We had a great time chatting about work and personal matters, but ended up spending over 7,000 yen each. It was not as affordable as we had hoped for.

I came here after about a year. I've moved and haven't been to Yushima for a while, spending time in other areas, but the toro-taku at Eizushi is still delicious! I visited a sushi izakaya in Ueno that my husband and I had tried to go to before. After a lunch meeting in Kyobashi, we decided to visit this place as our second stop! (3 people in the group) Ordered: - Fresh oysters - Ankimo (monkfish liver) with ponzu sauce - Bonito sashimi - Hokkigai (surf clam) - Assorted sashimi - Tempura octopus or squid - Grilled bamboo shoots - Grilled silver cod with miso - Fatty tuna roll - Tuna and cucumber roll - Rolled omelette - Three special dishes - Seared enoki mushrooms Drinks: Me: Beer followed by green tea highball Friend: Beer Husband: Oolong tea My husband also joined in from this restaurant! He was quite hungry as he hadn't had lunch, and my friend also eats a lot, so we ended up ordering a lot! This sushi izakaya was a great place to casually dine in. The bill was clear and everything was quite delicious. It was a Friday before Golden Week, so we couldn't make it to a third restaurant after this, but the place was already packed by around 7 pm. The fact that they are open all day is also a good point. I would like to visit again when I want to have seafood in Ueno.

A dominant sushi restaurant chain called 英鮨 has branches in Ueno and Okachimachi. The Ueno branch is a large restaurant with 67 seats. It is a place with nostalgic memories for many, as it is often visited by former bosses. It was bustling from New Year's Day. Since there are hardly any menu options other than fish, there may be few choices for children. The three types of shiny fish, horse mackerel, sardine, and herring were all delicious. The cooked whelk was also tasty. Because it was so busy, it took some time for the ordered food to be served. Drinks came relatively quickly. All the sushi looked delicious, but the shrimp was especially tasty, and the seaweed was also delicious.

We visited the restaurant with 4 people on Sunday at 5:30 pm. The staff seemed to be well-staffed, so we were able to order without waiting, which was great. We ordered a variety of dishes a la carte, such as live oysters, assorted sashimi, octopus tempura, squid tempura, cucumber pickles, monkfish liver ponzu, sardine sashimi, grilled sea bream head, and sushi and rolls. Although there wasn't anything particularly delicious, the timing of the food delivery and presentation were fine, typical of a casual sushi restaurant. However, I was a little disappointed by the lack of fat in the sardine sashimi, which felt a bit dry. Engisushi @ Ueno Hirokoji - After watching baseball, we, Tokyo Hormones, usually go to this place as the 4th or 5th spot, but this time it was the 2nd spot, so we were a bit careless and got scolded severely the next day by the strict foodie group B. Located about a 5-minute walk from Ueno-Okachimachi, this place stands out on a side street with a few shady shops around. Easy to spot as soon as you turn off Kasuga Street. Visited in the evening with no other customers at the time. Found a good seat with a clear view of the TV. Started thinking about the situation in Ukraine and wondered if Japanese people see it as a distant issue. It's similar to the disputes with China over Takeshima and the Senkaku Islands, I think. As soon as I sat down, the staff asked for my drink order, a common practice at this type of establishment. So those who have been here before quickly respond. Ordered a set with a Mirumidzuki green tea highball. The staff quickly realized we were returning customers and didn't pester us. A group of two who came in after us also quickly placed their order, which made me chuckle. For snacks, we had tuna sashimi (850 yen) with mostly lean meat but some parts had a nice fatty texture. The cold wakame seaweed in ponzu sauce (450 yen) was surprisingly delicious. The steamed pot dish with conger eel (850 yen) was a disappointment with bland broth. I was about to ask the staff, but my companion stopped me and added soy sauce to the pot. Made myself a hand-rolled sushi to lift my spirits. The horse mackerel tataki roll (350 yen) was a nice snack. I also enjoyed the shiso leaf roll (300 yen) with sesame oil and soy sauce. The eel nigiri (2 pieces for 300 yen) was not that great. In the end, the only things that stood out were the rolls and the wakame seaweed. Finished our bottle and will probably end up back at the Okachimachi branch. Though the snack menu there seems limited. Did they change after the renovation?

It's great to have a place where you can enjoy sushi while drinking casually, like at Sushizanmai. Eizushi, located in Shibuya, is just like that. I often visit this place and it's always a good time. The prices are cheaper than Sushizanmai, and the sushi is good quality, making it easy to enjoy. It's located right in the middle of a drinking district, so many people use it as a bar. I like to have a green tea highball and some sushi rolls while drinking. It's the perfect way to enjoy this place. On this day, I couldn't stop ordering sushi rolls and green tea highballs. I especially love the natto rolls. On New Year's Eve, we visited a sushi restaurant around 6:45 pm for the first gathering of the night. We were able to get in without waiting in line. I visited "Eizushi Ueno Store" around 12 o'clock on a certain day in March 2021. The restaurant is located about a 2-3 minute walk from Ueno-hirokoji Station. The cozy interior had about 7-8 customers already seated. I sat at the counter alone and ordered the "Lunch Nigiri 1.5 servings" for ¥900 from the lunch menu. I placed my order with a staff member who brought me tea, but it seemed like they didn't pass it on to the sushi chef. First, I was served chawanmushi, which I ate while waiting. The amount of ingredients in the sushi was moderate and easy to eat. After waiting for about 7-8 minutes, my order arrived. It included a satisfying portion of nigiri sushi and rolls with a bowl. There were 3 pieces each of kappa maki and tekka maki, which complemented the sushi well. The size of the nigiri sushi was just right. It was nice to have white fish and red fish, but it would have been even better with squid, octopus, or conger eel. The quality of the sea urchin was average. I felt like having some creamy, fresh sea urchin. I enjoyed alternating between the seaweed and green onion in the bowl while savoring the sushi. The tamago nigiri had a good texture and was satisfying to eat. For ¥900, the sushi lunch set with chawanmushi and a bowl offered a good value. "Eizushi" offers sushi of decent quality in a satisfying portion for lunch.

Before the meeting, I stopped by for a quick bite of sushi. The casual sushi restaurant in the neighborhood was easy to enter, which was convenient. I ordered 1.5 servings of lunch sushi. It came with chawanmushi and miso soup, which was a good deal for the price. The tuna was decent with a firm texture. The shrimp was small, similar to the ones commonly seen in sushi restaurants, priced at 100 yen each. The seasonal fish, herring, was a nice addition. However, the sardine had a slightly yellowish and cloudy appearance, with a questionable smell. It was a bit risky to try. The octopus was lacking in flavor and had a soft texture, possibly due to insufficient boiling. As for the sea urchin, it was a nice touch to include it in a lunch set at this price, but it had a very subtle taste, similar to steamed sea urchin from Chile. The chawanmushi was lukewarm, almost cold, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, it was cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Around 12:30 on a regular day. Due to the influence of the coronavirus, there were hardly any customers. I added 2 pieces of seared fatty tuna and 1 piece of shirako to the set menu. It was disappointing that the chawanmushi was cold (not served warm). The sushi was delicious. The vinegared rice was slightly sweet and the rice was a bit compact. There seems to be a wide variety of appetizer menu options, and it seems like you can enjoy them at a reasonable price.

After work, I came to the restaurant with my colleagues. The state of emergency has been lifted and the streets are starting to get crowded with people. The restaurant was also quite busy. It seems like everyone wants to eat sushi. We were seated at a table and I ordered flounder sashimi, simmered flounder, engawa nigiri, torotaku hosomaki, uni gunkan, and manako. The simmered flounder and tofu were delicious, with the flavors soaking in perfectly. The staff were all friendly and provided good service. It's a bit disappointing that there were not many options for alcohol. I will definitely go back again!

We visited this restaurant on a holiday night with two people. After having a course meal, we wanted to have some drinks and enjoy some sushi as a light snack to finish off the night. If you want to enjoy sushi, this place is great for both cost and taste. You can have delicious sushi and drink alcohol. Delicious sushi with alcohol is the best. Uni sashimi is a must-try. The combination of uni and cucumber wrapped in seaweed is incredibly delicious. I couldn't resist getting seconds. The ikura is large and tasty, with no fishy smell.

I gave up on the long line at the curry restaurant I was originally planning to go to and ended up here (laughs). It was my first time having lunch here, and it turned out to be a great choice! The lunch set with sushi was 1.5 servings for 900 yen, and it came with miso soup and a small side dish, so it was very filling! If the customer service from the older gentleman was a bit friendlier, I feel like this place would be even more popular (laughs).
