It has been featured on TV a few times so I'm thinking of trying it out. The sashimi platter, chawanmushi, and grilled fish might not be the best value for money. The drinks are also on the expensive side. However, the eel bowl is definitely delicious. If you make a reservation, you get a private room and the drinks come quickly. It's a bit pricey but it's not bad for going with relatives or family.

We have been using this restaurant every other month, and this month we celebrated my mother-in-law's birthday with 8 people including children in a private room. The staff we like is very efficient and friendly. The liver, shirayaki, osechi, tempura, and mozuku were all delicious and we were very satisfied.

I visit my favorite restaurant every other month. The private rooms are spacious with a calm atmosphere, the staff are always smiling and respond to my silly jokes, creating a cheerful mood. The food is always satisfying. During the pandemic, I used their takeout service, but dining in the private room with food and drinks is the best.

The grilled liver (750 yen) was big and delicious. We also ordered the liver sashimi separately, so together with the eel rice bowl, the total came to just under 12,000 yen for two people. The eel rice bowl had a bit less rice but plenty of sauce, which gave the impression that there was too much sauce. The eel was large and tasty. Thank you for the meal. I forgot to take photos of the eel rice bowl and liver sashimi.

When I want to eat eel, I usually go to Unatei in Asakusa, but sometimes I also visit Oowada in Hikifune. They have banquet rooms, so I sometimes visit as a member of a festival committee. This time, I visited after the lifting of the state of emergency. Despite the challenges faced by all restaurants, they managed to overcome them. The eel liver is delicious.

In the summer, there is a day called "Doyo no Ushi" which is a day to eat eel. There is a theory that this tradition originated from a promotional campaign by the Dutch scholar Hiraga Gennai during the Edo period. Eel was not selling well in the summer as it was considered too heavy, so eel shop owners consulted Hiraga Gennai for advice. He suggested putting up a sign saying "Today is Doyo no Ushi Day," which attracted customers who were intrigued by the unfamiliar phrase. This led to an increase in sales during the summer, and other eel shops also adopted this practice. While the true reason for this tradition is uncertain, it is said that eel is actually most delicious in winter. Regardless, when it gets hot, many people crave eel. I decided to have eel for dinner while on the train to work. The restaurant I chose is called "Warakuya Unagi Kabayaki Mukojima Yamada," located about a 10-minute walk from my office. This was my first time reviewing the restaurant as I hadn't started using food review websites back then. The restaurant is located in a residential area with no other shops nearby, so it may surprise first-time visitors. Upon arrival, I saw children playing outside the restaurant, which was a heartwarming sight. I ordered a daikon and dried fish salad as a starter and waited for the eel to arrive. The eel, which came from Kagoshima, was served with wasabi and soy sauce, and it was rich in flavor. The eel was well-cooked and delicious, and the eel box, which was lacquered with urushi from Wajima, had a beautiful design. The rice was cooked perfectly, and the liver was also very tasty. Eating eel in the summer is believed to boost immunity and aid in fatigue recovery due to its rich vitamins. The restaurant, established in 1920, is a long-standing establishment that has been passed down to the third generation. It is loved by the locals and continues to thrive despite its remote location. The restaurant has spacious tatami rooms for gatherings, although the use of such spaces has decreased significantly. Overall, the restaurant offers a traditional dining experience with delicious eel dishes that are worth trying.

Last Wednesday, I got caught by my daughter for eating eel in Asakusa, so I had to reluctantly take her to an eel restaurant and got attacked. I didn't want to sit at the restaurant, so I called the day before to reserve a table only. The restaurant opened at 11:30, so I was the first to arrive. As expected, more customers came in later and the table seats were quickly filled. First, I ordered tuna and eel sashimi. Unfortunately, they didn't have eel rolls on the menu, and they were out of grilled eel liver. I also ordered a tempura assortment, followed by an eel rice bowl (pine) and a separate order of grilled eel liver. Everything I ate was delicious. The restaurant is located just off the main street, in a hidden spot that only locals probably know about, so I was able to enjoy a peaceful meal. Thank you for the meal, I will visit again.

The interior of the store has been renovated and is clean. It is spacious, so it can accommodate a large number of people. In addition to eel, they offer a variety of dishes such as tempura, salad, and grilled chicken, so you can enjoy a variety of options. They also have a wide selection of alcoholic beverages. The eel, whether grilled or boiled, was delicious and juicy. The sea cucumber vinegar appetizer was so tasty that I wanted seconds. It's a bit of a walk from the station, but I want to go back because I couldn't try the grilled eel liver.

Thanks to my daughter treating me, we had a satisfying meal at Stamina Unagi with almost no other customers, practically having the place to ourselves. Being able to have a drink with my daughter in the evening is such a happiness.

The eel was decently delicious, neither good nor bad. It would have been better if it was grilled a bit more fragrantly. The sauce was slightly on the sweet side.

On a certain midsummer holiday, feeling a bit sluggish, we decided to have some eel, so we visited "Owada" with our family. It was around 11:30 AM, with 2 customers already seated and 3 more coming in, mostly locals. We were seated at a table and looked at the menu, trying to decide what to order. The tricky part for us is that everyone in our family wants something different. My companion ordered the "unaju (large)" for 4030 yen, while my partner ordered the same for 4030 yen as well. I opted for the "unaju (medium)" for 2170 yen, along with some liver soup for 410 yen. It took some time for the dishes to arrive, probably because we didn't make a reservation. We waited for about 20-30 minutes before the food was served. The difference between the large and medium eel dishes seemed to be the size of the eel itself and the amount of fat on it. The rice portion also varied between the sizes. The medium size might be more suitable for women. Personally, I thought the large size might be a bit heavy for me, so the medium size was just right. The taste was excellent, although it may be a bit pricey. I couldn't complain about the quality. Despite saying all this, I thoroughly enjoyed the liver soup. It's been a while since I had something like that. The liver soup wasn't included in the large eel dish, so it was a separate order. The taste was great, and I hope to be able to eat eel more regularly in the future. Thank you for the meal.

I treated myself to eel for lunch on Sunday. It was a luxurious meal. It's a 7-minute walk from Hikifune Station, but the restaurant is located in a residential area with winding streets, so I wouldn't have found it without Google Maps. It's not located on a street with a row of shops, but in a residential area in the old town, so it's a bit hard to find. I made a reservation just in case, but it seemed like you could walk in without one. There weren't many tables near the entrance, and I thought it was a bit cramped, but there were two or three spacious tatami rooms in the back, which were being used by family groups (with small children). The place was clean and well-maintained.
I had the Unaju set meal for 4,530 yen, which included chawanmushi, sashimi, tempura, grilled eel (bamboo), soup, pickles, and dessert. The chawanmushi was silky smooth, the sashimi was fresh and fatty, and everything besides the eel was delicious. The eel itself was of course delicious. It was thick and fluffy. Personally, I thought the sauce could be a bit sweeter (for the rice), but the soy sauce-based flavor was strong and very tasty. It was a very well-balanced and delicious eel restaurant.

If you walk through the residential area towards the Sumida River from the Hikifune Station, you will find a hidden gem of a restaurant called "Owada" in the Koto neighborhood. This eel restaurant offers affordable lunch options during the day and course meals and a la carte dishes in the evening. The restaurant attracts a diverse range of customers, from locals to those who make a special trip to visit. I finally had the opportunity to visit this restaurant for the first time with my parents. The interior was spacious with several private tatami rooms, giving off a ryokan-like atmosphere. We ordered the "Unagi Juu (Matsu)" which came with a single eel in a tiered box. The portion was just right, not too much or too little. While the eel was delicious, I personally prefer the crispy texture of grilled eel from my hometown in the Tokai region. Nonetheless, I appreciated the unique steamed eel preparation at Owada. The differences in eel preparation styles between the east and west regions of Japan are quite interesting and reflect the diversity of Japanese culinary traditions. Overall, Owada is a great restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and delicious food that attracts both local and distant customers.

This is an eel restaurant, so let's cheers with a highball! Oh, the appetizer is a yuba salad. Truly elegant, just as expected from a traditional high-class establishment. The edamame is also exceptional, boiled fresh upon ordering! It's delicious and fluffy. The regular here recommended the Torikara, which is also very refined. It seems to be thinly sliced chicken fried in a unique way, very tasty! On certain days they have grilled liver, and luckily we got to try it today. It's a bit bitter but delicious! Oh, here comes something!! Grilled eel, of course, we can't leave without trying the eel at an eel restaurant! Eel and cucumber vinegar dish, the eel's fluffiness is amazing! This fluffy eel vinegar dish is a first for me, absolutely delicious! Certified!! Everyone seems to be switching to Hakkaisan, interesting sake cups indeed! Oh, the eel rice bowl is here! A whole eel in the bowl, the chopsticks sink into the softness of the eel. Eel is truly delicious! The liver is huge! The liver dish is an optional add-on for 410 yen. Satisfied with the eel liver dish!! Now, as usual, it's time for some ladder drinking!

We were brought all the way to this restaurant to enjoy some incredibly delicious eel. It was nighttime, so we could see the Skytree beautifully from the front of the restaurant. The inside of the restaurant had a cozy, homey feel to it, as if it had been renovated from a house. It seemed like many of the customers were locals. We toasted with some grilled eel liver and grilled eel with salt. The grilled eel with just the right amount of fat, topped with wasabi, was amazing. Whenever we go to an eel restaurant, we tend to get a little full by the time the grilled eel on rice arrives. We always ask for less rice in our eel bowl. I forgot the exact grade, but there was plenty of eel covering the rice. The broiled eel had a rich layer of fat and went perfectly with the rice and sake. The staff at the restaurant were very kind and had a fun, lively attitude. We had a great time and would love to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

This is my second visit to this restaurant. The first visit was by chance, but the deliciousness stayed with me, so my husband and I decided to make the trip to Horikiri again. Just to eat eel! That's all. In the hot summer, I always crave eel. Even though eel is not in season in the summer, it's worth it at Hiraga Gennai. The walk from Horikiri Station, under the scorching sun, takes about 10 minutes. Once seated, we started with the customary beer toast! Grilled eel, horse mackerel sashimi, pickled eel, eel rice bowl (pine), and eel liver. We couldn't order the eel liver, which was disappointing. The grilled eel is served with wasabi soy sauce, and even in the summer, it has enough fat. The steaming is just right, and it cuts cleanly with chopsticks. You can tell the chef puts a lot of care into their work. After the fatty grilled eel and horse mackerel sashimi, a refreshing bite of pickled eel was perfect. The balance of acidity and sweetness is excellent. Even though I thought I couldn't eat anymore, the eel rice bowl was irresistible... The sauce here is on the sweeter side. The rice might be a bit soft for the eel rice bowl. The savory aroma of the grilled eel and the sweetness of the sauce are perfectly balanced, and the eel liver clears the palate after the sweetness. The sauce is not just sweet but has a complex and gentle flavor that is incredibly delicious! It was a luxurious and relaxing time with eel and sake in the middle of the day. Thank you for the feast.

Lunchtime has arrived. I was impressed by the delicious eel. When I tried the grilled eel with a little wasabi, the fluffy texture was irresistible. I ordered the spring menu item, tempura of bamboo shoots and rapeseed blossoms, which had a gentle spring-like flavor. The variety of appetizers that go well with alcohol made me very happy. I ordered a beer and then enjoyed two glasses of shochu on the rocks. The cold tofu and miso-glazed eggplant were perfect with the drinks. Lastly, I ordered eel rice bowl and liver sashimi. I didn't expect to be so impressed by the liver sashimi, it was delicious. Without a doubt, this is a restaurant I want to visit again.
