I found a restaurant with a lineup of rare cuts of meat, so I decided to visit. It is located about a 10-minute walk from Futako-Tamagawa Station on the Tokyu Oimachi Line, along the charming Hanamizuki Street. I made a reservation a week in advance, as it is recommended. On the day of my visit, they were fully booked with 3 groups of 10 people without reservations.
The restaurant has a calm, traditional Japanese atmosphere with a unique counter seating arrangement for about 20 people and 3 private rooms. It is mandatory to order a course menu (7 items for 3,080 yen, or 10 items for 3,850 yen). I ordered the following:
- 605 yen: appetizer
- 3,080 yen: 7-item course
- 870 yen: additional 2 items
- 2,160 yen: 3 highballs
- Total: 6,715 yen
The dishes I received were:
1. Scallop, simmered dish (shiitake mushrooms and greens), pickled dish (eggplant and yam)
2. Meatball
3. Cartilage (breastbone)
4. Skirt meat, white miso and green onions
5. Liver
6. Thick fried tofu
7. Chicken tenderloin
8. Chicken neck
9. Chicken tail, garlic butter
10. Chicken neck and lymph nodes, mustard
11. Dessert: soft serve ice cream
Here are my thoughts on the food:
- The meat used was a mix of Oyama Jidori, Soshu Furushiro, and Junwa Jidori.
- They provided a variety of condiments like miso, homemade spicy miso, Hida sansho pepper, shichimi, and dashi soy sauce.
- Some of the dishes (3, 4, 5, 7, 8) were considered rare cuts but were disappointing in terms of taste and quality.
- The organ meats (4, 5) had a strong, unpleasant flavor.
- The meat dishes (3, 7, 8, 9) were overcooked.
- The chicken tenderloin (7) lacked flavor despite the excessive cooking.
- The chicken tail and lymph nodes (10) had a strange seasoning.
- The lymph nodes and esophagus in the chicken neck (10) had a unique texture and were the only highlight.
