二日酔い飯
Hakata Yakiniku Genpukan Ryudomo, a hangover meal for the second day. I was watching TV and they were talking about a popular yakiniku restaurant in Fukuoka called "Genpukan". I felt like I had seen it somewhere before, so I decided to look it up and found out that there is also one in Roppongi! No wonder I felt like I had seen it somewhere before. Since I had never been there before and the TV feature made the food look delicious, I decided to give it a try. They say the spicy sauce is addictive. When I arrived, only outdoor seats were available. A terrace seat - how nice! It's hot outside and I'm going to eat something hot and spicy. Sounds good, right? I prepared myself to sweat and chose an outdoor terrace seat.
Highlighted Menu Items:
- Wagyu Kalbi 1580 yen
- Wagyu Sirloin 1680 yen
- Nakaochi Kalbi 1480 yen
- Harami 1780 yen
You can choose the level of spiciness for the sauce, with options like "mild", "moderate", "standard", "Chiyomachi", and "deathly spicy". I heard that Chiyomachi has the same spiciness as the original store. I think you can also order the "deathly spicy" option for a slightly higher price. Since it was a special occasion, I ordered all of them with the Chiyomachi spiciness level.
A La Carte:
First, I gulped down a beer to cool off - Tan Negi (1850 yen). Look at the amount of green onions! The tongue is also large. The cooking instructions are written here! First, grill one side as usual, fold it in half to wrap the green onions, grill it a little more, and squeeze some lemon on top. It seems simple when written like this, but it's actually quite tricky! After dropping a lot of green onions, I finally tried the completed dish and it was delicious! The tender tongue and steamed green onions go perfectly together.
- Wagyu Sirloin (1850 yen): It looks spicy! But when I grilled it and tasted it... delicious. But spicy! Hmm, I see. It's spicy but still quite edible. It might actually be just right. Ah, I can see why it's an addictive taste. The beer keeps flowing.
- Harami (860 yen), Nakaochi Kalbi (1630 yen), Mino (1080 yen): The Mino also has the same seasoning when grilled with the sauce. The Harami has a good flavor. The balance of oiliness and the spicy and delicious sauce is perfect.
- Rice with Egg Sauce: Of course, rice goes well with it. Although beer was the usual choice with yakiniku, this spicy and delicious sauce goes perfectly with rice. I easily finish a medium serving of rice. And the other delicious thing is the egg sauce. Dip it in there and the spiciness is mellowed out.
- Wagyu Kalbi (1740 yen): I felt like I could eat a little more, so I added the Kalbi.
- Dragon Shaved Ice Dessert: What should I have for dessert? I decided on the Dragon Shaved Ice. They warned me that it was a lot, but I ordered it anyway and it was indeed huge! The condensed milk and strawberry sauce were delicious.
Overall, it was a great meal! Eating hot and spicy food in the heat made me gradually start sweating. I wonder what the principle behind that is, whether my body is getting used to it. I thought I would be sweating a lot, but that didn't happen at all. Maybe the beer and shaved ice helped. Well, it's no wonder it's a popular restaurant in Fukuoka. Watching it on TV and coming here was a good decision!
