A popular udon restaurant located in the Nishi-Shinjuku area, a bit off the Koshu Kaido street. The restaurant has high ratings on Tabelog, and I had been curious about it for a while, so I decided to visit for lunch on a holiday. The restaurant opens at 11:00 am, but they issue QR-coded numbered tickets starting from 9:00 am on the same day, so I first went to the machine in front of the restaurant to get my ticket. I arrived at the restaurant around 9:30 am, and my ticket number was 16, with a message to come back 60 minutes after the opening (you can confirm this by scanning the QR code with your smartphone). The interior of the restaurant is small, with only two counter seats and two table seats, so the turnover is not very high. While waiting in line outside the restaurant according to the ticket number, the staff came to take our orders, and once inside, the food was served promptly. There were various types of udon on the menu, but I decided to splurge and ordered the more expensive "Kamiten Zaru (2,680 yen)" this time. The Kamiten Zaru comes with 2 shrimp tempura, 4 vegetable tempura, and tempura of fish and squid. The udon had a good chewiness and a soft, elastic texture, which I found delicious. The tempura included unique ingredients like bitter melon, and each piece had a crispy coating, making it very tasty. The quality of the udon is high, but with the increase of affordable and delicious udon restaurants lately, I felt that the price was a bit high. Most of the customers were foreign tourists (Asian), so it seems to be popular among international visitors. If you are a udon lover and have some time to spare, I think it's worth a visit.
