At the office on the day of the meeting with the president, everyone had to move in the afternoon for their respective meetings, so I wanted to find a spacious and calm restaurant near the station to avoid any unnecessary travel time. I found "Wakaba Kappo" which I had passed by countless times over the years without considering using it. The atmosphere was nice and the food looked delicious, so I decided to try their lunch first.
The entrance had a lovely atmosphere reminiscent of a traditional Japanese inn, making me look forward to the meal. The elegant plate lunch included a variety of dishes from simmered dishes to sashimi and tempura. I enjoyed my meal slowly in the relaxed space and almost lost track of time. I don't know the names of the specific dishes, so I plan to come back for dinner to try them out.
Overall, the food had a delicious homemade taste and the restaurant also offered non-alcoholic beer and highball, making it a good place to toast. Although the lunch was a bit pricey, I found it worth it especially during these times when it's difficult to find a safe and enjoyable place to dine and socialize.

Oh, what a wonderful experience! Being served delicious food and drinks in a beautiful kimono from early in the day, just like I was invited to a tea house in Kyoto in the past. It feels like a dream come true. I want to be like Kohara Shosuke.

I used it for a special occasion. There were private tatami rooms and parking available. We arrived earlier than our reservation time. After following the staff's instructions to park the car, we were asked to wait outside. For some reason, the entrance to the restaurant was locked, so we couldn't go inside. It would have been better if we could at least enter and sit down while waiting, especially since there were elderly people with us. The food was so-so. I forgot to take photos of the dishes halfway through. After the meat, we had a soft chawanmushi, mixed rice, miso soup, and dessert.

Anyway, the best thing was that the room was spacious. Having three air purifiers in the room was great, but I thought having a fan might stir up the coronavirus, so maybe it's not necessary. The food was delicious as usual, but my companion said they felt unsatisfied because there wasn't enough meat (laughs). It wasn't my choice, okay! (laughs) I was satisfied with the amount, though! I wished there were more drink options, but it wasn't a big deal, so I went with a non-alcoholic drink. The last noodles were extremely cold, I thought I had sensitive teeth! (laughs)

The restaurant is located near the station and I was worried it might be crowded, but I was able to enter smoothly during lunchtime. The interior has a calm atmosphere with the scent of incense. They take your shoes and you go upstairs. You can enjoy a relatively casual lunch. I recommend the set with cold udon and mini tendon. The tendon had shrimp, shishito peppers, sweet potatoes, eggplant, and pumpkin. It was safe. I also tried the "Maple Saikyo-yaki" that came with the set, and it had a natural sweetness and richness that was better than expected. The fish was tender and delicious. The service is polite and you can enjoy your meal with peace of mind. The restaurant may be a bit too quiet? It's a good place to remember when looking for Japanese food around this area, a little away from the Skytree.

This is a traditional Japanese restaurant near Honjo-azumabashi Station! I decided to stop by because they were offering a 30% PayPay cashback promotion until the end of October. When I asked the person selling bento boxes if they had any available, they initially thought I had a reservation. Luckily, they checked and were able to accommodate me. It seemed like they were busy with Go To Eat reservations. The restaurant looked like a regular building from the outside, but inside, it felt quite elegant and intimidating. I was guided to a spacious tatami room on the second floor with a table strangely placed in the middle. I was left alone in the room until my meal was served. The meal consisted of sashimi, tempura, grilled fish, simmered dish, and more. The sashimi was a three-piece assortment of tuna, squid, and amberjack, cut to a decent thickness. The tempura included two shrimp, shishito pepper, and eggplant. The grilled fish seemed to be miso-marinated cod. The persimmon in the middle was actually a traditional Japanese sweet. Everything was delicious, and it truly felt like a well-established traditional Japanese restaurant with over 80 years of history. A group with a Go To Eat reservation arrived later, but by combining it with PayPay, they were able to enjoy some dishes for just one coin. Those who made reservations during this time were indeed lucky. While it may be a bit too expensive for regular visits, trying out their affordable bento boxes could be a good alternative.

Located near the Sumida River, a popular tourist spot, is a quaint long-established restaurant. Known for its high-quality beef steak and creative kaiseki cuisine. Just a one-minute walk from Honjo-Azumabashi Station, where you can enjoy a lovely view of the Skytree. "Wakaba" was often booked for private events like memorial services on Sundays before the pandemic, but now they also offer lunch on Sundays. Today, I ordered the "Black Wagyu Beef Sukiyaki" and the "Azumabashi Tenju" - both delicious. The serene Japanese atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing lunch. Highly recommended. The only downside was the service. While it was a lunch crowd, in times like these, a heartfelt service could enhance the dining experience even more.

"Kappo Tonbo" offers a set menu featuring specialties like Maple Saikyo-yaki, domestic wagyu sukiyaki, and Edo-style tempura for 6,072 yen. Located about a 5-minute walk from Honjo-azumabashi Station, this Japanese restaurant provides a dining experience in private rooms reminiscent of a traditional inn. Guests can enjoy gentle and delicious dishes such as Maple Saikyo-yaki, sukiyaki, and tempura. Highly recommended for those who love Japanese cuisine."

I used this restaurant for a post-funeral gathering hosted by my uncle. I was a guest, so I don't know the pricing system or the cost of the course on the day. After a ceremony at a certain place, we were taken to the front of the restaurant by a shuttle bus. The location is like going up from Honjo-azumabashi Station. On the way back, I walked to Oshiage, which was within walking distance. Inside the building, which had a modern feel, it had a traditional Japanese atmosphere, and we had to take off our shoes at the entrance. It seemed like an established restaurant, but relatively new, probably renovated. The room was a good size for about 20 people at the funeral. The sukiyaki-style meat placed on the table from the beginning was quite delicious, and the miso-grilled dish was also tasty with the right seasoning. In such a large upscale restaurant where there were likely many other customers, I think the food overall was good. The service from the staff was also pleasant. As for this restaurant, I think it is good for events like funerals, with good food and service overall. The location near the station is also convenient. After the event, when I walked to Oshiage, the Skytree looked beautiful against the blue sky. Thank you for the meal.

Today, we had a gathering at the restaurant called "Kappo Tonbo" located right near Honjo-Azumabashi Station. It was my first time getting off at this station and also my first time visiting this restaurant. We all managed to gather on time, 10 minutes before the scheduled meeting time, and the feast began in a private room. For some reason, they even had companions present (which I didn't arrange). The menu included the following:
[Appetizers] Chicken with walnuts, Matsukaze-style simmered mushrooms, Shrimp with red leaves, Soy sauce-marinated fresh salmon roe
[Sashimi] Tuna, Kanpachi, Squid
[Grilled dish] Maple miso-glazed flounder
[Hot pot] Salmon chan-chan hot pot
[Deep-fried dish] Shrimp tempura, Yellowtail, Seasonal vegetables
[Main dish] Toyama Koshihikari rice, Today's mixed chestnut rice
[Pickles]
[Dessert]
The standout dishes for me were the maple miso-glazed flounder and the salmon chan-chan hot pot. The flounder had a delicate sweetness that complemented the fish without overpowering it. And the salmon hot pot had a delicious miso base with a comforting aroma that filled the room when the lid was lifted. The cabbage in the hot pot was also a pleasant surprise. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience.

This is a review of Tonbo, a traditional Japanese restaurant established in 1933 in Honjo Azumabashi. The restaurant offers a variety of Japanese dishes and has seating for up to 120 guests, including private rooms for events.
