Located about a 10-minute walk from Kuramae Station, "Safn" is a cafe inside the renovated Art Warehouse Building, which is now a hotel called "KAIKA TOKYO". The building, originally constructed in 1966, has been transformed into a hotel with 6 floors, featuring art and a lounge on the 1st floor and basement floor. The space is a haven for art lovers with its unique atmosphere.
I visited this trendy cafe, which opened in June 2022, and heard that their pudding is especially popular. The name "Safn" means "art museum" in Icelandic. As soon as you step inside, you'll feel like you've entered a different world, with a fantastic ambiance that almost makes you feel like you're overseas. The stylish BGM adds to the experience, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind.
Inside, there are various seating options including 4-person tables, booth-like seating, and larger tables, all arranged spaciously. The walls are adorned with large paintings and art pieces, creating a unique setting to enjoy sweets and coffee while admiring the art.
I visited around 6:30 pm on a holiday, and the cafe was already full. After an 8-minute wait, we were able to get a table. It seems that there can be long lines during lunchtime, as it is a very popular spot. Note that reservations are not accepted!
Today, I tried the following:
- Espresso Tonic (seasonal drink) ¥750
- Ethiopia Hand Drip ¥800
- Dense Matcha Muffin ¥500
- Chocolate Banana Muffin ¥500
You order at the counter, and then your order is called out for pickup. Unfortunately, the pudding I wanted was already sold out by the evening. I ended up ordering the matcha muffin, which was moist and had a delightful texture with chewy mochi inside. The seasonal Espresso Tonic was also a hit, with a refreshing bitterness from the tonic water and a perfect blend of espresso.
Next time, I'll make sure to come earlier to try the pudding. Despite the long lines during lunchtime, this cafe is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended!
