I read the review by "Sekinori" in September 2012 and thought, "This place is definitely a winner, there's no way it could be a disappointment. Let's try it next time." Today was the perfect opportunity for a solo meal in Kagurazaka, so I decided to go without a reservation. If it was full, I could always go somewhere else. Looking at the map, I headed towards "Oishinbo"... This area is so lovely, with several charming looking restaurants. I almost changed my mind and went somewhere else, but I resisted the temptation and went to "Oishinbo." The restaurant was surrounded by a black fence, giving it a charming appearance. Although I didn't like the fact that various menu items were posted outside. The interior was nice, probably because it used to be an old teahouse, giving it a unique atmosphere. Luckily, there was a seat available at the counter. They had a wide variety of sake options, but for some reason, I always look at the sake menu first. The staff was waiting for orders behind me, so I quickly looked at the food menu. I remembered the "Nombei Tsumami Set" mentioned in Sekinori's review and decided to go for that. It's not on the menu and doesn't have a name, Sekinori named it. The chef selects 6-7 items and serves them on a tray, like a bento box. The set included dishes like "Miso-marinated bonito," "Shime sanma with grated daikon," "Suna liver steamed in sauce," and more. All perfect for a drinker like me. I couldn't resist and ended up drinking 3 cups of sake. I also ordered "Grilled sea urchin" with chestnut, dried persimmon, and walnut bonito flakes. The chef, Goto-san, was friendly, and the staff were always smiling and attentive. I really liked this place, whether dining alone or with my wife. I'll definitely come back with her next time, she'll love it too. I'm quite drunk now, so I should probably leave. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I visited around 7:00 PM on a regular day and made a reservation. It is located in a quaint alley in Kagurazaka with a charming entrance. It used to be a traditional Japanese restaurant, giving off a house-like vibe. I passed through the noren curtain, took off my shoes, and headed to my seat. The tatami room is not very spacious with table seating available. You can see the garden, creating a nice atmosphere. I sat down, looked at the menu, and placed my order. I ordered a variety of dishes, all of which had a subtle flavor that was quite delicious. The dishes that stood out to me were the appetizers: simmered vegetables, sesame tofu, and grated yam with spicy cod roe. They were all refreshing and set a good tone for the rest of the meal. The three side dishes were simple yet packed with traditional Japanese flavors. The yuba fondue had a strong cheese flavor but was still enjoyable. The "hana fūsen" dish was interesting, resembling fried fu (wheat gluten), and the homemade tofu was like regular cotton tofu but smaller in size. I opted for the salmon and salmon roe rice cooked in a clay pot, which was fluffy and tasty without any burnt bits. The sake and wine selection was good, although slightly pricey, but still reasonable for Kagurazaka. This place is recommended for those looking for a light and refreshing Japanese meal with dishes like yuba and side dishes. The ambiance of the restaurant is pleasant, with a traditional Japanese counter as well. There were no solo diners, mostly adults dining in pairs or groups, enjoying delicious food and drinks.

This is my first visit to Oishinbo in Kagurazaka for a while. Last time, I had the set meal for lunch, but this time I ordered a la carte. I had a vegetable dish, chef's choice of side dishes, yuba spring rolls, and miso eggplant. The food was elegant, delicious, and had a great atmosphere. A la carte is also quite good here. I enjoyed the meal very much! Thank you for the feast! (^^)

On a regular night, we sat in a small room with tatami table seats, the room was dimly lit with a stone-paved entrance, giving off a Kagurazaka vibe. We enjoyed our meal slowly with sake, including marinated Manjanshi Togarashi grilled and assorted sashimi. The Namafu Dango was also cute and the finale of clay pot cooked rice was delicious.

I made a reservation and visited the restaurant. I felt a nostalgic atmosphere as if I had come to my grandmother's house, and I was able to enjoy a relaxing lunch. I had the Yuba-dzukushi Gozen, and the Yuba cream croquette was amazing. I would love to visit again! 😊

I had a Yuba Kaiseki meal. It was centered around Yuba, but the taste and portion were satisfying! In addition to the course, I added seasonal items. The Conger Eel Tempura was fluffy and it felt like I was eating delicious Conger Eel after a long time. I also enjoyed delicious sake with Sake Sugoroku.

I came here after a long time. I think the specialty here is the dishes made with yuba (tofu skin), and you can enjoy various delicious options. The old house atmosphere is nice, and the hostess? provides great service that matches well with it, making you feel the essence of Japan. The fact that the restaurant is a bit hidden adds to the charm.

We gathered at this restaurant with former colleagues from the same department. We used the early discount plan starting at 5:30 pm. The course menu included: 1) assorted appetizers including grilled Kinme sardine, 2) Yuba sashimi, 3) tempura (shrimp, eggplant, Shishito peppers, pumpkin), 4) Sakura sea bream shabu-shabu, 5) white rice and pickles. Younger people may find it a bit lacking, but for our age group, it was sufficient. However, I felt that the drink menu for the all-you-can-drink option was somewhat limited. Still, at 5,000 yen (tax included) for 2 hours of all-you-can-drink, it was quite a good deal.

The food was delicious and safe, but the male staff member was a bit unfriendly. The yuba cream croquette had a cheese-like flavor and a crispy coating, which was quite tasty. The tea served had a slightly off taste, but they replaced it with a delicious one, so it was okay in the end.

On a hot day in July... I arrived a little earlier than the opening time and was greeted by the lovely sounds of wind chimes, morning glories, and lanterns at the wonderful restaurant "Oishinbo". I visited for a friend's birthday lunch. The interior of the Japanese house was a cozy space that made me feel nostalgic. This time, I ordered the set menu "Yuba and Tempura Set - Kyoto Style" for 2,800 yen, and added an extra order of Yuba cream croquette. The dishes focused on Yuba were fantastic, with the Yuba really shining through. Especially the soup and croquette allowed us to truly enjoy the taste of Yuba, which delighted my friend who loves Yuba. The service was also attentive and we were able to enjoy our meal comfortably! I look forward to visiting at night next time.

I visited this Japanese restaurant with my family, including my mother who had recently suffered a broken bone. We had made a reservation for a table, but upon arrival, we were seated in a tatami room instead. The staff explained that they consider tatami seating as part of their "table seating" category. Despite the confusion, we decided to stay and ordered various dishes including yuba spring rolls, fried fu with miso, yuba cream croquettes, yuba and vegetable hot pot, conger eel tempura, and buttered corn rice in a clay pot. The standout dishes were the fried fu with miso, the yuba cream croquettes, the conger eel tempura, and the buttered corn rice. Overall, the food was delicious and reasonably priced, but the initial seating confusion left a negative impression. A simple apology would have made a difference.

Visited on Saturday at 12:30 with a reservation. The appearance of the old folk house-style storefront raised expectations. Taking off my shoes and stepping inside, I briefly hesitated, thinking "Did I have any holes in my socks... If it's a tatami room, sitting in seiza would be painful..." but both concerns were quickly dispelled by the appearance of the small room I was led to. The room had three 2-person tables (chair seating), a small garden with deer ornaments, and the tatami mats I walked on with my socks on had a pleasant smell, creating a comfortable atmosphere. Both the exterior and interior had a nice ambiance. Important to note again, both the exterior and interior had a nice ambiance. [Menu Ordered] Price: 2300 yen (tax included) Signature Lunch: Yuba Assortment Lunch "Kyomai" Recommended lunch featuring dishes made with the famous yuba (tofu skin) from Oishinbo. - Colorful appetizer - Famous yuba cream croquette - Yuba salad - Seasonal side dish - Yuba rice with sauce The presentation was beautiful, typical of Japanese cuisine, and the taste was... honestly average. Despite being labeled as a "yuba assortment," I didn't feel like I could fully enjoy the yuba, and above all, the taste was... well, just "delicious in a normal way." However, the atmosphere was great. It didn't feel too formal, more like a house from the early Showa period. Tatami and wooden houses really bring a sense of calm... must be in the Japanese DNA. The dishes didn't have a significant impact, but the price was fair, and considering the atmosphere, the value for money is good. If this dish was served at a regular diner, 2300 yen would seem expensive, but enjoying lunch in this atmosphere makes it very reasonable. I usually rate the "overall" score on Tabelog almost the same as the "food/taste," but this time, the high rating for "atmosphere" pushed the "overall" score up. I recommend this place for hanging out with close friends or couples. It could also be perfect for bringing along friends from overseas! However, there are many restaurants with a great atmosphere in this area. Popular restaurants on Tabelog often have long lines, but they all seem pretty delicious. If you have the time, I'd like to explore some new places.

I visited this restaurant for the first time based on my friend's request. We made a reservation for seats through Tabelog and decided to choose our dishes after we arrived. When you approach from the Kagurazaka side, you will find yourself walking through narrow alleyways that may make you wonder if you are going the right way. I was intrigued by the Yuba Cream Croquette, while my friend wanted to try the Kyoto Tempura set meal called "Kyoten". So, we ordered the set meal and added the Yuba Cream Croquette and Yuba Sashimi as side dishes. The Yuba Cream Croquette comes in a set of two, so we shared one which was just enough for us. We were served hot tea, but since it was a hot day, I opted for iced oolong tea. The total bill came to 4500 yen per person. The Yuba Cream Croquette and Yuba Sashimi were delicious, but the tempura and Yuba salad (salad topped with crispy Yuba) were just average. I recommend ordering the set meal with Yuba Cream Croquette and adding on other items that catch your eye.

This is a creative cuisine izakaya renovated from an old folk house. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fantastic. It truly captures the essence of Kagurazaka. I enjoyed watching the cooking process at the counter. The must-try dishes are the simmered rice with sea bream, tofu skin cream croquette, and deep-fried wheat gluten.

The miso-braised beef cheek was truly exquisite. It was so tender that scooping it with a spoon was a bit of a challenge, and the cheek meat had absorbed the flavor of the miso sauce so well that it was hard to come by. The fried tofu in sweet miso sauce, a personal favorite, had a crispy exterior and a unique texture inside depending on the flavor. Personally, I liked the chewy texture of the kibi the most. The yuba fondue only started to taste like yuba once it cooled down. It was a bit too intense to eat as is, so adding ingredients might be a good idea. The fried tofu French toast was delicious and innovative, but it was quite different from what I had imagined, and the cost performance was not great. It was just butter-fried with ice cream and maple syrup on top. The beer seemed to be pricey, but the dishes were reasonably priced for creative cuisine.

I made a reservation at GW at 6:00 PM and when I searched on Google Maps, I was guided through a path with stone steps that felt like a hidden route, giving me a Kyoto-like atmosphere. The dishes mainly consisted of tofu, yuba, and wheat gluten, with a wide variety to choose from. Every dish was delicious, and I definitely want to go back again.

One of the representative streets in Kagurazaka, the entrance to Hyogo Yokocho, where I was invited to a farewell party for a young colleague leaving the group to change jobs. Well, um, the taste is average lol, but the renovated old house has a very quaint atmosphere, making it a nice place to enjoy a meal. It seems to be well received by young people and foreign guests. Since it is a chain, the prices are reasonable, making it a great place for a casual drink. The service was good, perhaps we were lucky with the hostess being very thoughtful, making us feel at ease during the meal. We were also served a limited edition Ebisu beer, which was delicious due to its novelty factor. The lineup of sake is decent as well, so I think it would be well received. Now, completely off topic, bidding farewell to the members changing jobs is both reassuring and joyful, but for some reason, perhaps due to personal tendencies or simply because of age, a sense of loneliness inevitably creeps in. Though I still support them, I can't help but wonder if I could have contributed more to their growth, or if they will come back to the group after growing. These thoughts linger as we raise our glasses at Rokusakura in the pleasant night of Kagurazaka. Of course, we continued drinking heavily at the second party lol Sorry for the digression.

I tried to enter a restaurant without a reservation for a drinking party with friends, but it was full. As I was walking away, a woman in a kimono called out to me and said they had a cancellation and could seat us. I was grateful! It was my first time on the second floor, and the atmosphere was lovely with a nice traditional Japanese feel. I enjoyed the limited edition Ebisu beer, which was a bit bitter but very tasty. I ended up getting a refill as well. Thank you for a delicious time.

The image of Kagurazaka is of old-fashioned cobblestone streets and nostalgic traditional Japanese restaurants. However, when looking for a lunch spot, it can be surprisingly expensive. French and Italian restaurants seem to offer more stylish and affordable options. Despite this, if you're going to Kagurazaka, you want a place with a beautiful traditional Japanese interior. After some searching, my companion chose a restaurant that seemed a bit tacky at first but turned out to be quite lovely. The restaurant is located in a maze of narrow streets, giving it a charming atmosphere. Upon entering, we were led to a tatami room, although I would have preferred a table due to my bad knees. The daily special was reasonably priced at 1,000 yen, but I opted for the 2,300 yen Kyoto Dance set, which featured various dishes made with yuba (tofu skin). The menu was interesting and well-structured, although the quality of the rice was lacking. Despite this, the overall experience was enjoyable, and the cobblestone streets of Kagurazaka added to the excitement. The staff wearing traditional Japanese attire was also a nice touch. In conclusion, even though the prices may be slightly high, the restaurant offers a great atmosphere and decent value for money, making it a perfect spot to enjoy the ambiance of Kagurazaka.

On my first visit to a quaint old house-style restaurant in Kagurazaka, I tried their popular Yuba Kaiseki course. The course included appetizers, sashimi (made with yuba), a hot pot dish, yuba sushi rolls for the main course, a dessert, a healthy option, and a glass of draft beer followed by a few glasses of sweet potato shochu with water. The atmosphere was great and it was a fantastic restaurant. We ended up adding an extra dish to the course and ended up spending a little over 30,000 yen for three people.

Tucked away in the back of a cobblestone alley, this hidden gem of a house restaurant exudes a cozy atmosphere. Upon entering, you take off your shoes. I arrived during the regular opening hours without a reservation. When I mentioned that I didn't have a reservation, the staff looked puzzled. It seems that they are usually fully booked with reservations. However, I was still able to get a table. The female owner seemed a bit brusque, maybe because I didn't have a reservation? I was a bit nervous, but she didn't seem angry at all. I ended up ordering the Kyoto-style meal. The cream croquette was surprisingly delicious! The side dishes were also flavorful and went well with the rice. The highlight for me was the tofu rice bowl. You pour the sauce from a bottle over the tofu yourself. However, I made a mistake and the taste was a bit bland. The tofu itself was tasty, especially with the crunchy rice cracker on top, but I should have mixed it properly. It was a bit disappointing that the dish was served cold, it would have been better warm. Also, the rice was a bit sticky and clumped together in some parts, which was not very appetizing. However, everything else was delicious, especially the fried tofu with miso. The atmosphere of the building was lovely, and I think it's good value for money. Would I go back? Yes, I would. That's how I felt about the restaurant.
