Visited "Pan-ya Donosuke" in Higashi Shinjuku. It's a popular bakery hidden in a corner of Higashi Shinjuku. I had been curious about this place since I found out about it, but I always missed out as they were sold out and closed by the time I got there. This time, I decided to visit early. Stepping in through the traditional curtain, I felt a sense of accomplishment as I had been turned away a few times before. The shop is small but filled with delicious looking bread. The unique bamboo tray presentation added to the charm and raised my expectations. Payment is cash only, and they do not provide receipts at the moment. Here's what I took home: - Daily pizza (270 yen tax included): The bread was soft and amazing. It stood out among the other breads I've had recently. The tomato-based sauce was flavorful, with plenty of vegetables like spinach. The bacon was of high quality and added a nice touch. - Homemade curry bun (238 yen tax included): Another soft bread with a unique curry bun characteristic. The combination of pork and beef curry filling was exquisite. Truly a delicious curry bun! - Red bean bun (162 yen tax included): The filling and smoothness of the red bean paste was evident from the cross-section. The refined sweetness spread throughout my mouth with each bite. This was a classic red bean bun, and it was truly delicious. Overall, it was a very delicious bakery. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. Now I understand why it was always sold out when I tried to visit. Personally, this is now my number one bakery. It was really delicious. I will definitely be visiting again. Thank you for the meal.

It's just past 11 am on a regular day. I went to get lunch. There was no line outside, but customers were coming in one after another. The small shop with a capacity of 6 people was always full. I got a Menchi Katsu sandwich for 324 yen. It's on the pricier side at this shop. It was heavy and when weighed, it was 150g. The sandwich had minced meat soaked in sauce and a bit of cabbage between two small buns, making it very satisfying to eat. It was mostly Menchi Katsu. The Onion Cheese Bread for 524 yen was also available in a half size. I got the full size. It had cheese, bacon, and onion slices, and was very delicious with a salty taste. The Juicy Wiener Bread for 256 yen is a must-have as well. The shop is always filled with freshly baked bread.

■Shop Information Located in Higashi-Shinjuku, "Panya Don Suke" is a bakery that I had been wanting to visit for a while but never had the chance until now. The unique feature of this place is that it feels more like a local neighborhood bakery rather than a trendy one. The prices range from 150 yen to 400 yen, making it affordable and accessible. It's recommended to go early as they tend to run out of items by around 2 pm. ■Items Tried - Croquette Bread ¥238 - Black Sesame Red Bean Bun (Cat's Paw) ¥162 👍 - Pecan Nut and Coffee Soft Bread ¥248 👍 - Kinako (Roasted Soybean Flour) Sandwich ¥162 - Avocado & Shrimp Bread ¥389 👍 All the bread here has a chewy texture, and the fillings are generous, making you quite full. Personal favorites were the Black Sesame Red Bean Bun, which had a nice balance of sweetness, and the Avocado & Shrimp Bread, which had a delicious ethnic flavor. Overall, I think it's a great bakery. On the Instagram account "Tokyo Lunch Eats by a Certain Guy" with 70,000 followers, they are introducing delicious food from Tokyo and various regions across Japan! I visited "Pan-ya no DonSuke" in Higashi-Shinjuku on my way back from Shinjuku, a bakery that has been selected as one of the top 100 bakeries in 2022, 2020, and 2019. It was my first time here. It's 9:30 am and there are no customers yet (although there were about 3 groups by the time I left). The shop mainly offers sweet bread and savory bread. I asked the female staff for recommendations, and she suggested the popular items. I chose the following: "Juicy Wiener Bread" (270 yen) - freshly baked, "Coconut and Peanut Banana Tart" (259 yen), and "Cat's Paw Sesame Red Bean Bun" (162 yen) - the most popular item. The total came to 691 yen including tax (paid in cash). [Food] "Juicy Wiener Bread" (270 yen) - Rating: 3.8 Toasted for 4 minutes in a toaster. The juicy wiener and tomato filling were delicious. The small amount of sliced onion added a nice touch. Definitely a juicy wiener bread and very reasonably priced at 270 yen. "Coconut and Peanut Banana Tart" (259 yen) - Rating: 3.3 Chilled slightly in the refrigerator. The tart has chunks of banana. The banana flavor was stronger than expected. The base of the tart is made with peanuts. It has a mild sweetness. "Cat's Paw Sesame Red Bean Bun" (162 yen) - Rating: 3.5 The thin skin is filled with a generous amount of red bean paste. The paste has a smooth texture with a strong sesame flavor. The bread is thin but soft and wraps around the filling nicely. A good supporting bread. Overall, even when eaten the next day, the sweet and savory breads were enjoyable. It's understandable why there are many repeat customers. However, for those who want to purely savor the taste of bread, this might not be the best option.

This bakery, which has about 10 of my favorite reviewers visiting, has been on my list to visit for about 2 years now. Finally, this morning on August 5th (Saturday) around 9:20 am, I was able to visit. It is located a 5-minute walk from Higashi-Shinjuku Station A2 exit, or on the right side down the slope past the FamilyMart from the Nuke Benten side. The atmosphere of this bakery gives off a local community feel from the exterior. There were about 5 people waiting, and there is a limit of 6 people inside the store. With 2 staff members at the register, the turnover seems very quick. I refrained from taking photos inside the bakery as I knew their policy. When I entered, the interior was small, and even though it was only 9:20 am, the number of breads available was surprisingly limited. There were only about 15 varieties, but I heard from the staff that normally there would be double that amount. The conversation between the staff and customers indicated that many people come early in the morning and things sell out quickly, so I understood the limited selection. Here are the items I tried: - Apricot and Cream Cheese Grape Bread ($2.26): It had a variety of ingredients, with plenty of sliced nuts and two slices of apricot dried fruits that retained a hint of acidity. It was a perfect combination with the cream cheese and grapes, which were all favorite ingredients of mine. - Cheese Bagel ($2.16): The dough was soft and chewy with a milky texture. It was delicious even without heating, but warming it up would probably enhance the flavor. There were 4-5 cheese cubes inside, which could have been a bit more, but considering the price, it was reasonable. It was a satisfying bagel. - Cinnamon Roll ($2.48): A large cinnamon roll with plenty of walnuts. The center had a cream similar to lemon cream, which had a slight acidity that matched well with the cinnamon aroma and the sweetness of the dough. It was a filling and delicious treat. - Homemade Pudding ($2.59): The label mentioned that they used milk from Tanahata Dairy for the pudding, which was reassuring. The pudding was rich and creamy, with a nice touch of vanilla bean fragrance. The caramel part was slightly bitter, making it a sophisticated dessert. It was a bit challenging to carry without spilling the caramel, but it was a treat that would be appreciated as a gift. All the breads were delicious, but the highlight of the day might have been the pudding. I look forward to revisiting during a different time when they have meal-type breads and hard breads available. Thank you for the meal!

This shop is a well-known hidden gem located in a residential area about 4-5 minutes from Higashi-Shinjuku, and it is a popular shop where people line up from early in the morning on Saturdays. On this day, my husband, who is even more obsessed with Don Suke than I am, happily went out early on Saturday morning to buy bread from this shop again. However, by the time he arrived around 11 am, many items were already sold out. He managed to buy a bread with blueberry whipped cream, an olive bread, and a large onion cheese bread. By the way, the large onion cheese bread he bought for the first time on this day was incredibly delicious when we lightly toasted it at home with a Balmuda toaster. The outside was crispy, the inside was soft and moist, with chunks of cheese scattered throughout, and topped with plenty of cheese, onion slices, and bacon. It was truly amazingly delicious! Although it was quite large, it was so tasty that one person could eat it all in one go. Don Suke's bread, in general, is delicious, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable, considering it's in Shinjuku. My husband's favorite large sausage bread (juicy sausage with slightly sweet fluffy bread) and the Calpis butter bread (hard bread with a strong Calpis butter flavor, similar to a milk French toast) are also incredibly delicious. However, they are often sold out due to their popularity. Additionally, the various Danish-style savory breads are also very tasty. The sweet dessert items like cream-filled coronets in the refrigerated section are also to my liking with their refined sweetness. Please note that the lineup of breads changes depending on the time of day, so you may not be able to buy the same items you enjoyed last time. It's fun to visit in the morning and see the different types of bread being baked one after another, so you can choose from what's available at that time. I also want to wake up early and go shopping again on Saturday, as they tend to sell out quickly in the morning (especially if you want to choose from a wide variety of breads, I recommend going early on Saturdays).

On the third day of using the 18-kippu, I was thinking about which famous shop to visit. I considered Chiba and Saitama, but decided to focus on the Tokyo area. So, I headed to Hedon Suke in Shinjuku. It's about a 10-minute walk from Shin-Okubo Station. Despite the crowds, I was able to enter the shop quickly. I bought sesame red bean bread, okonomiyaki bread, and lemon tart. The sesame red bean bread was very heavy with sesame and red bean. The okonomiyaki bread had a nice balance between the thin bread and the flavors of okonomiyaki. As for the lemon tart, it could be considered a good dessert option as well. I think this shop offers affordable and down-to-earth bread, which is rare in Tokyo.

On a weekday after 10 am, I finished my errands in the Wakamatsu Kawata area and went to get lunch. I turned right from Shokuan-dori, went down Kyuzaimon-zaka, and after a while, I found Don Suke, a bakery. I had missed it a few times due to changes in business hours (recently closed on Tuesdays as well), but finally made it today. They had a variety of bread, mainly savory, displayed with some coming out fresh from the kitchen. The store had a limit of 6 people inside, and once 6 people were in, it was already full. A foreign family was also enjoying shopping. There was no line outside, but the store was packed. Customers were buying Juicy Wiener Bread for 256 yen each x 3, Butter Nut Bread for 150 yen, Apricot and Cream Cheese Grape Bread for 226 yen, and Sesame Red Bean Bread in the shape of a cat's paw for 150 yen. The Juicy Wiener Bread was generously filled with tomato sauce and melted cheese, like a mini pizza. The large wiener inside burst with juice when bitten into, providing a satisfying eating experience. One was enough to feel full, and the rest were saved for snacks. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the store while running errands nearby. I arrived early in the morning and was able to enter without waiting in line, but the store was always crowded with a maximum of 6 people inside. Since they had a good selection of tarts at that time, I had a hard time choosing and ended up selecting three. I also bought my usual favorites, melon pan and freshly baked anpan, as well as some side dish bread. They didn't have baguettes or sandwich bread available yet, so I had to give up on those.

I revisited the popular bread shop, Pan-ya no Donosuke in Higashi-Shinjuku! This is my third visit and I have always been well taken care of here! Located a short walk from Higashi-Shinjuku Station, in a quiet area, this shop offers delicious breads! Each bread is tasty without being overly decorated or sharp, which I like. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

Located about a 5-minute walk from Higashi-Shinjuku Station, this bakery, Don Suke from Pan-ya, has a cozy neighborhood feel rather than the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku. The most popular item is the "Cat's Paw" sesame red bean bun priced at 150 yen. While some may see a cat's paw, I personally saw a stone, but the simple flavor made it the number one choice. The buttery potato bun at 183 yen and the small and easy-to-eat melon bun at 150 yen are also worth trying. I also picked up the teriyaki chicken and green onion pizza at 259 yen to try something different. Overall, the bakery offers a variety of delicious bread, but it may not be immediately clear what makes it a top 100 bakery. Many reviews highlight the bakery's affordability, with prices starting from 100 yen, making it a popular choice for locals in Shinjuku. However, for visitors like myself traveling from Yokohama, the appeal may not be as high. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my visit and finished all four bread items, pondering what sets this bakery apart as a top 100 choice.

The bakery in Higashi-Shinjuku is a popular spot. When I went there around 2 o'clock on Saturday, there was only one bread left, and the shop closed as soon as I left. I bought the remaining madeleine, which had a Japanese-style shape and a delicious buttery aroma. I would like to try other breads next time.

The directions were easy to follow and we arrived quickly. Coming out of Shinjuku Station, there is a bus stop right in front, and a Seven Eleven on the left. Walk straight along the road and then turn left. The most popular item is the black sesame red bean bun! I bought it right away, as black sesame red bean buns are not easy to find and quite special. Usually, red bean buns have beans on top, but this one had a sesame flavor and was delicious. It felt like eating a sesame dumpling. I wanted to eat the onion bread hot, and even when it cooled down, it was still tasty. The bakery, Don Suke, located a 4-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, has a great sense of naming. The staff inside were friendly, and I wanted to try the half portion of the onion bread. They quickly cut it with a knife, packed it for me, and it was freshly baked and hot! It gave me the feeling of a local bakery!

Visited on June 17, 2023 (Saturday) at 10:12. There were about 5 customers in the store, so I was able to enter immediately. I bought a Sesame Red Bean Bun (150 yen + tax) and a Juicy Wiener Bun (259 yen + tax). ○ Sesame Red Bean Bun A red bean bun with plenty of sesame. It's a bit small, but the red bean filling is firm and the price is quite reasonable. ○ Juicy Wiener Bun A very thick wiener bun with meat juice overflowing as the name suggests. The mayonnaise on the surface is also plentiful, and it was very delicious.

I went to Higashi Shinjuku, which is not a great area, but I had some time before my appointment so I decided to check it out! I couldn't make a reservation, so I was nervous, but I managed to get a big Campanile nugget! I don't know what the specialty is, but I want to try it again!

When you pass through the noren curtain, you will find a cozy little bakery called Donosuke. The bread here is delicious and affordable! I tried the croissant for 183 yen and the chocolate bread for 216 yen. The croissant had a crispy texture with a buttery aroma. The chocolate bread had a refined scent of caramelized almonds on top. The quality of these pastries at this price point is excellent value for money.

Visited solo on a holiday. A bakery located about a 5-minute walk from Higashi-Shinjuku Station. Known for offering unique and delicious bread at a reasonable price, this shop is popular among urban ladies, despite being located on a side street. Winner of the Bread Top 100 award. Visited around 11:30 am on a Saturday. Even in bad weather, there were already 5 ladies waiting in line. Shortly after, another 5 ladies formed a line behind me. Truly a popular spot! Entered the shop after waiting for about 5-6 minutes. The shop is quite small, about 7-8 tatami mats in size. There are bread shelves in the center and on the sides, with a wide variety of bread ranging from savory to sweet, from basic to creative. After much deliberation, I ordered the pecan nut and coffee soft bread, and the potato and cheese bread. The next morning, I tried them. The former had a fluffy and moist dough with pecan nuts generously mixed in coffee cream. The cream had a good balance of sweetness and bitterness, satisfying both kids and adults. The latter had a whole potato inside, covered with mayonnaise and cheese on top, providing a satisfying bite. It would have been even more delicious if I had heated it up, but oh well. Apart from the bread I purchased, there are still many more intriguing options like hojicha chocolate bread and sesame red bean bun. If only it were a bit closer. Thank you for the meal. I will come again.

I visited the bakery on Saturday morning before noon. Despite the light rain, the place was crowded and seemed quite popular. Even though it was still morning, there were empty spaces on the shelves where the bread was displayed. I bought four cheese and honey focaccia, cheese curry bread, soft bread with dried strawberries and chocolate, pizza bread, and mentaiko cheese to share with my family. I tried the four cheese and honey focaccia and the mentaiko cheese, and they were both delicious. The focaccia had a wonderful harmony of cheese richness and saltiness with the sweetness of honey, similar to a quattro formaggi pizza. The mentaiko cheese had a chewy mochi texture with the classic combination of mentaiko and seaweed. It was delicious! My family also enjoyed the other bread we tried. Thank you for the meal!

Located in a corner of a residential area one street in from the main Abutendori Street, near Higashi-Shinjuku Station. Cream Horn for 216 yen was the best. The pastry was crispy, the cream was rich and delicious with just the right amount of sweetness. The crispy texture on the edges was also good. Donut for 150 yen had a nice aroma when the bag was opened. The texture was moist and delicious. Peanut for 150 yen had a chewy texture. The delicious taste and cost performance are understandable given the high ratings. I want to try other breads as well.
