I ordered the grilled chicken liver with rock salt and the "Kogane Udon Special." The portion was generous, and I left feeling satisfied. The tempura in the "Special" was thick and juicy, with a light batter. I think this place is great for a first or second round of drinks, and if they expand their menu, they'll likely attract even more customers due to their convenient location on a main street.

This time, I visited a udon restaurant in Ebisu where you can enjoy the taste of authentic Sanuki udon. The location is a 5-minute walk from Ebisu Station East Exit on the JR Yamanote Line, Saikyo Line, and Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. The business hours are Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 18:00 for self-service udon, and from 18:00 to 23:00 for izakaya. On Saturdays and Sundays, the hours are from 11:00 to 15:00 for self-service udon, and from 18:00 to 23:00 for izakaya. I visited alone around 15:00 on a weekday. There is a ticket machine at the entrance (verbal orders for izakaya at night). The menu mainly shows prices for small size, with variations in price based on the amount of noodles. I ordered the Meat Tamago Bukkake (890 yen) in cold udon. The presentation of the Meat Tamago Bukkake looked very appetizing with plenty of toppings, and the noodles were chewy and delicious. The taste was excellent, as expected from authentic Sanuki bukkake udon. The broth and udon were incredibly tasty, and the noodles had a great texture. The meat was sweet and paired well with the broth, lemon, grated radish, and soft-boiled egg, creating a delicious combination. It was a truly enjoyable meal, and I will definitely visit again.

Located about 5-6 minutes from Ebisu Station, this shop uses a food ticket system. They also accept electronic money, which is convenient. On a very hot day, I ordered the "Zaru Udon Small (510 yen)" and "Shrimp Tempura (180 yen)". Tempura is a flat rate of 180 yen. The udon noodles were firm and chewy, with a nice elasticity. They were delicious dipped in the flavorful broth. Each bite had a hint of sweetness, which was enjoyable. I ordered the small size, which was just the right amount for me. I will definitely be coming back again!

Kakeko Somenori Toriten is a restaurant located in Zentsuji City, Kagawa Prefecture, with main stores in Tokyo at Ebisu and Morishita. They operate on a ticket system and offer a variety of onigiri and tempura. Their Sanuki udon has a firm texture and is served in a refreshing cold broth. I have a better impression of them compared to the more widespread Hanamaru and Marugame chains.

I was hungry, so I got the medium size with 1.5 servings. The noodles were delicious, with a firm texture and a nice aroma. They were made with flour, salt, water, and boiled to perfection, not too soft but just right. Next, I dipped the noodles in the broth and was pleasantly surprised by the strong flavor. It wasn't too salty or dominated by soy sauce, but had a rich taste that was just right. I also added extra green onions, which had a nice spicy kick and aroma. I usually go to a popular udon chain nearby once a week and load up my bowl with extra green onions, but since it was my first time here, I held back. Next time, I'll try the warm udon. I used it for lunch during work. You order the main dish like udon with a food ticket, and you can take toppings like tempura from the counter yourself. We went with 4 people after 1 pm and were able to sit without waiting, but since the seats are mainly for 1 or 2 people, I thought there might be a wait for larger groups! It's convenient for a quick lunch when you're short on time. It was delicious.

I use ranch about once a week. It's about a 5-minute walk from the station, and the fact that you can choose your favorite tempura is attractive. Every time I order 3 pieces of tempura, I get full, so I think I'll go for 2 next time! But I always fail because when I see the delicious tempura in front of me, I can't resist. The vegetable tempura is my favorite among the tempura. The shrimp tempura is also big and satisfying to eat.

The lemon is especially wonderful. It's very refreshing for the hot season. If you add extra noodles or tempura or rice balls, the price can add up, but I think it's understandable in this day and age. The taste of the udon is reliable, so I would like to visit again.

Now, let's dig in! First, the chicken tempura. Even though it had cooled down, it was still delicious and quite large. Next, the meat udon. I had meat udon, and the meat was plentiful, the broth was delicious, and there was a generous amount of noodles, so I enjoyed it. I unexpectedly found authentic Sanuki udon in Ebisu. I ordered the cold bukkake udon. Since it was still early and not many people were there, the udon seemed to have been sitting for a while after being boiled. However, it still had the essence of Sanuki udon and was delicious. I visited around 2:30 PM, and there was only one other customer. I purchased the "Oroshi Bukkake Udon" from the ticket machine inside the restaurant. Since it is self-service, there is a variety of side dishes like tempura and onigiri lined up. You can also choose tempura after paying at the counter. I picked "Squid Tempura" and the unique "Curry Chicken Tempura." Regardless of the type, two pieces of tempura cost ¥340. After paying, I added tempura flakes, seaweed, green onions, and ginger as toppings. The udon noodles were firm like Sanuki udon. I mistakenly thought I ordered a regular size, but it turned out to be 1.5 servings, which was quite a lot. The broth was sweet and rich. However, the tempura was not impressive. Overall, I prefer Marugame Seimen over this place. It's convenient for a quick meal when you're short on time in the Ebisu area.

The udon noodles I ordered (¥490) with a raw egg (¥70) were served on a tray from the counter. You can freely add toppings like tempura crumbs, green onions, seaweed, and ginger at the counter. The restaurant had a clean and spacious interior with tables for 4 people and a counter. The udon had a comforting taste with a satisfying texture. I will visit again when I want to relax. To avoid the usual long lines after 12 pm, I arrived around 11:30 am. Inside, there were a few people dining. You purchase food tickets first. On this day, I ordered warm kake udon with a hot spring egg. It was served promptly. You can add condiments as much as you like, with options like green onions, seaweed, ginger, tempura crumbs, and shichimi pepper available. I like to add plenty of green onions and seaweed. It's nice that you can get refills on condiments if you run out. I usually order the mentai kamatama, but this time I went with the kake udon because I read on their website that the soup is so delicious you can drink it all up. And it was true - the soup was really tasty. It's light and refreshing, with a clear broth. The additional hot spring egg I ordered paired perfectly and was delicious. From now on, I've decided to order kake udon here.

Purchased food tickets, served yourself with side dishes before receiving the udon. Toppings like green onions are added by yourself afterwards. The cold shabu bukkake was 850 yen, with a warm egg for 100 yen, and chicken tempura for 170 yen. The chicken tempura was twice as big as expected. Usually tempura like squid is smaller. The udon had a nice chewy texture. The ginger on top had a nice spicy kick to it. The chicken tempura was too big, so I dipped it in the udon broth and ate it. I preferred this over the tempura sauce.

I had spicy minced meat udon on June 18, 2022. The taste was delicious. However, the bonito flakes clumped together when mixed, which was a downside. The atmosphere of the restaurant was not very pleasant, as I felt like customers who complained were scolded. It might have been just a one-time thing, but that was a bit disappointing.
