On New Year's Day, I went to a shrine for Hatsumode (first shrine visit of the year) for nearly 15 minutes and then I've been a shut-in. Today, I went on a lunch date with my beloved wife as usual. It's common sense that not many restaurants are open on January 2nd, but there are some restaurants open in the shopping mall from today. One of them is "Kisen Tei" in Midtown. What a relief. We entered at 12:15. We didn't make a reservation, but miraculously there were two seats available at the counter. For lunch, they offer sets and courses. The difference between a set and a course is that a course includes an appetizer platter (3 kinds) and a soup. The weather is nice today, so the view of Roppongi and Nogizaka area through the glass beyond the teppanyaki counter is beautiful. We ordered while enjoying a sake in a masu cup. My wife chose the lunch course with a fillet steak, with a meat upgrade from 150g to 250g, and I chose the lunch course with a sirloin steak, with a meat upgrade from 150g to 300g. Isn't that too much to eat? When you feel unsatisfied with lunch sets like teppanyaki, steak, or yakiniku, do you ever feel that way? I always go for the upgrade! By the way, in this restaurant, you can upgrade fillet or sirloin by 10g increments for 770 yen each! It's a system that meat lovers can't resist. The appetizers arrived in no time. I'm sorry, I've already had too much to drink, and I forgot to write down the description of the appetizers. There was something crab, something beef, and broccoli, I think. What I remember is that each flavor was different but the balance of the three dishes was good, not too strong. It's increasing my appetite. It's like an aperitif of appetizers. I've never experienced this kind of feeling before. The soup is clam and kelp broth soup. It's an appetizer soup. The clams are from Chiba Prefecture. They are so big! The soup has more umami than I expected. The gentle sea aroma enhances the gentle taste of the soup. Following the appetizers and soup, the salad and grilled vegetables arrived. The dressing of the salad enhances the flavor of the vegetables and is delicious. Surprisingly, you can have seconds of the salad. My wife had seconds... she's amazing. The grilled vegetables were yam, something horenso (spinach), and shiitake mushroom. The crunchy yam was delicious. The horenso goes well with butter. The thick shiitake mushroom can be enjoyed twice, once with the cap and once with the crunchy stem. This is great, this feeling! I can't wait to eat the meat! The main dish is served. Salt, wasabi, and ponzu with grated daikon... these items double the deliciousness of the meat! The chef's recommendation is wasabi. Oh no, this meat is melting. And this meat is so delicious that you can eat it as it is. Many steaks have a strong flavor with various seasonings, but the steak here is simply... the deliciousness of subtraction. The harmony of the deliciousness of the meat's material and the spices that do not interfere with it! The best! The dessert is caramel ice cream and strawberry mousse. It's refreshing! This place is highly recommended. I want to come back here again tomorrow. Thank you for the meal. It looks like it's going to be a great year!
