The other day, I visited a Sri Lankan restaurant next to the 4D Cafe that caught my interest, and I decided to visit on a Sunday afternoon. As it was a Sunday, the lunch menu was not available, which was a bit disappointing. However, the Sri Lankan curry and rice plate I ordered, called "Authentic Sri Lankan Rice & Curry" with Pork (1,320 yen), turned out to be one of the most delicious and satisfying meals I've had from Sri Lankan cuisine. The plate included basmati rice in the center, with pork curry, and various side dishes surrounding it, each of which was delicious and enjoyable. The gentle lentil curry, spiced pumpkin, greens (probably radish) achar, flavorful cabbage stir-fry, and okra curry. The staff instructed to mix everything together when serving the curry, and with each spoonful, I nodded in approval at the different flavors and aromas. The generous portion allowed me to savor the meal for a long time. Later, I found out that the chef at this restaurant had trained at a high-end hotel restaurant in Sri Lanka, which explained the quality of the food. It was a delightful meal.

After finishing some errands in Takadanobaba and feeling hungry, I mentioned to my companion about this restaurant that had caught my interest before. They were eager to try it out, so we walked from Takadanobaba to visit. Although the restaurant was a bit far from Takadanobaba station, it was still within walking distance. I was intrigued by this place because while there are several Sri Lankan curry restaurants in Tokyo, there are only a few that serve noodle curry, with this one and a certain shop in Jinbocho being the main ones. My friend from Kyushu had recommended trying Kyushu-style Sri Lankan noodle curry, saying it's really delicious, so I became curious. I was surprised to find that there are not many places in Tokyo that offer noodle curry. The restaurant itself was smaller than I had imagined, but that wasn't a problem. I ordered the noodle curry, while my companion ordered the Sri Lankan curry with rice. The flavors were spicy, but overall, the taste was a bit mild for my liking. I might prefer the taste of the curry from the shop in Jinbocho. The rice dish, on the other hand, was filled with plenty of ingredients and had a good amount of volume. We both left the restaurant feeling full and decided to walk back to Takadanobaba to digest.

Wow, I discovered an authentic Sri Lankan restaurant in such an unexpected place. The bottled beer also seemed to be local and delicious. The staff, who spoke Japanese fluently, kindly explained dishes I had never seen or heard of before. The atmosphere is recommended for enjoying with friends.

The restaurant has a bar and a wide selection of alcoholic beverages. I chose a fish curry which was excellent. The curry came with lentils, side dishes of cabbage, green beans, pumpkin, greens with coconut, and papadum. The side dishes were carefully arranged and delicious. Although I am not sure of the exact names like Mallung or Pol Sambol, I enjoyed mixing and trying them all. The flavors were gentle and overall satisfying, but I think it would be even better if the spiciness could be adjusted to personal preference.

I chose the Fish curry at Apsara Restaurant & Bar in Takadanobaba! I love the messy curry from Sri Lanka. I was torn between Falooda, but I ended up having Wattalappam. It was rich and sweet, with a nice kick from cinnamon, cloves, and spices! If you like pudding, you should definitely try it!

I walked about 10 minutes from Takadanobaba and arrived right after the store opened on Sunday. It was the liveliest place, and within 30 minutes, the seats were already full. There were also takeout orders. Despite being a bit far from the station, people gather at good restaurants. I ordered the regular fish curry wrapped in banana leaves. I enjoyed it by combining various curries and side dishes. It's nice to have curry that you can adjust the taste while eating, different from Indian curry. The banana leaf curry seems to be the specialty of the restaurant, but the taste is not significantly different from the regular version. I recommend this restaurant.

I visited the Sri Lankan cuisine restaurant "Apsara Restaurant & Bar" in Nishi Waseda. It was about a 12-minute walk from JR Takadanobaba Station Waseda exit. I arrived just before the opening time of 5 pm, so I was the first customer. I have always been curious about this restaurant, known for its authentic Sri Lankan curry which is slightly different from Indian curry. The exterior and interior of the restaurant create an atmosphere as if you were actually in Sri Lanka. What I had today: - Sri Lankan curry wrapped in banana leaf: ¥1760 - Falooda: ¥638 The "Sri Lankan curry wrapped in banana leaf" was a menu item that I had been curious about. It was steamed inside a banana leaf and had a wonderful aroma. When opened, it revealed basmati rice, several types of curry steamed together, and about 40 kinds of spices used in the dishes. The colorful and vibrant presentation of the dish with a variety of spices and steamed ingredients created a harmonious blend of flavors and aromas that further stimulated my appetite. It tasted similar to Biryani but with a stronger aroma and richer flavors due to the variety of ingredients. This was my first time trying this popular Sri Lankan home-cooked dish, and it was delicious! The "Falooda" dessert consisted of vanilla ice cream, vermicelli jelly, soaked in rose syrup, and a hint of basil seed milk. It was not too sweet and served as a perfect end to the meal after the curry. Sri Lankan curry is less oily compared to Indian curry, but still rich in spices, making it flavorful yet light. It offered a different taste experience compared to Indian curry, and I enjoyed it very much. Overall, it was a delicious meal. Thank you very much.

It's hot, isn't it? I'm in the mood for curry. I visited a clean Sri Lankan restaurant on a weekday night. The place was full of foreigners, including the staff. There were even some people eating with their hands, which got me excited. I started with the original spicy beer, which had chunks of spices floating in it. It had a unique taste. I then ordered the Sri Lankan rice & curry with mutton. The base was coconut curry, with spicy vegetables like pickled mustard greens, curry-flavored lotus root, and spicy radish. There was also red and sweet beets. On top of it all was stir-fried mutton. This was my third time trying Sri Lankan curry, and it was different from Indian or Nepalese curry. It was thick but not heavy, with flavorful spices in the ingredients. It wasn't very spicy, but the spices made me sweat. The chopped mutton in curry sauce was delicious. The rice was probably basmati, fluffy and fragrant. I mixed everything together at the end and left feeling full.

I wanted to eat delicious ethnic food, so I went for lunch with my dad and daughter. The beer had less foam, and the mug was frozen. I chose the chicken curry plate and was told to mix it and eat, but I wanted to savor each flavor slowly. Each dish was carefully handmade, with spices and textures adding important accents. The restaurant was small on the first floor, but spacious and relaxing in the basement. The mixed rice had finely chopped rice noodles, with shrimp, squid, and meat mixed in, creating a delicious and unique flavor. Both dishes were filling, so it might be tough for a woman to finish them alone. I will revisit with my dad or child. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I had Sri Lankan curry wrapped in a banana leaf for 1,760 yen. As soon as I entered the restaurant, I enjoyed the strong aroma of spices. I chose the Sri Lankan curry wrapped in a banana leaf. When I opened the banana leaf, I was greeted with hot steam and the aroma of spices. I mixed it and continued eating. I could taste the spices well and it was delicious.

I had a very delicious Sri Lankan curry! Both the banana leaf wrap and the rice & curry were tasty. The banana leaf wrap had a slightly unique aroma which I preferred. The rice & curry had a spicy kick to it and I even broke a sweat, but it was still gentle on the stomach. I didn't experience any indigestion afterwards. The coconut pudding was not too sweet, slightly firm, and had a generous amount of coconut at the bottom. It was also delicious. The dinner prices are the same as lunch, which is great. I arrived around 6:45 pm on a weekday and was able to get a seat easily, but by 7:30 pm the place was full with reservations and takeout orders. Some customers were told it would be a 1-hour wait and decided to leave. If this restaurant was closer, I would definitely visit regularly.

When you hear about Sri Lanka at the racetrack, it's here! I went around 1 pm on a weekday. I think there are seats on the first floor and basement, but I'm not sure usually, but on this day, the staff was working alone, so it was a bit chaotic. However, the first-floor seats were just available, so I was able to sit down safely. I thought it would be better to get the food quickly because it was crowded... so I ordered the Lamp Rice (banana leaf wrap) without hesitation. After the drink and salad arrived, the Lamp Rice also arrived pretty quickly. Oh... It was similar to the authentic one I had at another shop in Urawa before. In addition to chicken curry, there are various types of teldara, cutlets, and dal packed tightly. The use of spices, not just spicy, gave a more authentic feel than Sri Lankan curry made by Japanese people. This is definitely a dish that tastes much better when mixed. I thought at first, "It's a bit strong in flavor..." but that feeling was short-lived, and I ended up eating it all. It was indeed very delicious, just as rumored. Two girls sitting next to me, who seemed to be exchange students, asked, "Is that delicious?" They said it was their first time trying this type of cuisine, so I suggested, "How about ordering Lamp Rice and a regular Sri Lankan plate to share?" in a very meddlesome manner before leaving my seat before the girls arrived, so I don't know what their reaction was, but I hope they enjoyed it.

Visited the restaurant as soon as it opened. Ordered the chicken curry plate and banana leaf curry. There was also biryani on the menu, which made it a tough choice. The rice at this place is fluffy. Surprisingly, Sri Lankan curry here is moist, unlike the dry ones I've had at other places. The rice is moist with lots of spices, and the bean curry is delicious. It has a subtle heat but not too spicy. The meat is tender and plentiful. The portion of rice is generous, and you'll feel satisfied. Personally, I prefer curries with more distinct flavors and spiciness. Overall, it was a mild curry with a light flavor.

Wow, the taste was beyond my expectations. I was so excited that I found myself focusing on the banana leaf without thinking (laughs). So far, this might be the most delicious Sri Lankan food in Tokyo. I would love to visit again, so I'll keep the score a secret for now (laughs).

Visited the restaurant after 1:00 pm on a public holiday. There was only one group of customers before us, and the restaurant has only four tables, but there seem to be seats downstairs as well. The chef here has trained at a high-class restaurant in Sri Lanka. The menu is diverse, ranging from izakaya-style dishes to authentic ones. Surprisingly, they also have a variety of cocktails like the Godfather and Cassis Oolong. I wonder if Waseda University students have Sri Lankan group dates (laughs). They have my favorite dish, Lamprais! But it seems to be slightly different. It is a curry wrapped in a banana leaf. Although it seemed like it would take time to steam, they served it in about 10 minutes as it was not busy. The Sri Lankan curry wrapped in a banana leaf costs 1760 yen. It comes with papadum on top of a banana leaf, various curries, 40 types of spices, Basmati rice, and a variety of side dishes like beets, lotus root, shimeji mushrooms, croquette-like items, tender chicken, and pineapple. With so many ingredients, every spoonful offers a different taste, making it enjoyable. The curry has a distinct spiciness. Sri Lanka uses bonito to make dashi, so I think Japanese people would find it delicious as well, but I didn't detect the aroma of bonito dashi in this dish. Now, I'm off to the cafe diagonally across for a parfait!

On May 2, 2023, during the Golden Week holiday, I revisited Apsara because I felt like having a quick and satisfying dinner. When I arrived at the restaurant at 19:09, there were two groups of six people on the first floor. I sat at a small table by the stairs. I ordered the Sri Lankan curry in a banana leaf wrap for 1760 yen, and my partner ordered the authentic Sri Lankan rice & curry with chicken for 1210 yen. Both of us were very satisfied with the taste and portion size, just like last time. Although the service was a bit slow due to the crowd, the curry here is still delicious.

When it comes to curry, Sri Lanka comes to mind. And when it comes to Sri Lanka, curry is the best. Finally, I arrived at Apsara. First, the salad in the lunch set came out and when I tried it, it tasted like store-bought dressing. I was a bit worried, but the curry was authentic Sri Lankan curry. The coconut flavor was subtly sweet and spicy, a perfect mix. It was delicious! I still think Sri Lankan curry is the best. Even though I walked from Takadanobaba and it was a bit far, I consider it a good calorie burn before and after the meal.

Visited the restaurant for a reservation at night. Had a dinner after a long time and cheers! My husband has alcohol allergy, so he had a soft drink, while I had a Lion beer since it's a Sri Lankan cuisine place. The restaurant was a bit small with 2-person tables on the first floor. The staff, a foreign man who spoke Japanese fluently, was charming and helpful. We ordered various dishes and drinks, but unfortunately, many items were sold out that day. The appetizers we ordered were good, but some items we were looking forward to were unavailable. Despite the limited options, the food we had was tasty. The service was good, and we enjoyed the Lion beer. Overall, it was a bit disappointing due to the sold-out items, but we still had a pleasant dining experience.

When I arrived, I found a group of four people squeezed into a narrow table, and it seemed like the basement was not being used. I wonder if they have stopped using it. It felt quite awkward even without saying anything. Maybe they could tell something from the way I ordered. The staff welcomed me and offered a unique dish - squid curry. It's a Sri Lankan curry that is not stewed, so the squid is tender and fresh. However, it didn't feel like they were eagerly welcoming customers or relying on local support. Well, we did come here on purpose. I couldn't help but feel a slight unease about them not using the basement anymore.

Apsara Restaurant & Bar is a Sri Lankan curry restaurant located a little over 5 minutes walk from the Babaguchi intersection where Waseda Street intersects with Meiji Street. The restaurant offers a variety of curry dishes, with options like Chicken, Pork, Fish, and Mutton plates available. Each plate comes with salad, Basmati rice or roti, and a generous serving of iced oolong tea. The curries are colorful and flavorful, with a mix of ingredients like beans, vegetables, and coconut milk for a light and healthy taste. The restaurant also offers Sri Lankan Biryani and curry wrapped in banana leaves. The dishes are not too spicy and are easy to enjoy, especially when mixed together. The payment options include PayPay and other QR code payment methods like auPAY. The delicious Sri Lankan curry at Apsara Restaurant & Bar is definitely worth a return visit to try out different meat options or the banana leaf wrapped curry.

The spicy stir-fried dish called "Devil Squid" is incredibly delicious and goes well with beer. They also have a variety of alcohol options. I tried the authentic Sri Lankan curry, which had okra and beans, and it was a unique and tasty experience. I'm looking forward to trying the Sri Lankan fried rice next.
