- Beef Fry: Black Pepper Stir-Fry (820 yen) *Spiciness level ★3 - Shrimp and Fish Lemon Butter Masala (1,300 yen) *Spiciness level ★1 - Basmati Rice M Size (360 yen) - Heartland beer (550 yen) Visit Date: Exactly 1 year since the last visit, 2nd time visiting. Last time I had the Meals, so this time I wanted to try the Shrimp Curry Banana Leaf Wrap, but it was limited in quantity and sold out at this time. Visited on a weekday at 8:30 pm. 3 groups of customers with 8 people in total were already there, and 1 person came in later. Beef Fry arrived at 8:37 pm, and Lemon Butter Masala arrived at 8:46 pm. During this time, there were few customers, and the lighting was subdued, creating a calm atmosphere for enjoying the meal, making it perfect for relaxing after work. Last time, there were banana chips and green chili as a complimentary appetizer, but it seems they are no longer available. That's a shame. - Beef Fry: I mistakenly ordered the spiciness level ★3 without realizing that it was loaded with black pepper. The beef is coated with a generous amount of black pepper. Besides being spicy, it has a flavorful spiciness that is not just about heat, but also deliciously spicy. Personally, I can handle the spiciness of chili peppers and Sichuan peppercorns, but my tolerance for pepper is not as high, so it was quite a challenging experience. The bell peppers and tomatoes provided a nice balance. - Shrimp and Fish Lemon Butter Masala: The color of lemon is refreshing in this dish. The lemon's acidity and sweetness are refreshing, giving the curry a light and smooth texture, almost like a stew. It was a curry unlike any I've had before, and the combination with the light and fluffy basmati rice was delightful. The amount of shrimp and fish as ingredients was a bit lacking. This is a place where you want to try different dishes in sequence. Thank you for the meal.

I sometimes visit this place when I crave dosa. The dosa was served on a plate, spread out flat. It looked impressive. It was thicker than the last time I had it, and I enjoyed the texture. It tasted great on its own, but also when torn and dipped in curry. The rice that came with it allowed me to experiment with different flavor combinations. The curry I had, made with sweet potatoes and red bell peppers, was delicious. It was mild yet not too sweet, and had a great texture. The strong spice flavors made me break a sweat even in the cool air-conditioned restaurant. All this for 1000 yen. Very satisfying experience.

I had some business in Jinbocho, and since it was already evening, I decided to have dinner somewhere before heading back. I checked on Tabelog and found that "Santosha" had high ratings, so I decided to go there. The restaurant is located on the second floor of a building. When I arrived at 6:03 PM, there was no line, so I went up the stairs to the second floor. Upon entering the restaurant, there were other customers but there were empty seats, so I was seated at the counter by a staff member. I looked at the menu and ordered the South Indian set meal "FULL MEAL for 2,050 yen" and a "Heartland draft beer for 550 yen". The draft beer arrived at 6:07 PM, and I waited while enjoying it. At 6:23 PM, the FULL MEAL was served, and the staff member explained each item on the plate. It included Papad, Batura, Basmati Rice, Masala Wada, Rasam, Sambar, Thoran, Chicken Curry, Fish Curry, Vegetable Curry, and homemade yogurt. The staff member also explained the proper way to eat the meal, as written in the instruction sheet: 1. Create a mixing space on the table for the curries. 2. Crush the Papad and mix it with the rice. 3. Mix little by little for a gradual change in taste. 4. Start with the light-tasting Sambar on the left. 5. Yogurt is not dessert, feel free to mix it with other curries. Rice, Sambar, and Rasam are refillable for free. I followed the instructions and enjoyed the meal, mixing the ingredients as instructed. It was my first time trying this type of meal, and it was delicious. I also enjoyed dipping the Batuura in the curry. After finishing my draft beer, I ordered an "Indian Highball for 660 yen" and continued eating. The staff member refilled my rice during the meal. I particularly liked the Chicken Curry, and the Fish Curry was also tasty. I finished my meal completely. Thank you for the delicious dinner tonight.

I visited the restaurant around 1 pm on a weekday. There were a couple of people ahead of me, but I was able to get in within about 15 minutes! I ordered the lunch set C (1200 yen) which includes three curry dishes, papad, rice, rasam, and sambar, along with a choice of dosa or batuura. I shared the dosa and batuura with a friend. The curry dishes of the day were Chicken Keema and Cauliflower (spicy), Prawn Curry Talasery-style (medium), and Zucchini and Carrot (mild). The Chicken Keema and Cauliflower was definitely delicious, with just the right amount of spiciness. It was my favorite when eaten on its own! The Prawn Curry Talasery-style had a unique flavor that grew on me with each bite, especially when mixed with other curries. It's worth trying for its interesting taste. The Zucchini and Carrot curry was also tasty, with a rich vegetable flavor. The sambar (bean curry) and rasam (tomato soup) that came with the set were both refreshing and delicious, with the rasam being particularly tangy. The dosa (rice and lentil crepe) was incredibly tasty, light, and flavorful. I couldn't stop eating it! The batuura (fried naan) was also delicious, but I personally recommend the dosa. The rice was also good, and I had seconds (for free). Mixing everything together was really tasty! Overall, I think it's great value for money. I'd love to try other flavors too!

This was my 15th visit to Kanda Curry Grand Prix stamp rally. Looking back at my past reviews, I realized it had been 3 years since my last visit, even though the restaurant had just opened back then. I was surprised at how long it had been since I last came. We arrived around 11:30 AM and there were two groups of people waiting on the stairs. There were a few hand fans hanging on the handrail, but unfortunately, they seemed to be out of battery. It was hot waiting on the stairs. Just before we were called inside, we ordered the C set meal for 1200 yen. It had three types of curry (spicy, medium, mild), sambar, rasam, papad, and patula. The fluffy basmati rice was free for refills. It was a great deal. The curry was delicious, each one carefully made. The sambar and rasam were lukewarm, which was a bit disappointing, but the curry was unique and tasty. The fluffy basmati rice was also delicious. Breaking the papad and eating it with the rice was a memorable experience. I ended up getting more rice than my initial serving and left the restaurant feeling very satisfied. It's no wonder this place is in the top 100 on Tabelog and has a Michelin star. By the time we left around noon, there were more than 10 people waiting on the stairs. It's definitely a popular spot!

I had lunch at this restaurant. I ordered a set meal that came with Rasam (spicy and sour soup) and Sambar (spicy vegetable soup). I also ordered a side of Achaar (spicy lemon pickle). The overall spice level was mild and enjoyable. Instead of the usual Puri (fried bread), I opted for Dosa (thin crepe) for my lunch, which was crispy and interesting. There was also white rice hidden underneath, and I couldn't resist getting a second helping. I tried mixing in some crushed Papad (giant potato chip) and crispy Dosa with the rice, which added a nice texture. The nighttime menu looks very intriguing, so I must revisit this place! The restaurant's name, "South Indian Meals & Tiffins Santosham," made me wonder if "Santosham" is the phonetic translation of the name. I also wondered about the meaning behind "tiffins" in the context of Indian cuisine. It turns out that "tiffins" refers to snacks in South Asian English, but it also has connections to British colonial influences like brunch and afternoon tea. This restaurant really got me thinking about the nuances of Indian cuisine and language.

I felt like having curry, so I went to Santosh in Jinbocho! There are many curry restaurants in Jinbocho, but this one is quite popular. There was a long line, but I got inside in about 20 minutes. This time, I ordered the C set. Besides curry, it came with tomato soup and various other side dishes. The curry of the day included Black Pepper Chicken (red), Mutton Keema with vegetables (white), and Cutra with beans and cabbage (yellow). The flavors were very spicy! Personally, I liked the Mutton Keema the best. The chicken curry was the spiciest. The bean curry was the mildest and easy to eat, but it lacked a punch. It's nice that you can have unlimited rice refills. The B set costs exactly 1000 yen, which I think is a good deal! I might explore other curry restaurants next time.

Set B offers three types of curry today: Beef Keema, Chicken Korma with Papad, and Paneer with Eggplant and Green Peas. You can choose between Dosa or Batuura. Madras Coffee, which is a foamy coffee, is prepared with foam right in front of you. It has a sweet taste.

On Saturday afternoon, I visited a restaurant on the second floor. There was a line of about 10 people on the stairs in front of the entrance. I waited for about 30 minutes to get in. I had fish, chicken, and tomato curry, as well as rasam and sambar soups, basmati rice, papad, and puli. In conclusion, it was delicious! The chicken curry had a good balance of acidity, spiciness, and richness. The rasam and sambar were also incredibly tasty, showing a high level of quality. The lassi was very rich. The restaurant had a fashionable and clean atmosphere, and I noticed many families and groups of women dining there. You can get refills of soup and rice, so it's very satisfying for men as well. If you're going to an Indian restaurant with women, this place is a top choice. Sri Lankan curry places are often clean and nice, so this one stands out for its rarity and deliciousness. Thank you for the meal!

I arrived around 11:10 and had to wait a bit because the restaurant was full. It must be because summer vacation is over. I ordered the C set which includes 3 types of curry, sambal, rasam, papad, rice, and dosa. The curry was on the thinner side but had plenty of ingredients. All the curries were delicious and had just the right amount of spiciness. You can have unlimited rice refills, but I was already full! I recommend the chicken stew and mutton keema. I still prefer non-vegetarian dishes.

I finally visited this restaurant that I have been curious about for a while. I had to give up once before because it was full. I was able to get in smoothly when I arrived before 6:00 pm. I think this place is one of the leading South Indian curry restaurants in the competitive area of Jimbocho. I ordered the fish and meat meals. It seems that the flavors intensify in a clockwise order starting from the left front. It starts with sambar and rasam, and ends with fish and chicken curry. The chicken curry has a refreshing acidity that is quite invigorating. The beef fry appetizer looks really delicious, so that's my homework for next time. This restaurant was also featured in "The Lonely Gourmet."

Visited as part of the Kanda Curry Street stamp rally. I went for lunch on a weekday right after the restaurant opened, but it was already full. The announcement said there would be a considerable wait as the first round of customers had just been seated, and I ended up waiting for about 30 minutes before getting a table. There was already a line of more than 10 people by the time I got in, showing that it's still a very popular spot. While waiting, I placed my order for the C set lunch menu priced at 1200 yen, which included three types of daily curry, sambar, rasam, rice, papad, and a choice of bhatura or dosa. I chose the bhatura. The daily curries that day were a spicy clam curry, a medium-spicy mutton keema and spinach curry, and a mild evening glory and carrot curry. Once seated, the food was served promptly. Each curry had its own unique flavor, with the spicy clam curry and the mild evening glory and carrot curry being my favorites. I enjoyed mixing the bhatura with the curries, along with the rice and papad. The highlight of San Toshu is definitely the meals. The curry varieties change over time, so you can enjoy the meals with the different curries available. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Leaving aside whether this place is like Ochanomizu, it is quite deep. It's a curry rice type of restaurant or a cafe with a long history. This place is filled with spices. There are many bookstores, and the trend of eating curry while holding a book became popular. However, the curry here is not suitable for eating with a book in hand as it may get stained. Is it a type of South Indian cuisine? If you call around 7 o'clock, they will immediately seat you at the counter. The menu is full of dishes that are hard to imagine, so I ordered the Dosa with onion and cheese, along with beer and lassi. Personally, I love Rasam, so I ordered an additional serving. The Rasam here has a strong flavor of herbs, different from the tomato-based Rasam at Eric's or the Tokyo Bawan. It's like ordering miso soup and getting something completely different. I also ordered chicken liver fry as a snack, which looked surprisingly delicious. It was a surprising dish with a black paste-like sauce containing liver hidden inside. It started off subtly and then the spiciness increased gradually. If you're not good with spicy food, the peppers in this dish are a no-go. I can handle quite spicy food, but I still broke a sweat (it might be more effective than a sauna on a hot summer night). Moving on to the main dish, the famous prawn curry wrapped in banana leaves was sold out, so I ordered the mutton curry (2 stars) with reduced spiciness, served with patty rice. This curry is oddly sweet, perhaps due to the high content of coconut milk. It's still subtly spicy. I prefer it to be a bit less sweet, but the dosa is delicious and there's more to explore here.

After work, I went to Kanda Curry GP. It was my first time for dinner, as I usually go for lunch on weekends when it's crowded. Surprisingly, there was no line this time, and I got a seat at the counter. I ordered the Vegetarian Meal, a draft beer, and a rich lassi. I started with the beer to relax after a long day. Then the meal arrived, with curry, basmati rice, and papad on the table. The main curry was a tomato masala curry with bitter gourd. It had a nice tangy flavor, which went well with the basmati rice. I couldn't quite catch the name of the side dish, but it was like dried radish. I enjoyed mixing the curries and having them with the bhatura. It's a popular place, so it was still busy late into the night. Overall, it was a great meal.

I decided to go on the day when it was being rebroadcast on "The Lonely Gourmet," so I arrived 15 minutes before opening, prepared for it to be crowded. There were already two groups waiting. It was incredibly hot while waiting on the indoor staircase, but the staff kindly provided handheld fans, so I was able to wait comfortably. I ordered the C set with three types of curry and chose dosa. I also ordered peach and plum, passion fruit lassi, and lemon pickle. The meal was served in a thali format with sambar, rasam, papad, basmati rice, three types of curry, and dosa. The dosa was incredibly delicious and I finished it in seconds. Rice was free for seconds, and I definitely went for seconds. I thought I could go for a third round, but my stomach was too full. Mixing everything together or eating them separately, everything was just so delicious that it was impressive. The lemon pickle also added a nice touch. I would like to go again on weekends for the a la carte menu. When I stepped outside, there was already a line forming. Even without being on TV, this is a must-visit popular restaurant.

I finally visited the restaurant I've been wanting to go to, and when it opened at 11 o'clock, there were 12 people in line. I chose the Lunch C set, which included three types of curry (chicken keema and eggplant, shrimp curry in Nadan style, pumpkin and broccoli), as well as rasam, sambar, rice, papad, and batuura (fried naan). The refreshing spiciness and acidity made me forget about my fatigue. The coconut pudding was absolutely delicious (*゚▽゚*), and for only 200 yen, it felt like a steal. The chai, poured in front of me while incorporating air, was also delicious.

Non-veg meals Tonight, I had a meal with the feeling of Inogashira Gorou. Wow, even though it's my first time here, the scenery looks familiar! Since watching the broadcast four years ago, I've always wanted to come here someday, and finally I was able to visit. The rasam aside, the sambar, fish curry, and chicken curry all had light gravies. Especially the sambar, at first glance, it's hard to distinguish from rasam. This type with a prominent sourness might be a first for me. The refreshing taste of tomatoes overall is impressive, and it's so light that you can eat a lot. The fish curry in particular was delicious. I don't usually get to eat bhatura, so that was also nice. Thank you for the meal.

I visited San To Sha for the first time, a restaurant I had always wanted to try. I arrived around 2:00 PM on a weekday and there were four people ahead of me waiting. The turnover was quick, and I was seated inside within 5-10 minutes. As expected from a popular restaurant that has been featured on "The Lonely Gourmet," the atmosphere was lively. In the kitchen, there were two chefs who seemed to be from South India working efficiently. The staff handling the customers were Japanese. This restaurant serves cuisine from the Kerala state in South India. I usually eat dishes from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu in South India, so I wanted to try something different this time. The overall taste was characterized by the flavors of coconut milk and coconut oil. There was a sweet taste with a good amount of spices and chili. The three types of curry with vibrant colors were very appetizing. The rice was slightly sticky, resembling Japanese rice at first, but upon closer inspection, it was basmati rice. You could have unlimited refills of rice. The dosa was moist and fragrant, while the papad was crispy and flavorful. The rasam had a gentle touch with a slight thickness, and the sambar had a similar flavor profile to rasam. It would be interesting to compare the rasam and sambar here with those from Andhra Kitchen or Andhra Dining. I ended the meal with a Madras coffee, taking a hot break. Overall, I was very satisfied and had a great time. The service was also good. The mobile fan installed on the stairs was a thoughtful touch. It must be tough to wait in a long line on the stairs in the hot and humid summer, so it's a nice gesture. I would definitely like to visit this distinguished restaurant again.

Accompanied by a visit to a secondhand bookstore in Jinbocho. Since most bookstores close at 5 pm, we visited this restaurant which was open for dinner. I don't remember what Goro-san was eating, it was a while ago... Since we didn't make a reservation, I asked if it was okay to sit at the counter. They said they would prepare a table for us, so we waited on the stairs until a reserved customer arrived and then they seated us at a table. It was thoughtful of them to accommodate us like that. I boldly asked the staff what Goro-san had eaten before, so I ordered the same meal (I would regret it if I ordered something different). They showed us how to eat the meal, but it seemed difficult to eat, right? There is no right way to eat it, I guess? They allowed us to have seconds of Rasam and Sambar. The curry was quite spicy, so I mixed the Rasam and Sambar while eating. Since it was a South Indian curry, everything was quite watery. It was fun to have them pour the seconds from a big pot. Rasam is sour, right? Yeah, it's sour. I prefer Sambar. They also had a portable fan for customers waiting outside, which was very helpful. Next time, let's make a reservation.
