I visited at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and was able to place my order in a few minutes with a wait for 2 people. I purchased the following items:
- Croissant for 288 yen: A crispy and fluffy croissant with a buttery taste.
- Seaweed salt butter bread for 238 yen: A chewy bread with a balanced flavor of salt and wheat.
- Anpan for 238 yen: A mildly sweet red bean paste filling with a fluffy dough.
- Salt butter anpan for 248 yen: A combination of butter and red bean paste that reminds me of Nagoya, with a subtle saltiness.
- Bean bread for 240 yen: A popular bread with plenty of beans and a chewy dough. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

Visited at 3:30 PM on September 3, 2023. 'Hamada-ya' is a bakery located in Setagaya, Tokyo, which has been selected as one of the top 100 bakeries in Japan. I bought some bread, focusing on the most popular bean bread, before heading to Nara for a business trip. As always, the bread from this bakery did not disappoint, each one delicious and full of flavor. Thank you for the meal.

[Doupan] Personally, this is the type of bread that I would never try, but since it seemed like a signature menu item at this shop, I decided to buy it. It has a subtle salty taste. It's sweet and salty, and now that I think about it, it does resemble a salty soybean rice cake. However, it doesn't have red bean paste in it. It would be nice if it did have red bean paste... [Grape bread] There are a few raisins scattered on the surface, but as someone who likes bread with lots of raisins, this was a complete miss for me. [Other] It's convenient that they accept payment through PayPay. The staff were friendly.

I had some errands in Sancha, so I decided to visit this bakery that I had been curious about. The store is very small, only enough space for about two groups of people. They don't have tongs, so you have to pick up the bread in plastic bags with your own hands. The "Mamepan" and "Sunrise" breads are popular here. All the bread has a simple and rustic feel to it. The Mamepan uses good quality beans with a nice salty flavor. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy from here, but if it was in my neighborhood, I might consider getting some.

Potato: 238 yen
Bread: 130 yen
Arrived on Sunday around 10 o'clock. No customers in the store. Some bread is in bags, while others you have to ask the staff to get for you. There are a decent variety of bread, but not a wide selection.
I bought some that looked delicious and some simple ones.
Potato: The warmth from the bag suggests they are freshly made. I ate them right away while walking. The bread smells delicious and is soft and warm. There is a generous amount of mayonnaise on top, which is hot and slightly creamy. Inside, there is plenty of mashed potatoes. The combination of mayo and potato is excellent.
Bread: I took it home to eat later in the evening. It is shaped like burger buns, so I cut it in half and lightly warmed it in the microwave to make it fluffy. I filled it with various fillings and ate it like a burger. It's a simple and delicious bread that you can easily customize.

The bakery at this famous store. I heard their bean bread is the best... Wow, it's seriously delicious! It's like a cross between daifuku and bread... incredibly chewy, with just the right balance of saltiness and sweetness... Even though I'm not a big fan of beans, I enjoyed it. It's perfectly fluffy and cooked, just amazing...

The bread overall was chewy! What surprised me the most was the egg sandwich! It was labeled as a Japanese-style egg sandwich, and I was wondering what made it Japanese-style...? But when I tried it, I was amazed! It had pickled radish inside! It was crunchy and surprisingly delicious! The croquette bread was square in shape, resembling a curry bread, with a croquette inside! It had sauce on top and was delicious!

This was the bakery I was most looking forward to visiting during my cafe hopping in Sangenjaya. When I arrived, I was surprised to see that the exterior looked like an izakaya entrance. I couldn't believe it until I went inside and saw the display of bread. Everything had a Japanese-style taste. I was like, "Oh, I see" and felt convinced. The red bean bread, walnut bread, and Sunrise red bean bread are recommended. After taking a bite, I was amazed by the deliciousness. As I continued eating, the feeling of being impressed lasted until the end. The red bean bread is probably the most delicious bread I've ever had, and my family loved the walnut bread. The Sunrise bread is just a regular melon bread.

I first visited this place in 2004 and was shocked by how delicious it was! However, I haven't been back in about 10 years. Today, I bought curry donuts, bean bread, and cheese bread. I remember there used to be a wider variety of Danish pastries that were really delicious. Today, they were not available. When I got home, the bean bread was as delicious as I remembered, but the curry donuts and cheese bread were just okay. It seems like the restaurant has expanded and become more efficient, but maybe the taste has suffered as a result. Thank you for the meal.

Visited on July 22, 2023 at 9:20 am. There was one customer inside the shop. The shop is not very spacious, so I waited outside for 2-3 minutes. I purchased the popular items: Bean Bread (240 yen), Sunrise (Melon Bread, 238 yen), and Curry Donut (238 yen). The Sunrise had a fine texture and fluffy taste. The Curry Donut had a slightly more liquid curry filling. Overall, they were all delicious in a simple way.

I have mentioned in a previous review of another store, but there are many delicious bakeries in the city, and since I am not knowledgeable about bread, I feel that each one is decent. This time, the curry bread, melon bread, and red bean paste bread all gave me the same impression, but I think it's because I always buy orthodox items, making it difficult to appreciate their goodness.

Sanen-Chaya, a 5-minute walk from the Hamadaya main store, is famous for its side dishes and bread. Their most popular item is the bean bread! I purchased two curry breads this time. The curry flavor is rich and delicious. The bean bread has a distinct salty taste with a fluffy texture. The melon bread is soft and has a unique flavor. The kinpira burdock bread is a great match and delicious. The croquette bread is beyond just bread. Hamadaya has several stores in Tokyo, but I visited the main store in Sangenjaya for the first time and it was great!

I happened to pass by a nice-looking shop and decided to go in. They had a variety of breads and I had a hard time choosing what to eat. I ended up getting the Sunrise melon bread and the potato bread, both of which were delicious. The Sunrise melon bread was soft and chewy, a new and tasty experience. The potato bread had chunks of potatoes in it, which I love, and it was really delicious. My partner had the braised pork belly and cream bread, and they also enjoyed them. I would like to visit again and try other breads.

I visited for the first time and arrived at 12:20 with no other customers. I purchased a braised pork bun for 346 yen. The shop is small, and it feels crowded with 2-3 customers inside. The surface of the dough is slightly hard, but the inside has a chewy texture, with two 2-centimeter braised pork pieces inside. It was quite authentic and delicious. It was a fresh and delicious combination that I had never tried before. Since it is a small size, I think you can enjoy eating multiple Japanese-style buns. It was very delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I noticed this bakery on my way to get shaved ice and decided to stop by. I bought a five-slice loaf, a corn bread, and an anko croissant. The sign said the anko croissant was almost sold out. I reheated the croissant at home and it was delicious - the sesame seeds were fragrant, the pastry was crispy, and it had a unique filling of anko and mochi. I'm glad I bought it before it sold out. The corn bread was soft and the loaf felt fluffy and fine-textured, so I wanted to eat it as is, but I didn't have room in my stomach, so I toasted it the next day. It was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and it was also delicious. I would definitely come back for more if I have the chance.

The last stop on the morning bread walk in Sangenjaya is Hamada-ya Honten. Although I have visited some of their branch stores before, this was my first time at the main store. The entrance has a cool Japanese-style look that doesn't immediately scream bakery. The interior is quite small. I decided to skip the items I had already tried at the other stores and went for the "Ume Shiso Chicken" bread at the counter. The combination of salty umeboshi and crispy shiso leaves was quite unique. It was my first time trying bread with bean sprouts inside, and it was an interesting experience. This place is definitely a pioneer in Japanese-style bread.

Hamaedaya is a small bakery located a short walk from Sangenjaya Station, along the main street. The shop has a traditional Japanese atmosphere both inside and out. The interior is not very spacious, only accommodating 2-3 customers at a time. They offer a variety of Japanese-style bread, using ingredients that are popular among Japanese people. I purchased a curry donut and a focaccia with edamame and cheese. The curry in the donut was delicious, with a rich sauce and perfect size and crispiness. The focaccia with edamame and cheese was a refreshing combination, perfect for summer. Heating it up made it soft, allowing the flavors of the cheese and edamame to stand out. Overall, I felt that this bakery offered comforting and delicious bread that reminded me of the kind we grew up eating in Japan.

This is a popular bakery in Sangenjaya. I realized after buying that it is actually related to the shop "Mitsuru" in Akebonobashi. In fact, Hamadaya here is the main store, and "Mitsuru" is considered a sister store. Just like "Mitsuru," this bakery has a cozy and friendly atmosphere with a Japanese touch. Their most popular item is the Anko Bun. Everything was delicious, but personally, I preferred the Bacon and Ham Croissant. The Ham Croissant is a croissant filled with ham wrapped in cheese. The crispy texture combined with the ham flavor and gooey cheese creates a unique croissant experience.

This popular restaurant becomes full when 2 or 3 people enter. Their Sunrise (melon bread) and bean bread are must-try items. Even their side dish breads are surprisingly delicious. It's hard not to buy too much when you visit this place.
