This time, I experienced takeout at "La Vieille France Main Store (LAVIEILLEFRANCE)", located about an 8-minute walk from Chitose-Karasuyama Station on the Keio Line. This renowned restaurant has been selected multiple times as one of the "Top 100 Sweets in Tokyo" on Tabelog. During my visit, only takeout was available and pets were not allowed. The exterior exudes a charming atmosphere reminiscent of France. The opening hours during my visit were from 10:30 to 19:00 (Wednesdays only open from 11:00 to 16:00), with Thursdays being the regular closing day. There were no other customers during my visit, allowing me to leisurely make my selection. The name "La Vieille France" means "Old Nostalgic France" and at this shop founded in Paris in 1843, they offer authentic French pastries such as cakes, macarons, jams, and baked goods learned under the tutelage of the renowned pastry chef Rene Erma Besier. The showcase was filled with cakes, pastries, bread, tarts, assorted chocolates, brownies, and more. I ended up purchasing 4 cakes and a brownie after much contemplation. The first cake was "Gâteau Marjolaine" (¥630 tax included), featuring homemade hazelnut praline mousse and cream sandwiched between almond and hazelnut shu cream. It had a subtle sweetness with a chestnut-like aroma and rich hazelnut flavor. The second cake was "Georges Sand" (¥630 tax included), with layers of almond chocolate sponge and strawberry ganache, topped with strawberry jam and strawberries. The combination of rich almond flavor and sweet-sour taste of strawberries was exquisite, although I personally wished for a bit less chocolate sponge. The third cake was "Trois Chocolats" (¥630 tax included), with milk and bitter chocolate white chocolate mousse layered on sable crumbs, drizzled with bitter chocolate and decorated with macarons. The mildness of milk, bitterness of dark chocolate, and smooth texture of white chocolate mousse were all top-notch. The fourth cake was "Pistachio & Strawberry Millefeuille" (¥660 tax included), featuring crispy baked pastry with layers of strawberry jam, rich pistachio cream, and strawberry cream. The rich flavor of pistachio and the balance of strawberry's acidity and sweetness matched perfectly. The fifth sweet was a "Brownie" (¥450 tax included), with a rich chocolate batter and pecans. This moist and flavorful brownie with a rich chocolate taste and nutty pecans was the best I have ever had, competing for the top spot among all I've tried. As a brownie lover, I was thoroughly satisfied. Thank you for the meal. Payment was accepted in cash or PayPay.
