『Restaurants Visited in Ebisu: Ice Cream and Gelato』【No.2】During my summer vacation, I had an Italian lunch in Ebisu and on the way back, I decided to visit "Japanese Ice Cream Sakurahana," one of the 100 famous ice cream and gelato shops listed on Tabelog. This shop offers unique Japanese flavors of gelato, which I was eager to try.
【Nearest Station/Location】Located about a 2-minute walk from the east exit of Ebisu Station. It is easy to find as it faces the street.
【Seating】There is seating for about 8 people, and there are also standing tables available. I chose to stand and eat inside the shop.
【Visit Time/Day】I visited on a Saturday (during the Obon period) around 1:30 pm. The shop was almost full, with about 6 groups waiting. However, since it's ice cream, the turnover rate is quick.
【Order】I ordered a small size with 3 flavors (500 yen tax included). You can choose 3 flavors from about 10 options. I chose "Matcha," "Milk," and "Brown Sugar Banana." The shop offers a variety of Japanese-inspired flavors like roasted green tea, kinako (toasted soybean flour), and lemon sorbet, allowing for different combinations each visit.
【Food Review】The ice cream was served with a small portion of "salted kelp" for palate cleansing. They also offer roasted green tea to enjoy while dining in. The milk flavor was rich and creamy, yet refreshing. The matcha flavor had a strong matcha taste with a nice balance of creaminess. The "Brown Sugar Banana" flavor was my favorite, combining the sweetness of banana with the richness of dairy. Overall, the ice cream was delicious, and the addition of roasted green tea was a nice touch.
【Note】The combination of cold ice cream, palate-cleansing salted kelp, and refreshing roasted green tea made for a satisfying experience. The small size was generous, and the price of 500 yen was reasonable. This shop is a great option for students and anyone looking for a unique ice cream experience. "Japanese Ice Cream Sakurahana" stands out for its Japanese-inspired flavors and the opportunity to sample the shop's specialties.

I visited the ice cream and gelato shop "Japanese Ice Sakura" with a rating of 3.74 on Tabelog in 2023. The location and exterior of the shop were nice, and the interior was cozy. While European-style gelato shops are popular, this shop proudly offers Japanese ice cream made with Japanese ingredients like hojicha, matcha, and kinako. I tried the three-flavor set with milk, kyoho grape, and hojicha, as well as another set with milk, matcha, and kinako. It was a delight to see so many Japanese flavors on the menu. For those in their 50s, "made in Japan" brings a sense of comfort and joy. On a hot day, this gelato set is the perfect treat. They also offer complimentary salted kombu and hojicha to enjoy in the shop. It's a wonderful place to visit.

Around 9 pm, there were no customers waiting in line, but the indoor and outdoor seating areas were full. There were also quite a few foreign customers. You can choose from three flavors and three sizes. This time, I chose the most popular flavors: milk, matcha, and black sesame, and added red bean paste for an additional charge. The gelato was smooth and all flavors were delicious! Especially the matcha and black sesame were rich and had a really smooth texture. As a bonus, we also got some salted kelp, so we enjoyed a cycle of sweet → salty sweet → salty until we finished it all in no time. By the time we finished eating, a line had formed, so it seems we were just lucky to find it empty when we arrived.

I was looking for a cafe to pass the time until meeting my wife, and I happened to come across a highly recommended shop. I visited the shop near the station, which seemed to have available seats. I ordered a small serving of gelato with matcha, milk, and Kyoho grape flavors. The matcha had a rich and intense flavor, yet it was not overpowering and easy to enjoy. The milk had a rich taste with a subtle sweetness that was delightful. However, the standout was the Kyoho grape flavor. It had the perfect balance of the natural sweetness and aroma of grapes, making me regret not ordering a larger serving. I had it before dinner, so I opted for a small serving, but I will definitely visit again next time.

One customer after another came into the store. There were many takeout customers as well. I had been curious about the dumpling ice cream for a while, but since there were so many autumn flavors that I love, I ended up getting gelato only. I chose a small serving (including tax) for 500 yen, with sweet potato, pumpkin, and chestnut red bean flavors. Such a delicious combination! Each flavor had a comforting sweetness. It also came with salted kelp and roasted green tea for a palate cleanser. Being able to choose from 3 flavors for only 500 yen is such a great deal!

I had known about this place for a while, but it was being selected as one of the top 100 restaurants that prompted me to visit for the first time. In Ebisu, I used to be a fan of Delizie Follieri gelato, so I was curious about this place, but I had never been there before. I visited on a weekend afternoon, and it was crowded, but there was seating available. I ordered the "Three Flavors Mix" in a small size for 500 yen (including 10% tax), and I was surprised by the price! It's so cheap!! It's cheaper than the triple popsicle at ice cream chain stores! In Ebisu, near the station, with a slightly unique menu, being able to choose three flavors of ice cream for 500 yen, it's no wonder it's popular. I was further surprised when they brought me a small cup of hojicha tea and a pinch of salted kelp to enjoy with my ice cream! There was even a big rice cracker on top of the ice cream! In such a small shop with so many customers, this level of service is amazing! The hojicha tea was lukewarm. Is it for people who get cold after eating ice cream? The salted kelp, I still think it's best enjoyed with white rice rather than ice cream. The small size of the ice cream was more like a "regular size" than a small size. Most women were ordering the small size. It's definitely big enough even in the small size. I recommend the small size. Men, on the other hand, seemed unfazed by the term "small size" and were ordering the regular size. I ordered the "Milk No.1" flavor based on the recommendation that it's the most popular. I wouldn't have ordered it otherwise. Sometimes I think classic flavors like milk or vanilla are delicious. It's not too milky and has a refreshing taste! I love matcha so much that my favorite ice cream from Haagen-Dazs is matcha, so of course I chose matcha here! It's a Japanese ice cream, right? You can't go wrong with matcha! (But surprisingly, I felt like there weren't many people ordering matcha here. Maybe because it's a flavor that can be found anywhere?) The taste is as delicious as Haagen-Dazs. The apricot ice cream was refreshing and tasty, but the pairing was off, so the flavor was a bit subtle compared to the milk or matcha.-----
"Top 100 restaurants" makes you think it's a "top restaurant," right? If you think of it more like "top 100 restaurants," you might be able to understand the selection of any restaurant. I don't know if it's a top restaurant, but I can definitely understand why it's popular.

After eating sushi in Ebisu, I went to buy cream puffs at Westin and stopped by after getting a little hungry. It was a Saturday afternoon around 1 o'clock, and there were quite a lot of people inside the store, but there was one empty seat, so I ate inside.
- Small portion of 3 flavors for 500 yen: milk, kinako (soybean flour), and hojicha (roasted green tea). Even though it was a small portion, there was quite a bit of food. Milk flavor was a taste that everyone would like, delicious. Kinako was quite sweet. Even for someone who loves sweet things like me, it was too sweet. Hojicha was delicious, but compared to the hojicha I had at Morinomura the other day, it was not as good. It was cheap at 500 yen, but the staff, who I assume was a part-timer, seemed scary, so I'm giving a lower score.

Located just a few minutes from the east exit of Ebisu Station is the ice cream specialty store "Japanese Ice Sakura" (JAPANESE ICE OUCA), a gelato shop based in Kyoto. With a strong attachment to traditional Japanese ingredients, they aim to deliver seasonal ingredients in their best condition to customers. Their gelato showcase features flavors like matcha, black sugar roasted green tea, soybean flour, shiso, black sugar roasted green tea, candied sweet potato, tomato sorbet, and seasonal fruits. The main focus is on gelato made with Japanese ingredients. I chose a small cup with three flavors for dessert: "milk," "pear sorbet," and "lemon tea sorbet." I also tried a combination of "milk, tomato sorbet, chestnut." The gelato was beautifully pure white in color. Despite its richness, it had a refreshing taste due to its mild sweetness. The "pear sorbet" highlighted the juicy sweetness of Japanese pears. The "lemon tea sorbet" was a fragrant blend of Earl Grey and lemon. The "salted kelp" was a clever palate cleanser. Even though the cups were small, my gelato cravings were satisfied!

Located about a 2-minute walk from Ebisu Station, this shop was a pleasant surprise to find in Ebisu, as I had seen it in Kyoto before. I visited for dessert after a meal. I ordered a small serving for 500 yen, which included three flavors: kinako black honey, matcha, and hojicha. I also ordered a hojicha latte for 480 yen. Even the small serving was quite generous with three flavors to choose from. I had a hard time deciding, but ended up choosing tea-based flavors. All of the flavors were rich and delicious, but the kinako flavor was particularly outstanding. Surprisingly, all the drinks were sweetened. It was a challenge to finish the sweet gelato and drinks. This shop offers freshly made ice cream, and I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

About a 2-minute walk from Ebisu Station. This shop is always very popular and tends to be crowded. The interior is glass-walled, with white as the main color, making it bright and clean. There are many tea-based menu items, but the most popular ice cream is the milk flavor. Other options include fruit flavors. You can choose three flavors in a cup, and the size changes (small 500 yen, regular 720 yen, large 900 yen). I chose milk, black sugar roasted tea, and sakura red bean in regular size. The sweetness is mild, and it's refreshing to eat. The ice cream comes with a light waffle-like snack, and as a nice touch, they also provide salted kelp for palate cleansing and warm tea.

Located near Ebisu Station, this place is very convenient. You can choose three flavors for 500 yen with a small serving, which is quite cost-effective. The milk (the shop's most popular flavor) and matcha hojicha are safe and delicious choices. They may not be exceptionally delicious, but they are a good value for money, allowing you to enjoy three flavors.

Located a 2-minute walk from Ebisu Station East Exit, Japanese Ice Cream Sakura Hana is a selected shop in the top 100 ice cream and gelato shops. Arriving at the store on Saturday at 2:30 pm, the inside was almost full with customers, and four people were enjoying their gelato on the bench outside. The line for ordering inside the store connected with three people, and I quickly got my turn. I ordered a cup size with regular serving for 720 yen, which included flavors of milk, red bean paste, and apricot. They promptly scooped the gelato into the cup and added a wafer on the side. They placed the cup on a paper napkin with salted kelp to prevent spillage, and served it to me. When I sat at the counter seat, they brought me roasted green tea. Among the gelato flavors, milk was the most popular with its rich milk taste. The red bean paste was a homemade ice cream using Hokkaido red beans, with a mild sweetness and a delicious red bean flavor. The apricot was a rich ice confection made with puree from France. Even with a regular serving, it was quite filling. Finally, I enjoyed the salted kelp. Thank you for the delicious meal.

About a 10-second walk from "Tokyo Butaman," this gelato shop is located on a corner, making it somewhat noticeable but with not many customers. The store is labeled as "Japanese," and the white interior gives off a refined vibe similar to a Korean dessert shop in Okubo. The flavors in the display case have a Japanese twist, which explains the name of the shop. The subdued colors and Japanese essence make sense since the main store is in Kyoto. The staff also exude a certain grace, resonating with the aesthetic sense ingrained in Japanese DNA. The Kyoto Saga Arashiyama store is said to be a cafe combined with a renovated public bathhouse, and I would love to visit it someday. This Ebisu store had been closed for a while due to building renovations, next to the main store of "Sarutahiko Coffee." Smirking at the signs reminiscent of beef bowls or ramen, I selected the cup size and then the flavors. The regular size allows for choosing 3 flavors, while the large size allows for 4. Complimentary hojicha water and salted kelp are served. The interior has counter seating along the walls, where you can enjoy your gelato standing or sitting. Since there are limited high chairs, it's like a silent game of musical chairs. The popular "milk" flavor tastes like a melted Home Run Bar, while the red bean paste flavor is familiar and easy to like. The pear gelato, which comes out in autumn, tastes like a pear-flavored GariGari Kun popsicle, refreshing and juicy. Despite the unimpressive combination I randomly chose, it was a winning taste. The subtle presence of salted kelp next to the plate is cool. Following the routine of gelato, salted kelp, and hojicha tea makes for a satisfying experience. With many inbound tourists in the area, one wonders if they would appreciate this combination. The name "Sakurahana" may bring to mind horse racing for some, but for me, it evoked thoughts of kamikaze squadrons...

I couldn't decide between the parfait and the small serving (milk, black sugar roasted tea, fig ice cream), but I ended up choosing the small serving because I couldn't pick just one of the three. It was very rich and delicious, just the way I like it! The salted kelp for palate cleansing was also a nice touch.

This ice cream shop offers flavors like black sugar kinako milk and hojicha, but the taste is not overpowering. The ice cream is rich and satisfying, even in a small portion. Surprisingly, even the small size is quite generous. The variety of flavors like salted kombu and hojicha are a nice touch for those looking to avoid overly sweet options.

The nearest location is in Ebisu and sometimes there is a line. The shop offers a variety of Japanese-style ice creams and shakes, such as red bean, matcha, hojicha, and Japanese chestnut. Despite that, it seems that milk is the most popular choice everywhere. If you choose to eat in, they provide tea and salted kelp for a perfect post-meal care. The photo shows Japanese chestnut, milk tea, and milk flavors.

Ebisu Japanese Ice Cream Sakura on Tabelog ★★★☆☆ 3.74, Google Rating ★★★★☆ 4.4, Personal Rating ★★★★☆ 4.0
Introduction:
A Japanese-style ice cream shop located a 2-minute walk from Ebisu Station, with a branch also in Kyoto. The interior has a modern Japanese atmosphere with white tones, and there is seating available for eating in. The small flowers decorating the tables were cute and lovely.
Menu:
Ordered the Three-Flavor Ice Cream with the most popular flavors being Milk, Matcha, and Kinako Black Honey. Milk was creamy with a gentle sweetness, while Matcha was rich and flavorful. The Kinako Black Honey, a classic Japanese combination, had a balanced sweetness and was very delicious. When dining in, they also serve Houjicha and Salted Kombu for a nice touch of refreshment and warmth. It was a thoughtful gesture that added to the charm of the place.

Even though I was already full from eating udon, I couldn't resist stopping by and ended up getting three types of ice cream for 500 yen. This time, I chose chestnut red bean, milk, and mango flavors. Despite the hot weather outside, the refreshing sweetness was delicious. It came with roasted green tea and salted kelp. There are about 8 stool seats inside the shop, and luckily I was able to find a seat. This place always serves delicious food. There are many foreigners here too! I'll probably end up coming back if I'm in the area again.

I love the carefully made ice cream in Japan... There are many ice cream shops that are particular about their products, but I don't see many shops that call themselves Japanese ice cream shops... (I feel like I hear about Italy, New York, and Paris?) It's really nice to be able to choose 3 flavors for 500 yen in a small size... Is this real...?! If you eat in, they give you salted kelp and tea... Is this real...!? - Chestnut Azuki: It's still hot, but the season for autumn flavors is starting to show up! I wonder when the pumpkin will come... I chose this autumn-like flavor. The texture of the chestnut, the sweetness, and the gentle sweetness of the azuki beans are delicious. - Cherry Blossom Azuki: Is this available all year round?! I love cherry blossom ice cream... The salted cherry blossoms with a hint of salt, the soft sweetness of the milk ice cream, and the accent of the azuki beans, it's so delicious... Everything is harmonious... It tastes like peace... - Prune Sorbet: I decided to try something refreshing. Limited time only. It's refreshing but has a rich sweetness. Hmm, even this sorbet type is delicious... Eating ice cream in the beautifully decorated eat-in space with flowers is happiness. Flowers are the embodiment of hospitality and I read that in a book. Maybe this Japanese ice cream is also about such thoughtfulness... I hope it never disappears... I will come back to eat pumpkin ice cream. Definitely.

Cream Anmitsu for ¥750. Wait a minute, where's my ice cream? Just noticed now, so sad. There are seats available, but they are a bit cramped, mostly counter seats facing the window. I went around 5 pm and it was empty, but by the time I left, it was packed with many foreigners.
