"FRENCH CURRY SPOON" opened in 2009 with the concept of easily enjoying French cuisine, expressing the beloved menu of curry with French techniques. The owner/chef honed their skills in French cuisine at places like "Le Bourguignon." The French Curry Special is priced at 1,890 yen, and Broccoli Potage is 390 yen. The potage has a beautiful vegetable medley with a silky roux and rich fond de veau flavor. The spice profile is vivid, not in terms of heat, but in freshness and fragrance. Thirteen spices, coarsely ground from whole, are carefully blended to enhance each one's distinctiveness. Spices are added twice, during simmering and finishing. The curry simmers meat and vegetables for 6 hours, matures for 3 days, and takes 5 days to make. Beef, oven-roasted for a crisp exterior, adds a French touch. The well-marinated, tender meat elevates the curry to another level. The rice, a blend of 13 grains, has a delightful texture and complements the dish. Abundant vegetables make it healthy. Today's potage features broccoli, a guilt-free soup that pairs well with curry. The French-style curry plate is packed with French delicacies. It'd be great to see more casual French restaurants like this! Thank you for the feast! (≧д≦)ゝ!"

I tried French curry at a place in Nishi-Ogikubo for the first time, and it was incredibly delicious. The sommelier recommended a Gewürztraminer wine with lychee aroma, which was paired well with the curry. It costs 500 yen and the staff explained it nicely. The curry presentation was great, the meat had a rich flavor, and the vegetables were fresh and crunchy. Everything was delicious!

This curry restaurant, selected as one of the top 100 curry shops, has a high rating of 3.74 (as of September 2023). I went right at the opening for dinner, so it was not crowded. It's a counter-only place where you order from a tablet, and you do self-payment at the cash register (cash only). The curry, with coarsely ground spices, has a fantastic balance and is very delicious. It seems to have a base of fondue. The meat is also delicious. I ordered the French curry and a curry set with four items (1,100 + 510 yen). All the set menu items were delicious, and I left the place extremely satisfied. The person who seemed to be the owner was very friendly.

Eating it with the usual curry sensation might feel a bit different. Enjoy French curry—a guilt-free curry with lots of vegetables, mixed grain rice, topped with an egg, and no wheat flour, providing a healthy intake. It was delicious. I learned that there's such curry available in the fiercely competitive curry battleground of Nishi-Ogikubo!

When you hear "French curry," most people, including myself, would imagine a European-style curry. However, the curry here is a spice curry made by French chefs. What I had today was the "Extra Tender Meat French Curry" (with less rice). It's a curry with a unique originality found only here. It's not very spicy, but you can enjoy the spice flavor. It's fun to change the taste with two kinds of condiments on the table. The system of ordering via a touch panel and automatic payment machine (cash only) is somewhat ambiguous as to whether it's advanced or not, but that's also part of the experience, isn't it?

In areas like Ogikubo, Nishi-Ogikubo, and Kichijoji, there are numerous delicious eateries, making it hard to choose. Opting for something I don't usually eat, I decided on a French curry restaurant. As I entered, expecting a queue, there was only one customer seated at the counter. Since it's curry, the stay was short, with patrons coming and going. I opted for the appetizer as an extra, and lassi was available for an additional charge. For starters, there was carrot rapé and gazpacho, fitting for a French touch. The curry arrived promptly, making me feel the starters weren't necessary. The curry had a delightful array of vegetables that made me almost break into a smile. The rice had a slightly unique texture, but I believe it complemented the curry well. With plenty of spices, it offered a complex and satisfying taste. It was a delightful experience trying this new category of curry. Thank you for the meal.

Weekend visit. Arrived at 11:00 at a place that opens at 11:30. Saw chairs outside the store and sat down. Ten minutes before opening, a small fan for waiting customers outside started running. While there was shade from a parasol preventing direct sunlight, the ground was still warm, so the fan was appreciated. Around 5 minutes before opening, people started gathering little by little. By 11:33, right after being seated inside, the place was fully packed, with a line forming outside. Ordered via a tablet in front of the seat. This system is interesting. Ordered 2/3 of the Special French Curry as a lunch set. With 2/3 portions of rice and ingredients, it's 200 yen cheaper. The lunch set costs 390 yen. The rice seemed to be mixed grains. The curry was delicious, and the ingredients were fresh and tasty. However, felt like there was slightly less curry. It would be nice if they offered extra curry for 200 yen or something. I didn't overlook anything, did I? Sorry if I missed it.

On this weekday holiday, I wanted to visit three different restaurants in Nishi-Ogikubo. I started at Spoon, a French curry restaurant. It's a three-minute walk from the south exit of Nishi-Ogikubo Station through the Nakadori arcade. Spoon opens at 11:30, and I arrived 10 minutes early. I was the first in line, and by the time they opened, there were six people behind me. Inside, you order using a touch panel. I ordered the Toro (fatty) meat extra French curry for 1,490 yen. It took about 10 minutes for my order to be served. The rice in the French curry is made from 13 types of mixed grains cooked with tea leaves, giving it a chewy texture. The curry roux is made with 13 spices, vegetables, and caramelized onions. In the center, there's tender beef simmered in red wine. It's so tender and delicious! This French curry redefines what curry can be. It was a delicious meal.

Located about a 3-minute walk from Nishi-Ogikubo Station, French Curry Spoon is a restaurant that has also been selected as one of the top 100 curry shops. It's easy for solo diners with counter seats available. I ordered the most popular Special French Curry. It came with plenty of warm vegetables, giving it an impression of whether it's really curry. It seems to be a curry popular among women. Thank you for the meal.

This long-established curry shop, located near Nishi-Ogikubo South Exit through the shopping street, offers French curry. I ordered their most popular Special Curry. The curry, created by a French chef, is based on a broth made by simmering beef and vegetables for several days. It incorporates spices in two stages, during simmering and finishing. It doesn't have the thick consistency typical of European-style curry. The beef has a somewhat bitter taste and is notably dark. The colorful variety of vegetables as toppings gives it a visually appealing presentation. It has a subtle bitterness and a sharp spiciness, making it a curry with a distinct personality. However, personally, I'm not sure if I would want to eat it repeatedly. Thank you for the meal.

Today, I visited "Spoon," located about a 3-minute walk from the south exit of Nishi-Ogikubo Station, just past the arcade street, so it's easy to find. I arrived during lunchtime, and although there weren't many people, there were still two customers waiting outside, while the enticing smell of curry filled the air. As soon as I sat down, I was served a stylish glass of water. I almost blurted out, "I didn't order sake," but thankfully kept quiet! Anyway, each seat had a touch panel at the counter for ordering, so you can decide on your own by staring at the screen. Without hesitation, or rather with a lot of hesitation, I ordered the Vegetable Curry Platter. It was a parade of vegetables that seemed to make you healthier just by looking at them, each with its own distinct flavor that could be enjoyed as appetizers individually. As for the curry, it was a European-style curry with a rich flavor that I don't usually have. They said they use fond de veau, which explains it. Southeast Asian curries are delicious, of course, but this one seems to have its own charm. So, thanks for the meal today!

Long time no see, Spoon-san. As always, the French curry was delicious. It's made with a base of fond de veau, simmered with meat and vegetables, and combined with various spices. I heard there's no wheat flour or butter used, giving it a light texture. It's quite different from regular curry. The spiciness of black pepper stands out, and the aroma of spices is rich, pairing well with white wine. This time, I tried the cold curry rice tea-soaked dish, and also enjoyed the Special Curry with tender beef, plenty of vegetables, and a soft-boiled egg, as well as the instant-smoked duck. It was delicious!

I visited this curry restaurant solo on a holiday. It's located about a 3-minute walk from Nishi-Ogikubo Station South Exit, nestled among the shops. It's a popular spot where people line up to taste the exquisite French curry crafted by the French-born owner. The restaurant has won the Curry Top 100 award from 2019 to 2022 consecutively. One Sunday, I arrived eagerly at 11:15, 15 minutes before opening. I was the first in line. The sun was scorching, but there were chairs under parasols in front of the shop, making the wait somewhat comfortable. Fifteen minutes later, the shop opened, and there were three people waiting at that time. The interior has only eight counter seats. Each person is served water in a decanter, which is a nice French touch. Orders are placed using tablets placed at each seat. I had already decided on the Special French Curry in a 2/3 size. While waiting, I noticed a black smoke-like smell coming from the machine in front of me. Someone must have ordered smoked duck curry. The curry arrived in 7-8 minutes. The rice was mixed grain. The light roux had a gentle flavor with the richness of vegetables and beef stock. The ingredients included tender beef stewed in wine, carrots, broccoli, baby corn, bell peppers, purple cabbage, and 15 types of colorful vegetables. I wanted a bit more spiciness, so I added cayenne pepper from the table and enjoyed it. It was delicious! After paying at the self-checkout, as I was leaving, they cheerfully said, "Thank you for coming in this hot weather! Take care!" It's nice to hear such words. I replied, "Thank you very much! I'll come again next time with my family." Thank you for the meal. I'll be back again.

Special French Curry for 1800 yen. The balance of spices, mixed grains rice, vegetables, and tender meat is superb. Despite being torn between the basic French curry and the most popular special, I opted for the latter, and it was the right choice. The coarsely ground spices and mixed grains rice create a unique texture with their granular consistency. The various textures and flavors of the vegetables add to the enjoyment. Despite its appearance of being tough, the tender meat melts in the mouth and is delicious. Truly deserving of its status as a top 100 restaurant.

I arrived around 11:25 AM on Thursday, and though the place seemed about to open soon, there were no customers yet. I strolled around and returned at the scheduled time to find four people waiting. The shop opened immediately, and I went in and took a seat at the counter. I ordered French curry for 1,100 yen using the touchscreen, confirmed it, and then waited. The water was served in a stylish decanter, making it a chic place. When the curry arrived, it looked delicious with a sophisticated presentation. It was not too spicy, had a Western-style taste, and was quite tasty! Adding spices from the table made it even better. Overall, it was a highly satisfying experience. The payment process was modern with an automatic cash register. Thank you for the meal! I'll definitely come back!

Recently, there's been a rise in shops where you don't interact with the staff for payments, and this restaurant is one of them. Their menu offers a fresh take on French-inspired dishes, which I think anyone can enjoy. After finishing your meal, you take the bill to a self-checkout machine near the entrance, scan the barcode, and then a voice guides you through the payment process. Despite being called "French Curry" and seemingly catering to foreign languages, when it comes time to pay, the Japanese is oddly broken... It completely throws off any thoughts about the taste and other aspects of the meal. LOL

I visited the restaurant 5 minutes before opening (11:25 AM). There was already a line, but I managed to get in just as they opened. The atmosphere and taste were both excellent. I ordered the French curry (1,100 yen) using a touch panel, which had a clear menu layout. The water was served in clean glasses with ice and a pitcher for each person. It was very cold. The French curry had a refined taste and wasn't too spicy. It was delicious, and the meat was tender. I didn't feel heavy after eating, and the staff were cheerful. I'll definitely come back again.

Here is the translated review: "Seeking the renowned French Curry Spoon in Nishi-Ogikubo! This establishment, selected as one of the top curry restaurants, offers meticulously crafted curry by a French chef who prioritizes health-conscious ingredients. The world of curry is incredibly diverse; even within Indian curry, distinctions exist between the North and South, not to mention European styles and soup curry, making it a delightfully diverse genre. Though I've explored various types, French curry was a first for me. Surprisingly, there's no traditional French curry, but rather, this curry is the creation of a French chef who was captivated by its allure, incorporating French culinary techniques to craft a unique dish. This sentiment is clearly expressed on the chalkboard menu. In summary: - Unlike European-style curry, it doesn't use roux (flour or butter). - The richness comes from fond de veau (veal stock). - It offers a delightful balance of spices. The most popular item, the Special French Curry priced at 1890 yen, may seem steep, but considering the journey to get here, it's a worthy indulgence. The presentation exudes French elegance, and the portion size is impressive, claiming to provide a day's worth of vegetables and meat. The foundation of mixed grain rice underscores its commitment to health. Now, onto the taste test... and it's delicious! While I expected only the richness of fond de veau unique to French curry, there's a pronounced depth of spices, making it exceptionally authentic. Unlike typical curry served at French restaurants, this one stands out. The beef stewed in red wine using French techniques is remarkably flavorful. The rich variety of vegetables doesn't just complement the curry; they elevate each other, ensuring a flavorful experience with every bite. The harmony between fond de veau, spices, and ingredients results in an exceptionally original curry, a rarity even among the top curry restaurants. Additionally, their homemade lassi, made with incredibly thick yogurt, is bursting with flavor! The combination of spicy curry and this rich yogurt is irresistible! While some curry enthusiasts may criticize it as unconventional, as a casual curry eater who isn't keen on extreme spiciness, I found it to be a hit! Amidst the proliferation of authentic spicy curries, these uniquely flavorful dishes make the journey worthwhile. The automated ordering and billing system add to the high-tech appeal. Plus, the ability to enjoy a meal here without enduring long lines, unlike the nearby popular tomato-based curry spot, is another plus point!"

【2022 Top 100 Restaurants】【2020 Top 100 Restaurants】【2019 Top 100 Restaurants】Ordered the seasonal curry (fluffy egg and corn keema curry) and today's lassi (apple and cinnamon lassi). The seasonal curry is spicy and the texture of the corn kernels blends perfectly with the fresh tomato acidity. Today's lassi is a bit thicker than preferred, would prefer it a bit more watery. ※Cash only at the self-service payment machine.

I opted for the regular size, but it's quite large. If you have a small appetite, the 2/3 size might be better. It's thoughtful that you can choose the size of the roux and rice. I ordered the vegetable French curry. There were plenty of meat pieces, so it was a satisfying amount. The abundant vegetables were delicious too. They use fond de veau, so the curry was light and easy to eat.
