In Sumida Ward, Ishihara, there is "Unagikawa Isamu". I ended up coming back after two weeks. The restaurant originated from a tea house and inn serving eel in Kashiwabara, Shizuoka during the Edo period, and opened in Honjo Ishihara in the 40th year of the Meiji era. It's a eel shop with a long history. The popular restaurant starts to have people lining up before the opening time of 4:30 pm. Around 4 pm, the owner puts out a name list for customers to sign up, and then returns to the restaurant about 10 minutes before opening. (If your name is called at opening time and you're not there, it becomes invalid, so be careful). Last time, I waited quite a bit, but this time I went early and was seated smoothly. I ordered tuna and trefoil with wasabi, grilled eel (large), yakitori (with sauce) x4, grilled chicken liver x3, chicken rice bowl (large), liver soup x2. I shared them with my companion. The tuna and trefoil with wasabi had medium fatty tuna and was even more delicious than last time. The yakitori has a great sauce that has been passed down for years, and the chicken is made from Miyazaki prefecture's local chicken, giving it a plump and elastic texture, which is truly delicious. The chicken rice bowl was also delicious, but a bit too soupy. A bit less soup would be better. The grilled eel was a bit thin for the large size. I should have ordered the eel rice bowl instead. The grilled eel liver was also large and delicious because of the tasty sauce. This second visit was also incredibly delicious. I will definitely come back again!

Today, I visited a recommended eel restaurant called "Kawayu" in Ryogoku by an acquaintance. I had made a reservation so we were able to get in smoothly, but by the evening there was a long line forming. Even though they close at 7:30 pm, there was still a line at around 7 pm when we were leaving. When I asked if they were closing soon, they said they want to accommodate as many customers as possible, which was very considerate. This time, the children had parent-child bowls, my wife had the eel bowl, my parents had the bamboo bowl, and I had the pine bowl. The eel was fluffy and the taste was amazing. I was impressed by the Naritasan Ira-no feeling! I didn't expect to find such a great restaurant nearby. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I went to the restaurant "Kawayu" founded in the 1940s (if I remember correctly) for their special deluxe eel rice bowl at 11:30. There were several groups waiting, so I waited for about an hour. The eel was very fluffy and delicious. There was a lot of eel, so I regretted not getting the large size rice bowl. The gentle eel liver was also delicious. Considering the price, I thought it was very good. The grilled chicken skewers also seemed like a specialty, so I definitely want to try them next time.

I wonder if it starts at 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays. I always go to my favorite place, Kawazuyu, a little early and line up to eat during the first round. It's delicious whenever you go. I don't want to tell anyone, but the yakitori is also big and delicious. When you squeeze lemon on it, it adds flavor and changes the taste. It's a restaurant that will make you love Ryogoku. You can also get plenty of sauce, and I want to go on a good day again.

I went around 5:00 pm! The eel was tender and very delicious. The photo is of the extra-large rice portion for an additional 100 yen. The extra-large rice portion was very filling and satisfying! The yakitori was also tender and tasty. A friend recommended this place to me, and even at around 5:00 pm on a weekday, there was a line. They said it's even busier at lunchtime and in the evening. I think it's best to go at a different time if you plan to visit. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!

I happened to have some business nearby and decided to have a meal around 5:30 PM on a weekday. It was my first time visiting this restaurant. The interior was clean and about 40% of the seats were already filled with solo diners and families, despite the early hour. Although it was an eel restaurant, I wasn't in the mood for eel, so I ordered the parent and child rice bowl. I was asked if I wanted to add eel liver, but since I didn't order eel, I declined. I had other plans later, so I didn't order any alcohol. Later, I found out that if you don't order the eel liver, you won't get a soup bowl. It was a bit disappointing because usually when you order a rice bowl, you get miso soup with pickles. After about 15 minutes, the rice bowl arrived. The amount of meat was indeed generous and looked delicious. I liked that it didn't have onions. I tried it while it was still hot. The taste was as expected and it was delicious. The broth was a bit too much, though. If this was the large size, I think the regular size would have been enough. I finished my meal quickly and left the restaurant. I was there for about 30 minutes. Thank you for the meal.

This is a traditional eel restaurant in the downtown area. I visited about two weeks ago but couldn't get in because they were sold out, so this visit was a revenge. I arrived at 6 pm on Monday and it was already full with us. First, I ordered the grilled eel liver. It was in a sweet and savory sauce. It would have been better if it was a little hotter, but it's just an appetizer so it's acceptable. The main dish, the eel rice bowl, had eel with a good amount of fat and the sauce was not too sweet, which was nice. When it comes to rice bowls, the way the rice is cooked is important, and here it was just slightly firm, which was the perfect balance for me. It will probably be crowded until the midsummer day of the Ox, so I might come back next month. Note that reservations are not available in July and August. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I tried to make a reservation by phone during the day, but all the seats for today were already taken. They told me to come in person, so I arrived at 6:00 pm prepared to wait in line. Surprisingly, there were only about half the customers there, so I was able to be seated right away. I started by disinfecting my throat with a large 633ml bottle of beer. While doing so, the eel liver skewers arrived, slightly bitter with a not too sweet sauce that made me feel the vitamins A and E. Next, the grilled eel arrived, which paired well with soy sauce and wasabi. The eel fat floating in the soy sauce also made me crave more sake. Not satisfied yet, I ordered the Yanagawa hot pot, which was quite sweet, so I washed it down with a watered-down sweet potato shochu. Ah, it was delicious, and I started to feel tipsy. Finally, I finished with half of the rice bowl on top of grilled eel. I was very satisfied.

I stopped by the restaurant when the bento box I wanted was sold out. It was quiet inside as it was past lunchtime on a weekday. I ordered the tuna and trefoil with wasabi, chicken rice bowl, and chicken liver. The tuna was delicious as always. The chicken rice bowl had a generous amount of chicken on top, even though I asked for less rice. I enjoyed using the two types of ground sansho pepper and aromatic sansho pepper on the table to enhance the flavors. I thought that besides eel, the other menu items were also delicious.

I was taken to this restaurant by my younger brother and his wife who live locally. Although it was an area that could be easily reached from Asakusa, locals had already started lining up before the opening, and we were seated in order as soon as the curtain was raised. We had the eel rice bowl (3,200 yen) and the eel liver (400 yen) - truly a taste of a long-established restaurant in Kanto. The eel was steamed and then grilled, giving it a soft and melt-in-your-mouth texture. The sweetness and richness of the sauce also complemented it perfectly. The eel liver was also excellent, with no hint of any raw smell, and a perfect balance of bitterness and umami. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Once we entered, we were able to be seated smoothly as there were only about 2 tables of customers before us at 11 am. We ordered the liver skewers and grilled eel over rice. The liver skewers had a delicious sauce, just the right amount of sweetness for my taste. The grilled eel could have used a bit more salt, but it wasn't too strong in flavor and made for a good snack. The portion of rice in the grilled eel dish was quite generous, so it was a good idea to order a smaller portion. We left the restaurant before noon, but there were already 5 to 6 people waiting in line.

A long-established restaurant in Honjo. The interior is spacious and has an open feel, perfect for leisurely dining. It seems suitable for daytime drinking and lingering. The clientele includes elderly customers drinking alone, nearby office workers, groups of women, and local residents. The black belt aura of the elderly customers is impressive, showing their expertise. The old-town vibe is nice. It's been a while since I had eel, but it's always delicious. The eel restaurant's grilled chicken skewers are also tasty! They're sizzling hot.

During the PayPay cashback campaign period, I decided to try a high-end lunch at a traditional eel restaurant in the Ishihara area, which I don't usually visit. Despite the casual atmosphere of the long-established restaurant, eel dishes are still expensive. Even the cheapest eel dish costs 2,500 yen, which is quite high for a regular lunch. In the end, I opted for the regular parent and child bowl for 1,000 yen. I also added the liver sashimi for 200 yen as recommended by the staff. The liver sashimi is a must-have accompaniment to the meal. The meal started with pickles, side dishes, and tea. The parent and child bowl and liver sashimi were served promptly, both covered. The parent and child bowl did not include onions, but consisted of egg, chicken, and green onions on top, following a traditional recipe. The presentation was excellent, and the rich and sweet sauce was delicious. It was a straightforward and tasty parent and child bowl. The liver sashimi was also delicious with its firm texture and flavorful liver. Although I have tried parent and child bowls at other places before, this 1,000 yen dish was of high quality and value for money. While others around me were enjoying eel dishes and drinking alcohol on a weekday afternoon, I couldn't help but feel a bit small worrying about a few hundred yen cashback from PayPay. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the meal. With PayPay payment, the high-quality parent and child bowl lunch with liver sashimi ended up costing less than 1,000 yen, which was satisfying.

This is a shop located between two countries and Kinshicho Station. It seems to have been in business for over 100 years. ・Unagi-don (grilled eel over rice) - 2,400 yen (including tax) It was somewhat crowded during lunchtime on weekdays, and there were a few people drinking alcohol. The eel was very tender and easy to cut with chopsticks. The sauce was on the lighter side. It also came with grilled eel liver, which is a great deal at this price. I will definitely come back next time with some alcohol.

This afternoon, I visited the eel restaurant "Kawayu" in Ishihara, Sumida-ku for the first time. I remembered seeing it when I visited the nearby public bath "Otoyayu" during my previous tour of public baths in Tokyo. I leisurely walked from Honjo-Azumabashi Station and arrived around 11 am. The curtain was already up, and there were several groups of customers inside. I was directed to a table and offered a linen towel and lukewarm tea for hand disinfection. The eel options were "Regular (2300 yen)," "Special (2900 yen)," "Extra Special - Bamboo (3600 yen)," and "Extra Special - Pine (4400 yen)." I asked the waitress for the largest portion, and she recommended the "Extra Special - Pine," which I ordered. Appetizers and pickles were served first, followed by a liver soup. After a short wait, the eel dish arrived. It was a substantial portion as advertised, with perfectly steamed eel, light sauce, and well-cooked rice. The meal was served generously, and there was powdered and aromatic Japanese pepper on the table. The restaurant, established over 100 years ago, has a rich history of serving eel tea houses and inns in Kashiwabara, a post town between Harajuku and Yoshiwara in the Edo period. The restaurant was bustling with local customers during lunchtime, reflecting its popularity in the area. I also noticed they serve yuba, and I look forward to visiting again to enjoy a leisurely meal and drinks. (Visit Rating: 3.45)

Kawamoto @ Ryogoku Tabelog 3.46⭐️⭐️⭐️ Unagi bowl (with rice on top) 2,980 yen Located between Ryogoku Station and Kinshicho Station, this eel restaurant is well-known for its delicious eel dishes. It has been featured on TV and is praised by KOHISHIKI as the place for eel. There are always lines during both lunch and dinner time. I later found out that you can make a reservation by phone, haha. The eel I had was truly amazing! The color was beautiful and striking. When I put my chopsticks in, I was surprised by how tender it was. The taste was fluffy and creamy, absolutely delicious. It's no wonder why this place is loved by locals. Thank you for the delicious and nutritious eel!

I went to a long-established eel restaurant in Ishihara that I had always been curious about thanks to the Monzen-nakacho PayPay 30% cashback campaign. I visited for lunch and it was already packed with customers as soon as it opened on a weekday. I ordered the top-quality eel. I heard from a friend that the rice portion was large, so I asked for a very small amount of rice and added grilled chicken, tuna, and wasabi with mitsuba. I was surprised by how delicious the tuna was! The fluffy eel had a classic taste. It was a very satisfying lunch.

Three generations have passed since the founding of the eel restaurant on Mitsume Street, which has been loved for its unchanged charm over the years. I finally had the chance to visit this historic establishment after being intrigued by it for some time. It was a rainy weekday, so I was able to enter without any hassle, but it quickly filled up with customers, showing its popularity. The place seems to be frequented mainly by local regulars. As soon as I stepped inside, I understood why it's so popular - the atmosphere is simply wonderful. The spacious and nostalgic interior, along with the friendly staff, made me feel right at home. Watching the regulars chatting happily with the staff made me feel warm inside. Reservations are only available on weekdays until 12:00. The menu is reasonably priced, and the grilled eel was quite popular. The eel dish varies in price based on the amount of eel. Today's eel was from Shizuoka Yoshida. I've always loved Yoshida eel, so I was thrilled to encounter it again after a long time. The eel is grilled using gas. I ordered the "Unaju" (grilled eel over rice) for 2300 yen, which came with liver sashimi, pickles, and a small side dish as part of the lunch set. It arrived in about 10 minutes. Since it's a popular spot, they seem to steam the eel continuously rather than all at once. The size was around 4 pieces, which is about 1/3 of a full eel. The sauce was light, and the surface of the eel was nicely grilled. The eel was not overly steamed, but rather soft and tender with a slightly crispy surface. The grilling was strong on the surface but gentle on the skin side. The gas grilling only brought out the aroma of the sauce. The eel was not overly fatty, providing a clean taste, but the umami from the eel was still present. The sauce was a bit sweet and savory, with a good balance of sweetness and depth. It complemented the eel well, adding richness without being overwhelming. The eel had a pleasant texture, not too soft, not too firm, and the skin was deliciously tender. The eel had a nice umami flavor, but lacked a bit in fragrance and aroma. The rice was well-cooked and not too sticky, with a decent flavor. Despite the smaller portion of eel, the generous amount of sauce made the rice very enjoyable. The liver sashimi had a rich broth but lacked the essential liver flavor. The two types of sansho pepper provided a nice fragrance. Overall, the eel was substantial and satisfying for the price. The friendly service and cozy atmosphere added to the overall experience, making the meal even more enjoyable. Restaurants that value their customers like this one are sure to last for a long time. They are currently running a PayPay campaign, so it's a good deal. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Located at Honjo Azumabashi, this long-established eel restaurant offers a delicious Tori-don set. Despite being tempted by the Unagi-don, I stayed true to my initial choice. The portion was generous and satisfying, with five pieces of chicken skewers cooked over charcoal. It cost 1700 yen and was absolutely delicious. They accept PayPay as well! After the meal, I enjoyed a walk back to Ryogoku for some aerobic exercise.

Visited for the first time at around 16:15 on Saturday. Located a 10-minute walk straight down Mitsume Street from exit 0 of Honjo-Azumabashi Station, this restaurant offers eel and loach dishes. Established in 1907, it is known for serving affordable traditional eel dishes. Reservations are available on weekdays, but not on Saturdays. Arrived 15 minutes before the 16:30 opening time, but there was already a line of customers waiting. A sign-up sheet was available outside, and customers were seated in the order of their names on the list. Ordered the regular eel rice bowl for 2,300 yen. The meal was served in about 20 minutes, including liver soup and pickles. Opted for extra rice for free. The eel was served with a light sauce, with a soft texture and a thin crispy skin. The balance of the meal was slightly off due to the extra rice, but it was delicious. The liver soup included tofu and fish cakes, providing a refreshing contrast to the rich eel flavor. Overall, it was a great value for money and a satisfying eel dining experience. Looking forward to trying the Yanaigawa hot pot on my next visit.
