I had finished shopping at Shinjuku Isetan, so I headed to the Isetan Annex as usual. The department store was crowded, but the Isetan Annex next door was surprisingly empty, like a hidden gem. Well, there aren't many restaurant choices, and I usually only come to this Western-style restaurant. This day, of course, it was empty as well. Even though it's a table for four, you can use it leisurely alone without feeling guilty. Looking around the restaurant, there were a few solo female diners ordering wine bottles and enjoying their time reading books. It's quiet and really nice. First, I started with the usual draft beer. It was well chilled, went down smoothly, and was just perfect for the night. Here's what I ordered:
- Tomato Salad: I remembered how delicious the salad with lots of ingredients here was, so I decided to go with a simple tomato salad this time. However, the tomatoes were not sweet at all, which was a bit disappointing. The dressing that worked well with the salad with lots of ingredients didn't quite match with these not-so-sweet tomatoes. It just goes to show how important the taste of the ingredients is.
- Garlic Pilaf Steak Plate: I saw the poster at the storefront and immediately decided to order this. That day, I was craving for a garlicky flavor, meat, rice, and red wine, and this dish fulfilled almost all of them. All that was left was to order a glass of red wine. When I finished my beer, they brought me the pilaf and wine. It smelled so good. Actually, the last time I had seafood pilaf here, it was almost like fried rice, which was disappointing. So, I was a bit worried when I ordered pilaf again this time. But it was different from the last time. It was delicious. The garlic flavor was mild and the seasoning was slightly sweet, which I liked. The steak on top was quite tasty. It fulfilled my desire for "a little bit of tasty meat." The shredded large leaf garnish on the side added a refreshing touch to the rich flavors of garlic and meat. It was a dish that I really liked, and I didn't want to finish eating it. I enjoyed it slowly while sipping on white and red wine. It was a very pleasant time. I will visit again soon.
