I realized that when you're not in a good mood, even delicious food doesn't taste as good. It was a lesson learned.

There were many families with children, so it was a relaxed dining experience for us as well. I finally visited the Metropolitan buffet that I had been wanting to go to, which holds a sweets buffet featuring Suica's penguin sweets that I find cute. The buffet theme was "Strawberry Sweets Buffet" priced at 6600 yen (including 10% tax). Reservation is required in advance. Each person gets a plate of "shortcake" with Suica's penguin motif, and there are also "macarons," "puddings," and "cookies" available on the buffet table. In addition, there were about 15 other types of sweets. I only picked the ones with Suica's penguin motif (laughs). I heard that there were light meals such as sandwiches available, and surprisingly, they were quite substantial. I enjoyed dishes like roast beef and seafood marinade before indulging in the Suica penguin sweets...the 100 minutes passed by in a flash. I would love to visit again when they have cute sweets available.

In the guest rooms, there is complimentary mineral water in the refrigerator with the hotel's original label. The label is black-based, giving it a sophisticated urban atmosphere. The contents are just regular water. For tea, there are Ito En tea bags, and for coffee, there are UCC drip packs.

Room service breakfast included for two people at ¥40,000 for one night. Breakfast was requested at 8:00. Both of us chose green smoothies, a bit sweet. For egg dishes, we chose omelettes and scrambled eggs. Other options included sunny-side-up eggs. Bread options included white bread and croissants. The penguin pancakes were not very impressive. The event takes place in the banquet hall "Sakura" on the 4th floor. Upon arrival, guests undergo temperature checks and check-in, and the venue opens about 25 minutes before the start time. Before the start, there is free time for activities like photography. Each guest is provided with a Suica penguin mango parfait before the start. The buffet area for sweets is divided into two parts, with some items placed in two locations, with a designated flow to avoid congestion. The dessert lineup focuses on mango and tropical fruits, with Instagrammable presentations and delicious flavors. The light meal and drink buffet area also offers a variety of options. While the quality of the food is good, the high price and strict reservation/cancellation policies may not make it worth revisiting. A Tropical Sweets Buffet is scheduled for June 11th, 12th, 18th, and 19th, 2022, but I may not return at the current price point.

On a holiday afternoon around 2 o'clock, I went to a hotel in search of cake. Some of the Suica Penguin series cakes were already sold out, but there were plenty of other cakes lined up in the showcase. - Purchased cake - Chocolate cake 600 yen including tax. The price of 600 yen is not too high compared to other cake shops in the area. I often use it as a souvenir because you can easily get stylish sweets from the hotel for 600 yen, just a 1-minute walk from the station. The super rich chocolate cake is in a stylish rectangular shape. Chocolate is topped on the top, and a firm chocolate cream layers the chocolate sponge, creating a chocolate-colored cake! The gloss of the glaze on the surface also adds an elegant touch.

The hotel itself feels like a typical business hotel. However, they have a good selection of restaurants and bars. The location is great, probably the most convenient in Ikebukuro. Breakfast had the basics covered, including an egg station. When you absolutely have to stay in Ikebukuro, this would be the top choice for sure!

I had lunch at the huge hotel "Hotel Metropolitan," operated by JR East Japan, right next to JR Ikebukuro Station. The lunch buffet cost 3,500 yen excluding tax. It is located right next to the Metropolitan Exit of Ikebukuro Station, making it a prime location. The massive dining area has 260 seats, and it was fully booked during lunch on weekdays. Almost all customers were elderly women. Those aged 65 and above had a discounted price of 3,000 yen excluding tax. Perhaps this skewed customer base is due to the unique location right next to JR Ikebukuro Station? You line up to get your food, and it can get very crowded right after the restaurant opens. The buffet offers a wide variety of dishes, including Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisines, as well as meat and fish. It may have been the buffet with the most variety of dishes I have experienced. According to the official website, there are about 50 dishes available. They even served dishes directly to your table. However, the taste was somewhat outdated, reminiscent of the mid-range hotels during the bubble economy era. The memories of my childhood came flooding back. The beef steak, being all-you-can-eat, was of low quality. While the other dishes were not particularly bad, if you are paying over 3,000 yen, there are plenty of other places in central Tokyo where you can enjoy more delicious food. Perhaps it's because of the prime location right in front of Ikebukuro Station, but for the price, you might expect better quality.
