"I visited Ebisu for two consecutive days. Today, I came alone to explore Ebisu, with the goal of visiting 'MASA'S KITCHEN,' one of the 'Top 100 Chinese Restaurants.' As a resident of Kanagawa, I often visit Chinatown for Chinese cuisine, so I hadn't explored Chinese restaurants in Tokyo much. However, I wanted to visit this restaurant as it offers a good deal for lunch, with a slightly different atmosphere from traditional Chinatown restaurants.
[Nearest Station/Location]
- It is located about a 7-minute walk from Ebisu Station East Exit. On the way, there are trendy cafes and restaurants lined up, and the entrance is downstairs with a lunch sign on the first floor, making it easy to find.
[Seating]
- From what I saw, there are a few table seats and about 10 counter seats, and I chose to sit at the counter.
[Visit Time/Day]
- I arrived on a Sunday (during the Obon period) around noon. I did not have a reservation but there were available seats, and I was seated promptly. The staff's courteous service gave the impression of a high-end establishment!
[Order]
- I ordered the 'Daily Lunch Set for 2,200 yen tax included.' The set includes a main dish (Szechuan-style fried tofu), rice, 2 appetizers, fried food (squid fritters), soup, and steamed dish (shiitake mushroom dumplings), offering a variety of cooking methods to enjoy. *Rice refills are free.
[Food Impressions]
- Overall, the food was 'Japanese-style Chinese cuisine.' Everything was incredibly delicious, ranking among the top Chinese restaurants I've tried. The main dish, featuring fried tofu, bamboo shoots, and wood ear mushrooms, had a spicy kick but also a rich umami flavor. It was a perfect accompaniment to rice! The squid fritters were incredibly tender, easily biteable. The shiitake mushroom dumplings were made with shrimp and shiitake mushrooms, served in a soy sauce and sesame oil-infused broth, which was also delicious. The flavors were gentle and served as a palate cleanser.
[Special Mention]
- I was truly impressed by this Chinese Top 100 restaurant! The taste was outstanding, the hospitality was impeccable. Moreover, the chic atmosphere of the restaurant in Ebisu, the excitement of watching the dishes being prepared in front of you at the counter. And the thrill of being served. Highly recommended. Considering the quality and quantity of dishes, the cost performance is also reasonable! However, it seems that if you go on weekdays, you can order this set for 200 yen cheaper. One small suggestion, adding a dessert like almond jelly to the lunch set would have added to the overall enjoyment."
