amount of soup that came with the noodles was clearly less, causing a quality issue. Additionally, the chashu was more tasteless than usual. It's unclear if the manual has changed or if it's an issue with the person preparing the food. Since the amount of soup varies each time, it's probably the latter. The sense of security and stability from before is now a thing of the past. With such inconsistency, the dissatisfaction becomes more apparent. The crab tsukemen is still delicious as ever, maintaining a high level of performance, but with the way things have been this year, I've given up on expecting the same level of quality as before. It might be a good opportunity to explore new favorite candidates and try out new places in Nishi-Koyama.

Ordered: Special crab ramen (thick noodles): 1,250 yen Extra rice: 200 yen Draft beer: 500 yen Total: 1,950 yen (including tax) West Koyama, now a fiercely competitive ramen district, had only a handful of ramen shops ten years ago. The first authentic ramen shop to open in West Koyama was "Menya Hyakushiki." I believe this shop played a significant role in shaping the ramen scene in West Koyama. While "Menya Hyakushiki" is known for its dipping noodles with crab, I opted for the limited-time menu item, the "Special Crab Ramen," as I was craving ramen that day. It was the right choice! Similar to the crab dipping noodles, the rich crab flavor was tantalizing. This is delicious! I couldn't resist ordering extra rice. It's a blessing to be able to enjoy authentic ramen in my neighborhood. West Koyama is a great town.

I visited the restaurant in the evening on a weekday. There were no customers when I arrived, but 5 minutes later, another person came in. The restaurant only had a counter facing the kitchen. I purchased the hot crab dipping ramen at the food ticket machine in the restaurant. There were 2 staff members, and one of them, who appeared to be a foreigner, assisted me. However, their voice was soft and a bit difficult to understand. I was asked about the noodle portion when I sat down, and I chose the regular size. The noodles were medium-thick and had a slight soba-like color. They were topped with seasoned seaweed and were quite soft, possibly because they were served hot. The dipping sauce had a strong crab flavor, which was quite unique. I also had toppings of bamboo shoots, chicken chashu, and pork chashu on a separate plate. Personally, I found the dipping sauce to be quite salty.

Today I had some errands in Nishi-Koyama. Before that, I stopped by "Menya Hyakushiki" in Nishi-Koyama and tried their Watarigani Tsukemen for 930 yen. The crab soup was rich and packed with crab flavor! It was delicious! As soon as the bowl arrived, the smell of crab filled the air. The soup was a bit thick, with some gritty crab bits lingering on the tongue, as if they had crushed the crab and made it into the soup. The noodles were medium-thick, smooth, and chewy. Nothing out of the ordinary, but satisfying. I dipped the medium-thick noodles generously in the rich soup, slurped them up, and the crab flavor spread in my mouth, smoothly sliding down my throat. It was delicious! The toppings included chicken chashu, pork chashu, and menma. The small counter-only shop was efficiently run by the staff, making the experience comfortable and enjoyable. Thank you for the meal.

Today I had some business in Nishi-Koyama. Before that, I had a meal at "Menya Hyakushiki" and tried their Crab Ramen with thick noodles for 900 yen. The soup was rich with plenty of crab flavor, truly unique! The chewy thick noodles were delicious too! Ah, it was so tasty! I got off at a station just before my usual stop. It was my first visit to the shop that had caught my eye. As soon as the bowl arrived, the smell of crab filled the air. I took a sip of the slightly sticky soup and tasted the rich crab flavor. This soup is truly one of a kind! You can choose between thick and thin noodles, and today I went with the thick noodles which were nice and chewy. When I slurped up the noodles with the soup, they coated well and the combination of crab flavor and chewy noodles spread in my mouth, it was delicious! The chashu came in two types, chicken and pork thigh, and the chicken was particularly juicy and tasty. Being able to enjoy so much crab at this price point makes it a great value. Thank you for the meal.

Taste: ★★★★☆ Portion: ★★★☆☆ Cost performance: ★★★★☆ You can eat ramen with unique flavors starting from 600 yen, which is relatively cheap compared to other ramen shops nowadays. I recommend the mixed soba with crab, which is a specialty here. While shrimp broth ramen is common, crab broth ramen is rare. The crab flavor is not overpowering but well-balanced and delicious.

I ordered the Taiwan Mazesoba (830 yen). The spiciness was not too strong, making it easy for even kids to eat. The combination of meat miso and seaweed was great, and the portion size was generous. However, the raw green onions, which played a major role in the flavor, started to become overwhelming as I continued eating. It may be a dish that green onion lovers would enjoy. Although we were seated promptly, the fact that the restaurant is run by just two people meant that the dishes took a bit longer to arrive.

I revisited this ramen shop located on Nikoma Street in front of Nishi-Koyama Station. This shop specializes in crab-based ramen, and at one point even had a sign saying it was a crab ramen specialty store. The crab dipping noodles I had last time were quite delicious. So this time, I decided to go with the crab mixed noodles (880 yen). The crab mixed noodles came with chashu, green onions, purple shallots, seaweed, raw egg, and more. The raw egg was the tricky part. When mixed in, the egg's flavor dominated the entire ramen, and I couldn't taste the crab at all. This was a menu fail. If they really want to use raw egg, they should serve it on the side as a flavor enhancer and include a note saying "adding raw egg will weaken the crab flavor." Thank you for the meal.

■Restaurant Name: Menya Hyakushiki ■Location: Nishi-Koyama Station ■Budget: Up to 1000 yen ■Ordered Menu: - Cold dipping noodles with crab I went to Nishi-Koyama to play basketball and found this restaurant on Nekoma Street. The interior has only 10 counter seats. At noon on a holiday, there were only two customers including myself, but more customers started to come in later. The location seems to attract customers easily. This time, I ordered the cold dipping noodles with crab. The noodles were thick and seemed to be made of whole wheat flour. They were thick like udon noodles and could hold the soup well. It took about 5 minutes to be served. As soon as it was served, a strong crab scent filled the air. The soup was not as thick as it looked, more on the watery side. A bit disappointing. It had a rich crab base with a slightly sweet taste. The toppings included chicken ham, chashu, green onions, and bamboo shoots. The table had pepper, chili oil, soy sauce, and vinegar as condiments. You can choose the amount of noodles, which is great for younger customers. I heard that their tantanmen (spicy sesame noodle) is delicious, so I would like to try that next time. Personally, I can't eat too much shrimp or crab, as I get tired of the taste towards the end. Overall, it was a decent bowl of noodles. Thank you for the meal. I will come back again.

In the past, there was a store with the same name near Meguro Station, and I loved the crab tsukemen on their menu. I noticed that the Meguro store was gone and found out there was a store with the same name in Nishi-Koyama, so I went there! (I'm not sure if it was related to the Meguro store) The tsukemen there had a strong crab flavor that I could really taste! The tantanmen that other people were eating also looked delicious... I'll try a different menu next time!

Sophisticated ramen dinner at Nishikoyama. Tonight's choice is Menya Hyakushiki! The shop has a refined interior and exterior design like a cafe. The background music in the store is jazz. I saw a crab-based ramen on Tabelog and wanted to try it, so I ordered the Special Crab Ramen with thick noodles. It cost 1250 yen including tax. The taste is like the sophisticated ramen that is popular these days, smooth and refined. The creamy soup has a good umami flavor. The thick noodles provide a satisfying chew, and the chicken chashu has a moist and smooth texture that is delicious. The pork chashu is also flavorful and tender. However, I couldn't taste the crab flavor in the ramen. It lacked the expected crab umami and crab meat, just a common sophisticated ramen. Maybe I should have tried the tsukemen or maze-soba instead. I don't think I'll revisit this place in Nishikoyama with so many other options. It was tasty, but somehow didn't meet my expectations. Thank you for the meal.

Delicious, but the crab flavor was not very noticeable. It was nice to be able to choose hot noodles from the ticket machine from the beginning. I got a little tired of eating a lot, so I added vinegar and chili oil for a change in flavor. It might be a waste of food, but if it makes it even more delicious, then it's good! I think it was the right choice because other customers also ordered hot noodles. The last soup was delicious. I usually can't finish the soup, but it was very tasty. The noodles were thick and satisfying to eat. I will come back again because there is a coupon. Thank you for the meal! See you again!

I revisited this ramen shop on Nikoma Street in Nishi-Koyama. It seems like the shop had changed into a crab ramen specialty store a while ago, but has now returned to its original state. Despite taking down the crab specialty store sign, most of the menu items are still crab-related. I remembered that the crab dipping sauce was the best among the four flavors when I had the dipping ramen with four different sauces last time, so I ordered the cold dipping ramen with swimming crab topping (880 yen) in a large portion (free of charge) this time. The noodles in the dipping ramen were thick and had a chewy texture similar to udon. The dipping sauce had a strong and rich crab flavor, which was quite delicious. The side dish included one slice each of pork and chicken chashu, menma, and green onions. At first, I enjoyed the crab flavor while eating. However, as I continued, the dipping sauce became monotonous in taste, and I gradually got tired of it. Additionally, it seemed like the noodles were not drained well, so the dipping sauce kept diluting. To solve these issues, it would be best to change the taste with something midway and try to remove as much moisture from the noodles as possible...easier said than done, I suppose. I ended up using the menma as a snack-like taste changer, but honestly, this menma was not that great. A good point was that when I added soup to the dipping sauce at the end, the crab flavor expanded and it became quite delicious. Since the shop is promoting crab, it would have been better to focus on crab like this time rather than the four different dipping sauces from last time. Thank you for the meal.

Visit on a Sunday afternoon. Originally planned to go to a nearby ramen shop, but the atmosphere was not great, so I escaped to this place. I had no prior information. I ordered the Special Crab Ramen without soup for 1,180 yen at the ticket machine. The chef seemed to be a bit understaffed as there was a slight delay from seating to ticket collection. The place was clean and the atmosphere was not bad. The combination of crab and ramen was not to my liking, it didn't quite match well. I regret not trying the regular ramen first. I wonder if it's worth looking forward to on my next visit.

I'm not particularly fond of crab meat, but I really like the broth. So, when I saw the words "Crab Ramen" on the entrance of the restaurant near Nishi-Koyama, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the thin noodles from the ticket machine and waited about 8 minutes for my bowl to arrive. I was expecting a light crab broth, but instead, I got a thick crab soup. It was interesting. The bowl came with chicken and pork chashu on top, which were quite tasty. I added some green onions from the separate plate, and it made the dish even better. The soup was quite strong and had a bit of bitterness, but it improved with the addition of green onions. I finished the bowl by adding some vinegar. For less than 1,000 yen, I was able to enjoy the richness and bitterness of the crab broth. It was a good experience, and if this restaurant was nearby, I might visit once every three months.

Tan-tan men is the best at this ramen shop with a wide variety of options. Shop Name: Menya Hyakushiki Nearest Station: 1 minute walk from Nishi-Koyama Station Recommendation: Tan-tan men! Tabelog Score: 3.41 Price: 1,000 yen! This shop in Nishi-Koyama serves delicious tan-tan men that keeps me coming back for more! They offer a wide variety of ramen options including soup-less tan-tan men, salt ramen, tsukemen, seafood tonkotsu, shoyu ramen, and more. Their ginger rice is also incredibly tasty. They provide a small rice for free with each bowl of ramen. The shop only has counter seats, but it is open from lunchtime until late at night, making it very convenient to visit. (Revisit on May 2, 2022) The weather was nice but the temperature was relatively low, so it felt a bit chilly. I had a feeling that I could easily eat hot ramen on this day. Two weeks ago, I came back to this place aiming for the free extra-large service for tsukemen. I was happy to see that they offer both hot and cold versions for all their tsukemen. This time, I decided to try the hot fish tsukemen priced at 830 yen (tax included). I picked up my ticket and sat in the front seat. Last time, there was a foreign staff member who seemed like a trainee, but this time it was a Japanese staff member. Do the staff members change daily here? I placed my ticket on the counter and asked for an extra-large size. The staff member, who seemed to be Japanese, made the tsukemen. Finally, the person who appeared to be the owner brought it to me. The aroma of the fish broth tickled my nose. The noodles were whole grain, just like last time. The cold tsukemen was served in a deep, flavorful plate, but the hot version came in a bowl, which made it hard to judge the volume of noodles. The broth was rich and full of fish flavor, coating the noodles nicely. The bowl with the broth was too hot to hold for more than a few seconds, so I had to use my hand towel as a base to eat. I dipped the hot noodles into the broth and took a bite. Both the noodles and broth were piping hot. The fish broth had a strong flavor and coated the noodles well. The bowl was so hot that I had to hold it carefully. I added some pepper and chili oil for a change in flavor. Then, I added bamboo shoots, green onions, pork, and chicken char siu to the broth and noodles. The broth suited my taste perfectly and was delicious. As I ate, the noodles quickly disappeared, but there was still plenty of broth left. It felt like a waste to leave it, but it was too concentrated to drink as it was. Unfortunately, there was no indication of a soup-wari (broth dilution) service, so I had to leave the remaining broth behind and leave the restaurant. I wish they paid a little more attention to this aspect. Also, although it may be due to using a dishwasher, the water droplets left in the cups bothered me. Thank you for the meal.

I visited this place for lunch today, as I had a good memory of the food from a previous visit during the night. The restaurant has recently started serving lunch from 11:00, so I arrived around 11:30. I decided to try the cold tantan tsukemen for 830 yen. The staff kindly offered a free choice of large serving, medium serving, or small rice, so I chose the large serving. The noodles were thick and made of whole wheat flour, and the broth was thick and flavorful with a strong sesame aroma. The toppings included bamboo shoots, roughly chopped green onions, and two types of pork chashu. The noodles were cooked perfectly and had a great texture. Overall, the dish was delicious and I enjoyed it. I would like to try other flavors in the future.

I visited around 1 pm on a weekday. The restaurant is located in a shopping street about 2-3 minutes walk from Nishi-Koyama station. It has a narrow entrance and a long counter with around 10 seats. It's unusual to have a sample display at the entrance. The interior is a bit stylish. There were 3 customers already there and 3-4 more came in later. The menu offers various options such as ramen, tsukemen, tantanmen, maze-soba, and mini donburi. I wasn't sure what the recommended dish was, so I chose the Taiwanese maze-soba and shiso water dumplings. The water dumplings were cute and well-prepared, in bite-size portions of 5. They were delicious and had a nice shiso flavor. The maze-soba had thick noodles with minced meat, chopped green onions, minced raw garlic, chopped seaweed, some kind of powder, and egg yolk. You mix everything well before eating. There was a good amount of green onions and the raw garlic gave it a strong spicy kick. The egg yolk was there, but the dish was still quite spicy and intense, more on the hard side. It wasn't the typical chili pepper spiciness, but rather the raw spiciness of garlic and onions. It was a unique Taiwanese maze-soba that suited my taste and I found it delicious. However, personally, I found it a bit too salty...

On March 17, 2022 (Thursday), I was near Nishi-Oyama Station for lunch. I visited "Menya Hyakushiki" for a meal. I arrived at the restaurant at the opening time of 11:00, but they weren't open yet. After waiting for a while, a foreign staff member came out from inside to start preparing for the opening. I chose the "Tantanmen (830 yen)" this time, and also requested the free half rice. Inside the restaurant, the owner was giving instructions to the new foreign staff member, teaching them things like how to play background music. The ramen arrived at 11:15, and it looked absolutely delicious. The soup was incredibly authentic and creamy with a nice level of spiciness. The nuts added a unique touch to the soup. The medium-thin straight noodles were cooked perfectly firm. Each ingredient had a great texture, from the nuts and ground meat to the finely chopped onions. I was so excited by the deliciousness that I quickly finished the meal, adding the half rice to the soup afterwards. Mixing it all together and eating it was a delightful experience. I left the restaurant fully satisfied. The closing music for this meal was "Hyakushiki" → "Shiki" → "shiki" → "shik"… ENTER SHIKARI!! Enter Shikari - Sorry You're Not A Winner (Official Music Video) https://youtu.be/P4MiC67seUY Thank you for the delicious meal!

Model number MSN-00100. An attack prototype mobile suit (MS) developed in a joint project between the AEUG and Anaheim Electronics, known as the "Zeta Project." Originally planned as a variable prototype under the code name "Delta Gundam," testing revealed durability issues with the movable frame design, leading to a redesign as an improved attack mobile suit, the "Hyaku Shiki." This ramen shop, named after the Hyaku Shiki, exudes a sense of golden brilliance upon entering! The shop features a counter extending towards the back, with seats separated by acrylic panels. After ordering the tantan tsukemen (830 yen), the soup arrives in a striking red color reminiscent of Char's personal colors. The noodles, made from whole wheat flour, have a visible outer layer and germ. Despite being thick, they are on the thinner side. The tantan soup offers a perfect balance of spiciness, rich broth, and sturdy noodles that complement it well. Toppings include chashu, menma, and green onions. The robustness of the noodles pairs excellently with the flavorful soup. Itadakimasu.
